HDMI vs. Component Cables for iTV

Hello All,
I did not see a place to ask a questiona about iTV so I am asking it here if that is alright. If you have an iTV connected via HDMI and component cables can you switch between which input you would like to view? I know of someone who has both connected and can only show its picture if the HDMI cable is unplugged. Is there a conflich between HDMI and component cables?
Thanks A Latté

  • Anyone using a HDMI to component cable?

    Using an Apple TV 2
My TV doesn't have HDMI - I see cables for sale, but not at the Apple store. Anyone use one so I know it will work?
    Thanks

Can anyone answer the original question - Are you doing this?
Yes, using the "converter" option. Or rather I can do this and have for test purposes but now have enough HDMI HDTVs in the home to not be forced to do this if I choose not to do so.
Have you tried and it didn't work?
As indicated above I tried it. Normally, the only time the converter I have won't currently work is if the target TV does not support 720p input. No one has yet mentioned the fact that unless you purchase a "broadcast level" device, these converters do not include any scaling capabilities. If your particular TV only supports 1080i component input, then even the converter will will not work because the component output is still at 720p as output by the TV2.
    DId it work?
    Once again, it did.

  • I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the Component and Audio ports on my TV?

I have an Retina display MacBook Pro with HMDI out port. I also have an HDMI to Component cable with Audio Plugs. How can I get HDMI out to work with this cable when plugged into the MacBook Pro and connected to the TVs Component and Audio in ports.

Will not work.  To my knowledge, dual converting like that isn't supported.  The Mac must detect the connected video output device and that sort of info cannot be done across an analog component uni-directional connection.

  • HDMI vs Component cables

I burned a dvd using idvd.  When I play it on my Samsung BluRay DVD player using the HDMI cables to the flatscreen tv, the "theme" plays, but no other added slideshows or clips will play.  The counter on the dvd player shows something is playing.  However, a "no signal" message floats across the flatscreen tv.   When I use component cable, all's well.  Why won't it play properly with HDMI cables ?    Do I need to specify something different before burning ?
    thanks.

  • I have a 1st generaltion apple tv which was recently changed from HDMI to component cables to connect to TV; now it will not remember my server password or my apple ID information which has to be re-entered everytime I use apple tv; how can I fix this

I have a first generation apple TV. recently I have rto change from HDMI input to my TV to a component imput. Now my apple tv will not rememebr my sertver password or apple ID which I have to re-enter everytime I use Apple tv which is annoying; how can I fix this?

Changing the video connection has nothing to do with the passwords.
Are you certain it is a 1st Gen ATV?

  • How can i use apple tv and iTunes movies with component video cables for an older receiver and projector?

i have an older yamaha receiver and projector both without hdmi inputs but component video instead. I would like to get apple tv and start renting movies through iTunes but apple tv only supports hdmi and ive read that iTunes has codes to prevent the use ot analog cables with movies. Is there a way to adapt hdmi to component video for both apple tv and iTunes easily?

Yes, HDMI is the only supported method. Also, with converters you will run into issues with HDCP (which will prevent you from streaming DRM content from iTunes etc) as well as resolution.

  • HDMI Output to Component Cable setup

Will the new Apple TV work with a cable similar to a PlayStation that has a HDMI out cable that converts to a component/audio set. I have an older HD television that does not have HDMI inputs and only component input.

As you mentioned, the adapter cables won't work. There needs to be a conversion of digital (HDMI) signal to analog (component) which requires a device (converter box). (below are URLs that explain why these cables don't work - no endorsements implied)
    http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdmi-to-component-cable.html
    http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/component-to-hdmi-cable.htm
With only the HDMI output the new ATV will likely enforce HDCP (digital copy protection) so some content may not output at all. The current ATV doesn't enforce HDCP per the discussion below.

  • IPod Classic, component cables, TV, does not work, help...

I just bought the nifty Apple component cables for my 160GB iPod Classic and it is not sending video properly to my TV. I plug my DVD player component inputs into the TV, it works. I plug the iPod Classic component inputs in and I get sound but a black & white, swirly, barely distinguishable image.... and yes, I have triple checked that the cords are correct, and tried changing them around.
Could someone shed some light on this? I plugged the component cable set directly into the iPod, so its not a dock issue, and I checked that the iPod is set to NTSC...

i figured it out a while ago

  • Component Cable not working after ios5.0.1 update

Iv been using my Iphone 4 with my component cable for over a year now and never had a problem. However, since i recently updated my iphone to 5.0.1 iv been unable to get a picture through my tv, only sound . The strange thing is, i have a pioneer headunit in my car and can still play videos through this on the app mode (which from what i gather basically a tv out mode) . I have noticed that i can only access the tv settings menu when plugged into my car screen.
Does anyone had this? any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers

Lucky guy! (or girl) I thought that too. I bought another and binned the old one but still no joy, stupid i know! And its not the tv as iv tried my xbox and works fine on component.
Im all out of ideas now! Anything else it could be? Its not an official cable, i think its. capdase, but as its worked for so long that wouldnt matter, would it?
    Cheers guys

  • Av Component Cable with the iPod Mini?

