Having problem with spinning ball using final cut pro x with new macbook pro with retina screen

Update the software. There is no reason to run a two year old version.

  • Final Cut 4.5 and New MacBook Pro

I've been out of the loop for a while. I had a 1.5ghz Powerbook and Final Cut HD, etc. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and was suprised to see that I could not open Final Cut Pro anymore (says I don't have an AGP card). What're my options? Thanks

You need the Intel version of FCS, which is version 2.
Should run you about $499.00 when it ships next month.
Apple has an inexpensive upgrade available for nearly fifteen months and was promptly displayed at its web site.
    That expires on March 19th.
It pays to stay in the loop I guess.
    I'm less patient than Jim.

  • Problems installing Final Cut Studio on my new Macbook Pro

I just got my new 17 inch Macbook Pro, and am trying to install Final Cut Studio 3.  It installed just fine, and accepted the serial number.  The problem is that every time I open the application, I have to reenter the serial number.  Once I do that, it runs fine, but the next time, I have to reenter the info again.  Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

do some searching here.  I remember other people having this problem.  You might also try repairing permissions on your startup drive, deleting your fcp preferences

And creating a new account in system preferences:  accounts.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 on new MacBook Pro 15"

Is this configuration enough to run FCS2 on one of the new (June 2009) MacBook Pro 15"?
    -2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    -8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    -500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    -SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
-MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
If so, do I need the 8GB RAM or could I stick with the new standard of 4GB? I don't plan on working with HDV too much, but I may need to edit a few clips of it. Other than that, everything will be standard DV or miniDV.
    Thanks.

Yes, these specs will satisfy FCS2, with some exceptions (notably, Color requires a 17" screen). Here is the full list of requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
8GB is way overkill for HDV (it's moot at present anyways, as FCP can only utilize 4GB), and WAY overkill for DV.
500GB is enough HD space, but you'll get better performance and reliability with an external HD rather than working with media on your system drive.

i have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

What cable can I use to transfer data from a 2008 MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro with thunderbolt?

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • How to use my time capsule on my new macbook pro retina (time machine error)

    Hello all,
I've been using my old mac for a while with my time capsule, but recently I bought the new macbook pro retina and I wanted to use the time capsule as the backup disk on the new one. However, whenever I try to run the backup, a message appears "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/XXX’s MacBook.sparsebundle” is already in use."
I wanted to override the settings so that the new macbook will use the time capsule for its backup disk instead of the old one, as I will no longer be using it.
I was wondering if anyone had this problem before and if anyone know how I can solve it?
    Thank you

You could delete the old backup from your old laptop? If you need to keep it then you need to rename that folder so that your new macbook can creatie its own file in the same name.
    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Created project using Final Cut Express 4, can I open it with Final Cut Pro

Created a short video using Final Cut Express 4, will my teacher be able to open this project up with Final Cut Pro???

Depends on exactly which version of FCP your teacher is using.

  • Installing final cut express 3.5 onto macbook pro 10.8.4

My Final Cut Express 3.5 will not install onto my new macbook pro 10.8.4
Seems like an awful waste of money...
Does anybody know of a way around this?
    - or is there someone I can sue?!

There is a bug in the installer program that will not allow it to install into a Lion or Mt. Lion Mac.  However FCE 3.5 is a Universal app, which will run on Intel Macs without reference to Rosetta.
Due to its age, there may be some incongruities in this program when run in Lion or Mt. Lion.

How recently did you purchase this program; and did you purchase it new?  Have you been able to get use from this purchase on your previous Mac?

There are two methods to install FCE 3.5 into your Mt. Lion Mac:
    1)  Use Pacifist
    2)  Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method for FCS2, but modified for use with FCE 3.5 (if you are able to figure out those modifications):

  • Final Cut Studio - Install on Two Macbook Pros?

I just purchased the academic version of Final Cut Studio. I have been reading the forums and have discovered that it is possible to install this on one desktop and one laptop, and both work as long as you are not working on them at the same time.
However, I have not been able to find if it is possible to install Final Cut Studio on two Macbook Pros. Does it have to be one desktop and one laptop or is it limited to two installations total? The license agreement says one desktop and one laptop, however how would it know if it were two laptops?
    Thank you for your feedback.

Used by you doesn't mean used by someone else that doesn't own the computer
I'm an editor. Been one for several years. Any company I've worked for and edited with FCP has been on the company's computer and software, not owned by me. Are you saying that an editor for a company is expected to purchase their own computer and software in order to edit for a cooperation? Unlikely. A freelance or independent editor may have their own system that they edit on, but I am talking about an editor as an employee at a cooperation (where personal computers are restricted) or Macs and software that are available at an educational institution like an Apple Authorized Training Center.
I went to Apple Campus as a requirement of becoming ACT and "used" Final Cut pro on a computer that was not owned by me. Several others have done this and will continue to do so because it's a loophole that is apparently intended in the SLA for these reasons. Unless you're saying that Apple is breaking their own SLA agreement and advising others to do so in their training facility requirements which states:
    The AATC is responsible for:
    • Providing all hardware and software described in this document
The definition of the word "used" in this circumstance begs further clarification. Until that happens one can assume that the ordinary circumstance of its meaning for this situation is open to various interpretations.
OK so let's say I agree with your comment even if I don't. It still doesn't mean that if I owned a laptop and desktop that I can't use both at the same time according to the SLA. Only that they can't both be used at the same time over a network. So If I was encoding or rendering video on my desktop I could still use the laptop to edit at the same time.

