Hardcover book cover image

Is there a way to NOT have a printed image on the cover?
I have removed the print from the cover, by carefully peeling it off, but, it looks bad. I was interested if anyone new of a way to order it without it?
Thanks!
Dual PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I have the same issue. I just received my first books and like to internal quality but the photo on the cover is alrealy wrinkling and will eventually peel off.
Can we omit the photo or have a text title embossed on the cover?

  • Print Book Cover , image, and spine

    Hello Adobe Community,
Can you provide me with step by step instructions on how to create a print 8x5 book cover that includes a spine for 8x5 book, image, and 150 pages in Adobe Acrobat XI 11.0 or Word 2014?
    Thanks for your help,

  • What is the required book cover image size for ePub?

    Hi all
I am trying to follow the insturcitons in the Publisher Setup guide for uploading my ePub file to the iBook store. Having gone through this process with Amazon I am gobsmacked by how unhelpful the guidance is from Apple.
It is asking me for a cover image but I cannot see anything telling the required spec for this - on Amazon they tell you min and max dimensions and what the required dpi is but (unless I've missed a whole bunch of instrucitons somewhere!) I see no such info in the guide or in the iTunes connect screens.
Can someone please help me here?  After googling I found these forum pages and saw that someone had said the cover image must be at least 600dpi and max height of 740 pixels - is that right? (odd as on Amazon you only need 72dpi!)
Just in case anyone can help here too - my ePub file already has the cover image included in it - do I therefore need to separetely add this standalone cover image?
Really grateful if anyone can help on this.
    Many thanks
    Karen Inglis

    From Apple about book covers:
JPEG with “.jpg” extension (quality unconstrained) or PNG with “.png” extension
    RGB (screen standard)
600 pixels minimum along the larger axis. For an average trade paperback, this could be 400x600minimum size, as the books are generally taller than they are wide.
Covers may not reference pricing, the physical edition, or include any other wording that may notnecessarily be true for the digital edition.
Yes, a separate cover file is needed for display. My experience is if you have a cover for Amazon that is 600 px or greater on the longest side, you are fine with Apple.
Step back and take a breath. We all go through this the first time.

  • Using Aperture, I printed a large hardcover book.  Upon delivery, I found a gross error in wording on the cover.  Is there a way to get the cover only reprinted?

Using Aperture, I printed a large hardcover book.  Upon delivery, there was a spelling error on the cover  of the books.  Is it possible to get just the cover of the books reprinted correctly?

No.  If Aperture works similar to iPhoto as far a creating PDFs of the book you can create a pdf of the book and using it find a printer like Kinkos that could print a new cover. The PDF file that gets created by Control-clicking the background in the book mode will create the correct type of pdf file for this:
In iPhoto the PDF that gets created when you try to print the book and select PDF ➙ Save as PDF creates the wrong format for what you want.  If you have trouble creating that PDF file ask over in the Aperture forum.

  • I've made ibooks and the paper covers have a picture  & title, But the hardcover book shows no picture is just black with the title. My friend made an ibook, the hardbook & cover had the picture as the paper cover. How do I get my ibook to do the same?

I have made many ibooks and the paper covers have a picture and title. But the hardcover book inside is black with only the title. ie: Year 2013
My friend made a book and the paper cover had the picture and title, but the hardbook also had the picture and title. It looked just like the paper cover.
How do I get my next book to do the same?

    What version of iPhoto?
DIfferent themes have different layouts available for the cover - pick one that you like

  • HT3412 When creating a hardcover book, is the flap paper or printed on the cover and inside the book?

When creating a hardcover book, is the flap paper of printed on the cover and inside the cover?

No. The book jacket is spearate from the rest of the book and inludes the photos and text boxes that you select in iPhoto.  There are no photos or text printed on the hard cover, outside or inside.  It's just like book jackets on commercial hard cover books.

  • Hardcover book printing from iPhoto 6

I'm using iPhoto 6 and getting ready to print a hardcover book. Everything looks pretty good so far except for the cover. I want the photo on the cover to be a full bleed print instead of what I see in the preview on my screen. On my screen it appears that there is a large border surrounding the photo which looks like the material of the cover itself. It seems that in iLife '08 that there are full bleed print options on the cover. I'm only basing that statement by what I see on the website for the iLife '08 page under "iPhoto Print Products". I'd hate to put all this effort and money into a book that isn't represented by an attractive cover. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello, herbyd,
I am afraid that if you want a different cover, you will have to select a different theme for your book. The one you are seeing is indeed a pic which is essentially a picture stuck onto the front cover of the hardback book. However, the end result is nowhere near as bad as that sounds, as that is the version I ordered as a Christmas present. I think it looks great, but the nature of the material of the chosen hardback book would make it impossible to have a full-bleed image, as the photo is not printed directly onto the cover.

