  • Just upgraded to Lion and can not use my QuarkXpress program.

Just upgraded to Lion and can not use my QuarkXpress program.

Your best bet is to check the version of QuarkXPress you have. Since Lion does not include Rosetta my guess is this may be why it is not working. Check out this site http://roaringapps.com/apps:table. This site has a list of apps that work and don't work under Mac OS X Lion.
If you are working in a production environment freelance or stuido that uses design apps like QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop you should always wait to upgrade your OS. We have a 3 to 6 month policy for upgrading computers and software.
I hope the website helps.  http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • I have just upgraded to Lion and I now find that my VPN network does not work properly.  It worked fine with Leopard.

I have just upgraded to Lion and now my VPN connection does not work properly.  It was working fine when I was using Leopard.  The VPN is My Private Network and we use it to link to BBC iPlayer when abroad.  It will actually connect to the VPN site and shows a UK IP address, but then when we try to load an iPlayer programme we get the message from the BBC that we are not in the country and, therefore, cannot access the site.  Any suggestions?

Have a look at System Preferences, Accessibility, VoiceOver.

  • Just upgraded to Lion and can no longer import any .mov files ("file not supported") to 3.1.3.  Also can no longer view any .mov or .mp4 files already in library.

Have been using Aperture 3.1.3 with no problems.  Importing from a Nikon D80 (RAW & JPEG), Casio (.MOV) and Flip (.mp4).  Could import and view all videos without issue prior to Lion upgrade.  After Lion installation, can no longer import .mov files (get "file not supported" error) or even view any .mov or .mp4 files currently in library (even though thumbnail is present).  Can watch the .mov files directly on my camera using Quicktime in Finder but can't even drag & drop that file into Aperture.  Anybody else having similar problems?

Still no resolution and Geniuses at store could not assist.  Unfortunately, it looks like not all the applications were ready to support the Lion operating system.  We could not import any .mov files, could no longer view any .mov files already in my Aperture library and could not email any .mov files.  Totally frustrated.  Use Aperture almost daily and can't lose the video functionality.  Was also running dog-slow.  Constantly looking at the spinning wheel.  Geniuses suggested that I wipe out hard drive and reinstall Snow Leopard.  Had full backup on external drive with Time Machine.
Not an easy process though...had to reinstall several times (at 5 hours each time) because I continued to have issues.  Finally figured out that I needed to delete every backup file from Time Machine on external drive from the date I installed Lion because some of the hidden files were still migrating back to Snow Leopard.
    I had to:
    1. Delete all time machine backup files from date/time of Lion installation forward
    2. Do "clean" installation of Snow Leopard (wiped hard drive using disk utility and booted with Snow Leopard disc)
    3. Chose option to reinstall from backup off Time Machine which eventually got me back to Snow Leopard desktop
    4. Deleted Aperture program and reinstalled (I had to install Aperture 2 and then install Aperture 3 upgrade.
    5. Reinstalled iLife apps
    5. Applied all Apple updates available (again this took a few hours because there were several updates from Snow Leopard's original release plus Aperture 3 and other application updates)
Still doing some tweaking on some of my other apps but got everything back to where I originally was.  Now plan to wait on a few version updates from Lion before reinstalling.
I am one of Apple's biggest fans, but was very disappointed in the fact that I lost functionality in one of their own pieces of software (which I use the most!)  by installing Lion.

  • I just upgraded to Lion and can't find my EXS24 sampler instruments

The instruments that came with Logic are still in their place, but can't find user sampler instruments.  It used to be (user / library / application support / logic / sampler instruments, but there is no "library" folder in the user folder anymore.  Any suggestions?

    Jericho...
The User/Library folder is now hidden in Lion. To get to the "user" Library folder you now have to access it from Finder>Go>Go To Folder.
Once there, type this: /users/(your administrator name here)/Library/
    Hope this helps...
I've been working in Lion just fine until tonight! I lost my EXS24II sampler Instruments too... but probably for another reason?  -- Andy

  • I just upgraded to Lion and I have not been able to successfully complete a restart. I go to apple menu, restart. The computer powers down no problem and starts but it does not open the desk top. It remains a grey screen with the spinning icon. Any help?

I have just upgraded to Lion 10.8.2. I have not been able to complete a restart. I go to the apple menu, click on restart. The computer powers down and restarts but never opens the desk top. The screen remain grey and a graphic just spins. I have left this happen for as much as 15 minutes without it openning the desk top. When I power down the computer with the power button and start again with the power button. It starts no problem.

    Hi Anythony ...
v10.8..2? Most reccent version of Lion is v10.7.4.
Use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.

  • I've just upgraded to Lion and finder no longer shows how much free disk space I have left

Hi I've just upgraded to Lion and when im now in finder i can no longer see how much free or used hard disk space i have. anyone know how to turn this back on?

    Hi Alan,
I think you are looking for this:
From the Finder, select View > Show Status Bar and like magic, your info is revealed like how it was with snow leopard at the bottom of the finder window.
If you have the finder window at the bottom of your screen then it might be below the screen, just move the window up. That happened for me when I revealed it.
    Hope this helps.

  • I just upgraded to Lion and want to go back to Snow Leopard ..I have time machine..is there a way?

I just upgraded to Lion and Quicken will not work and not sure if I want to go back to Snow Leopard.  I have a timemachine and would like to know if someone could help to either get quicken working or how I can get back to snow leopard?

