HDV playback with quicktime won't work

I have some video on a hard drive that was captured in final cut as HDV clips. Even though the clips are .mov files, the video won't play in quicktime.
Quicktime tells me that I need to download video components to play the video in full, but it doesn't say WHAT component I need.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Okay, thanks. That's disappointing, but I'll have to make do. I am editing a short for someone and when they captured, they named the clips only in final cut, not the actual files. Now I have to re-import some files, but I don't know which ones since they are all labeled "untitled" 1-103. Oh, well. It's not too much of a big deal. I was just trying to save some time.

.avi animations made with Flash won't work on my mac laptop (version 10.6.8) but they used to. What is the problem?

let me be more specific, the .avi animations will not play in Quicktime on this laptop, but they used to. When I import them into final cut express they won't show up there either. What should I do to fix this?

  • Quicktime won't work on my new iMac?

    Hi all,
I've just got myself a new iMac, did a migration of all the stuff of my old Powerbook G4 and now Quicktime won't work!!
I had a Pro version of QT 7 but now it states I just have the free version! I did a software update and it told me to update QT, I tried but software update kept telling me that it cannot save the QT update. So in my frustration I deleted QT and decided to download it directly off the Apple site....it downloaded and then stated it can't mount the disk image...what on earth is going on, can anyone help?
    Thanks

You must purchase a new QT key for each computer.
Since you have a new iMac, you are entitled to 90 days of FREE phone tech support from Apple and you can use the Chat with a Support Agent. The online chat support _*is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.*_

I am having the same problem. Anyone else have this problem and find a solution??

  • Quicktime won't work on Firefox

Quicktime 7.1.5 won't work on Firefox 2.0.0.3. Any ideas as to why?
    Thanks!!

Jesus Christ, how tedious. Can I just revert to a previous Firefox somewhere in the 3.xxx range where everything worked just fine? I am MacBook Pro laptop. Are you sure you're giving me mac instructions and not PC instructions? This looks more like a PC fix than a mac fix. The exact same problem is happening on my girlfriend's mac computers. I may have to go back to Safari which works just fine and plays the MP3s. This is a very bad happenstance if Firefox is so screwy that everyone has to do all the crap listed above just to get an MP3 to play. This is something Firefox should fix instead of having all Firefox users be confronted with such a glitch. Bad Firefox, Bad Firefox!!!!!

  • Quicktime won't work on IE when Itunes installed and vise versa

I can't view Quicktime movies on Internet Explorer unless I install the standalone quicktime installation. But then I can't run Itunes, becuase it says quicktime isn't installed. If I install Itunes with quicktime, then the videos in IE stop working. I've tried uninstalling both. And installing each separately in different orders to try to get this to work. I do get one error each time quicktime is installed. [Quicktime for windows] [there is a problem with this windows installer package a program required for this install to complete could not be run]. It installs anyway. I have not been able to figure out what program is missing, nor find any solutions to that error and am trying to avoid a complete reinstall of windows.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Can you check the solution available in this FAQ page: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-faq.html?

  • Can't upgrade to iTunes 10.3.1 because quicktime won't work

I attempted to upgrade to iTunes 10.3.1 but it won't work because "quicktime failed." How do I upgrade now?

Update to 10.5.1. Itunes 10.2.1 is out of date by now and won't be possible.  Update to the newest version and you shouldn't have a problem

  • ITunes and QuickTime won't work.

My PC is on Windows 7 and will not run Apple software.
When I try to open QuickTime I get these error messages...
This is becoming very anoying and I can't figure out how to fix it.

That's consistent with some program (other than QuickTime itself) stashing old QuickTime componentry down in your system files.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Only sound, when I export HDV project with Quicktime

I'm working with Final Cut Pro 5.0 (yes I know I have to upgrade) with material from HV 20.
When I export my finished project with the export to Quicktime opt. I can't watch the movie in Quicktime player, Itunes, VLC or MPEG Streamclip, only in FCP. The Sound is there but know picture.
since I do not yet have DVD Studio I know have a problem, since I cannot make a DVD out of it.
Or can I? Why is there no picture? How can I do it the best?
I also tried exporting it through compressor to H.264 and quicktime. That as well didn't work.
    Grateful for help!!!
    /David

Make sure that you have the current HDV codec present in your /Library/Quicktime folder. If you don't have the codec you will sound but no picture. The codec is automatically installed when installing FCS--but interestingly I had to manually install it from the FCS install packages using Pacifist when I upgraded to Leopard (on my PPC machine, the Intel one was OK).
Unfortunately Apple does not make the codecs available for download--which makes no sense. If you want to pass an HDV movie over to another machine you must manually install the Apple HDV Quicktime codec. I don't even know if Apple considers this some sort of violation of their License.

