Hardware Test not working

So I'm attempting to do a Hardware test because my audio input port doesn't seem to be working. So I held down "D" and restarted. The computer just booted up like normal to the login screen even though I continued holding "D" until the apple logo appeared. I then inserted the application Install Disc and repeated those steps and it still went to the login screen. What am I doing wrong?
I don't remember setting up a firmware password so that shouldn't be the issue.

If you have erased & reformatted your iMac's hard drive at any point, then the hidden partition containing AHT has been removed & you cannot start up from it. But you should still be able to start up from the partition containing it on your original system DVD. However, since AHT is system-specific, you must make sure you use the grey system disc that came with your iMac, & that if you have more than one disc in the set that you use the one marked with the instructions for starting up into AHT. (AHT is on only one disc in the set.)
Assuming your iMac is the 21.5" Mid 2010 model (identified as "iMac11,2" in System Profiler), then your system disc should have AHT version 3A195 on it & this should be printed somewhere on the face of the DVD. No other version of AHT will work with this model.
If you have the right disc & it still isn't working, it is possible that your timing for pressing the "D" key is a little off. Try restarting the iMac without the key pressed & then press it just after you hear the startup chime. Continue holding it down until the iMac starts up, hopefully into AHT.

  • Macbook dies after 2008-005 security update: even hardware test not working

My Macbook no longer boots after installing security update 2008-005. Behaves as if HD is dead, AND as if boots from SuperDrive are broken too.
    Sequence of events:
    1. 10.5.4, Software Update notifies me of update.
    2. I permit it. Immediately requires a reboot.
    3. Go away for several hours.
    4. Upon return, I notice the Leopard outer-space background.
    5. Spinning beachball when I move the mouse.
    6. Go away for several minutes.
    7. Return. No change. Power down computer.
OK ... by now, you may be saying that it might still have been updating and I shouldn't have interrupted it.
But since then, the machine behaves not only like the disk is dead, but I can't even get a hardware test to run from DVD.
    So, to continue.
    8. Start machine again. Apple boot sound. Nothing on screen.
    9. After a while, flashing "folder" icon with question mark.
Since then I've attempted to boot in safe mode, verbose mode, FireWire target disk mode (against a 10.4.x box), boot from original install disk, boot into hardware test mode from original install disk. None of these things worked. I've reset the PRAM.
The only diagnostic activity of all of these that has produced any different feedback is the PRAM reset (which sounded the Apple boot sound a second time). Everything else does not work. If the HD was dead, I could understand that none of the attempts to boot into FireWire target disk mode, or to boot from DVD and then expect to see the HD mount in some way, would work. But since it doesn't even boot the hardware test from the DVD, I'm really baffled. Any ideas? Thanks.

Well, my solution was to buy DiskWarrior and copy what I could (which was a lot, thankfully) to a FireWire external disk, then reinstall. DiskWarrior reports S.M.A.R.T. status OK, so I've gone with a fresh partition in Disk Utility and successfully installed 10.4 from the original DVDs.
Have also run Apple Hardware Test and had no problems, so I've decided to trust the drive in the short term.
Unfortunately, now, 10.5 upgrade disks won't finish and guess what ... a partial install of 10.5 breaks the 10.4! So, the machine has a recognizable startup disk but justs sits in a loop rebooting itself, presumably as it hits some inter-10.4/10.5 state and gives up.
Next up I tried to restore my 10.5 from a wired ethernet connection to my Time Capsule. Having never once been able to browse my backups in Time Machine under 10.5, I was somewhat surprised to find that the 10.5 Installer was happy to let me try a restore from the Time Capsule. It crunched away until it was happy that I had enough space on my new partition, and then did what seemed a pretty instantaneous restore. The Macbook reboots and ... can't see the startup disk.
Maybe my disk really is on the way out.

How can apple send out an os update that renders an important function of the software/hardware to not work? They knowingly have sent out this new os update for iPad which makes airplay nonfunctining! I need this for my business!  I could understand if they didn't know, but it is all over the Internet! When I went in to have it revert back to os6 (which worked fine!) I was actually asked if I had done any research before I installed the upgrade! As if this is the consumer's fault for being dumb enough to fall for the upgrade!

