Half the speed on Samsung EVO 850 SSD

I just installed a Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD in my mid-2010 iMac with 27" monitor and 2.93GHz i7 processor.  According to Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, I am only getting 255MB/s read and write speeds when the SSD is advertised as 2x this fast.  Why am I only getting half the R/W speeds.  Running the latest version of Yosemite.

I may have just discovered my own answer.    My 2010 iMac I believe has a SATA II controller which operates at 3Gb/sec unlike SATA III which does 6Gb/sec.   Is that the answer?

  • Why is the SSD on 2011 Macbook Air much slower then 2010 Macbook Pro with Samsung 830 SSD (less then half the speed) ?

Why is a laptop designed from ground up to use flash slower then a older laptop with a upgraded SSD from a 3rd party?
My old MBP is more then 2x the speed (read/write) with a SSD upgrade (Samsung 830) then my Air.
Any fixes or mods to boost the flash speed of the Air?

We would like you to show us how to do that.......Especially when the Samsung 830 will not fit the Air.....Please don't say duct tape....
Ok, scratch that idea.  Let me think for a moment,,,em,,,em.  OK I got it.  Sell both units and buy a mid Macbook Air 2012 version.

  • E4200 - Runs half the speed compared to my old router

That may have solved one problem but try this one. Why does my E4200 seem to run less than half as fast as my old WRT310N?

No doubt, the router E4200 is among the excellent routers. I would like to ask few question before I suggest you for any troubleshooting steps. The speed issue that you are facing, that is with the wired connection or with the wireless connection?
If you are getting the concern with both wired and wireless connection then you can try the following settings..
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Less than half the Speed! CS: "its fine"

So i moved from virgin media to bt hoping that it would improve my broadband expierience.now i say to my self haha what a joke!
Well than i was intially estimated to get around 35mb dl - 10mb+ uploads when signing up in april, i remember that while ordering online. So i Got my services installed on 1st of May and while the engineer was present at my property running speedtest i was getting 36mb dwn and around 13mb up and low pings! Was well satisfied with that and he left. Soon that evening very same day my speeds dropped to about 14mb and it was like that till 6-7 days into DLM period but after phone call to bt cs they somehow got it upto around 22mbish.
Then i upgraded to infinity 2 even after considering the problems with this upgrade atm, well nothing to lose anyway not having great speeds in start.
    I was estimated this:
yea thats right 61mb dl - 20mb up, my order compleated on 9th of May and i have seen absolutly no change in my connection whatsoever!
I called up bt earlier today and the CS from abroad told me its fine sir!! this is within our estimated level and our record show this is the speed you would be recieving from us!.
    what a joke of product.

Well i gave bt another call yesterday on 11th of may, spoke to someone in uk and they ran all the basic check everything but no good results, so he booked a engineer visit for 12th (today). Guess what? No one turned up hahahah, Thats bt for you, so followed up with another call in evening raging about this and someone now told me there is a network fault in my exchange (hayes north) and the problem is supposed to be fixed on monday followed by engineer visit on monday aswell at my property to check if everything is fine.
Lets see what happens on monday then

  • BT infinity installation - half the speed of the e...

After a long, long wait I was very pleased to see that Infinity was finally available in my area (from about 2 weeks ago), so I ordered it pretty much the moment I had a chance to do so. The estimate from BT's availability checker for FTTC was up to 51.7mbps down and up to 13.2 mbps up - somewhat better than I was getting on ADSL (<2mbps down and 200kbps up..).
On the day of the installation we requested that the modem & router be placed in our study, as the master socket is in the hallway and has no power nearby (we had previously run everything from an extension socket in the study). The contractor (not a BT engineer) decided that the current wiring was suitable, and so didn't make any changes to the master socket or to our internal wiring - pretty much just plugged things in and was on his way again, telling us that our speed should be stable within 10 days or so.
It's now been a week since the installation, and we are still achieving less than half of what BT's estimate suggested we should be getting.
    BT speed tester diagnostics:
    Download Speed
    22.72 Mbps
    0 Mbps
    23.52 Mbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 22.72 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-23.52 Mbps .
     Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 23.52 Mbps
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    8.23 Mbps
    0 Mbps
    20 Mbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 8.23Mbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
This is on an ethernet connection, not wireless.
Is there anything that we could try to increase the download speed, or is our line likely just awful? Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased to be receiving 10 times what I was on ADSL, but I was hoping for more.

