I tryed restarting the computer but no the 2 drives aren't showing up on my desktop. how do i change those permissions so i can get access to my hard drives??? please help

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and enter /Volumes/ as the folder's location. Next, open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder while keeping the Volumes folder open. Type the following into the window:
chmod 755
followed by a space. Drag one of the volumes in question into the Terminal window and press Enter; repeat this with the second volume. Log out and back in.

  • My external hard drive not showing up

    Hello,
My external hard drive is not showing up on my desktop. I went to finder & preferences>general and made sure I checked "show these items" and checked hard drives. I even unchecked it because I have 2 other external hard drives. When I checked the hard drive box the other 2 hard drives appeared but the third hard drive did not. The hard drive not showing up on my desk top does show up when I double click my system hard drive & can be opened from there, but I want to see it on my desk top. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I had the same problem. On the folders on the drive with the Aperture library did show in the Import panel. After I clicked the computer icon in the upper left corner of the Import panel, suddenly all drives appeared.
You can also try to drag the folder you want to import into the Import panel, to point the file chooser to the drive.

    [email protected] ,
To transfer the product from one system to another , first step would be to deactivate the product from that machine so that you have an empty seat available for you . Second step , will be to get the media and install the product on the new machine and then activate it using the serial number that you will have .
Also , if you are not sure of the details of the order, you can please share the order number with me in a private message and I will get back to you with the information.

  • Hard Drive not showing up

Hi all. I've got a macbook pro 13-inch unibody that has a boot up problem. It was fine until a couple nights ago when the laptop slipped off my wife's lap and onto my arm. it wasn't a big fall but i got shocked by the heat so i accidentally hit the laptop and so began my problems. immediately after, the movie we were watching froze up constantly and so i restarted only to find the folder question mark. i booted up in target disk mode and tried to repair the disk using my other mac. disk utility couldn't fix it so i though maybe it was time for a HDD upgrade. the next day when i tried to salvage the files, the drive couldn't be seen anymore by either the boot cd or my other mac. so i replaced the hard drive and now, it doesn't detect the internal drive i put in at all. i took the new drive to a local shop to get it formatted and partitioned guid for os installation but when it was put back into the laptop, still no go. in between the original drive failing but still read by the laptop to not reading any hard drive at all, what could have transpired? i'm a bit lost as to what could've happened and whether i need to replace the HDD cable or (god forbid) the logic board. any help at all will be much appreciated. thanks!

@cmcsk they offered to format the disk for free in case my laptop was just not reading it due to it being unformatted. so the new drive was fine and it was successfully formatted. anything beyond that will incur a charge. since i feel capable of replacing parts i just was hoping to find out if this is just a boot issue getting the laptop to recognize the drive, if there are any startup sequences i can do to reset the brain of the laptop or is this sounding like a parts/hardware issue. i guess i'm hoping it's a reset thing because i haven't done anything from the time the laptop could still see the old drive (tried to repair it and no go) to not seeing any drive at all.
can the logic board confuse itself to the point of destruction? :-)

  • External Hard Drive/Not Showing Up on Desktop

I have a G4, running OS X 10.2.8 and recently my kids deleted some important data. So--we bought an external hard drive (WD MyBook 160 GB Essential Edition, which says on the box that it runs 10.2.8 and higher).
We took the external hard drive and the computer to a reputable repair place, the guy there took the hard drive out and using a G6 system, restored what he could to the external hard drive.
We bring it home, plug it in, and the computer is not reading the new external hard drive. I did check in disk utility, and it shows up as a greyed out item on the disk utility.
The external hard drive does show up when hooked up to my husband's office PC.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to correct it?
    Thanks, Ruth

OK, I figured it out (in case anyone else needs to know) with this information from the Western Digital site:
Macintosh Operating System 10.3.x or earlier will only recognize FAT32 partitions that are smaller than 128-gigabytes. Multiple FAT32 partitions smaller than 128-gigabytes will need to be created in order for Macintosh Operating System 10.3.x or earlier to recognize the partitions. You will need to use a Windows based computer to create FAT32 partitions, as Macintosh does not have the ability to create them.
Macintosh Operating System 10.4.x or later can recognize FAT32 partitions over 128-gigabytes.