That is not what I have discovered, nor what others have discovered, nor what I was told when I went the Genius Bar.  I cannot remotely mirror to my MacBook Pro and it only started the day after I installed the upgrade.  We tested it with an iPad that had not been upgraded, no problem.

  • Can Apple Hardware Test disk work when a hard drive has no OS installed yet

I removed a bad original hard drive from a PowerBook G4 12" aluminum notebook. It made clicking sounds as it ran, and would not boot. I replaced it with a 320GB Western Digital HD. I also upgraded the original 512KB memory with 1GB.
Before removing the bad hard drive, I was able to boot just beyond the language selection dialog from a full installation CD (Mac OS X v10.2) while holding the "C" key during power on, but could not install it, of course, on the bad hard drive.
Now with new hard drive replacement in the PowerBook (formatted via fire wire from a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard) and the upgraded memory, I ran a Disk Utility check via fire wire and found the new hard drive in the PowerBook to be in good working order and ready for an OS installation. However I can no longer boot the PowerBook G4 with the full installation CD in the customary manner, getting instead the flashing question mark over the finder folder icon.
I decided to see if there might be some other problem by using a PowerBook G4 Apple Hardware Test disk. Upon booting from the test disk, I get a message that declares the disk will not work with the PowerBook G4 machine.
    What's up?

There's more to my original question than whats on the face of it. Please read more about this below. However, I will still wish to know if an AHT, say an original one if that's important, will do it's thing when no OS is installed.
Pretty sure that I'm NOT using either disk or sets of disks that came with this G4 PB. Included among what I do have are 6 grey disks:
    __PB G4 Software Restore 1
    __PB G4 Software Restore 2
    __PB G4 Software Restore 3
    __PB G4 Mac OS 9 Install v9.2.2
    __PB G4 Mac OS X Install v10.1.4
    __PB G4 Applications
And 2 Jaguar full install DVDs:
    __Mac OS X v10.2 Install Disc 1
    __Mac OS X v10.2 Install Disc 2
I was hoping to be able to find something useful among these disks - if not in a strait forward manner, them by some manner of hacking.
I know how to use my MacBook Pro create a disk image that will house any number of these DVDs. My thought is to create something that can be cloned to the PB G4 via fire wire. I just need to be sure how to daisy chain multiple DVDs in terminal mode, if more than one DVD is required in the cloning process.
I have placed an order for Leopard 10.5 - full installation DVD direct from Apple.
Once received, I will have 14 days to return it unopened. So, I want to be sure this PB G4 is operable before I break the seal on the Leopard package.
Therefore it's not so important that I clone everything from the original installation - just enough to see that the PB G4 boots and runs in Finder. If I can achieve that much, I will advance with Leopard 10.5 when it arrives.
    My *PROCESSOR SPEED* is 1.33GHz
    Other original specs:
    L2 Cache 512 KB
    Memory 512 MB
    Bus Speed 167 MHz
    Boot ROMV 4.8.3f1
    Memory Slot 256 MB DDR-SDRAM

Just found that the problem is probably something with RAM configuration (motherboard problem).
I have 4GB RAM, with Memory Hole disabled in bios it works ok, but then only shows ~2.2GB. I only get 2GB in Win XP Pro SP2 with Memory Hole enabled (x64 is ok, 4GB). I think this option is not working properly.

  • Can't get Apple Hardware Test to work

So I'm trying to run the Apple Hardware Test. I start the computer up and hold "D". It boots into OS X like a normal startup. So, I plug in the Ethernet and hold option-D to do the AHT from the Internet. It tells me "Apple Hardware Test does not support this machine".
So, I try to install the "iMac EFI Update 1.8" from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1493 (which is for my iMac model, which is a iMac (Mid 2010)), but it says "This software is not supported on your system." I also tried the later version, v1.9, from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1498 but it isn't for my iMac and so I get the same error.
So now I'm stuck. What should I do now?