  • BB line speed is now half the speed since moving t...

I would like to know why the line speed is now 0.77MB when it was more than 1.7MB when I started with BT.
We used to be able to watch films on ipad without problems but now this is not possible unless you want ro watch it minimised which is not acceptable.
I can't understand why BT thinks a line speed of 0.77MB is categorised as "good". This is NOT good.
    Please help!

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • FTTC less than half the speed of neighbour who's f...

Before migrating to FTTC, I was getting 6.9Mbps and occasional dropouts.  My neighbour was getting 3Mbps.
After migration to FTTC, my neighbour is getting  14.4mbps. I'm getting 6.0Mbps - slower than the previous standard ADSL to the exchange...
So far, BT are resisting fixing my problem. The cause seems obvious; my neighbour's line runs overhead to the cabinet, in a modern/copper cable bundle. My line runs underground in an old/aluminium bundle.
I suspect that my neighbour was switched from the underground cable to the overhead cable when he moved to BT Infinity 2; his estimated speed (during the negotiations) was 14.0Mbps. This shows that BT are aware that 14.0Mbps is achievable in our location.
Meanwhile, 40 yards closer to the exchange, I'm languishing on the aluminium bundle at 6.0Mbps. Might this be because I'm on a 3rd party ISP? They are complaining to BT, but BT is refusing to move my line.
Is this reasonable? I thought ADSL service providers were obligated to provide the fastest ADSL possible given the local circumstances?
Incidentally, I'm on the same cabinet as my neighbour, and I'm in port #1, the implication being that I probably migrated to FTTC before my neighbour.

when installing FTTC the existing phone cable from your home to the cabinet is used and then it is fibre to the cab from exchange.  There is no changing the line.
It is opnereach that are responsible for the installation of fibre and there is nothing our ISP BT Retail can do to help you.  you need to pursue your problem with your own ISP who in turn will contact openreach
openreach have made it clear many time that they will not change your line to another just to improve your broadband connection - need to show there is a fault which requires engineer visit
Sorry but you need to get your ISP involved

  • Wireless half the speed of WIRED

    Is this common?
Ran a test on speedtest.net via ethernet and I got 9.8 MBPS and via wireless it is 4.28 MBPS
    I am using a WRT160N Version 1  Router
My wireless card is a G and my ISP claims 10 Mbps transfer rates.

No,it is not common.Yiu can check for the firewall and turned it off on the wireless computer. As your wireless computer is using a G-Series card,so it could be the one reason. On the linksys setup page you may try by changing the Network Mode to "mixed" or "BG-Mixed" .
If the above step doesn't resolve your problem then, try to upgrade the router's firmware.Firmware is available here.

