Currently have access to a friends computer with CS3 installed.I am going to buy a desktop with Windows 8 and I also have a laptop with Windows 7. What version of Photoshop is currently available that will work on both the desktop and the laptop? Can I install the same copy of Photoshop on the both machines simultaneously?

You can either buy a CS6 perpetual license, or Creative Cloud subscription.  Both will run on the two computers you mention.  You are allowed two installation with either version, but they must be for the same user. There is a cheap as chips Photography deal that gives you Photoshop and Lightroom for just $10/month, and feature gap is ever widening between CS6 and CC

I have an older Power Mac G5 Quad, and my video card just went out. I am trying to find a video card that will work for my Power Mac. I have duel screens but I can't seem to find the appropriate video card. The serial number on my computer is: RM620603R6W. Apple won't help me because the computer is older than suggested. Please give me the exact video card that will work best for my computer.

Hi Mike, make sure the card has Mac ROM, or is a PC card with Mac ROMs flashed to it...
G5 PCIe options are listed here:

  • Need a RAID that will work on both new and old Mac Pro

Desperately need to expand my RAID storage, and also not quite ready to buy the new Mac Pro.   Are there any high quality 6TB+ RAID enclosures that will work on both the new and older non-firebolt Mac Pros?  I already have a sh*t load of 2TB 3.5 drives, so I only need an enclosure.
Even when i get the new macpro, I will use the old mac pro as a second station, so i need the RAID to work on both.

Why not go for a eSATA Raid and a cheap eSATA card for old Mac Pro  and get either a Thunderbolt to eSATA or USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter for your new Mac Pro? Thunderbolt to eSATA is faster, of course.
I have a MacPower/Inxtron Hydra 4 x 2 TB eSata for example. I have a eSATA card in my Mac Pro and when I need to use it on my Retina Macbook Pro I use a USB 3.0 to eSATA adapter. Gives me about 240 MBytes/s with Raid 5.
On the eSATAcard it's just a little bit more, like 250/260 MBytes/s.

  • HT1695 HI, I am planning to use my Ipad in both Canada and Mexico.  Is there a cellualr network that will work for both?

WAht is the best combo of cellular providers??

What you're going to need is an application that will let you "rip" your pictures from the iPad back to your Mac. These are like reverse iTunes applications. Usually, these third party utilities are used to rip music from iPods back to your computer but some will also let you pull the photos out. You might do a search in the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch forums and see if anyone has recently recommended a utility like that. You should know that the pictures on your iPad are not the orginal full-resolution copies. But getting smaller versions back may be better than nothing. Sounds like it's time to invest in an external hard drive so you can enable Time Machine...

  • What is the latest version that will work on my "vintage" Powerbook G4 Mac Laptop running the 10.5.8 operating system and where is that download on the Firefox undating site?

The latest version of Firefox is not compatible with my Laptop, and I could not find which of the latest versions I can use.
I was trying to upload the latest version and received an incompatibility message.

A group of Mac users have created their own Community Build from the "Firefox 4+" versions.

  • Trying to format a new USB flash drive so it will work on both a Mac and PC

I have a brand new Sandisk USB flash drive that I am trying to copy movie files onto from my Mac's hard drive.  For some reason I can copy one of the movie files but not the other, even though they are both Quicktime (.mov) files.  In doing some research, it seems the one file will not copy/paste likely because it is over 4 GB in size and the FAT32 filing system on the USB drive prevents files in excess of this size to be copied and pasted.
My question to anyone who can help me is:  How can I get files over 4 GB onto and off of this USB drive AND be able to use it for both Mac and PC computers?
    Thanks for any advice.

If I format the USB stick on my Mac as exFAT, will my client who´s most likely using a PC be able to screen it tomorrow morning...??
exFAT would only be an issue if they were running a version of Windows older than XP. If it is XP, they would need to install the free exFAT update before being able to access the drive.

Most storage experts agree on the Hitachi 2.5"
Hitachi is the winner in hard drive reliability survey:
Hitachi manufacturers the safest and most reliable hard drives, according to the Storelab study. Of the hundreds of Hitachi hard drives received, not a single one had failed due to manufacturing or design errors. Adding the highest average lifespans and the best relationship between failures and market share, Hitachi can be regarded as the winner.

  • Is there a teleconverter available that will mount to a Canon EF S lens?

I have a new Rebel T5i with EF S lenses but I Alamo have a Kenko 2X teleconverter. As I understand the Kenko will not mount to the EF S lens. Are there teleconverters available that will mount to EF S lenses?

