Half my library shows when I'm not signed in, and lost playlists!

I wonder if some i-tunes whizz can help me please. I did an update a few days ago and on re-opening i-tunes discovered that more than half the library was missing as well as all playlists, including purchased (and I purchase quite a lot). After a lot of quietly desperate screaming I logged a call and the following day phoned i-tunes help. Mysteriously all the songs had reappeared but no playlists. The lady said 'this always happens when you update'. Not so, as this has never happened before and I update every time one is offered. (I then spent a few hours backing up all my music to an external hard drive.)
Today I went back in to see if I could find out how to get my playlists restored and gasp! Half the music had disappeared again. I looked for the most recent track I'd purchased and found it. So the music was still in the PC. Good. When I double clicked it it appeared in i-tunes and played, but the other 1500 tracks or so were still missing. When I'd finished having a tantrum, my teenager asked me whether I was signed in to i-tunes. No, I wasn't. When I signed in all the music came back. Still no playlists though. I have also acquired a little cloud icon next to 25% of my songs, funnily enough it doesn't appear next to the most recent purchase since I played it from within the PC as it were.
You should know I am a semi-PC literate British middle aged woman. My teenagers can't help anymore-they might be pretending though.
My questions are these please:
1) Most importantly, can I get my playlists back? I did have a look on here for that and found something but it was not execatly the same issue so I will re-ask! I haven't synced my ipod since this disaster so they're on there.
2) I never used to have to sign in to i-tunes to see my music. Is there some way of avoiding that? Or have I done something wrong?
3) Why is the i-cloud sign only on some of the tracks? I don't remember signing up though I can see it's a good idea.....

If email contains attachment it works. Is there any setting in document library that will allow emails and eventhandler to fire with out attachment?

What is the purpose of email sent to document library if no attachment. What document library will do what that email if it cant find attachment to save and create a spdoc object. If you want to store email/communication body then opt for site mailbox

Do my itunes purchases keep downloading even when I'm not signed into itunes?

I don't have enough time for my purchases to download completely, and I need to sign out of my itunes account, and I was just wondering, if I sign out without pausing my downloads, will they keep downloading? Because this is what I'm actually hoping for. It would be great if they could keep downloading even when I'm not signed in. I just don't know if they do or not.

Have you gone into Settings and turned off the Sync Courses and Notes option? If not, try doing this:
Go to Settings>iTunes U>Sync Courses and Notes, and see if it is = On. If it is, turn it Off and see if that fixes the problem.

My phone won't send outgoing mail. Won't send some text messages and now when it's not on wireless and only 3g the internet won't load. Help!

These are ongoing problems. I really want to go back to my android. This moring the problem was sending outgoing mail. I have done a restart. I have cleared my cookies. Some text messages I have to send twice to non-apple phones. When I'm not on wireless and I'm on 3g there is no point in even trying the internet. Very disappointed in this phone.

if your having issue with your 3G service, then you should contact your cell phone provider as they handle cellular networks.
in the mean time you can try a reset, hold down the home/power button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for you phone to boot back up.

HT4314 Is there a system-wide issue with the Game Center. I cannot get past the spinning dots/loading part, my game says I'm not signed in, and I am connected to the Internet.

I have been using the Game Center to track my wins for some time (months). Suddenly, my game tells me I'm not signed in and I cannot get the Game Center to open.

I have two yahoo accounts and I know as they 'improved' their servers I had periodic outages. It'd work fine on my webmail on my computer, webmail on the iPad, but not via the mail app. And it was stuff on their end. It may be a case of wait and see and you may need to eventually remove/readd the account on your iPhone.
When the issue is on their end, unfortunately there's not much for users to do beyond wait it out or find work arounds.

Shared Library shows as shared but not accessible...progress bar grinds

I have home sharing enabled and it works great between several computers on my home network. However the library on 1 machine is shared and the library will show up as shared on the other machines, but when selected the progress bar just grinds for an extended period of time until it stops and just goes back to showing the host machine library....will not show the contents of the shared library of the 1 machine, only will show that it is shared. Same results from different computers trying to see share on that machine. Using the suspect machine we can see shares on the others. The size of the library on the suspect is large (3000+ songs)....is there a size limit for sharing?

I don't know the answer. I just wanted to jump in and say I'm experiencing the same problem. We have a MacBook Pro and two Windows laptops on home sharing. One of the Windows laptops can load my library with no problem. I can see the two Windows laptop libraries under Shared (with the house icon) in iTunes, but the library's won't load. The progress bar just grinds away until it times out.
I've quit and restarted iTunes. I've turned Home Sharing off and back on. My husband (owner of one of the Windows laptops) deauthorized all computers through iTunes and I reauthorized to his account through Home Sharing.
Nothing has worked so far.