  • Lightroom 5.6 "Edit in" with merge won't work with Photoshop Elements 13

I just installed Photoshop Elements 13 to edit photos from Lightroom. A single file will via "Edit in" will work, but all action on multiple files end in "could not start editor", even though the editor does start, it just won't open up any photos. Photomerge will work from files opened in Photoshop Elements, but i really don't want to organize my catalogue in both programs.
All combinations of export settings result in the same, i also deleted my settings again and tested it with another account on my computer.

None of my "Edit In" worked with the pictures in Lightroom for a particular folder. I expanded the 2014 folder and found that two subfolders had a "?" in front of the 2014-07-04" and another. In other words, the folder was missing. After I found the missing folders using the Lightroom "Find Missing Folder" option, I was able to use the "Edit In" menu item. The 2014 folders weren't expanded at first, so I didn't see the ? marks in front of them. With the missing folders, Lightroom's "Edit In" option was basically telling me there was no picture to "Edit In." Howerver, I have Previews and Smart Previews made when I import picture files into Lightroom. So, the "pictures" showed in the slide strip on the bottom, and also in the display in "expand," but it was actually only showing the previews I had built, not the actual missing pictures in the missing folders. I had accidentally moved some directories using Windows Explorer, and I didn't realize my "happy fingers" moved them outside of Lightroom. Of course, Lightroom has no way of knowing I moved them, and just shows the "?" before the missing folder name. After expanding the root folder, then knew what to do. Fixed it easily. It was frustrating, and took about 20 minutes to see the problem. And that fixed the greyed-out "Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014, and all the other plug-ins were greyed out too.
    Hope this fixes your problem.
    Mike

  • Quicktime won't work or update

I was starting to use a piece of software that uses Quicktime and it said it would not work. It is for Olympus camera and it has worked in the past but it has been since December since I used it.
I believe it is QT 5 that came with the software. I tried to reload the program and Quick timew - it seems to go through the motions and then comes back and says quicktime hasn't installed.
If I go to Start - All Programs - it is not there. If I go to explorer - there is a file of QT. I tried downloading the version 7 - it will not load.
    So what do I do?
So how do I get quicktime to install and work.
    All my other programs work

    Other information:
I get a Message: QT failed to run Error 2085
another when I log on to this site - Error 0
I tried installing 6.3 and had the same problem.
I think in the past when I tried to run Adobe Premiere essentials - the version 7 froze everything so we wnt backwards and removed all Version7 and unloaded adobe .
But I am unable to load anything now and I do not want the current version since it freezes everything up.

  • Video playback from albums won't work when AV cable connected

I have created an Album on my iPhone 3G that has stills & video content. Previewing & playback on my phone works fine. However, when I playback the album hooked up with an Apple Composite AV cable, everything plays fine until it gets to the video where it just gives a black screen with the audio only playing. If I play the individual clip from iTunes on my phone, it plays back perfectly over the AV cable. Has anyone had any success playing back video in an Album over an Apple AV cable? Is it because I'm using an older model phone? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it is not plugged into an Ethernet port on the back by mistake? That would present a 150 ohm short circuit. The sockets are very similar, and some Ethernet sockets will take a phone cable as well.
I am surprised that a Freesat box needs a phone line, unless its for some form of remote control.

  • Quicktime won't work, and won't unistall!!

I have an iTunes problem that I suspect is being caused by Quicktime. I've tried downloading the latest version of QT but it tells me I already have a newer version installed (which I don't, it's the same version). I've tried uninstalling QT and after about a minute I get a vague "fatal error" message with no explanation. So I can're reinstall QT, and I can't uninstall it. I've tried reinstalling iTunes a million times with no help.

I finally got QT removed, after going through the painstaking process of searching through the entire Registry for all instances of "Quicktime", then deleting them. But guess what? When I reinstalled QT (using a fresh download from Apple's site), it STILL doesn't work, and subsequently iTunes does not work either. Just the other day, iTunes was working fine for me. Then suddenly, for no apparent reason, it stopped working. When I launch iTunes, I get a vague message saying "Sorry, iTunes encountered an error and must close". The problem is most certainly QT but who the **** knows what it it. Needless to say, my impression of Apple right now is total crap. MANY MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT A FIX!!!!!!!!!!!! APPLE - ARE YOU LISTENING????? (I DOUBT IT).