Thanks that was it. It says AHT on the disk itself. I successfully ran it, and it found no problems ("No trouble found.") I ran the basic test only because I have 16 GB RAM, and so I imagine it would take a long time to run the extended—probably at least two hours? And I don't know what more that would find that the basic wouldn't?

  • Automated Composite build/test not work with non-default version

    Hello,
I have a BPEL composite and I am trying to setup maven and soapUI to build, deploy, test, and upon successful test, set it as the default version. The difficulty I am having is testing the composite before it becomes the default version. I am able to hit the endpoint using the full URL with the randomly generated ID in it using soapUI (see below), but not by using the shortened URL.
    Full URL: http://soabpm-vm:8001/soa-infra/services/default/Project1!0.0.12-SNAPSHOT*soa_13954572-b91f-480d-88d2-037e92083d72/bpelprocess1_client_ep
    Shortened URL: http://soabpm-vm:8001/soa-infra/services/default/Project1!0.0.12-SNAPSHOT/bpelprocess1_client_ep
I tried hitting the shortened URL outside of the maven build, just using soapUI, and the response is empty. However, if I then mark this new version as default (through EM), and then mark a previous version as default (let's say 0.0.11), then the shortened URL for 0.0.12 can be successfully hit.
It seems to me then that before the shortened URL above can be used, that specific version must have been set as the default version at some point. This would make an automated maven/soapUI test of new version (but not default) quite difficult, as it would have to somehow retrieve the full URL.
Is this a bug or can it be fixed with a config setting change?
Here are the steps in the process, maven build (using the Oracle provided ant sca files):
    1. Compile
    2. Package
    3. Deploy, not as default
    4. Test the new version (using soapUI plugin)
    5. If successful tests, mark new version as default
The problem is with step 4, can't determine what the full URL is and the shortened URL does not work.
    Thanks
    Ben

I found a similar issue in Oracle's support site, Patch 13774839 (based on bug 13569816). I will try that out and post the results here.

  • Cs4 - hardware rendering not working

The checkbox is LOCKED and set to software render by default!
I have updated to Bridge CS4 and now the slideshow and dinamic zoom are not working smoothly as on CS3.
How can I set the checkbox to Hardware?
    Thanks,
    Z
Graphic Card = Intel GMA 500 (latest drivers)
Bridge cs3 accepts render by hardware and it works smoothly!

Ok, here is some detail info of the issue:
    On my netbook: CPU=1.6ghz, RAM=2Gb, VGA=Intel500, SSD@60mb/s
    - Bridge cs3 = Hardware Render = impressive response time. [way beyond 30fps]
    - Bridge cs3 = Software Render  = <10fps
    - Bridge cs4 = Hardware Render = not available
    - Bridge cs4 = Software Render  = 2 or maybe 3fps (!!!) Its a huge diference!
Come on Adobe, a loot of computers are/will be shipping this graphic card!
Just release a patch for us. Or think about it on cs5.

    Hi Mike,
I posted this on my site about client link. Take a gander... Your clients need to be CCX v4 or newer

  • My Iphone4s hardware is not working!!

I just bought an Iphone4s 2 months ago and its not working anymore. I cannot restore it (error 2001) nor turn it on. What should I do??? People told me that my iPhone had some problems with its hard ware. Is the warranty gonna cover this ??

Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on): If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Failover Cluster testing - not working

    Hello
We are trying to perform failover testing on OC4J clusters. We have two nodes clustered. On each node we have installed SOA suite - four OC4J instances (home, oc4J_soa, oc4j_wsm, and oc4j_esbdt).
This is how we are performing the test:
We have deployed servlet on both oc4j_soa with different application names but with same context-root. We have observed following behavior.
    1) In mod_oc4j.conf file , we have "Oc4jSelectMethod roundrobin:local".
So when we hit http://<loadbalancer>/<context-root-for-servlet> it works fine in roundrobin fashion. We have set the HTML page title as node name in servlets.
And so we see Node 1 title one time and Node 2 title the other time.
    2) Now if I undeploy the servlet from Node 1 and hit http://<loadbalancer>/<context-root-for-servlet> It doen't work one time (gives HTTP 500 error) and it works the other time.
ie. it is still sending one request to Node 1 and other request to Node 2.
well, it should not do this right ? if my application is down/not available on Node 1 , all request should go to Node 2.
    3) Also what i have observed is , when we hit the Nodes' http url directly instead of going through the loadbalancer it crisscross the requests.
ie. http://NODE 1/<context-root-for-servlet> - this one always goes to Node 2
    and http://NODE 2/<context-root-for-servlet> - always goes to Node 1
    This is something weird.
Anybody has any idea , please ? I am not sure why are we getting unexpected behavior mentioned 2) and 3 )
Please let me know if you need anything about config details.
    Thanks
    /Mishit

