Having difficulties with XML Files and Final Cut Pro

Hi help community!
I am having a problem transfering / viewing / importing XML files from a hard drive onto Final Cut Pro.
I have tried importing and it says:
please choose a translation document file
followed by
ERROR:
No translation templates matching the selected XML were found. Unable to import this file.
I have also tried to convert using 'log and transfer' but in this instance I can see the XML file but its shaded & I am unable to click on it or drag it into the viewing window.
Any suggestions will be hugely appreciated! Thanks

Where did this XML come from? FCP only recognizes XML in the format it works with. It most likely willn not work with FCP in its current form.

<<You may want to invest in a software converter (flip4mac, for example) that will ingest your avi files into FCP.>>
This may turn out to be an option, but it isn't that FCPro won't accept the avi files; it's just that it gave me this warning that I didn't understand. If, as a previous posting said, it's just telling me that this wasn't imported via Final Cut, then 'no big deal'. If it's telling me something else, that's yet to be discovered.
<<If your friend saves the files as DV NTSC, they will still give you that warning when you bring them into FCP. DV NTSC may mean DV stream, which will have to be demuxed (the audio & video are mixed together) and is not easily editable. However, QT pro can demux these files for you.>>
It'll be an interesting 'experiment', and I'll be sure and post the results.
Curiously enough, iMovie imports these same files without blinking, and seems to convert them on the fly as it were to .dv files, with no apparently loss of quality. These can then be imported into FCPro/Express.
<<About the only thing that doesn't give a warning are files captured using FCP ....>>
If that's all it's tell me, that I didn't capture these using FCP, then I guess I could say it's telling me something I already knew. <grin>
    Thanks for the input.

  • XDCAM EX files and FINAL CUT PRO

Has anyone figured out how to use / import XDCAM EX files (shot on Sony EX3) with Final Cut Pro 7.0.1 and OS X 10.6.2 Snow Leopard?
I can't get it to work and everything I read so far says Sony won't be releasing a transfer plugin or program that works in Snow Leopard till March 2010.
It's very frustrating since the files work flawlessly with the latest version of Avid Media Composer (I downloaded the trial version) but I don't want to buy Avid.

When I use L&T, I can see the files just fine, but when I select one, and/or select import to FCP I get the multi-color wheel of death, it stalls out and you can only force quit from there.
I've seen others on the net with the same problem so I don't think its anything unique to me.
I'm using an EX3 so perhaps the files are different than those from your EX1.

  • Urgent! Help, how to deal with m2ts file in Final Cut Pro or Compressor...

    Dear All:
Please help me solve this urgent issue, I've got source that came with the mpeg-2 Transport Stream (48min content @ 3.42GB size) format , but both my Final Cut 6.0.6 and Compressor 3.0.5 can not open this type of file, is there any way that I can transcode this m2-ts file into a Final Cut Pro and Compressor readable format with the highest quality possible? And how to do it?
    Thanks in advance.

hey, Thanks David, actually, I used MPEG Streamclip prior to post this massage, the problem is that my
MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2 can't correctly open this m2ts file (it says it can not read the file size...) and I also tried using VLC to transcode it, but with no luck, I can not find the right video and audio format to come out with QT playalbe file. Let me try ClipWarp to see if it works.

  • .avi files and Final Cut Pro/Express

A friend of mine, a PC users, has a Cinemate film to video converter <http://www.moviestuff.tv/c_15.html>, and has digitized some footage for me. He saved it using three different systems: Scenalyzer, Vegas and Pinnacle. Each outputs a .avi file, which he put an a portable USB drive.
The files import into Final Cut (Express), but with this 'warning':
'The following media files are not optimized for Final Cut Express HD.
It is highly recommend that you recapture the media to create new copies of the files to improve their performance for multi-stream playback.'
They seem to playback, and the images 'appear' bring and sharp, so I don't really know what the warning means.
He does have the choice, when he captures, to save the files not as .avi -- his systems default -- but as NTSC DV files.
Would that be the preferred option? Or, put another way, what would be the best format for import into Final Cut Pro or Express?
    Thanks,
    Hal

  • Can I partition a Firewire 800 drive to work with Time Machine and Final Cut Pro?

Hey, I was reading that having Final Cut Projects and Events on the same external Hard Drive as a time machine backup doesn't work well together. So I was wondering if I partition a 2 TB External Hard Drive and use 1 partition for Time Machine and the other for Final Cut Pro, would it work like it should? I had thought so because it would recognize it as 2 different drives but I wasn't sure. Thank You for your time!

aside, if it is supported or not:
A backup is a crucial element in your set-up - is it wise to 'stress it' as a working drive for video-editing ...... ?
    or, vice versa:
The moment, Time Machine launches, your working drive drops its performance by half or even more.
Plus, depending on your settings, the drive is forced to copy tons of data from partition I to partition II ... due to, a partition is no 'real'/physical drive, this stresses a drive extremely .....
drives are sooo cheap. and drive-space should never be an 'issue' while movie-making ..

  • Problems with MBPr 15 and final cut pro.

