Hello all,
I need to replace the hd in my iMac and was thinking of replacing it with a solid state drive. I found a 2.5 inch hard drive but before I purchase the drive I was wondering if I am going to need a different mounting plate as well? The drive I had in mind is OCZ Agility 4 AGT4-25SAT3-512G 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD).
Thank you for nay help.Looks like an old unanswered question, you need a cheap and simple U-like metal stand, which has the contour of a 3.5 inch HDD, upon which you fix the SSD or any 2.5 ' HDD. This is not absolutely necessary, but you need to fix is somehow there, otherwise you need an adhesive strip or else.

I need to use an ipad wireless hard drive as a storage device. I want the student to do work on the iPad , then save it securely on the hard drive, then be able to go back and get the file and continue working on it. Can this be done?
We use google apps for education with the google drive ipad app
The google drive editor is basic. But it meets our needs. Students go to the app called "google drive". They logon and start a document on an iPad and then edit again using almost any device anywhere(home or school): ipad, windows7, mac, android.
We setup each student account with folders for each teacher. Students can move documents into their teacher folder, and then the teacher can edit in real time with the studnet. It's like a multi player editor.
There's no quick fix to allow students using ipads to save work, then revise alone or with the help of a teacher.
You could also use skydrive, dropbox, or filebrowser, but the ability of ipad apps to edit and save revisions is spotty. It depends if that app developer has added support. You can see your MS Word doc files with those tools, but I don't know if you can edit the DOCX file, then save back to DOCX files. -
Has anyone ever installed a G4 logic board into a G3 iBook?
I was just wondering if it was at all possible to install a G4 logic board in a G3 iBook. To be specific, I have an iBook G3 900MHz with a faulty logic board. I could have it replaced under the Apple Logic Board Replacement Program, but I'd hate to replace a bad part with a part that will most likely go bad in the future. Also, trying to find an affordable (in the $100 range) replacement logic board on eBay or anywhere else is proving impossible.
So, could I buy a 1GHz or similar G4 logic board and swap it into the G3 iBook? I'm sure someone out there has tried something like this, right?
I'm intrigued by the possability.I doubt it. They don't even take the same kind of RAM.
What makes you think a replacement "will most likely go bad in the future"? Some have had to go back more than once; many haven't. (And many have not gone in at all.) There are many iBook users out there, happily iBooking away without any knowledge of the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program because they've never had a problem.
Get it replaced, free, NOW, and worry about the future when it gets here.

X200 SSD (Solid State Drive) with clean-install of Vista or XP?

I apologize for starting a new thread on a new forum; however, I am running out of research time.
I am about to buy a X200 with the 64GB SSD (Solid State Drive) (and it needs to be bought by tomorrow Can I ask couple questions? :
1) I am legally using this for business purposes with an MSDN license, so I can and will install any clean OS immediately. With the option to install any Windows OS; which will work best [or at all] with the SSD? (I have read conflicting articles, but most are outdated due to SSD's being so new.)
2) With only the SSD and without a MediaBase, I read several guides such as This Thread on this Forum on how "fun" a clean install can be...are there any extra difficulties with the SSD?
I am a software engineer and would normally piece this together my research; however, I am running out of time before I have to decide if the SSD is a viable and installable option at this time (and if I should buy it!)

I'd like to know why AHCI mode is being suggested to use for SSD's? Please tell me why. I just don't understand. I think using Raid 0 Array would be the better choice. How does AHCI mode vary compaired to Raid 0 ? Is AHCI a better Mode? Does it give better performance then Raid 0?
I see alot of you are having problems setting up SSD's. I have read the first thing you need to do is make sure the firmware on any SSD you use should be updated.
I also see a lot of people here talking about the need to install Raid drivers. This is true with all other OS's, but I have found that after a fresh format, even on a new HD, I just installed Win 7 64 bit ultimate I went right into device manager to see what drivers are needed, & to my surprise all the drivers were already installed, including Raid driver & controller. I set up my Raid 0 Array at the F10 prompt, rebooted with OS disk with master drive after setting up boot sequence, & continued from there no problem with 2 150GB Raptor HD's in Raid 0.
I have gone as far as to use a Western Digital HD CD utility disc that has a write zero utility & used it to fast write zero's to the first 63 tracks & sectors including track 0 sector 0 where the MBR is written, & I've reformatted & reinstalled Win 7 from that point, & all the drivers still get auto installed. You can go right into device manager & see for your self. The only driver I ever need my be a sound driver update & Graphics driver. I'm not forgetting that the drivers that are auto installed are generic & may need updating, but what I'm saying is, I haven't seen any yellow question marks or exclamation points in device manager like you do with other OS's before Win 7. -
I get the following error message after installing the latest version of itunes via auto update: "the itunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54). Has anyone ever seen this message and anyone have a suggestion what to do?