My son bought me the AV Component Cable for my Mini to link only the audio with my RCA inputs of my preamp. I couldn't find anything in Apple Support that says I can do this, and I talked with an Apple tech rep who didn't know but thought by referring to the specs for the Mini that it is NOT compatible. Now granted, I could just open the box and find out, but I thought I 'd ask to see if anyone has tried to use this cable for this purpose and succeeded or failed.
    Any takers?

AV Component Cable - I need to know more details about this cable.
But if it came with an iPod dock (the dock that allow you to place your iPod mini with it), what you need to do is to connect the AV component cable between the dock and your preamp as follow:-
1.The jack of the dock (in red colour) -> AV component Cable -> Audio in (or CD/Tuner) of your Preamp (in red colour of Right Channel)
    2. The jack of the dock (in white or black colour) -> AV component Cable -> Audio in (or CD/Tuner) of your Preamp (in white or black colour or Left Channel)
In case it did not come with the dock then what you need to do is either :-
    A. Plug your cable with the dock of your iPod Mini (the buttom of your iPod) or,
    B. Plug your cable with the headphone jack of your iPod Mini
Then connect to other end of your cable with your Preamp (Audio in)..

  • Does HP 2311gt (QJ684AA) support HDMI 1.4a cable ?

i am going to buy a HP 2311gt 3D Monitor, but i am not sure whether it support  HDMI 1.4a cable. because i found out that 3D content need HDMI 1.4a  cable for batter picture quality or it doesn't mean any thing whether it 1.3b or 1.4a, all the cables are the same. As far as i know my Nvidia GTX 660ti do support 3D an it compatable with HDMI 1.4a.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

In theory, you will need a minimum of a HDMI v1.4 cable to support 3D content. If you get a v1.4a or v1.4b cable you shouldn't have any issues. I would suggest getting a v1.4b cable as it is the most current version and supports the most formats.

  • Cant get HDMI 1.4 cable to work with TV.

I bought two brand new Apple TV's for my kids for Christmas. Bought HDMI 1.4v cables for them. When I go to hook up the apple tv with the 1.4v cables i get nothing on the TV. It shows nothing on the TV. I have other Apple TV's version 2 hooked up with HDMI 1.3 cables and they work fine. Why can't i get this version to work?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There is no such thing as a 1.3 or a 1.4 HDMI cable, there are standard and high speed cables, both will work with the Apple TV 2 and the high speed cable meets both 1.3 and 1.4 standards for HDMI.
Have you tried one of your other cables, have you tried the Apple TVs with another TV.

  • I'm looking for a good HDMI to component converter,

I decided to get a 2nd Apple TV for our basement room where we have an older TV with no HDMI input.  I bought a cheaper HDMI to component converter but whenI hooked it up to the TV, I just got some weird green images and after triple checking all the cables, and testing the new Apple TV on our main TV with HDMI, I decided that the converter was the problem.  Has anyone had any luck using a converter to get Apple TV to work with an older TV?
If so, please let me know what to look for.
    Thanks.

Potential issues for you with such a converter.
If the converter is HDCP compliant then you wont be able to watch content from the iTunes store or netflix.
If your TV isn't widesceen or doesn't accept 720p then you'll likely find your picture is squashed or doesn't fill the screen properly.

  • I have a macbook pro, a mini display port to hdmi cable to hook up to my tv (a toshiba 1080p flatscreen).  what do I do to actually get the image on the tv screen?  Do I need another cable for sound?

I am trying to watch a tv show that I purchased into I-tunes.  I have the cable and it hooks to the TV okay.  The TV shows the regular apple screen that looks like the universe screen - like when it boots up or is doing an upgrade on the OS.  I can't get the image to go from the laptop to the TV.  I tried under displays and it shows the TV as a display but I can't get the image on the TV.......Please help.

I need to know which MacBook Pro you have.  Only mid-2010  and later MBP's transmit sound through MiniDisplay Port to HDMI.  I have no information about the Mac Pro, so you might want to go to that Forum and ask there.

  • What cables do I need to connect my 2013 macbook pro to my HD tv? I know I need mini display to HDMI, but male? female HDMI??? and also, do I need a separate cable for sound?

Actually you need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. It will carry both audio and video.
This one will work: Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
