Half of film comes out black during export

I'm hoping someone here can help with an issue II'm experiencing when exporting my film.
The export seems to work fine, but when I open the file only the the first half of the film shows, and the second half is just showing a black screen (but the audio is exported).
Does anyone know what the issue could be? I've tried exporting as .h264 and also Prores422, and the issue is the same on both.
I can see and edit the film fine in the timeline, so can't identify what is causing an issue when I export.
Any help most appreciated.
thanks

Thanks for the responses guys.
I've attached a couple of screenshots so you can see what my timeline looks like, and also my export settings. It doesn't appear to be dimmed anywhere.
Appreciate hearing your thoughts.
thanks

  • Exported video comes out black...

    Hi–
So I've been working on a sequence that involves a combination of live action and animation, where the animation was brought in as a PNG sequence.
In the timeline view, everything is 100% fine, but when I export the video the animated portions come out fine and the live action footage comes out black (with the occasional green scan lines).
Any idea why this might be and how to fix it?

when i try to play a movie in final cut pro it comes out black thanks jt i have

Open the movie in the QuickTime player and report exactly what it says in the movie inpstecor. It's probably not in a spce that FCP supports.

Why can I view PDF files from the Web on my iMac even after I installed Adobe Reader and accepted the end user license agreement.I then quit the application relaunched it, as instructed snd still the PDF document comes out blank or black. Please advice. Thanks

Are you saying that Adobe Reader or Preview can't read PDF file that you download? Or, are you saying that you can't display PDF files in your Safari broweer? If the latter, then delete any AdobePDFViewer plugins you find in /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and restart. That should allow Safari to display PDFs in its window. BTW, that's the worst place to view them. Better to download them and use Adobe Reader or Preview.

  • Printing faxes come out black

I began using the Fax utility in 10.4.3 last week. The faxes are received without problem and stored as pdf files in a folder. When I open to read they open in adobe and look fine. When I print they come out with white text on a black background. Other pdfs not created by the fax print normally. Have tried various printers with same results. Any thoughts?

I am in the same boat - using a brand new Konica Minolta C450 Biz-Hub Expensive as can be printer with built-in Fiery. Same output, a black page from PDF'ed faxes. They even look good from the print dialog box in "Preview" mode. Then it prints black, with what appears to be a row of black thumbnails of the same page across the bottom.
The same fax PDF will print on my old HP 4050N, however, without any problems. I suspect that there is an issue between the creation specs used by Apple and the requirements on the Fiery. Maybe a similar issue for you as well.
Just throwing in my two cents to see if anyone may reply to this problem.

  • IWeb page printed from iWeb site comes out BLACK on some browsers

I made and run a website for a local art group. iWeb works well for this purpose. I publish the site to our domain. The main site is for the public and a second site, password protected and reached through the main site, is for members.
I've put the entry form for our biggest annual exhibition on the website, intending that members can print it from there (most have hard copies as well). Printing works perfectly from Safari. But many members have PCs (grrr) and use things like Firefox and IE.
Firefox prints the iWeb pages totally BLACK. IE prints okay on some computers and not on others. A clue is that, if you look fast as you open an iWeb page in IE, you see all the layout components in light blue; it immediately disappears. But that is the part that prints out black.
What on earth is causing this and HOW can it be prevented?? I have used NO background color on my pages.
    Thanx,

  • HD footage in 4:3 timeline project comes out stretched during playback!

    Hello Fellow Final Cutters,
I am doing some projections for a theatre show, and need to project in 4:3 aspect to maximize screen area on an unusual shaped screen. I am using FCP6 and monitoring onto both my Apple 20" display and/or NEC (native 4:3) projector with display settings set to 1024x768. My sequence settings are Custom size 1024x768, square pixels or PAL ratio, field dominance none, compression Animation, Photo Jpeg, or ProRes422. I've tried all combinations of this but the problem is, I can monitor the correct aspect when the frame is STILL, but when PLAYING it squeezes into 16:9.
This will be a problem when doing test projections in rehearsals, as it won't fit the custom 4:3 screen in the set. Exporting a QT displays fine in 4:3 on the external displays, it is just when playing from the FCP timeline, the image becomes squeezed.
Does anyone have any suggestions on basically monitoring a custom 4:3 sequence during playback without 16:9 distortion?
    Cheers, hope you're all well
    Sam

Oh, when I'm working in rehearsals its good to be able to update as fast as possible... watch a section of performance, project the images simultaneously, stop say after 30 secs, adjust image, re-render, playback from timeline, stop, adjust image, re-render, etc. Similar to editing with a client in studio, I need the display to show what the final outcome actually is on the fly.
Usually I am working in HD, projecting 16:9 or previously in SD projecting 4:3, but it seems in the crossover with FCP HD codecs there is some conflict trying to playback 4:3 using hi-res codecs (something better than SD PAL def). The included Film Academy setting (2048x1536) plays back without stretching, but this is REALLY hi res and is about double the rendering time. maybe I'll try downrezzing the Film Academy setting...