Our CEO has an iPhone and an iPad. Everytime he is at the Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI) he is unable to send or recieve email over 4G or wifi. Everything else seems to work just fine over wifi or 4G LTE. Has anyone ever seen anything similar? is this malware?
Both devices are on Verizons 4G LTE network. Both devices do have some of the same APPS installed. Can this be a case of him connecting to a rogue wifi network of a hacker that may have installed malicious code on his devices when he connected? That would explain why only his devices have the same exact issue only at BWI airport.Something similar I've experienced. I was once having to use a AT&T hotspot and the iPad simply refused to access my mail via the mail app. But if I used safari I could get it. So the internet was working, but my supposition is that something with the hotspot's firewall messes with mail exchange.
next time your boss is at BWI, do you guys have a web interface? (for example if I wanted to access my work mail I could get them to set it up via the mail app and exchange, or I could go to a certain web address and access my mail that way via safari)
He could try using safari and the web interface if you have it.
If it's something in the hotspot's firewall I doubt it's anything that can be changed. -
has anyone ever had this problem and know how to fix it ?? I upload songs on to my ipod and they appear on my ipod in itunes but after i disconnect (the correct way) the songs do not appear on my ipod. If i plug the ipod back into my computer it still shows them as being on my ipod through itunes but not when i disconnect please please please help!! thankyou! (Also the songs i'm trying to upload are cd's that i have brought)

We just launched a vaccation tracking app with a coldfusion
front end and an access 97 backend (dont ask). The app was tested
for over a month and passed all tests. However we never tested for
volume, or amount of users hitting the app. On the backend, we have
an access table linked to a text file. Again, this tested out
perfectly over the past month. This morning after release to the
entire company of about 2,000 people, users began reporting this
error:
The text file specification 'EmployeeList Link
Specification6' does not exist. You cannot import, export, or link
using the specification.
Some users logged in to the app successfully and some
recieved this error. For those that recieved the error, we had them
back out and re-login and then the app worked just fine.

The right way would be to use a "real" database server.
But you can test if db-caching can improve the issue.
With each <cfquery> you can set a cachedwithin
parameter. Using that should allow you to query the Access db once,
and then have CF keep the query results in memory (for the DB as
well as the text-file).
You could query the complete database with no filtering this
way, and then filter the data using QueryofQuery to output only
records for specific users/groups/regions.
You also need to make sure the settings in CF admin are
configured right for this.
The more often the database content is updated, the slower
this solution will get though.

ps. for the cachedwithin parameter in the query set a
timeframe of forever, so the recordset never gets updated, and then
actually execute a new query to update the recordset at the end of
your "save a vacation" or "updated a vacation" functions. This way
the app would only read the db when a real change to the records
occurred.
But like I said with 2000 users, even that may not be enough
to get the app performing. -

Has anyone ever emulated Mac OS X and used Logic on their x86 Microsoft Windows systems? I was thinking about doing this to use some synths and stuff with some Windows designed software. I'm not sure if it is possible to use both operating systems at the same time with VMWare Workstation operating system emulator. Help me out guys. Has anyone ever done it? Can it be done?
VMWare Workstation will not run the client version of Mac OS X in emulation, and likely won't run Mac OS X Server either.

I have configured a table with identity, so the indexed will be incremented automatically.
I am trying to get the ID of the last Insert command that I am using.
I am trying to SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() but with no success.
I read about trying to so it with a procedure or transaction, but I just could not succeed myself.
Has anyone ever succeeded to use the scope_identity() from the LabVIEW DB toolkit ?
If yes, can you please elaborate more or even share the code ?

I do my INSERT query (with a semicolon at the end) and in the same query string do a "SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() as inserted_id;" - essentially what you're doing here is running two queries in one - one to insert your data and the second to retrieve the ID. From what I remember of when I did this (last year?), I think scope_identity() is valid for the same connection so as you're doing both queries in the same connection it should always be valid.
I then do this to get the ID (pardon the crappy VI snippet):
Essentially I execute the query and the result is a 2D array that contains one row/column which is your last inserted ID.