  • InDesign CS5.5 EPUB export not showing cover image in Adobe Digital Editions

I have a document that I am trying to ensure is reflecting the cover image prior to uploading to several EPUB sites like google and Barnes and Noble. I am using Adobe Digital Editions, Calibre, Firefox (EPUBReader) to do the troubleshooting on the document. Calibre shows the cover image Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) does not. Are their any known problems with ADE not reflecting the cover image that I need to be aware of before I continue working on this?
The ADE help says the following:
"Once the items are in your library, there are two ways to view the content of any bookshelf. You can view thumbnails of your items. The thumbnail is the cover page of the item (or just the first page if it doesn't have a cover page). In this view, you see the set of thumbnails and some information about each item (author, title). You can also sort the order in which the items are shown by author, title, date created, number of pages, and so forth."
Here is basic informaiton. I have a cover page in my export to EPUB but ADE will only show the first page. Again Calibre shows the cover page.
    CS 5.5
The project is a book (indb) composed of multiple documents (indd)
Exporting as book as an EPUB
On general tab I am "Use existing image"
I am rasterizing the first image in Indesign via the "Object - Object export options" but I am not selecting that option when on the general tab of the Export to EPUB options. I am chosing a file from my disk. I thought that maybe the file name was too long but I changed the image to "cover.jpg" and reexported it but it still does not work.
Here are the contents of the content.opf file with all the pointers. I have updated the file as I believe you can tell with guides, creation date, etc....
    It passes the SIGIL check.
The image name is Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg. It is 300 dpi and 1650 x 2550. I could also cut in the one that I did for cover.jpg but it only replaces the file name.

I have also been trying to get this cover image to display on PC for NOOK but it appears that everyone is having hits problem too. I have followed some trouble shooting guides and renamed the jpg image, Democracy in Business Dust Jacket 300dpi.jpg to cover.jpg but that doesn't seem to work either for NOOK.
Any help you can give would be appreciated. I am new to InDesign (I know you probably hate hearing that, but I have gotten so close to being done overcoming all the new user hurdles). I think this is my last one before uploading to the appropriate sites - PS. I got the cover page to show up on the Kindle but not Adobe's own product.
    Thanks

ebookjunkie, I have just used InDesign to publish two very short "books" (.99 cent variety) and started this thread with the first question. Look to Bob for the expert advice. This is neophyte advice from someone moving from publishing a full book using Word to EPUB/Kindle and now using InDesign to publish to EPUB/Kindle.
First ADE is useless. I say this out of frustration of trying to use it to troubleshoot problems and it has so many problems in displaying an EPUB that you spend a lot of time troubleshooting ADE issues rather than EPUB problems. The problems are not limited to but won't display a cover page properly, text wrapping is iffy, Drop caps a problem, bringing over supported items like drop caps, all small caps, etc.... are also issues as best I can tell. Humble opinion is delete off your desktop. I use the following to troubleshoot my EPUB's/Kindle books on my Windows platform; Calibre, Barnes and Noble's Nook for PC and iPhone iTunes for EPUB (Sigil to look for errors); and for Kindle, Kindle previewer and Kindle for the PC. Even after doing this, I just today saw my book a buyer's Android "Reader" and the pictures did not display at all. So it is publish once and test everywhere! Unfortunately, you just can't test all the possible devices and iterations of readers. (I am from IBM and we couldn't do it, so how publishers are supposed to figure it out is beyond me!)
On the absolutely great news end, you will see a lot of problems about placing images on the iPad with a lot of workarounds. They apparently (Apple) have fixed this as my two publications show images nicely now on both the iPhone and iPad with the iTunes bookshelf/reader. They were "microdots" when viewed previously. I did nothing to fix it and was just not going to publish to the iPAd and just tested them a few weeks ago and they display perfectly. So Apple has fixed the problem. If it looks good on the Nook for PC, it should look good on the iPAD/iPhone now as best I can tell.
    Cheers

  • Gallery title text cut off and cover image not updating

    Hello,
I've been struggling with this for a couple of weeks now, and it's driving me mad. I've been making a book in iBook Author on my iMac (10.10.2). When I preview it in iBooks on the mac it all looks fine, but when I send it to my iPad2 (iOS 8.2), which I do via dropbox, the front cover image reverts to the default for the template I choose, and gallery and interactive widget title text gets cut off (see attached pic) regardless of the size I make it, or the indent I specify.
I've tried deleting the book several times, restarted the iPad, and whatever I do it still appears the same.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
    Cheers,
    Kev.

