Hardrive failure / Can I sync with a new library?
I bought a new computer...can I sync new library with ipod without "erase and sync"?
First off Leopard won't let you get rid of the Library or change it you also cannot remove the folders inside of the library or change their name. You can however remove the contents of the folders in the library.
As far as doing doing harm, yes down right removing the library will do harm, not to your pictures or your music, personal documents however it holds all your preferences, the data in iCal, address-book, mail, bookmarks, user specific widgets and that is just a start of the Apple programs built into the OS and doesn't touch on 3rd party applications.
So I advise to start in the ~/library/preferences folder, look for toast preferences, then proceed to other preferences. But don't delete them move them to the desktop then log out or restart and test.
You can also try removing the caches folder in the library (you can trash it).
However unless you are comfortable with using the root user or terminal I would advise backing up your data and migrating to a new user. Because without root or terminal doing anything but the preferences folder gets tedious.

I have forgotten my appleID password and the email it is linked to is deactivated, security questions aren't working. This is on my iPhone and iTunes acs so I can't sync with my new computer. How do I merge AppleID accounts and shut down the old one (when I have no password and the security questions aren't working?)
You cannot merge Apple ID accounts, that has never been supported.
You can contact the Apple ID Security folks per the listing in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699 and they can help reset security questions and get the account working. -

My ipods Library won't sync with the new Library
Hi, I had do erase everything off my hard drive to fix a problem with my iphone today and when I went to restore itunes, my ipod won't sync with the library. I get the message that I would need to erase everything on my ipod because its sync with another library and sync with the new library which just has the things I brought in the itunes store. I have a lot more music that the music I got in itunes. So my question is how can I copy the flies (music/videos/movies) from my ipod to the new library? Please help me. Thank You.
You erased your hard drive without making sure you had a current backup copy of your music?
You can try a 3rd party program to get the music off ( this is not supported by Apple).
You can also try a forum search ( right side of this page), as this is asked and answered very often.

I purchased a new desktop computer, downloaded iTunes, authorized the computer thru iTunes, but, unable to sync with iPad3. I get a message stating "sync will resume when OWNER HP in on-line. That was the old computer, which no longer has iTunes on it. What can I do?
You still have to make the new computer and the iTunes library the new syncing library. Did you transfer all of your content into iTunes yet or copy the iTunes library from the old PC to the new one?
If you no longer have the old computer and did not copy the iTunes library to the new one, read this user tip.

If you did tranfer everything over, you probably have to set up WiFi syncing again in iTunes in order for the iPad WiFi settings to see your new computer. -

My custom ringtones don't show up in my iTunes library (only on my iPhone library) so I'm afraid that if I sync to the new computer I'll lose my tones. I've tried backing up on my computer, but then I can't find that information to bring into iTunes. I've tried backing up to the Cloud, but it requires me purchasing more space (which I don't want to do). I've already turned off most of my apps, but I'm still over the limit.

I hope someone can help! I had iTunes on my home computer which my ex husband now has. I have since purchased a laptop & downloaded iTunes but cannot complete a sync with my iPhone4 - it keeps coming up with error messages like "This computer is no longer authorised for apps that are installed on the iPhone. Would you like to authorise this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store". I click on "Authorise" & then I get another error message stating that this computer is already authorised & that this is the 2nd computer authorised. I try to update to the latest version of 4.3.3 but keep getting an error message that there was a problem downloading the software & that the network connection timed out. It gets up to about stage 4 of syncing (apps) & then crashes again. Can anyone help me please????
Im having the EXACT same problem! Help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any of my music, so someone please help!!!
You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

How can I sync with this library without erasing my data?
The iPod "Sayira's iPod" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library? An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library.
So, okay, here's my story: My laptop caught a virus, so i sent it to this guy who fixes computers, now that my laptop is fixed, everything is deleted from it. I didn't really mind this too much, but anyway I redownloaded iTunes to my new hardrive and then it said the following (posted above). My question is, how can i sync with this new library without erasing any data from my apps (such as games, photos, videos, music)? I REALLY don't want to lose this data!- Transffer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.
Copy music
- Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
- Restore the IPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does no include symec media like apps and music. -
i have two ipods that are synced to my previous itunes account that was on my macbook before the hard drive crashed. i can't sync with the new itunes on the new hard drive - help!
Why did you start a new account?
Copy everything from your backup copy of your computer to your new hard drive.
Ipod will sync to one itunes library at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content from the ipod.
