Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops that were just released a few days ago (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future? I will need more than the basic 256GB for sample libraries using music software, among other things, but currently larger flash drives from Apple are too expensive. I ask because I'm in the process of buying one of the new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops right now (or at least right after I get an answer to this question).
I saw in the Mac store when I started looking at the build options for ordering the Macbook Pro that under Memory it said the memory was built into the computer and therefore could not ever be replaced or upgraded in the future. So I was wondering if something similiar might be the case with the flash storage drives even though the same wasn't written under the hard drive options? If these flash drives can be replaced in the future then I would just purchase the starting 256GB drive and suffer through using connected external hard drives, as unwieldy as that would be, until there were potential replacement flash drives with larger storage capacties available on the market or through Apple for more reasonable prices. But if the hard drives in these laptops can't be replaced/upgraded I would go for the 500GB drive option (even though paying an additional $300, before taxes, for just 244GBs more storage space is absolutely outrageous no matter how great flash drives are with their read/write speeds, no moving parts to break, and lighter weight/thinner builds allowing for an overall thinner laptop). I would even go for the larger 1TB option, which is really what I need, except that costs an additional $700 which is more than enough to buy me a new 50inch, HD, flatscreen TV from a reputable brand if I were so inclined! (And yes, I understand the youth of the technology, current limits to flash drive capacities, and the reason for the high prices. I know I'm not getting bilked...)
So yeah, does anybody have an answer to this question? Can the flash hard drives in the new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops, just released, be upgraded/replaced in the future? Any answers are greatly appreciated and will save me some much needed cash on my purchase of one of these laptops! And I should also ask, if so, can they be replaced by the laptop owner with the normal toolset through the normal, easily done methods of hard drive replacement in laptops that has been common, or would I have to bring the laptop to a Apple technician?

macsales.com has been working on providing aftermarket modules for the older models that were on the SATA Bus.
These newer ones are likley directly on the PCIe Bus. That will take some time to develop. -
Brand new 15" MacBook Pro Retina - unplugged from Thunderbolt Display and Keyboards today find keyboard alpha-numerics not working; except the function keys, delete key, tab key, command/ctrl/shift/alt/fn and arrow keys; and 7/8/9/u/o/j/l produce cursor nudges.
It's a new machine - and the Thunderbolt Display is meant to work with it. You need to just make an appointment at your local Apple Store and have them fix whatever is wrong.
If you like, you could always try a SMC reset and a PRAM/NVRAM reset to see if either of those will get your keyboard back in working order...

So I'm currently in China, and I'm waiting for the Retail stores to start selling the new Haswell MacBook Pros. As much as i know, the government are approving them and I'm unfortunately, becoming impatient now. If you an answer to my question or suggestions, they would all be taken to my appreciation.

I miss it and I think Apple should have kept it around as it's low key machine, great for kids and adults who didn't like a lot of flash.
Now the 13" MacBook Pro is considered the equivalent on a similar performance basis, however it has the bright silver rich looking case that draws thieves attention and really isn't a "Pro" machine at all with it's inferior low performing integrated graphics.
Heck most $500-$800 Windows laptops are just the same in performance and has a larger 15" screen.
If you need a anti-glare screen you have to opt for the 15" or 17" MacBook Pro and pay $50 more for the anti-glare, but it's worth it. The 13" doesn't have a anti-glare option, but we are petitioning Apple to include that option.
I think Apple considered the MacBook as a educational computer, thus replaced it for a line of iPads which make considerable more margins and provides less hardware benefits as all the hardware features, stand, keyboard etc. are separate purchases. -
Possible fraudulant phone number from Apple online store.
Just wondering if anyone in the Apple community has had experience with fraudulent phone numbers from the Apple online store. The number in question is 1 800 506 3096 with a person named Michael with ext "1111015" needing to verify an iPhone purchase from placed by my father. Only thing is my father has never owned an Apple product and really doesn't even know how to order things online. My parents checked their credit statements and found no purchases so no identity was compromised.
It was a message left on my parents home phone, the man named Michael left the number and his ext in the message saying he needed to confirm details about a new iPhone purchase placed by my father.
-Update to the situation, my mother called the actual online store number the 1 800 my apple, spoke to a supervisor asking about this number that called them, the supervisor said he would call the number himself, after on hold for a minute or two he came back and said himself that the number was an actual apple online number. I seriously doubt it because I Googled the 1 800 506 3096 number and came across numerous posts saying they got a call from a Michael asking to confirm details about a purchase.

Macbook Pro Retina Display Cracked, is it replaceable or Do I have to replace the Whole Laptop?
Hi, I bought a Macbook Pro Retina about two months ago....
And a few days ago I cracked the Display on the Bottom Left Corner (3 inch)...
Now I am getting vertical and Horizontal Lines.....
I called a Apple Premium Reseller they told me I have to repalce the whole **** Laptop... is it real or I can just change the Display assembly only?
If so How much will it cost?Assuming that it is just the screen that is broken, it should be replaceable, but it will cost a lot. (How much I don't know.) Of course, if you dropped it or something similar, there could be all manner of other damage that you can't see. I dropped my previous MacBook Pro (didn't crack the screen), and when it finally failed, the diagnosis was a damaged logic board, and the total repair cost would have been over $1,000, with no guarantees that other components might not also be damaged. I opted to simply replace the machine rather than pay that much and run the risk of other expensive repairs in the future.

How well would the new 13" Macbook Pro Retina handle HD video editing, in say Adobe Premier?

I'm buying a new Macbook Pro and would like to know how well the different specs would handle editing HD videos from a GoPro. I've mostly been filming in 720 because my current white macbook (2008) is dying, but wouldnt mind filming in 1080.

ChrisI would agree that the $200 upgrade to the i7 would probably be the best choice if you want the 13" form factor. If you're able (and since these systems are so new, I've not seen many heads-up comparisons), I would ask to load Premier on both an i5 model and an i7 model and see which renders video more quickly. Usually, a lot of rendering depends on the GPU but, as I said, I don't know enough about the Iris built-in GPU to know if it's a lot faster than the old Intel 4000 or not.
If you can't get a hands-on Premiere comparison, surely you could ask for a FCP X demo on both machines!

When they told me about it I just thought it had a better display and decided it didn't bother me if the resolution was better, not knowing that it was thinner, has a HDMI connection, etc.
I bought my macbook pro 13 inch exactly a month ago tomorrow. If I go back and tell them this will I be able to upgrade my laptop? I paid more than $1300 or something for this one, I'd be willing to pay up to the price of the retina model, do you think I'd be able to do this?mende1 wrote:

Absolutely, like I say personal Choice. I believe from remarks in here that the SSD boots up on Mavericks in something like 10 seconds whereas mine takes even longer to boot than in Mountain Lion. But then we are advised to use sleep over boot as much as possible. My problem is I have 300GB of stuff and getting bigger, and when I bought mine the biggest SSD was 250 I think. For me the choice of replaceable RAM vs soldered-in RAM was a clincher.