  • Hard drive not showing up in disk utility

We had a couple power outages a few days ago.
But everything worked fine last night when I shut down.
Started up--no chime--and got question mark in folder flashing icon.
Started up with G5 OSX install disk 1. Ran Disk Utility and hard drive DOES NOT show up. Checked again and again. Same thing. Zapped PRAM and did the "X" key thing (according to Apple documents). Now it starts up with chime. Still no hard drive.
I read other older posts with similar problems. Sentiment was that the hard drive was fried.
I have most clients work backed up. But if I can retrieve their data, I'd give up the whole computer. I really need that data. What are my chances that the hard drive is gone? I don't want to spend alot of money with an apple tech out here if its probably dead. I'll just buy a new hard drive and start all over.
Took the Tech Tool disk that came with Apple Care (on another computer; I don't have Apple care on this G5) and ran diagnostics. It just hangs up at "Scanning Volumes" with nothing labeled in the Volume drop-down menu.
    Please advise!

Yeah, dadof3, you were right. I dropped it off at a authorized repair shop in Evanston, IL (lapin systems) and they told me the bad news. So they're putting in a 250 GB startup drive w/a new Tiger system AND putting aside a new Lacie 250 GB external firewire drive for me.
Instead of archiving jobs once a month and never doing back-ups, I'll be backing up my production folders DAILY with that external drive. I'll unplug it from the power supply upon completion of the backup.
Thanks for the last-ditch suggestion. I'll do the freezer thing and then connect to bay 2. Meanwhile, I'll be calling clients and dreading revision or re-order requests from jobs started between September and now (gulp). At least I have backups on another computer for my latest jobs.
This was a terrible lesson. Bitter, yet humbling. To all those who use their computers to put food on the table, don't be a fool like me! NEVER go without daily backups for jobs in progress or jobs not archived.

  • Hard drives not showing up in BIOS of UCS C22M3 Server

    Hi there,
I am wondering if someone can help me work out why my internal hard drives aren't showing up in the BIOS. When I enable the RAID controller and set up an array they are detected and placed online, but if I remove the RAID array they do not show up in the BIOS as a device from which I can boot from. I am using the onboard SCU as the RAID controller and it makes no difference with this enabled or not, the internal hard drives do not show up in the BIOS. I have tried many different combinations but are unable to ever see the drives listed in the BIOS. Initially when I first received the server I was sure this was the case but have since formatted the drives. I have also tried resetting the BIOS settings to default.
I would be most grateful if someone could help me as I have been working on this problem for a long time with no success.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tim
This image shows the drives with the array active, if I remove the array the drives still show up on this screen but not in BIOS.

Hey Tim, welcome to the communy!
I don't think you are even supposed to see the individual disks as a boot option.  For all I know UCS is not intendeed to use its disks as JBOD (we'll see if that changes with new technologies like Hadoop) reason why you dont see the disks; you can see the RAID controller as a boot option  if you enable it to control the disks.
I made the test in a C220 with a PCIe RAID controller (I don't have a C22 but it is very similar) and when I went to BIOS I didn't see the disks listed either, then I rebooted and pressed F6 and still the disks are not showing up, only the PCIe RAID controller showed up as a boot option:
    Last 2 things:
1-Why do you want to see the individual disks as a boot option?
2-Have you check another C22 or any other model to see if the behavior is different? If this does not happen on other servers (which I think it is NOT going to be the case) open a TAC case for further investigation.