  • Bootcamp will not install on my late 2012 mini Samsung EVO 840 1tb SSD

I recently replaced my 256gb OWC SSD in my late 2012 Mac Mini with a Samsung EVO 840 1tb.
    I did the following
    1) Using 10.9 recovery i initialized and created a single clean partition on the 1Tb SSD
    2) I installed a clean copy of 10.9
    3) Using migration assistant i transferred apps and documents from my previous SSD via a USB 3.0 adapter to the new SSD
    4) Using Bootcamp Assistant 5 I created an ISO version of a clean copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and downloaded the Apple updated Boot Camp drivers to the same 16gb Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 thumb drive
    5) Using Bootcamp Assistant created a 199gb Bootcamp partition on the new Samsung SSD which appeared to go to completion
    6) Mini restarted from the Bootcamp USB drive and Windows started successfully
    7) I chose Windows 7 Home Premium install
    8) I got the "which partition do you want to use to install Windows" screen, chose the Bootcamp partition, using the advanced option I chose format which appeared to complete, hit NEXT and then got an error that windows could not install because it could not find the NTFS partition, and then i was stuck.
When I rebooted I first got the Unable to find a bootable disk, hit any key error. I then physically shut down the computer, held down the alt key chose the Mac partition and the computer successfully booted. I could see the Bootcamp partition and according to Disk Utilities, the partition was formatted as NTFS.
The only connections to the Mini were a 30" Apple Cinema via a Apple Mini display connector, the keyboard and mouse via USB, and the USB Bootcamp Created 16gb Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 thumb drive. I also have an internal Apple 1 tb hard drive with no applications installed. In the apps installed on the Samsung does include Parallels 9.
What have i done wrong or missed? IF nothing it appears that the Bootcamp assistant supplied with 10.9 may have an issue with my Hardware setup including the Samsung EVO840 1tb drive.

There are known SATA speed issues with Macs and EVO 1TB. Please check in System Profiler -> SATA for SATA status of the EVO. It seems to work on OSX side, but not Bootcamp/Windows.
Please check for any firmware updates for the EVO on the Samsung website.

  • Samsung Serie 850 EVO, will it work on my macbook pro late 2011?

    Hi all,
I have a MBP late 2011 13", and I have found a nice offer for a samsung serie 850 evo, so I would like to upgrade my MBP with this SSD. But I can not find an specific answer for this Samsung SSD model, everyone seems to have upgrade it to the 840 or 850 pro :S
Does anyone know if it will work fine with my Mac?
    Thaks!
    Pedro.

This seems to be a popular choice, however:
    http://www.cnet.com/products/samsung-ssd-850-evo/
"  There's not much to complain about the drive except its Samsung Magician software, which is required for RAPID mode and other features and is available only for Windows. That means other platforms, such as Mac, Linux or game consoles, won't be able to take advantage of most of the drive's features."

  • 4K TV not recognized correctly: MacBook Pro Mid2014 15" reports a Samsung UE40HU6900 4K TV as 8K (7680x4320). This results in an ugly, washed out image half the size it should be. Is there a fix for this? (OSX 10.10.1)

    MacBook Pro Mid2014 15" reports a Samsung UE40HU6900 4K TV as 8K (7680x4320).
This results in an ugly, washed out image half the size it should be. If you turn off scaling everything is tiny as 8K are displayed on a 4K screen. To get the actual 4K resolution you have to turn on scaling. Still 8K is transferred to the device, but doubling the data lines makes the picture look washed out and create obscure effects for line borders.
Did anybody encounter this problem before? Is there a fix for this? (OSX 10.10.1)

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Advice on SSD migration a 9,2: Crucial BX 100 vs Samsung EVO

Hi, The Samsung EVO 500 GB on paper looks better than the Crucial BX 100 500 GB in terms of SSD drives.  They're at the same price point. I was wondering if anyone could weigh in on which drive would be better for migration on a 9,2 (late model 2012).
I'm on 10.8.5 and my MBP has been running hot lately. I plan on cleaning the fan but ever since I've had it I've had RAM issues in which running multiple apps and/or having more than one external drive attached sucked the life out of the machine I upgraded to 8GB ram when I first go it, but I hear that 16 GB isn't worth the upgrade so I thought I'd move to an SSD. Now I'm using both Memory Cleaner and SMC just to keep the latest version (except for the OS) running smoothly.
This sort of started out of the blue- I noticed that FF was a drawing too much RAM and I switched to Chrome which I know Chrome is a also huge Ram suck but onetab is saviour in keeping a browser open. Along with Chrome, I typically have Excel and TextEdit, and drop down to roughly 1GB of RAM and can't keep an additional program open (Photoshop/Word/VLC) without constantly having to clean the RAM using memory cleaner and turning the fans way up using SMC.
Sorry, I'm not updating to Yosemite. I never upgrade to the 1st of anything. In didn't upgrade to Mavericks because that sounded to buggy to me- and that isn't even available anymore.
Advice and thoughts would be much appreciated.
Also, any advice on the migration when I actually do it? Clone Copy, etc. . .
Thanks in advance. I appreciate all the help I can get. Best. A

