"Hard Disk - (3F0) BootDevice not found" after removing Windows

Hi.
I own a ProBook 4530s that came with preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium. I'm a long-time Linux user, so the first step I took after buying it was shrinking the OS partition and installing Arch Linux on the newly created free space. I have used the notebook in this setup for something like a year now, but since I rarely even boot to Windows, I decided to gain some free space by deleting them entirely. Using cfdisk, I deleted their partitions.
After a short time (about a day), I had the machine powered down, and I found some old labelless CD I wanted to inspect. I started the computed and inserted it into the drive. It was apparent it was a Windows XP installation CD, so I turned the computer off (before it finished the phase of loading drivers).
(It's likely that the previous paragraph is unrelated to the error message, because the installation shouldn't even touch the disk at that phase. I also don't reboot often, so I'm not sure whether did the computer boot between deleting the partition and booting the Windows XP CD.)
The next time I tried to boot the PC, I was greeted with "Hard Disk - (3F0) BootDevice not found". All HP diagnostics were OK, and when I instructed the GRUB on an Ubuntu live CD to boot into my hard drive, it booted normally.
I admit the BIOS might be somehow confused by the partition table I have, as it begins with a lot of free space and has no NTFS partitions, but I believe BIOSes shouldn't be dependent on the OS I run. So, I have a few questions:
Does the HP BIOS try to detect Windows, and does it do anything differently if it doesn't find Windows on the hard drive? I googled around, and didn't find anyone with experiences running just Linux on my notebook (just dual-booting...).
If it does, is there some way I could convince it to boot into the hard drive even through it doesn't have Windows on it?

I see the same error but my situation still allows me to boot up but only with the secondary HDD in the DVD writer bay. For more details, please see an existing thread on http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Hard-Disk-3F0/m-p/1670523#M76013.
I am suspecting that it has something to do with BIOS not reading the MBR or something.

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity.For instance you have a 320GB hdd now so you could use a 500GB hdd but not a 250GB hdd.

6 in 1 card Reader not found after installing Windows 8 - HP Pavillion Dv6

I am running a dv6874ca and after installing Windows 8 the 6 in 1 card reader no longer works - the system does not read any information. I cannot find the card reader in the device manager.
Note: I am trying to view a Sony Pro Duo card which was possible before installing Windows 8. The only item that appears under "disk drives" within the device manager is my hard drive.

Microphone not found after installing Windows 8.1

My PC was purchased in Greece 5-6 years ago (I don't remember exactly)
Initially, it came with Windows 7 and later on I upgraded it to Windows 8 with no problems at all. Then, on January 2014 I installed Windows 8.1, and as aresult my microphone is not working any longer. Apparently, HP is not supporting it any longer with new drivers. Any ideas?

I understand that you are not able to use the microphone on your desktop computer, and I would be happy to help you!
Since there are no supported drivers for your Microphone in Windows 8 or 8.1, I recommend re-installing Windows 7 once again on your computer. You can attempt to re-install Windows 8, but there is no guarantee the microphone will work, as there are no supported drivers for that operating system as well.

Hello,
I tried to re-install de OS from windows 7 to windows 8.1 and when the bios update driever was installed and the laptop was restaring it appeared the folowing window and message:
Boot Device Not Found Please Intall an Operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3F0)
After that i tried a lot of different ways to get to boot device select ...but i couldn't do anything. I removed the HDD and i put it back, i've tried with holding in the same time windows +B and pressing the power button in the same time for 1..2 seconds and then i've waited for at least 1 minute..and it didn't appeared anything on the screen. I've done the hard drive check and it passed. The weirdest thing is that when i want to select a boot device to re-install again the OS, i can't see any boot device to select. I need to mention that i've formatted the HDD in another computer. I dont care about the informations from the HDD beacause i saved all the informations on another device storage.
Please help me repair this problem!!! thanks a lot!

Whenever you get a message stating that the boot device not found it could be because of bad sectors on the Hard Drive. Its not necessary that the Hard Drive Test should fail to determine if the Hard Drive if its faulty or not. Sometimes even if the Hard Drive Test passes the Hard Drive will still not work because of the bad sectors in it.
Best way to find out if its the Hard Drive you can try the Hard Deive on a different Notebook which would help you determine if it's faulty or not.
Could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc..
HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:
Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power Adapter
Step 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 Seconds
Step 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)
Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal
If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook
If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files.

I started getting start-up problems with my hp pavilion dv6t-7000‏. It happens intermittently.
The boot error is:

Laptop says no boot device found no operating system hard disk 3F0

Whenever the Hard Disk fails with an error Hard Disk [3F0] that indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue

CS6 photoshop not found after downloading and putting in valid serial number. Only extended version shows up as available. How do I just download CS6 photoshop only??

Nowhere during the installation does it give me the option to select the previous version I purchased! This is a new install on a new computer because my other computer no longer works. There is no option for me to select CS6 PS (NON EXTENDED) on the download from Adobe! When I install it only installs the extended version and tells me my serial number is valid but not for the extended. When you provided the link to the page that has the downloads, all that loads is the extended version. Can you please give me a link to the CS6 (not extended) so I can get back to work? I also was able to get the hard drive out of my computer that no longer works and put it on my new computer I'm trying to install CS6 on and the installer gave me NO OPTIONS to enter my old serial#.
This is beyond frustrating!!!! I have a computer go out on me, and have to buy a new computer, then when I try to install CS6 PS it will not install. In the meantime I'm trying to keep my small business going to stay in business. I can't call any one from adobe. All I can do is send emails to get this resolved and wait.

Three replacement Stream 7's three hard disk- ( 3f0 ) errors

I received a Stream 7 Table in June. All fine until I filled it and did the inbuilt reset which bricked it. Chatted with tech support and they immediately replaced it. Not cost effective to waste time on a cheap tablet I gather. Recieved the replacement in 3 days which is fine. There is no available OS to download to recover your unit(s), only service centers have the SSRU (Service System Recovery USB) designated for your unit.

When i press command+I (Get Info) i see that there is 140 GB "Available Space" on my hard disk but when i click on my hard disk icon on the desktop, and then press "space" i only see 102 GB free!! What the f*???
