Having second hand iPhone 4 of family member now recognized as a device linked to my apple account and not theirs.
I'm sure this has been covered in another tread but I haven't been able to locate a solution to my query so here goes...
I have acquired an iphone 4 (and an iPad 2 but not too concerned with it in this discussion) from a deceased relative. Have unlocked the phone as my uncle's carrier was vodafone which differs from my carrier so no problems there...
The phone is working perfectly as a phone but in terms of transferring apps from my old phone which i have backed up to my macbook pro's itunes to my uncle's phone is proving an issue. In addition to this my old iphone without a sim card but with 3G or Wifi enabled will receive imessages rather than my uncles.
Essentially my uncle's iphone does not seem to respond as a piece of apple tech when synced with my itunes.
I am aware that there is issues with iphones and people having acquired them second hand have been told they have essentially bought a pricey paperweight.
Where my situation differs is I have the account details for my uncle's apple account.
Is there any way given that i have these details i can have my uncle's iphone recognized as a device linked to my apple account so that i can receive imessages and sync backed up apps from my old iphone 4 to this iphone.
Any instructions would be really appreciated and again if this has been covered before please bear with me

I bought a second hand iPhone 4s from a friend as he is short in caash, and I've been using it for awhile. I "restore and upgrade it" without thinking or checking the Find my iPhone settings, unfortuately it is turned ON. Although the previous owner removed the phone lock, I never asked for his icloud account as I intend to use the phone only for calling. I cannot contact him as his contacts and email address were erased when I restore the iPhone.
I have learned a hard lesson since Apple security is impregnable, my iPhone 4S will just be an expensive paper weight.no.

Or, you can take the proof of purchase or proof of ownership to an Apple Retail store or call AppleCare at 800-APL-CARE to have them deactivate the lockout. You will need absolute proof that you own the device or purchased it from the owner.
Really? Are you sure? There is no mention of being able to do that on Apple's site I can find. It strikes me as being very easy to fake having purchased something from somebody. How is Apple supposed to verify you really purchased it and didn't just write out a receipt yourself?

The only option is to contact that person to have them remove Activation Lock from the iPhone. They can do it online and do not have to come to you. Check out the article below for more information.

Then there's nothing you can do. Only the previous owner can help you. They must either provide the ID and password, or erase the phone and remove it from their account as explained in the article you were reading. There's no way around this.

You need to find out who the carrier was in Switzerland and see if they will unlock the device. The carrier with the lock is the only one that can authorize the unlock. You may need to check with the original owner and see if they can get it unlocked by the carrier if you do not qualify.

I cannot activatea second hand iphone 4s as i don't have previous owners itunes ID. I can't get anything on the phone after setting the language as its asking for activation. Unfortunately, the only one who can help is the previous owner. Otherwise you will not be able to activate and use the phone. Apple can't/won't help you with this either.