    Hi Christine,
When you say " It's not there when viewed outside of Cp/swf. Using v5.5.l", does that mean this problem only occurs in a specific output?
Try this -- Go to preferences-- SWF Size and Quality and under customer, uncheck Advance Project Compression, republish the course and check the results.
    Thanks,

  • Title on spine of hardcover book cut off

    Hi!
I've been ordering books via iPhoto for many years and was shocked at the latest batch I received this week.
I had chosen to do a hardcover book with wrap around cover.  The title on the spine was cut off, featuring only part of it which was odd and looks strange.  It should match what is on the front cover.
As usual, I did a preview before ordering it.  The spine was not visible in the preview and I had no way of actually making any changes to it since
I can't see it in iPhoto.
These books are Christmas gifts for my family and I'm horrified that it was printed incorrectly.
I'm hard of hearing and can't use the phone - I have not been able to contact Apple since they only list phone numbers - does anyone know how to connect with them directly via email?  Help!
Here's an attachment that shows the problem.
    > Mac OS X (ver. 10.6.8) iPhoto 11 - ver. 9.1.3 (607)

The group you want to get in contact with is called Print Products, they are part of the Apple Online Store. You are correct, they do not have an email contact, only support via phone. I did see on the Apple "contact us" page a support number for hearing and visually impared, says they have advisors trained in accesibilty services, they may be able to help. the number is 877-204-3930. • How do I convert my book cover pdf and text pdf to grayscale?

1 ) How do I convert my photoshop book cover pdf to CMYK and remove all color and 2) How do I convert my Indesign text pdf file 'to grayscale for all black and whit images'?

Hello Mylenium, thank you for responding. My query has to do with the fact that it is already in pdf mode and it needs to be sent to the book printer. They will only accept the file in grayscale for the text matter file and the colored cover file needs to be in CMYK. I can't seem to correct the issue with everything internally that I've done. I currently have Acrobat XI and the tutorial creation files are in an earlier screen. So, the flow is not the same. I do not see the flow of conversion in the Ac. XI as they show in their creation file demands. Does this make sense?

  • Large Hardcover Book

I just placed an order for a large hardcover book from iPhoto and have recently read that the quality on the medium sized books was mediocre. Is this true for the large hardcover books?
Also, how's the quality on the calendars and greeting cards? I'm thinking about ordering some for the holidays.
    Thanks!

    NtM:
The large hardcover books that I've ordered were great. Absolutely no problems at all. The two medium books that I've ordered were OK for their intended use, memory book of a day at Seaworld for the grandkids, but the image quality was not nearly as good. The medium book had a halftone pattern that was visible to the naked eye if held close to the eye. The same pattern required a 10X eye loupe to see the pattern.
The difference was, I think, due to different printers used for each size. I haven't ordered one in a while so don't know if the medium books have changed.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • What are the pixel dimensions for creating an Apple ibook book cover?

I'm trying to create a book cover for Apple ibooks, what are the pixel dimensions requirements?

