Heads up to QT/iTfW troubleshooters: standalone download page changes

to be precise, there isn't a separate standalone download page any more. the QT for Windows download page comes now with two options: an itunes/QT installer bundle, and the QT standalone directly below it:

all my links (and presumably all your links) to the old standalone page have been redirected to the new page.
since the QT/iTfW bundle is the default download setting, we're going to have (for a while) folks reading through the old posts/threads and downloading the bundle by mistake. be on the lookout for reports of -3s coming from a supposedly standalone QT install ... it'll probably be being caused by the confusion due to our old links.

(marking this one as answered just to get it out of my unresolved questions ... no new news here.)

by any chance do you have McAfee Privacy Service installed on that PC?
if so, head to the itunes download page:

do you see a blank blue box to the left of that screen?
if so, see:
iTunes download button isn't visible on the Download webpage
(this issue can also hit folks on the QT Player and iPod software download pages, as well as the itunes one.)

If I buy the Lightroom 5 standalone download, can I put it on multiple of my computers without having to buy it again?

You may have at most two computers running the single license, where the second computer is either a laptop or a home computer. But you can only use one copy at a time:

10g Web Cache standalone download file

The 10g (9.0.4) Web Cache standalone downloaded file is named webcache_9.0.4.0.0_linux.tar.tar.
When I run "tar xvf" on the file it gives the error "tar: directory checksum error".
Can someone at Oracle please provide a good file to download?

Yes, you can use this file (as_linux_x86_webcache_101202.cpio) to install Standalone Web Cache. You can also install it off of Oracle Application Server Companion CD.
I tried it and when I extract this file here is what I see:
$ ls -l

Head ache because of placing the phone(downloading...

I got a full head ache(not too much though)from this morning and it is already 4pm and it is still not reduced a bit.
Do you think that it is causes by phone? cause I've made a mistake yesterday by placing my phone just beside my head and fell asleep.
I was downloading multiple files which would take overnight to complete.
When I woke up in the morning I had headache and the phone was shut down because of continuous downloading.
Do you think that head ache is because of the radiations and placing the phone close enough to head overnight?

Ya, I came to know what radiation can do.
Now I also feel that we shouldnot place the phone anywhere near our body especially while travelling, I remember I was placing two of phones in the pocket, it could be in the shirt or in the pants, it is too dangerous cause I feel brain is more sensitive, so I got headache, so other parts of the body are not so sensitive, they take the damage as it comes and we never know it.

Jafafxc standalone download for linux?

Is there a standalone download of javafxc for linux anywhere? I've seen blog posts about getting the netbeans plugin working on Linux, but I don't want to use netbeans. Ideally, I'd like to use a fully cross platform maven plugin, but for now I'd settle for a compiler I run by hand.

You can download the zip version of the MacOSX SDK (which does not come with the NB plugin) and then use the commandline executables and libs.

I am looking to download safari 3.2 for Tiger (via a standalone download on a PC
but the auto-browser detection on the download keeps giving me the windows version .... when I want the Tiger version !
If I cant get access the Tiger version, I will then have to stick to FireFox instead of Safari ! Perhaps it is the will of apple

What is the standalone download?

I've been a Firefox beta user for some time now, so I figured I should also use the beta Flash Player, as some people recommend. That's how I arrived at the beta download page, and I see there's another choice of download besides the common installer: the "standalone" one. I'm aware of more than one meanings for that word in the context of software, but I don't know what to make of it in this case.
Can anyone help me understand? I don't mind a more technical answer (I'm a hobbyist programmer), so there's absolutely no need to over-explain.

I've now noticed other posts mentioning this package as a binary release meant for development use - testing / debugging. Is this right? It would make sense. Does it have any other uses?

The "standalone" Flash Player download is just that - the standalone Flash Player than runs outside of a browser, as opposed to the browser plugin version that runs in a browser.
Launch the standalone player, and it opens a window that looks somewhat like a browser itself. you can open SWFs with the standalone player, and while it will display most content the same as the browser plugin, be aware that some content does depend on the browser for loading / security / external interface.

How to set up a Java Plug-in Download page in case of netscape?

hai all of you,
i have a problem regarding downloading plugin.
i am using <object > and <embed> tags to download the plugins inorder to run the applets. but it is taking long time to download the plugin form sun.com.
so what i have done is, i downloaded the plugin.exe file and .cab file and put it in my tomcat server mainted by other party.(y application if for internet purpose only.)
i refered to http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.2/docs/intranet.html. there it is mentioned that, to download the plugin.
for I.E i can able to change the code.
but for NetScape it's a little bit confusing.
i have downloaded the binary file in my own directory.
here he is asking to set up a java plugin-in download page.
instead of this "plugin-install.html" page what page i should create and what should be the code in this page if i have to write on my own. please let me know if anybody know about it.

I have successfuly done this.
Change the converted html as per the instructions to point to another page.
Here is an example of the new html page you need to create:

If you put the file j2re-1_3_1-win.exe on a web server somewhere then you will have to prefix the file with

that occurs with some browsers (eg, ff) especially for forum contributors because they can get so many adobe.com cookies.
try clearing your adobe.com cookies.

Officejet Pro 8500 A909a
MS Vista Ultimate 64 Bit.
When using my Linux PC to try and locate drivers for another PC, the website just keeps sending me in circles and never displays the drivers to download. Seems like in the past this has been a problem too. This occures with latest version of Firefox-37.0.1 and the current version of Chromium-37.0.2062.120 Built on Debian 7.6, running on Debian 7.8 (281580) (64-bit).
Navigate to hp.com
Select: Support | Download Drivers
Under 'Drivers and Downloads' tab
- enter product id: officejet pro 8500 A909a
- Select 'Go'
Expand the '+' that lists one link and select it.
None of the following links give a driver download!
- Troubleshooting
- How To
- Product Info.
- Users Guide
- Video Tutorials
- More Options
Maybe one of the options should be 'Driver Downloads'.
Just my $.02.

Some more developments ... the issue appears to be browser-specific. I can't see the download controls at the moment in either IE 8 (I'll get your message) or Safari for Windows 5.0.5 (I'll just get the blank box). But I can see the download controls in Firefox 4 and Chrome (whatever version I have of that).
So it might be worth installing Firefox and seeing if you can get the downloads via that:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/