I have had my Macbook Pro 15in retina for about 5 months and it seems to be very slow when I run editing programs like Final Cut Pro and Motion.
I have the basic model with 16gb of Ram.
I don't believe my computer should be running slow... especially when editing and just adding simple transitions.
The beachball appears and it lags.
It pretty frustrating especially knowing it can do it and invested the money so it could.
help anyone? what could be the problem?

I caputured footage from my ZU1 yesterday that encountered time code breaks. They should not have been there. My only thought is that the breaks occured when I shut the camera down and started recording later.
Maybe... I assumed it was user error... I was wondering if perhaps a setting in the camera was causing the breaks when the camera powers down.

  • I am having issues with new version of Final Cut Pro, is there away to download the last version so I can finish my projects?

I am having major issues with the new version of Final Cut x, I have missing clips and my computer is locking up, I need to finish some projects so is there away to go back to the last version before the new update?

Not unless you have saved a copy of the previous version; also, any libraries that you have updated to use in the newer version will not be usable in the older version anyway.
Rather than going back you should try and figure out what is wrong. The current version works great for most users. Start by clearing your preferences: hold down command and option keys while starting FCP X, and confirm when asked. Many different issues can often be solved by just that.
In case it doesn't solve, please provide more detailed information like OS version, Ram, drive and connection, etc

  • Intel 2.0GhZ iMac with 3G RAM and Final Cut Pro

    Hello all -
I've read a lot about Final Cut Studio/Pro etc either running or not running on the Intel iMac. I'm pretty confused. So I'm going to try this:
With the above machine, will I be able to run FCP and do some low-end MiniDV editing in non-broadcast quality format?
Essentially, we are using three Panasonic dvx100s to record our band this weeekend, with an audio coming from the soundboard. We want to import about 30 minutes of coverage from these 4 sources, and produce a Youtube-quality video of maybe 6 minutes in length max.
Am I going to find myself in the drink without a paddle, or will FCP work? What version would I need? I already have Final Cut Express 2.0.1 - but have never installed it - would this by chance work as a backup?
    Please advise -
    Thanks!

I'm not sure why you're confused. Reading posts you'll learn that FCP will run on an iMac but that isn't the problem, the abject lack of any sort of expansion beyond a single firewire bus is the iMac's largest downfall.
Video processing is hard, no matter what format it is so the rationale of using an iMac only for dv25 editing is essentially an argument against doing something properly.
Of course you can use your iMac but your biggest problem will be cabling up your external media harddrive(s) and your dv25 feeder device, whether it's a vtr or one of your DVX100 cameras. Lotsa folks have no problems with daisy-chained devices, lotsa folks do. Just beware the limitations and I would strongly urge you to do complete system test from front to back regarding acquistion, edit and output.
    Good luck.

  • Working with AE CS4 and Final Cut Pro

    Hi all,
I've been doing a lot of projects recently working between AE CS4 and FCP.
All the work I've been doing has been animation based and all projects have been HD. I've been rendering out clips of up to a minute from AE as .mov with H.264 codec and then putting them in FCP to edit together.
The problem that I'm having is that quite often FCP runs slowly once there are a lot of mov files in the sequence. It also crashes when there is a long (50 seconds, so not really that long!) .mov clip in the sequence. I was just wondering if there is a better way for me to be rendering these clips out for use in FCP. Obviously they need to stay at a very high quality.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Thanks,
    - Lewis

As Andrew said, simply use different CoDecs and don't get miserly on file sizes. Simply buy another harddisk, if you run out. H.264 is very processor intensive and even the most beefy MacPro with FCP3 can only decode so many such files in realtime. For ProRes, Todd provides additional guidelines on his blog, but of course other CoDecs shoulkd work as well.

  • Is there an easier way to work with adobe after effects and final cut pro x

I use adobe after effects and I am thinking about deleting motion and compressor ( I can always install again). If you have a good reason to keep those apps let me know because I don't want to be hasty. If I delete them and stick with after effects and final cut pro...  Is there a secret to easy working between FCPX and adobe after effects?
    Thanks

You'll go from FCP X to and from Motion a lot easier than AE.  Motion does pretty much anything AE does, most of the time faster and easier.  Without Motion, you can't do custom templates.  You can't customize the encoding of files without Compressor.  Why would you want to remove them from your system?  Leave them, use AE if you want along side of them.  But I'd learn Motion first.  Cause AE doesn't read FCPXML, so going back and forth between them is a PITA.
And until Apple releases the round trip between FCP X and Motion fully, we have this gem:

  • How to import MXF files to Final Cut Pro with smooth editing

Summary: Follow this tutorial to learn how to import and edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro by converting MTS to FCP native format.
If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a
great video format to record high-definition videos, it is not easy to
use in that they are not natively supported by most NLE systems like
Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done. To
help those who wanna edit MXF files in FCP without problems, here I
share with you a simple guide on how to convert MXF files to edit in
Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X.
First of all, downloading the App- Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac
Overall, the program is a professional yet easy-to-use MXF Converter
on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
    1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
    2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
    Tips:
    a. Settings- click to set video
    resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
    20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
    b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
    3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes
MOV for FCP 6/7/X under Mac OS. Once the MXF to ProRes 422 conversion
is done, you can transfer MXF footage into Final Cut Pro (X) for editing
    smoothly on Mac with ease.
