Hard-drive Crash!! - Possible to get files from Apple TV to my new hdd?

My hard-drive just crashed and I just received the new hard-drive. I was wondering if there is a possiblity to restore into my new hard-drive the files I had downloaded from my old hard-drive to my apple TV. I have a alot of music, photos etc on my apple tv hard-drive, I hope there is a way to restore the files back to my new hard-drive.

there is no easy way... people need to realize that appleTV is not a backup drive and with all the valuable, irreplaceable things on your computer you need to have a backup strategy... can you really afford to lose everything on your computer? don't buy one hard drive, buy two... one to replace the dead one and one for a backup drive or buy a hard drive and a time capsule (with time capsule you can do wireless backups from your macbook).
getting the files off would involve breaking your warrantee...
1) taking the appleTV apart (not an easy task, but you can find instructions online), removing the hard drive, hooking it up to your computer... by putting it into a USB enclosure or eSATA or internally
2) hacking your appleTV (instructions online) SSHing to it and getting the files off that way...

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

IMac Hard Drive Crashed - Need to get music from iPod to new hard drive

The 250GB hard drive on my iMac crashed - totally fried. It's been replaced and the operating system and software reinstalled. The problem - I have 22GB of music on my iPod (5G, 60GB) that I'd like to get back onto the computer. All music is legal - ripped from my library of 500+ CD's. The iPod is already set to manual updates and for use as a disc drive.
Someone please tell me there's a way to do this without having to rip all 500 CD's again...

Hard drive crash, trying to get back to OSX 10.8

I had a recent hard drive crash and had to reinstall from my disk. I am up to OSX 10.6.8. I purchased OSX 10.8 when it came out. It shows in my app store purchases. Does anyone know how I can get to it to bring my machine up to speed?

Got it fixed! I took a chance and got back on chat, this time with an agent who seemed to understand my problem. He took me through a series of steps Shrink Volumes and Extend Volumes that then showed my total hard drive. So, other than now having to go through the restore process again, I should be good!

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. All I have is the music from my iPod. I would like some help or if anyone knows anything about how to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer. I guess my new computer is not the original authentic one in the itunes system and will not let me exchange music from my iPod to new computer. I would appreciate help if anyone has ideas. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

I had to replace the hard disk and in my daughter's PC and now need to get the songs back from her iTouch to her computer. As you can imagine, I had no backup prior to this hard drive crash... Now how can I get the songs and applications from the iTouch back in the PC? I have authorized iTunes using the same account but it does not allow me to do any tranfer from the Itouch to the PC.
Please help... I don;t want to loose everything we have purchase and installed on the iTouch...

That post of mine linked to above is quite an old one and isn't meant to specifically address an iPod Touch. You might want this more up to date information.
If your iPod is set to sync automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.

If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone. Without syncing : File>Transfer Purchases Authorize your computer for your itunes account first.
If you sync to a blank computer, then your contacts and calendars will be erased as well. Another reason to always maintain a backup.
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer. When you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.

After having my hard drive replaced, I tried restoring files from time machine. The restore completed but I don't know where the files were restored to. I can see they are taking up space on my hard drive but I can't get at them.

My hard drive failed and so was replaced, luckily everything was backed up on time machine.
I tried to do a full restore, and it went through the process but I couldn't see my files anywhere on the HD. I tried again and same thing. Eventually I used Migration Assistant and this worked fine.
However my hard drive is now full - all my previous restores went somewhere but I can't get at them.
Can anyone please help, I need to delete them from my system.

Is the HDD in the 2009 15" MBP dead? (The original source of your data) If not, you might want ot take it out and put it in an enclosure.
You might try spotlight on know files to see if that gives you any clues where your data is located.
You might down load from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it. It should show you all of the files you have on your MBP and enable to locate them.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

When I right click on an image, then went to Go to Folder in Library, it pulls up the new external hard drive where I made the new link. When I try to work on the photos, the image still says file image is offline or missing. When I right click on the image to Show in Finder, it says the image could not be used because the original file could not be found. I eventually did click on their locate and found the image. When I linked those two together, a few minutes later ALL the "?" went missing and now IT WORKS!!!!
That was weird!

I'm not able to move files from my mac to my hard drive, but i can move files from my hard drive to my Mac. Would really like to make more room on my mac-any suggestions to get these files onto the hard drive?

When i plug my external hard drive into my mac i'm able to see all the files on it and move files off the hard drive to the mac, but not the other way around. I need to make more room on my mac and would really like these files to be on this particular external hard drive. Any help would be great!

Is it possible to do a "reverse" transfer. In other words, put the songs from my iPod back into my iTunes. If so - HOW?
I'm afraid to hook up my iPod to my computer because I don't want the automatic upgrade to start and then my iPod will be empty too.