  • Final Cut Express HD and the Macbook Pro

I just purchased a Macbook Pro along with final cut express HD. After purchase I read that FCE HD won't work with the macbook pro. I was hoping to see if anyone knew if they were coming out with an upgrade to the universal version like they are with Final Cut Pro.
Intel based macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

That will not work. Ian's solution is for dual core G5s and PCIe based iMacs. It does not address Intel based machines like the 2006 iMac and the MacBook Pro. These machines will have to wait till the end of March for the release of new Universal Binary software to run on them. It's possible FCE3 will never run and will need to be upgraded to another version. If you recently purchased FCE HD to run it on this new computer, I'd suggest, if you can, to return it until the position on the new software becomes clear.

  • Can i transfer Final Cut Pro from my old MacBook Pro to my new MacBook Pro?

i just bought a new MacBook Pro and would like to have FCP on my new computer.
is there any way i can do this?
i dont have the CDs. i dont care if it will no longer work on my old Mac.
    its FCP v6.0.6
    MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.3
    2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

You could try Migration Assistant in Applications/Utilities, but this not recommended for Pro Applications.
Best is a clean install using the disks, you could borrow the disks from a colleague.
In both cases you will need your S/N. If you lost that you have to consider taking a 'How do I get myself organized'-course.

  • Problems migrating my Win XP Pro laptop to new MacBook Pro

My new MacBook Pro arrived this week a few weeks after the VMWare Fusion 2.0 software, both purchased online from The Apple Store, and I started the process of porting my Win XP Pro Dell laptop to the new Mac using VM Ware Converter and Fusion. The migrated PC virtual machine won't boot up on the Mac. A pop-up message from that VM said Windows is shutting down because it says it's incompatible with the SCSI drivers inside the virtual machine, which appear to be installed by VM Ware:
Your guest operating system is Windows XP and you have one or more virtual SCSI devices installed in your virtual machine.
Please be aware that Windows XP does not support the BusLogic SCSI adapter that VMware Fusion currently uses for its virtual SCSI devices. If you have not done so already, you will need to install our driver in the virtual machine. You can download the driver from our Web site at "http://vmware.com/info?id=43".
Click OK to continue or Cancel to abort.
-- I can only start up Windows on the VM in Safe mode, which won't accept the installation of VM Ware Tools, which I assume is what can install this driver easily on the VM. I tried to uninstall the SCSI drivers inside Windows and reboot the virtual machine, but it didn't take. I then tried redoing the VM conversion from the Dell and selecting Install VM Tools from the get-go; that only had the effect of blowing my entire Sunday night, as the conversion takes about 2 hours.
-- That link above from the error message isn't to a page for the exact driver required; it just takes you to the generic home page for downloads of ANY VMware product. I also tried to look for a driver to download from the Web site onto the source machine, but the docs and directions and software seem to be geared to enterprise customers. I'm just sitting here in my pajamas at the kitchen table; I don't have servers, or floppy drives, or understand half of the vocabulary. I'm not even exactly sure what the "host computer" they talk about is in this scenario -- the source machine? The destination machine that hosts the VM?
I also posted this at VM Ware's forums -- but I'm throwing it out here too in case other new Mac users are having issues like this one and have any advice. I'd like to use the Mac as both a Mac and a PC and would hate to have to just run it as a Windows machine with BootCamp, but it's looking like that might be the way to go unless I can unsnarl this issue; I hear that Parallels isn't any easier to deal with, but that might be also something to try.

Actually, Apple does not sell VM Fusion. VM Fusion is a product of VMWare. You purchased it from an Apple Store that included it in the sale. This was provided by the store's manager, not by Apple. Apple itself does not sell VM Fusion nor include it with any computer sold on the Online Store. Apple provides no tech support for any third-party products, not even those included with pre-bundled software such as Quicken.
There is no VM Fusion forum that's part of the Apple Discussions although there is a Windows forum and a Boot Camp forum that provides support for Boot Camp which is a part of OS X.
If you need VM Fusion support your best bet is to visit their support forum. Same for Parallels Desktop for Mac.

  • Migration Assistant - Problems copying 2009 MacBook Pro data to new MacBook Pro

Purchased new MacBook Pro and tried to copy old MacBook Pro (circa 2009) data to new one using migration assistant.  It stalled after about 20 hours via wireless.  My question is how can I restore the new machine to factory settings and start over?  Or is there a better way to copy the remaining files/applications?  Please note that I've tried to run migration assistant again and it keeps exiting to login screen on the new MacBook Pro - after connection is made.

How much RAM does it have?
In spite of what Apple says, 4GB is not practically adequate with the new 64-bit systems (Lion and successors). All MBPs from Early 2011 forward, with user-installable RAM SO-DIMMs, can take up to 16GB with no problems and with greatly enhanced performance.
And if you still persist in running the systems with 4GB, make sure there's ample paging space on the HDD.