  • External Hard Drive Not Showing Files

Hi. I'm really in a panic right now because school starts tomorrow and a problem occurred with my external hard drive today. Before I start, I would like to clarify that I use a Macbook Pro 15" (not Retina Display). Here is what happened:
Around 6 months ago, I was organizing the contents of my external hard drive into folders (i.e. "Movies" > "Romance," "Action," "Horror," etc.). In the midst of doing so, my laptop kind of froze and before I knew what was happening, the contents of the "Movies" folder was invisible. The "Movies" folder itself was still visible and accessible, but its contents were not. When I double-clicked the "Movies" folder, nothing would be shown. It was as if it was empty. The problem is that something was still taking up space on my external hard disk. When my friends asked to copy some of my movies onto their computers, I agreed and saw that they could access the "Movies" folder on their Mac laptops! This means that it was probably a problem with my Mac laptop. I decided to ignore it because I was still able to access the contents of the folder if I plugged in my external hard drive into my TV (it's an LG TV).
Today, I decided that I've had enough with the invisible folder. I needed to access movies from the folder and because I couldn't access it, I got very stressed and decided to repair it myself. It was probably one of the worst decisions I've ever made.
I opened Disk Utilities and clicked "Repair Disk" and then "Verify Disk." I then clicked "Repair Disk" again just to be safe (which was absolutely stupid in hindsight). Hoping it would have solved the problem, I ejected my external hard drive and plugged it back in. Once I plugged it in and opened it, I was faced with this:
There was absolutely nothing else visible in my external hard drive. The reason I'm still fighting to fix this and not throwing out the hard disk is that when I got the info of my hard drive, a lot of space was still taking up my hard drive. Here is what I did (the name of my external hard drive is "Mines of Moria"):
Mines of Moria > right-click > Get Info
Once the info was shown ("Mines of Moria Info"), I saw this:
Do you see how annoying this is?! It clearly states that there is only 17.78 GB left on the external hard drive meaning that there are a LOT of files on this hard drive considering its capacity is 1 TB, but I can't access or see anything inside the external hard drive! I tried to open my hard drive on my brother's Alienware (Windows 7), but it couldn't open it because its format. I also tried plugging it into my LG TV and the only folder visible is the "found.000" folder and I can't access it.
Please give me some advice as to what I can do as soon as possible. I am willing to go to a store to fix it, but I would much rather try to do it myself at home. I transferred all my movies from my laptop to this external hard drive because I had no more space on my laptop (yes, almost 90% of the space taken up on my external hard drive is used up by movies and episodes).
Please help me. I also have school files on here (granted, they are from two years ago, but you never know when you're going to use them). I'm a HUGE movie junkie and I've downloaded so many movies that I don't even remember what I downloaded last week (I just can't keep track of which ones I've downloaded when).
This is really important to me, so I would be VERY grateful for any and all relevant and helpful tips and advice.

The problem is caused by the third-party software you installed in order to make NTFS volumes writable. Refer to the developer for support. You might be able to repair the volume in Windows using the CHKDSK program.

  • External Hard Drives not showing

I have 2 external hard drives connected using FW 800, a Western Digital 500TB & a Seagate 500TB. The Western Digital has a habit of freezing and the last time this happened I powered down the iMac. When I re started the iMac neither external hard drive is showing on the desk top what's happening and how do I cure this?

    HI MIke,
To start with if your forum profile is correct you need to update your system softare to 10.5.8. Go here and install the v10.5.8 Combo Update
Also, in the Finder from the Menu Bar click Finder/Preferences and select the General tab.
Select the 2nd button and relaunch the Finder.

  • External Hard Drive not showing in my computer

I have an external hard drive that im trying to connect to my computer with usb2.0 and it doesn't show up in my computer.  I can see it in Disk Management and it says its Online but doesn't assign a letter to it.  I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
I have 2 internal drives.  I have tried assigning the backup drive to different letters and that doesn't seem to work.  Any ideas???

    Hi,
I understand that the external USB hard drive doesn’t show in Windows Explorer but detected in Disk Management.
To resolve this kind of issue, I would like to propose the following suggestions:
    1.
Go to Device Manager, uninstall the USB hard drive,
scan for the hardware change and let Windows automatically re-install driver for your device.
    2.
Open Registry Editor, navigate to the following item:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices
Find if your device is registered and assigned a letter.
As a work around, I suggest you accessing the external hard drive via a Command Prompt, copy out the data, then format the hard drive.
    1)
Click Start, type: cmd in the Search bar.
    2)
Right Click cmd and click Run as Administrator.
    3)
    Type the following command:
    Copy [source] [destination]
    Best Regards

I have a external hard drive and
when i turn it on the icon for the drive does not show up.
I used disk warrior and it found sever damaged sections of the drive.
i fixed that and it is still not mounting. Should it get a new hard drive?

    Hi Josh,
I used disk warrior and it found sever damaged sections of the drive.
Did it repair them? If you run DW again does it report it as OK?
Open Disk Utility & see if it shows up there, if so highlight it & see if the Mount button/icon mounts it.

  • USB Hard Drive not showing up in AirPort Utility

I have been using this AirPort Extreme for over two years now and it's been working fine. I finally decided to buy a self-powered USB hard drive so I can share it over the network. However, after I unpacked the hard drive, connected it to my Mac and reformatted it to HFS+ Journaled and GUID. I plugged the hard drive into my AirPort Extreme's USB port and waited. I looked in my AirPort Utility and saw nothing in the disk list.
I spent hours searching online and discovered that I am not alone in this problem, although solutions are rare. I did try one solution where I hooked up the USB hard drive to a powered USB hub and the hub into AirPort Extreme. It actually worked once and after I rebooted everything, even though the hard drive still showed up in the disk list, no computers can connect to it. Although if I connect the hard drive directly to a Mac, it would still work perfectly.
Having a USB hub is not a long term solution not that it's working anymore anyway. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have, thanks!