I want to join in the converstation here, cause I also have a MacPro [5,1] 3.2 Quad-Core with 12GB ram and was hoping to talk to people with the same system about internal SSD drives.
I have 3 different 1TB SATA drives already installed...
    1 Mavericks [boot/system]
    1 Snow Leopard [boot/system]
    1 [strictly storage]
And I was thinking of intalling a SSD [maybe about 128 or 200GB?] in the 4th bay so I can then get a 3rd [boot/system] that will obviously run a bit faster than the other drives.
I'm just curious to know not only about the drives, but the phsycial installation of the drive. Do the drives that area available for purchase online, do they come with the drive alone? And do they fit in the hard drive carrier that is in the MacPro? Or is there an additional kit that is needed when puttin the drive in?
I'm mostly going to be running pro audio stuff like Logic, Ableton, Reason, Native instruments stuff, etc. as well as Autodesk Maya and other graphics and video stuff., so any suggestions would be nice.

  • [HELP] Macbook Pro won't boot Samsung Evo SSD internally

I recently bought a 512 Gb Samsung Evo SSD for my 2011 Macbook Pro. After cloning the harddrive using superduper! I installed the harddrive internally and booted it up. I first received an error saying "Unapproved Caller SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple Software". Confused, I hit OK and it proceeded to showing the Apple bootup screen with the spiral underneath. I decided to restart the machine and this time I did not receive the error, however it just got stuck at the apple boot up screen with the spiral spinning for days. I brought it to Tigerdirect and they tried everything they could (apparently) and had no luck with cloning, fresh install, reinstalling OS, and so on. They told me the Boot Rom only (for some reason) recognizes the original seagate HDD and my boot rom is messed up. Freaking out, I tried placing the SSD in the computer and connect the original HDD via USB 3.0. I booted the HDD by holding down option during bootup then proceeded to system preferences and tried to changed the start up disk to the SSD. However, I received an error saying Bless tool was unable to set boot disk. I am now at a loss, and worried my pricey SSD will become dead weight. Please help
    Thanks for anyones help

Were you ever able to fix the problem, I have the same issue.

  • Walk me thru replacing my good HD to Samsung EVO-840 500GB SSD

Please walk me thru replacing my good HD to Samsung EVO-840 500GB SSD. I need Help. I did back up to Time Machime. I do have a HD USB enclosure. Some level 6 and 7 reps are suggesting purchasing cloneing software to do the job. Please advise the best route for me. I also want to upgrade my memory at the same time. Much thanks.

    Mustang69conv wrote:
...How and when do I transfer/install everything from my good old HD to my new SSD? What program do I use? How do I do it?...
Since you aren't upgrading your OS and you're not starting over with a new computer, your old HD is already fully compatible with what you want on your new SSD. So, with your HD installed in your external USB enclosure, boot from it (hold down the option key after the chime and pick the external drive), then clone the external onto the SSD after you partition the SSD to GUID Partition Table (click the Options..Button), one partition. Carbon Copy Cloner does the job for making a bootable clone; other software, such as Superduper does too. Assuming the SSD is big enough to receive the contents of the HD with room to spare, you're done.
Obviously it's also possible to do a fresh install of the OS you're already running and then use Setup Assistant to migrate your settings and files to the SSD. I've found, however, that some settings, such as Network configurations, can get lost that way, as can authorizations for software you've had to buy and register.