    Thanks again.
Apple seems to have made it more confusing than it should be.
As an aside, the Apple documentation contradicts itself.
Cover art (also known as a marketing image or jacket) should be at least 1400 pixels along the smaller axis and must be a JPEG or PNG file in RGB Color mode.
This clearly says the shorter side must be at least 1400 pixels. The next sentence says this:
For an average trade paperback, this could be 400 x 1400 minimum size, as the books are generally taller than they are wide.
That doesn't make sense, seeing that the shorter side is supposed to be at least 1400 pixels, meaning it should say "1400 x 4900" for the same aspect ratio.
    ...I did notice this too.
So, if as you say, that the Cover Art and Cover image terms are the same and the 2 million limit does not apply, then it is unclear to me why Apple sent this message to me about cover file being rejected
"Action Required: Your book could not be delivered to the iBookstore.
The following images are larger than two million pixels and must be resized:
    Full ePub: Cover_xyz.jpg "
I'll probably need to have the cover file in epub and Cover Image for Asset in iTunes Producer be named differently (but be copies of the same file) so I can understand which one is the "problem" file.
And finally, why does Apple refer to Cover Art twice here and then end in last sentence with Cover Image if they are the same ( and if they are the same why not state "this cover image").
"Cover art (also known as a marketing image or jacket) should be at least 1400 pixels along the smaller axis and must be a JPEG or PNG file in RGB Color mode. For an average trade paperback, this could be 400 x 1400 minimum size, as the books are generally taller than they are wide. For best results, deliver the largest pixel dimensions possible. When possible, match cover art to the cover contained in the book file. The 2 million pixel maximum does not apply to the cover image".

  • Ibooks changes the dimensions of cover image

I have been working on an epub using Calibre as the converter platform. I have used the program in the past and it always works until now. I am working on a new book and the cover image dimensions are changed in iBooks. The image looks correct when I view it in an image viewer.
I have revised the cover image several times to change the dimensions, change the file size, modify the pixel count. The current dimensions are 1500 by 2400 pixels which is a size I have used before. The file size is 226kB. Any suggestions on how to get the cover image to show up correctly?

You don't think it would be that hard to get ACR to better match the in-camera engine...
I understand if its not able to read the "special" in camera user settings, such as increase saturation, etc as that may be proprietary...
But it (ACR) already knows what type of camera you are using... It would be nice if Adobe would make it at least set to better match the out-of-box camera settings per camera... it would be a much better starting point than the flat, discolored images I see, IMHO.
Example... the reds in my Rebel XT RAW's always come up orange, both in LR and ACR.

  • How to add a title to the book cover/spine?

    Hi,
appears to be a stupid question, but I couldn't find any answer in the Videos by JK o any other help page:
How can I add a title to he book cover and the spine of a blurb-book made in LR5?
I could not find any cover template having a title (only a lot of text).
    Thanks a lot in advance,
        schleifi

I have worked with Booksmart and made one book successfully. I have also made a book in Lr 5.2 and had it printed by Blurb to my satisfaction.
Compared to creating a book in Lr the workflow in Booksmart is cumbersome and slow.
    (1) During the creation of a book in Lr I test the book often by exporting it as a PDF. This option is only available when you select PDF instead of Blurb - but it is possible to switch between PDF and Blurb without harm. The only change is that the Blurb logo page disappears when PDF is selected. Viewing the PDF in Acrobat tells me what the book will look like in print since my monitor is calibrated and set to the correct intensity (brightness).  It also tells me if my sharpening is good. For the export to PDF I select 100 for quality; color profile sRGB; file resolution 300; sharpening High; media type glossy.
A Blurb representative told me that these settings come close to the settings that Lr uses when the book is uploaded to Blurb.
In Booksmart I can't export to PDF.
BTW you should sharpen the image so much that it looks a bit too sharp in your PDF. When the boook is printed the ink droplets spread out a tiny bit before they dry. This tends to make the print softer than it looks on screen.
    (2) Booksmart is not color managed. Therefore in Booksmart you have no feedback how your book will look in print. If you want to test your images you have to softproof them in Photoshop.
    (3) When I make a book I find often that my develop adjustments are not optimal. In Lr it is very easy to switch the the Develop Module, make the necessary adjustments and switch back to the Book Module. With Booksmart you have to export the adjusted image again - or it has to be re-published if you use the Blurb plug-in.
    (4) In the past I have made complaints that Lr does not give enough flexibility for the layout. Since then I have worked more in Lr and I find the Book Module actually quite good.
I find that the full page bleed allows the most flexibility for creating my own layout. Starting with a full page bleed I use the padding feature to place the image anywhere on the page and in any size I want. The boxes for "Page Text" and "Photo Text" allow for more than one column. The text can be edited by adjusting Tracking (all letters are spaced wider/closer), Kerning (individual pairs of letters can be spaced), Baseline (letters can be pushed up or down), or Leading (the distance between different lines of text can be adjusted). There are no such features in Booksmart.
    (5) Selecting a color for page background or for text is cumbersome in Booksmart. In Lr it's easy.
The cover of my first book in Lr looks like this:
