Hardware clock and system clock don't match

hello. i recently upgraded to kde 4.7, and i don't know if it's the culprit or not, but my system clock is now ahead of the hardware clock by the timezone offset.
my timezone is Asia/Manila, which is UTC+8. so if the correct time is 00:00, the system time is 08:00.
i dual boot with windows so the HARDWARECLOCK setting in /etc/rc.conf is set to localtime.
interestingly, the commands "hwclock --show" and "date" both show PHT as the timezone, but with the aforementioned time skew. to illustrate:
# hwclock --show
Fri 05 Aug 2011 10:45:02 AM PHT -0.500309 seconds
# date
Fri Aug 5 18:45:02 PHT 2011
running "hwclock --hctosys" fixes the problem while logged in, but restarting the computer reverts the problem. i could put a daemon that runs the command at startup, but i never needed to do that before and i'm not inclined to at the moment. i think this is just a misconfiguration somewhere.
thanks for any help you could give.

  • From and/or subject don't match msg body

Hello all. Two weeks ago I posted this problem under a different head, but got no replies, so let me try again as it is messing up maybe 5% of my email.
Every morning I collect email--from 40 to 70 messages, many forwarded from Gmail--and message filtering usually works efficiently to transfer from Inbox to folders. But somewhere along the line, 1 to 3 emails get muddled together: the from and/or subject don't match the text, and sometimes the displayed text includes the Msg Source, including text, from some other, unrelated email.
I've been using FF and TB for more than 10 years now, and believe this kind of email muddling dates only to the last couple months. I use the latest Thunderbird under Windows 7 on a Dell desktop. I have 4 hopefully innocent addons. Of course I can send screenshots and forward the message source for analysis.
Hoping this time to attract attention to the problem! Thanks!

This is an indication of file corruption. Lack of maintenance on your email folders is the usual cause of this.
You can try to repair the file tables and see if that helps. Be prepared to lose messages if the corruption is too bad.
Right click the problem folder. Select Properties and then Repair Folder.
Then read this article about best practices to help prevent this in the future.

  • Membership and system clock

    Hello,
While I had Creative Cloud apps installed on trial, I changed the system clock and the trials expired early. I found out this was normal. My question is: if I purchase a Creative Cloud membership and change the system clock again, will it also expire my membership early?
    Thanks in advance

Alright, after chatting with an agent, apparently the answer is that there is no impact.

  • Arch64 and system clock havoc

    Hello,
I recently upgraded my HP DV6140 laptop to Arch64. I used to use 32bit, but found myself impressed with how smooth things have become with the 64bit version. However, I soon found out that 1/4 of the time I boot up, I get a hard crash. This is always at Configuring System Clock in the boot process. Also, about 3/4 of the time when I change the date/time I get a hard crash. Annoying as hell, being that I can't use NTP to sync my time/date settings without frequent crashing. Any ideas on this? It was never a problem with 32bit Arch.
I've tried kernel 2.6.19, and 2.6.17beyond and both result in the same problem. I also tried tinkering with localtime and UTC in the rc.conf file with no luck on fixing this.

I have ntpd running as server and use it as client on two systems without any problem. Do you have entries in any logfile when it crashes?
I only remember that the rtc kernel module was tricky when it was built as module. That's why we had put it directly into the kernel in early 2.6.14 days.
As far as the logs go I could not find anything out of the ordinary. If you would like you can have a look at my logs, I uploaded it to:

  • ITunes, iPhoto and system clock crash after migrating from Snow Leopard

    Hello everyone,
I had MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard but had to migrate to older one with 10.5.8 today.
After 4 hours it finished and everything seems fine except 3 things:
    1. iTunes crashes on each launch attempt. I even followed an article to uninstall it, got a new one from apple.com but I still have the same issue.
    2. iPhoto opens with success and shows folders overview, but when I click to enlarge a photo I get a blank screen. After about 2 minutes the program quits unexpectedly.
    3. System clock behaves really strange. It seems to ignore time zone settings completely. I select Melbourne, Australia and quit Sys preferences but when I get there back I still have GMT time. Setting manually gives me nothing - time of email is still GMT.
Anyone have seen similar problems after migrating? My primary guess is that this issues are caused by migrating to older Mac OS version, but maybe it's not the point. Anyway, would be great to have this fixed. Without iPhoto, iTunes and proper times in e-mail inbox my Mac is pretty useless...

I installed this update, restarted but nothing helped. By permissions - what do you exactly mean, how could they change or what could be broken?
I also noticed that what is broken as well are the PYM Player and Quick Time. When I open a movie, I got the sound but no video output at all. It is similar to iPhoto where I see the miniatures but normal size viewing goes blank.
Does anyone has a clue what can be broken that causes such problems?
My Mac is now really just an e-mailing and surfing machine...

  • ITunes 4.8 and system clock freeze up when docking my iPod

Hi. Here are the details of my problem:
When the iPod is already docked and charging and THEN I launch iTunes I get the dock bounce once or twice (usual) and the tiny black up arrow under the green iTunes icon is the dock indicating a running app. Sadly, I get no iTunes window, the system clock in the top right corner of the screen freezes, and the mouse arrow turn to spinning beach ball only when I move the mouse over said frozen clock. No other problems though. All other apps work fine even if already launched. This happens every time and has been for weeks now.
    Current workaround:
Even if the clock has been frozen for hours with a stalled iTunes launch, at the EXACT moment I pull the iPod from the dock the iTunes app come up with my library selected, as it should, and the corner clock resumes with correct time just fine. If I dock the iPod at this point it all syncs up just fine, as usual. Similarly, if I wait to dock the iPod for syncing or just charging purposes AFTER iTunes has already been launched I have no problems, ever.
    Weird. What gives?

    Laura,
For what it's worth it feels nice to know I not the only one. I restored and wiped my iPod a few time too with, unfortunately, no change. The problem continues.
It remains true for me that if iTunes has already been launched when i dock the iPod I have no problems. But if I launch iTunes with an already docked iPod it's freeze up city for me.
Is it possible that we're the only two people with this issue? We need to find strength in numbers if a fix is to be uncovered or programed by apple.

  • Printing from InDesign and Photoshop - colors don't match

I'm printing the same CMYK image from Photoshop and from InDesign, to a HP desktop color printer. I'm using CS3, all the color settings are identical in both programs, but the printed colors don't match. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    (cross-posted in InDesign forum)

I have had the same problem: an image printed from PS differs from the same image printed from ID. However, I can't very well print as bitmap from ID since the image is part of a spread, including text. I have tried various combinations of settings. I made the PS image to 100% of the ID final size (in the layout). I tried various print dialogue settings (high transparency flattener, medium transparency flattener, color managed, not color managed, CMYK output and leave unchanged ... every combination I could think of). ID does something on printer output. My understanding (at least from CS2) was that ID output to printer uses a PDF format of some sort. I had the idea maybe the ID output did some sort of resampling or re-rendering of the image, but have not prooved that out. I did get some slight improvement in the ID output when the image in the ID layout was put in at 100% (whereas it had been 88% (the original image being bigger than the ID layout size). What I am getting now in CS3 is a clean looking photo in PS, but in ID, skin tones look somewhat blotchy and a bit more saturated. The PS image is better than ID, and while ID is not bad, why is it not as clean as PS? I can definitely see the difference between PS and ID output and know it will show on press, too. Any suggestions?

  • Songs and album covers don't match up?

On my 4s, when I enabled Icloud and downloaded my music library something got out of sync. Now, most songs don't match up to the album cover etc. displayed on my screen. I have tried deleting and downloading again and the problem remains. Any suggestions?

Album cover images depend on whether you downloaded the album/song off the pre-installed iTunes store on the iPod or you downloaded an mp3 from your computer into iTunes then synced it to the device, the only solution in this case without consulting apple help directly would be to try purchasing a song or album from the on-device iTunes store and seeing if you get a cover image then, otherwise I'd seek help from apple themselves as it may be a software issue and you could possibly get your device looked at or replaced under your 1 year warrantee. That is if your still covered.
    hope this helps, olly.

  • Quicktime mpeg-2 and quicktime versions don't match

I bought quicktime pro and the mpeg-2 add on but the program tells me the versions are not compatible even though they both say the same version identification.
Does anyone know why it tells me the versions are different when they aren't ?

sorry for not putting enough info.
i just bought the quicktime mpeg-2 installer and quicktime pro upgrade for quicktime 7 yesterday(3-15-2009). i installed the pro upgrade and the mpeg-2 installer.
i checked both quicktime and the mpeg-2 installer to see what versions they are. they both say version 7.60.92.0, yet i keep recieve this message:
"QuickTime MPEG2 failed to load because the versions of QuickTime and QuickTime MPEG2 do not match."
But they match exactly. I am stumped. i even uninstalled and reinstalled both of them but still the same message.

  • SIP and SMTP domains don't match

    Hi,
We’ve a situation where SIP, SMTP and AD domain are different than each other and I am sure this will present integration issues at the least...
Speaking from LYNC 2013 and exchange 2010/2013 integration standpoint, could someone please point out to integration process under below circumstances where
    SIP domain         uc.contoso.com
    SMTP domain      contoso.com
    AD domain          contoso.net
Also, how would exactly the logon will occur in this situation?
I'd appreciate if you could point me to relevant document please.
Regards, Pushkal MishrA, This posting is provided “AS IS” with no warranties and confers no rights. I request you to test the solution in lab and post successful outcome you should try this on production.

    Hi Pushkal Mishra,
It’s recommend to use the same SIP and SMTP address.
But if they are not the same, they will still work properly if you take some additional work.
I’m assuming that you have published the correct SAN certificate that has every expected SAN name for each domain, then you have to create an additional SRV record for uc.contoso.com.
    _autodiscover._tcp.uc.contoso.com
    mail.contoso.com        443
In general, Lync will look at your primary SMTP address and attempt to use it to find the EWS URL via Autodiscover after signing in. But if the SIP and SMTP address does not match, you will receive
a security prompt “Lync cannot verify that the server is trusted for your sign-in address”.
To avoid the issue, the best solution in my opinion is to use SRV records for Autodiscover to redirect Lync to the mail.contoso.com A record. (Delete the Autodiscover A record)
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Account name and user folder don't match

    Hi,
So I don't know how to change my 'User Folder' name to match my Account name.
The name of my user folder, 'sickjestrer4', was the Apple ID I entered when I first registered my Mac. And it became the name of the folder automatically.
My account name, however, is my real name, Jack XXXXX.
I want the two to match and both be called 'Jack XXXXX'.
I've tired a few things unsuccessfully and am turning here for some help.
I attached some links to a few photos that might help for clarity.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Your username on your home folder is always taken from the short name. You can change the short name of your account by right clicking on the user within the accounts pane in System Preferences and selecting Advanced Options. However this is not a smart move. It can be a complicated and painstaking process moving all required aspects and settings to the new short named account.

  • Menu Clock Hangs, System Clock remains working

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the menu clock hangs randomly. When I cursor over that area of the system menu bar the spinning beach ball appears. In System Preferences the clock reads the correct time, but none of the other options can be selected. An older OS post recommended quitting SystemUIServer using the Activity Monitor utility. That clears the problem, but it recurs. In that older post it suggests removing a preference file and having it regenerated, but the file specified doesn't seem to exist in Mountain Lion.
    Thoughts?

None of these radical fixes is acceptable (or, for that matter effective).
    Here's my symptoms, fwiw:
The clock in the menu bar regularly hangs.  Hovering the mouse pointer over it shows the swirling pinwheel busy icon.  The system knows what time it it - for instance, if I create a file it shows the right creation time.
When I access System Preferences - Date/Time, Show date and time in menu bar is not checked (though it is showing).  When I check it, it unchecks itself after a while.  Meanwhile, it shows the swirling rainbow pinwheel.
This animal is sick - and from the long history in this thread, has been for a long time.
Why does Apple not fix this?

  • Volume size and Capacity size Don't match

    Hello,
I have a fileshare running Windows 2008 R2 that has a Dynamic Disk that is 1670.78 GB formatted NTFS.  The problem is if I look at the properties of the volume it says that the capacity is 987 GB.  I'm not sure how to get the capacity up to the
    full size of the volume.
The histry is we had a 2003 x64 file share that started life as a scratch place to store files so was RAID 0, according to the original specs for the project that was what they wanted.  After time passed the share became permenant storage and loosing
it was actually a problem.  At that point I wanted to make it RAID 5.  However I also was hoping to keep the Shadow Copies to enable them to find previous versions of files so I ended up creating an iSCSI target and mirroring them through windows,
which made a full backup including the copies.  I then broke the mirror rebuilt the RAID and then re-mirrored to the new volume.  However becuase of going from RAID 0 to 5 I lost some space so had to resize the volume.  I used a 2008 R2 machine
to shring the volume and then raised the capacity back up to the full size.  However the space available never actually grew.
At that point I figured the problem was from the machine still running 2003 R2 and having been touched by a 2008 R2 machine.  So I scheduled an upgrade and the server is now running 2008 R2, however I am still missing 600GB.
I can't expand the Volume at this point since there is no free space on the disk, and if I try to shrink the volume I get the option of how much to shrink, then after saying ok I get the error: "The parameter is incorrect."   When I look in the
Application Log I see an error saying the volume wasn't defragmented because an error was encountered. "The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057)"
Please let me know any suggestions or if there is any additional information that would be helpful.
    Thank you,
    Eric

  • View table and Master table don't match

I am setting up Materialize view replication between two systems connected over a WAN. The number of rows in the master table does not match the number of rows in the Table at the view site. Is there a way I can monitor/watch or otherwise see what replicated transaction are being applied to the view. I know that rows are added to and deleted from this table over the course the the day.

If the master table is always changing, the two tables will never match completely. Take the following scenario:
time 0: Insert row A in master table
time 1: Begin refresh of remote MV
time 2: Insert row B in master table
time 3: End refresh of remote MV
At this point, the master table will have two rows (A & B) while the remote table only has row A. If there is a materialized view log on the master table, row B will be present in the log and will replicate on the next refresh. I'm not aware of any utility that lets you view the data in the materialized view log in a particularly human-readable form, however-- that data is stored in a RAW column.

  • Photo names and thumb names don't match

Apologies if this issue exists and I haven't spotted it. I have looked. Working on iPhoto 5.0 on a G3 iBook, photos held on an external 60gb LaCie drive.
My basic issue is that the names of my photos and the names of thumbs do not always match. The thumb of the same no. displays a different photo. And the thumb in the folder of a photo is often the same image but has a different no. E.g. IMG-0008.jpg has a thumb called 1485.jpg with a different date, but the image is the same.
My initial question is one of fixing. Can I somehow get rid of all these thumbs and force iPhoto into recreating them? It looks to me from reading the forum that this would be safe and possible via rebuild, but given the mess I'm in I thought I'd like to check first!
Can I also delete folders of Originals (knowing the risk that changes are then permanent)? Can I do this anywhere other than at iPhoto library folder level, which appears to be a bad way to stuff?
There's a history to all this of course, which I'll go into if there's anyone who thinks they may be able to explain why it's happened. Otherwise fixing it would at least be a good first step as I've no idea if it's likely to be causing other problems in the software performance!
    Thanks, ever hopeful!

Oh sorry, that is a screenshot for iPhoto 6. For iPhoto 5 the Data folders are in each date folder.
For you then, just delete the three files, then do your rebuild.
If the thumbnails and photos are still not correct after the rebuild you can create a new library and import the photos from the old. When you do this you are just importing the photo files and new thumbnails will be created.
    Here are the directions:
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "import" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