Did you check the Quicken website before upgrading your Mac? It specifically says that Quicken will not work on Lion.
    http://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/install--register--and-convert/quicken-fo r-mac-compatibility-with-mac-osx-10-7-lion/GEN83208.html
Just reinstall Snow Leopard. Should work fine. You can downgrade to previous software as long as the Mac supports the earlier version. If it previously had Snow Leopard, then re-installing is fine.
However!!! If you have a newer computer that was "born with" Lion, you cannot downgrade, as the firmware will not be compatible.
    Good Luck!

  • I have just upgraded to Mavericks and have been using Time Machine on an external disk with Snow Leopard.  Can I continue to backup with Time Machine on the same external disk or do I need a new disk since the operating system has changed?

I have just upgraded to Mavericks and have been using Time Machine on an external disk with Snow Leopard.  Can I continue to backup with Time Machine on the same external disk or do I need a new disk since the operating system has changed?

    Hi there,
I found that Time Machine in Mavericks will sort it all out for you. You shouldn't need to buy another backup drive, unless you have insufficient space left and can't afford to delete whats on there. It should just work fine.

  • Just upgraded to Maverick and can't get my opening page to stay on GOOGLE. it keeps opening in SITES and then I have to click on GOOGLE.

I just upgraded to Mavericks and can't get my opening page to stay on GOOGLE. IT keeps opening in SITES and then I have to click on GOOGLE to begin searching. I would rather not hav to go through 2 steps to start everytime. I entered google's address in preferences but it ignores my preference.

You don't say which browser you are using so I will assume it's Safari. If so then open Safari - Preferences - General tab and look for where you set the home page, just set it to www.Google.com
If this fails for some reason then  open Safari and reset it (look in the Safari menu) and choose all options for the reset. The re-try setting the preference. Post back with your results.

  • I just upgraded to Lion and lost my entire address book. Ack. Fix?

I just upgraded to Lion and so far so good,  EXCEPT I lost my entire address book. EVERY contact  missing. I didn't back up my address book before the upgrade (see me slap head) altho did have my contacts on my iPhone, slightly out of date, but more current than my last Mac backup. So I followed the iPhone to iCloud to Mac contact synch steps and the contacts repopulated on my Mac but WITHOUT the mailing ADDRESSES. Now addresses are also gone from my iPhone.
Is it possible to revert to the  Snow Leopard address data file? And if so, how do I do this? Or is there a better fix?

I had the same problem and also didn't have a back-up of my SL Address Book archive. But a minute or so's mucking about I came up with this workaround:
    1) Quit Address Book and in the Finder, hold down Option, click on Go in the menubar and choose Library.
    2) Go to Application Support/Address Book.
    3) In that folder you should see a file called Migration XXXXX-XXX.abbu.tbz (that's a compressed TAR file). The "XXXs" will be a jumble of numbers which from what I can gather relate to the date when you upgraded to Lion. Open it using the free Unarchiver program available for download from the App Store.
    4) This will open up a folder also called Migration XXXX-XXX. Click the flippy triangle to the left and you'll see it contains the Contact Book archives that existed before you upgraded to Lion, including any images and most importantly the Metadata (the names, addresses etc).
    5) Move the Metadata folder from the Migration folder up into the main Library/Application Support/Address Book folder. You will get an alert saying the folder already exists: click Replace. I also replaced the existing AddressBook-v22.abcddb file from the Migration folder as well. I don't use images in Address Book so I didn't replace that: if you do, you probably do want to replace that folder too.
    6) Open Address Book and gasp in wonder to find all your contacts resurrected.
Since it's an Apple app that you've been playing around with, run Repair permissions to tidy things up.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have just installed Mountain Lion and received a message that "speech Synthesis Server.app could not be opened because it is damaged or incomplete", please advise me what to do now.

I have just installed Mountain Lion and received a message "speech synthesis server.app could not be opened because it is damaged or incomplete", please can you advise me what to do next? Thanks

Something went wrong with your upgrade.
Back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

Just upgraded to Lion, how can I use my microsoft office especially excel.  I'm getting messages that it's no longer supported.  This is a BIG problem.  Help, please.

Apple has made a serious error not advising people when the Lion upgrade occurs that their present software may/will not be compatible and advise the user of such before and allow a opt out.
All you can do (besides upgrading all your software) is backup your data off the machine (not to TimeMachine) and disconnect all drives.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and erase your makers hard drive on the far left, (that's the entire drive of everything)
Partition tab: Option: GUID, format OS X extended and click apply so you get a new GUID (replacing the Lion one or trouble occurs later)
Quit and install 10.6, then go through setup and use the same name as before, then update to 10.6.8
Then c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility to Repair the disk the 10.6.8 update messed up.
Then install all your programs again from fresh sources and lastly your user files in the same main user folders as before (music, pictures, documents etc.)
Done as described will get you back just like it was before as close as possible, make SURE to use the same username or else your iTunes and other files get all messed up. Password and drive name can be different though if you wish.
Note: if you've upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6, then you don't get the free iLife as it's not on the 10.6.3 white disks, only on the disks that came with your machine. So that will have to be purchased and reinstalled or use Pacifist to extract it from the 10.5 disks.
This handy site can advise you what software doesn't work with the Lion.