    2) I hope there is a Hardware LBR front ending this architecture ... If yes then HW LBR have intelligent death detection mechanisms where in if Node 1 crashes it stops serving requests to the failed node until it is back online .... so this setting is more at the LBR then at mod_oc4j.conf
    3) If load balancing is configured correctly, I dont think u shud be getting this issue..
To test load balancing you can do as below:
    - Ensure Virtual host configuration is done in Apache of both nodes
    - Ensure Virtual host entry is added to /etc/hosts
    Like on Node 1 /etc/hosts
    <Node 2 IP> <Virtual hostname>
    Similarly on Node 2 /etc/hosts
    <Node 1 IP> < Virtual hostname>
    - Give Virtual URL to your LBR guy and he will do the settings in LBR
    - Bring down node 1 keeping node 2 alive & check below:
    http://<virtualURL>/contextroot
    http://<node2>/contextroot
    - Similarly bring down node 2 keeping node 1 alive & check below:
    http://<virtualURL>/contextroot
    http://<node1>/contextroot

  • Mavericks / Canon Canoscan 8800F:  Hardware Buttons not working.

I've just upgraded to Mavericks.  I've also updated the driver (to 13.9.2a) and installed the latest MP Navigator 1.0 (1.0.7).  Is there something else I need to do?
I'm having two problems since the upgrade:
    - The hardware buttons on the scanner cover have stopped working
    - I'm unable to add the scanner in the System Preferences: Printers and Scanners dialog, because it's not listed as one of the available devices.
    However:
    - MP Navigator as well as TWAIN - compatible applications (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Pro) are working properly: they are able to see and use the 8800F (even though it's not listed as an available scanner in System Preferences)
Further explanation: The row of hardware buttons on the scanner's cover have stopped working since the upgrade to Mavericks. For example
    - The "Copy" button is supposed to launch MP Navigator, scan the document on the glass and print the document.
    - "Email" is supposed to scan the document, open a new message in "Mail" and insert the document as an attachment
    - There are also several "PDF" buttons that are supposed to scan to a PDF document and do various things with it..
These buttons worked in previous MacOS versions, but none of them do anything since I've installed Mavericks.
Also, in the System Preferences: Printers and Scanners window: I thought I'd try deleting and re-adding the 8800F there to see if that might clear up the buttons problem. I deleted it, but am unable to add it back because it is not listed as one of the available devices.  So then I checked the "System Report" under "About this Mac," and found that Canoscan is listed there as one of the USB devices.

Responding to my own post: I've learned that the problem is in the ICA driver for this device, and we're waiting for an update to that to resolve this problem.

  • LMS 4.0 and EoS/EoL Hardware report not working..

    Hi guys,
our LMS server has proxy access to the internet but running a EoS/EoL hardware report results in:-
No data available in the report. The problem could be any one of the following:
    1. No EoS/EoL hardware data available in the LMS database for the selected device(s).
    2. PSIRT/EOX system job might not have run, or might have failed.
    3. You might have entered the wrong cisco.com credentials.
I tried doing it manually by downloading the psirt_eox_offline.txt to the relevant directory and changing the EoS/ EoL configuration to 'local server' on our LMS server but I still get the above message.
I know for a fact we are running devices that have recently been announced by cisco as going EoL and or EoS eg 3750 switches and 2800 series routers so I was expecting to see something in the report.
How can I get this working successfully?
    Thanks in advance
    Trevor

    Problem is now fixed.
I disabled 'use proxy server' and its now working.
