Hands Free Devices for Complaince w/CA Law

Now that California has adopted a law effective mid-year that only hands-free devices can be used while driving, what is Apple offering in the way of hands-free dialing and access (other than a plug stuck in the ear)? Or are we out of luck here?

It already comes with one: the earphones have a mic built into the cable. Just use one in your right ear so that you can hear external sounds with your left ear.

  • Car Charger, Radio Transmitter and hands free device for IPHONE

Is there a device that I can purchase that will allow me to charge my IPHONE, listen to music stored on my IPHONE thru the car radio and also all me to use the phone feature hands free? If so, where can I purchase it?

I wish I had a product to point you to (and am still a little baffled that Apple didn't include voice activiation) but I think your best bet is to look at various audio systems, zero in on the best candidates, and make a check list of specific connectivity features you're looking for.
There are many after market audio systems which have MP3 input capability or an iPod adapter that you can use to play tunes off of your iPhone. These units usually do not allow much iPod playlist navigation (i.e., you need to find what you want to listen to on your iPod/iPhone before you start driving).
These after market systems also have Bluetooth hands-free integration. To an extent, they will work with any Bluetooth enabled phone, but the extent of how well they work is mixed bag unless the iPhone is specifically listed as one of the phones it supports. For example, with your iPhone paired to a third car audio unit, when your iPhone receives an incoming call, the music will fade down and you will hear your phone ringing through the car. You will then be able to answer the phone and hear the caller. Whether or not they will be able to hear you is anyone's guess with the audio unit's generic Bluetooth phone driver. With a third party audio unit which lists the iPhone as one of the phone it supports for hands-fee use, you will be able to speak to and hear an incoming caller. You may be able to program some of your most frequently dialed numbers into your audio system and dial out via your audio system, but you may not be able to upload all of your contacts; and even if you can, you need to make sure that you can dial those entries with speach recognition in your audio unit because it is not available in the iPhone.
Check out JVC. I think they have an in-dash navigation unit that supports the iPhone. Again, you need to specifically find out from JVC the extend you can dial with speech recognition or with uploaded contacts.
If anyone knows of any systems which are fully integrated (i.e, will upload contacts and provide speech recognition for dialing), please post it.

  • Best iPhone Hands-Free Device for the Car

Wondering what is the best way to listen to my iPhone audio via the FM radio and talk to callers.
Anyone know of the best way to use the iPhone "hand-free" in the car.
    Jack

I will second xtremecarbon's mention of Motorola Bluetooth handsfree car kits.  I have a Motorola T325 and love it.  It works great with Siri.  It senses when you have entered your vehicle and verbally gives you the battery status and that you are connected to your iPhone using the device name.  This really freaks out valets and mechanics.

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 4. Bought a Motorola Roadster2 but really geared to Android.
Will return it. Can anyone help with a reccommendation for a Bluetooth Hands Free
Speaker for car  that is most compatible with the iPhone/IOS.
    Thanks

OK, in Australia, the best options I have found so far are:
    Powere cradle - http://www.holdmyphone.net/select-your-device.html?ddlBrands=Ford&ddlModels=Terr itory-04_09&ddlsubaccessories=0&ddlaccessories=0&hselect=Phone&hselect2=Apple&hs elect3=iPhone-3G
BT carkit with Stereo integration - http://www.ow.com.au/shop/Car-Kits-Bluetooth/Parrot-CK3000-Evolution-Advanced-Bl uetooth-Car-Kit
These are very simple to use and I havent had any issues after 12 months usage.
Parrott have quite a few advanced products which are very good.

I had this problem and what I did was: read the user manual. I was actually using the wrong buttons to put the Tri-BC200 on pairing mode. I also boot my I phone. Everything worked OK. Regards.

  • How to set which app is controlled by hands-free device?

I have a Kinivo BTC450 hands-free bluetooth device in my car. With my iPhone 5 and iOS 7, it worked perfectly: the one button on the Kinivo started or paused my SpeedUp app (which plays audio content faster than normal), and when I got back in the car, it would automatically start up again.  With updates to iOS 8, it's now much more flaky (and same with my new iPhone 6+): sometimes the button turns on iTunes instead, and sometimes it turns on audio from some app I can't even identify (none appear to be running on the phone!). Sometimes pushing the button does not start or pause the audio, and it never starts up again now, when I start the car. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to
    1) tell the phone which app the bluetooth device is supposed to control
    2) make it more reliable
or perhaps suggest a better similar device (BT, with output audio jack for my stereo's AUX input socket) which is more reliable with iPhone?

    Hi Michael,
It sounds like you’re running into intermittent Bluetooth connection issues and other unexpected Bluetooth behavior since upgrading iOS on your iPhone 5. I suggest taking a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great troubleshooting tips that’ll resolve most Bluetooth connection issues.

  • Is my Plantronics 245 Bluetooth Hands Free device compatible with the iPhone 6?

I have followed the pairing procedure, but the iPhone 6 does not recognize the device.  Is it a lost cause?

Let's not give up just yet, vjpucci. Dilbertaz offered additional excellent clarifying steps for pairing bluetooth devices. Did it help?
If you are still experiencing connectivity issues, if you have not done so, please try updating your bluetooth headsets firmware. There may be a few bluetooth firmware/stack issues causing the problem. This can help!

  • Hands-free for Nokia 3300

    hello!
Nokia 3300 requires an HDS-3 hands-free device. HDS-3 being currently produced (compatible with Nokia 72**) slightly differs from original that comes in box with 3300. its sound is flat comparing to HDS-3 for 3300. can i somehow order the original 3300 HDS-3 because it cannot be found in shops anymore

The Apple iPhone Bluetooth Headset was discontinued in March, 2009. Short of finding one on eBay or from a retailer with very old stock, I'm afraid you need to consider a 3rd party BT headset. None will show the battery level on the iPhone like the Apple one, though

  • Hands free voice calling?

Is there a hands free voice activation accessory so I can comply with the July California Hands Free Law?
Does it allow me to say Call Work" and dial my work number?

I came here to ask this exact question. It's bound to be the #1 question for the iPhone in CA around the time the law goes into effect. If Apple or someone else has not already thought of it they would have really dropped the ball. After all, Apple is headquartered in CA too!
BTW I use a small Motorola bluetooth hands free device that works great. I just need the voice dialing capability.

  • Iphone 2.0 update no longer working with Chrysler Uconnect Hands Free

Hello. I recently downloaded the 2.0 update for my original iphone and it will no longer work with the my Uconnect hands free setup in my 2008 Dodge Ram. I am a Chrysler Dealer Parts Manager and have installed and shown many people how to set these uconnect hands free devices up but I have no connection with the 2.0 update. I pair the phone as a new phone and it will pair but will not show up at all and it says "No Phone". Anybody know a fix for this. Help Apple!!!

I have a new Dodge Nitro. U Connect and iphone were working great. I had no problems until the 2.0 update. I tried calling apple care but gave up quickly when I realized I was going to be waiting forever with everything else they have going on.
The weird thing was that I was on a call trying to get some help from a friend of mine and all of a sudden the phone started working with the u connect. Then after leaving and returning to the car it stopped working again. Haven't been able to get it working since. I though maybe you had to be on a call for a while before it would transfer over. That wasn't it.
I tried turning off wireless too. Again no effect.
The phone shows that it is paired with the u connect. I've tried unpairing and repairing several times still to no effect. They just aren't working. This is a HUGE problem. I love my iPhone but may have to give it up and switch if they don't come up with a fix in the next month or so.
Anybody who can help me solve this would definitely move to the top of my Christmas Card List!