You have to download them or sync them to your phone ahead of time.

"show when being observed" not showing

All machines are OS 10.8.5, Remote desktop on clients and master machine is 3.7.1
Although "show when being observed" is selected in the remote management settings on the client, the menu icon that should show up on observation doesn't show.
If I try to trigger it manually by double-clicking Macintosh HD/System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras/RemoteDesktop.menu still no icon is displayed. However no entry indicating a problem is listed in the system log in console.
For comparison, the other menu icons triggered by double clicking the files in the Menu Extras folder work fine (eject, homesync status, etc).
Does anyone know of software that interferes with the "show when being observed" function?
Is there a command line way of enabling this on the client?

Yes. Try:
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/ki ckstart -configure -clientopts -setmenuextra -menuextra yes
The above is all on one line and must be run as root. To disable the option replace 'yes' with 'no'.
The manual for kickstart is available by simply typing:
man /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent/Contents/Resources/kicks tart
in Terminal.

Possibly the topology and/or physical health of your network? Assuming a stock OS install, a healthy drive and with nothing 3rd-Party added it should j'ust work'. By 3rd-Party I don't mean applications such as Adobe CS etc. I mean Little Snitch, Onyx etc and a whole host of other 'system' or 'utility' programs that on the surface appear to 'help' but in fact may be mudying the waters?

Windows folder shows when networking, but not contents.

I am using my MacBook Pro (client) to network wirelessly with my PC (server) using Windows file sharing (XP). I have three folders that I share. All three show up, but only two of them show their contents. I have checked and rechecked my share settings on the folders on the PC, and I swear they're identical. Any thoughts?

Upon further review...
After slogging around Windows networking troubleshooter, I was able to view the permissions on each folder, and changed the one that wasn't configured correctly. Why two of them worked by simply checking the share box, and one didn't is still a mystery, but it's working now.

Why Are There Multiple Instances Of Firefox Preparing To Access Internet According To Firewall Log When I'm Not Launching Them And Nothing Appeared On My Screen

I had closed Firefox after briefly running it and then tried to reopen it anew but got a message that said "Firefox is already running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."
I logged off my computer, and later restarted. However, when I checked my Firewall log it showed that during the minute I had my computer on earlier there were about a dozen instances of "Firefox is preparing to access the internet" which were recorded just seconds apart.
I don't have the problem now -- restarting apparently took care of the issue -- but I don't understand why there were so many instances of Firefox preparing to access the internet when I was not clicking on it all those times, the one time I did I got a message that it already was running, and there were no tabs on my screen to reflect all those supposed instances.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes", try to exclude the cookies in case you currently have selected this.
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Firefox will try to remove cookies created by plugins in case you clear the cookies and that can result in plugin-container processes getting created.

People IM me when i'm not signed on

Hi, I'm having a problem with iChat--
The program is completely quit out of, and has been for weeks, and then all of a sudden it launches and someone from my buddy list IMs me as if I were signed online--like their IM triggers iChat, if that makes sense. This happens when I haven't been on iChat for a while or after this happens and I quit, someone else IMs me and it starts up again. How can I keep this from happening? If I'm not signed on, I obviously don't want to talk to anyone, and it is very troublesome when they can see me and talk to me anyways. Help!

Both iChat 3 and iChat 4 can do Off Line Messaging.
Related to this is iChat starting up when the computer is On but iChat is shut down.
It can be controlled by a setting in iChat Menu > Preferences > General Setting.
First of all set it to Show the Menu Bar Item
This allows you control of the two sub items.
Set the check box on the when that says "When I Quit iChat, Set my Status to Off Line".
If you do not do this iChat in fact stays (Or rather your Account) logged in at AIM and iChat will start up when you get a New IM.
IF you are getting Off Line IMs when you start Up iChat you will normally get a AIMSysMessage as well asking if you want to continue receiving them.
If you say No at this point iChat does not have a way of restarting this function.
You have to visit your Account at AIM to reset this feature to On (You can also turn it Off there as an Option).

My MacBook Pro gets hot when I'm not doing much and when I watch YouTube videos the video skips, scrolling doe as well.

I bought the new, and my first MacBook Pro 13" a little over a month ago for college and love it, but have started to realize a couple problems I can't seem to solve. The bottom of the MacBook becomes very very hot in a short amount of time, and I really don't think I'm doing much to cause it. Another issue is while I watch a Youtube video in HD, even if it's completely loaded, it skips every so often and is slow and also makes my computer very hot. When I try to scroll up and down to view a web site, it also sometimes skips. I really never thought this would happen to Apple computers and hope someone can help me fix these problems!