  • File size changing when pass through after effects  (180Mb file goes in and comes out 33GB on export)

im processing a video recorded of an  interview where the lighting was not very good on the interviewee
im brightening up the light on the interviewees face
the file was a 180Mb  H.264 file on import
when i export the file its coming out at 33GB in size.... im not sure why this is
i have chosen the default setting "lossless" as the format for export
i just want the file to export the same size and quality as it was when i imported it
what options should i choose for this?    AE does not seem to tell me how big the end file will be and it takes 1 hour and half to process this 2 minute interview so it will take me an awfull long time to get to the bottom of this if i try by myself
    thanks

It doesn't "increase" the file size. You're making a brand new file.
What you put into After Effects has nothing to do with the resulting file. You can have an AE composition with no footage whatsoever and the resulting file will be much larger than 0!
After Effects works internally with completely uncompressed pixel data, so no matter what you toss into it, it produces whatever you tell it to produce. As Mylenium points out, you made an uncompressed final file.
Your original video file is VERY compressed. So, of COURSE uncompressed video is going to look massive by comparison.
Read Mylenium's link to understand a bit more and go here to learn AE: Getting started with After Effects There are lots of "gotchas" like this that'll bit your butt if you skip this basic training stuff.

  • How to keep true black during export?

    Hi!
I cannot figure out how to keep my true blacks when I export using Adobe Media Encoder... It always seems to boost my blacks to 7.5 ... But I want my blacks to stay at 0.
    How do I do that?
I tried different exports... like Quicktime for instance. But they all do the same.

    Hey Craig --
I think I undersand what's going on: You say this happens with all formats (not just QT), right? This is because Premiere always maps RGB 0-255 <-> YUV 16-235.
Any exports via AME force an intermediary RGB conversion -- even if the output is YUV (MPEG2, H.264).
I'm not sure about QT but in Video for Windows (like .avi) the RGB->YUV transformation is handled by the codec, not the interface.
Many DV codecs for example (Matrox, Canopus, Cedocida) allow you to choose the way these range conversions are handled. It Matrox parlance, there is "Standard" (16-235) and "Expanded" (0-255).
The only way I've found to preserve the full range of YUV sources (including superwhites and superblacks) from Premiere is to export with DebugMode FrameServer in YUY2 mode. The caveat here is that sources that are RGB (or made to be RGB by applying filters) will always be scaled to 16-235 when output as YUV.
In some ways none of this matters: MPEG2 DVD, for example, should always be limited to this range. Furthermore most media players, etc. will convert YUV 16,235 <-> RGB 0,255 also, so it should appear correctly on playback in any case.
    Does this make sense?

  • Footage Comes Out Pixelated After Export

Help!. When I exported my project it comes from the clear HD preview in FCP to a blury pixelated video. I have tried exporting it in differant formats such as h.264 and apple prores 422. Does anyone known how to fix this. If you need an additional infomation dont be afraid to ask, any help is appreciated.

Check the drop down window at top right end of viewer and make sure optimized/original is checked. Seems like you may be exporting proxie.

  • Bleed settings come out wrong when export to PDF

I'm working on a 5x13 door hanger in InDesign with a .125" bleed on all sides. I did the front in Illustrator and brought it into ID and I did the back entirely in ID since it's text heavy.
When I export it to PDF with bleed and crop marks showing, the crop marks show up where the color ends instead of .125" in from the edge of the color.
I keep double checking both the ID and Illustrator documents, and I can't see anything wrong. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't think what.
Has anyone run into this problem before? Any thoughts on what I might be missing and how to fix it? Maybe ID handles bleeds differently than what I'm used to?

When you export to PDF there is an option to set bleeds in the export dialog or use the document bleeds. Maybe you have them set to 0 in the dialog and haven't checked use document bleeds?

  • Green screens on film when comes out of compressor

    Hi guys
When my film comes out of the compression stage I keep getting random green screens instead of a clip.  Definitely wasnt on my time line. Please can any one help.  I am using an Imac with a 4tb G-Tech drive attached.  Help please.

Thank you for replying - it is much appreciated.  The randomness of it is what I find so confusing.

  • Copying...hp envy 120 ...copy comes out dark and preview does not appear

trying copy on envy 120 comes out black print...have ink...preview does not show up on screen..

    Hello,
Are you having an issue printing in color?
When you say copy, you mean printing from the PC, not actually doing a standalone copy from the front panel?
Please give a little more information about the issue you're having.

  • I export from final cut pro 7 to idvd everything comes out fuzzy on the dvd

I film using a canon fs10. I edit in final cut pro 7, then export to quicktime format, then I burn the dvd using idvd. But the final product always comes out blurry and fuzzy. I can't see what I am doing wrong. Is it because I am not filming in HD?

Using iMovie, for one, is capturing your files to a codec other than one FCP wants to work with. You would be better off dragging and dropping the files from the camera to a folder on an external drive and converting the footage with MPEG Streamclip to whatever codec you want to work in.
Using iDVD to compress and author the dvd takes away any control you have over the compression settings for the project.
You'd be well off getting a FCP training book from someplace like Peachpit Press, or a training dvd from someone here or out there who produces them.