The "S" in EF-S stands for "Short backfocus".  The rear-most element on an EF-S lens sits farther back than it does on an EF lens... and typically proturdes just slightly beyond the lens mounting flange.  The lens is designed to mount on something with a hollow cavity to accomodate the short backfocus.  Teleconverters aren't unlikely to provide enough space.
But that's just the "tip of the iceberg".
When you use a teleconverter, you have to multiply both the focal length AND the focal ratio by the teleconverter factor.  It's the focal ratio that can be a problem.  I'll use an example to illustrate why.
Suppose you have a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and, hypothetically, you found a 2x teleconverter for it.  This would convert the lens into a 36-270mm (that part makes sense) lens with an f/7-11 focal ratio range.  Notice how I had to multiple the focal ratios?
The "problem" with this, is that camera generally cannot auto-focus at high focal ratios.   The Canon 1D X and 5D III can both auto-focus at f/8... but that's it.  No other Canon camera can do this (and it's the same for Nikons... most cannot).  They're designed to auto-focus up to f/5.6 and there are 3rd party lenses where f/6.3 might be the best you can do... and AF works on them -- but you're really pressing the limits at that point.    This means you might get the lens to focus at f/7... but that's only available when you're zoomed all the way "out" to the 36mm end.  As soon as you zoom IN (and the whole point of the teleconverter is to let you zoom in more becuase the lens would have provided 36mm natively without using the 2x teleconverter) you're jumping up beyond f/8 where there's absolutely no way the AF system is going to work.
The focal ratio limits for the AF system aren't arbitrary.  If I hand you a 35mm film camera with manual focus and a split prism focusing aid in the viewfinder, but dial the focal ratio down to f/8 and have you try to focus with it, what you'll discover is that you can get one half of the split prism "moon" to show the image but the other half will be black.  Barely move your eyeball and they'll reverse... the other half is visible but the first half is now black.  It's near impossible to get both halves visible at the same time to allow focus because of the way the prisms work (even manually).
Teleconverters work best on lenses that have low focal ratios to begin with... e.g. f/2.8 lenses when using a 2x teleconverter (which turns it into an f/5.6 lens) or f/4 lenses if using a 1.4x teleconvert (which also turns it into an f/5.6 lens).
But even after all of that... the teleconverter will noticeably degrade your optical quality.  It's never as good as if you didn't have to use a teleconverter.
I have a Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM lens... that was a pretty expensive piece of glass (I think it was around $4k).  If I put a 2x teleconverter on it (and I can -- it works)... I get optical quality out of it that looks like I bought a $200 lens.
Part of the reason this happens is teleconverters are a bit generic.  They aren't tuned for one specific lens.  Canon makes an $11k lens with a built-in 1.4x teleconverter and it's remarkable.  But that built-in TC was optimized and tuned for that one lens only.

  • MSI give us a new bios that will work

Why dont you release a new bios the latest one is dated 15/8 thats 2 MONTH now. Corecenter make other program lockup, max Vcore is 1.5volt no matter what I set it in bios and corecenter (And I'm not the only one that have this problem), Where is the Agp/pci lock that you promised to release in 2 weeks for 2 weeks ago? Lucky me that I bought an k8v also because this bord aint gono OC anything with a Vcore that stuck on 1.5 volt.

I think asking for a new BIOS that will "work" is a misleading.. The one the board ships with is working perfectly except for those who overclock. Challange MSI to give you a real OCers beta BIOS this thread here might give some people the impression that the boards don't work at all when they work just great.

  • My old computer (a Sony) with my iTunes crashed. I have a new MAC and want to make sure I can keep all of my music (mostly from old CD's that have been lost). I bought iTunes match hoping that would work but it isn't using the data on my phone. HELP!

My old computer (a Sony) with my iTunes crashed. I have a new MAC and want to make sure I can keep all of my music (mostly from old CD's that have been lost). I bought iTunes match hoping that would work but it isn't using the data on my phone. HELP!

Since you have purchased a new Mac (which, BTW, is not typed in all capitals) why not buy a Time Capsule <http://www.apple.com/airport-time-capsule/> which is designed specifically to work with OS X and Time Machine?
You don't say what part of your Sony "crashed." If it was not the HDD it is possible to take the computer apart, put the HDD in an external case, then recover the data off of it (including the music) simply drag-n-drop. If it was the HDD that "crashed" that makes it more difficult.
If you are able to recover the music from the Sony you can then add it to the iTunes library on the Mac and iTunes Match will then scan, match and upload the tracks to be mirrored in the cloud.

  • I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there

I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there for older iPads with the 30pin charger but I can't find one for the lighning 8pin charger.

I don't know what you mean by "poor battery life". If your iPad is working properly you should get 9-10 hours of life.
