If the media and other important files were truly important, why were they not backed up for safe keeping prior to the restore?

You phone is in recovery mode. Your data is already gone.
Why you would attempt a software upgrade without backing up all your data first is beyond me, but to each his own.

After upgrade, attempted to open iPhoto to upload pictures from camera. Message says need to upgrade library and that after upgrade previous library will be unreadable. In holding pattern for now-don't want to lose all 4K prev pictures in iphoto library. Anyone have same or similar problem?
gotitans, I think you have an entirely different problem than we are discussing in this thread.
You should open your own thread, and you should describe your problems in more detail. For example, what type of Mac do you have, what operating system does it run, what version of iPhoto did you have running before the upgrade,and just what sort of upgrade did you do (hardware, operating system, iPhoto, something else)?
My best guess from just that message is that you did a hardware upgrade, and your version of iPhoto is too old to run on the new hardware.
ntgerh64, it would probably be good if you gave us the same details I asked of gotitans. I was assuming you were talking about upgrading OS X to Mavericks and then iPhoto to 9.5 or 9.5.1. -
The computer I use for Itunes (my laptop) only has XP so I can't use ICloud:(
I have a desktop that operates using with Vista.
I downloaded 10.5 and sought to sync my two iphones and two ipads with the desktop in order to use ICloud. However I got warning messages that if I synced with this computer that had none of my extensive library of apps, music, podcasts, etc. would be on it, I would lose it all.
I did authorize the computer. I knew enough to do that but am terrified that I will lose everything that I have accumulated and still won't be able to use ICloud.
Isn't there a way to do this? Shift my library FROM my devices to the desktop?
ThanksThis is a tedious solution, which is stupid! And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization. I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge! -
All I am simply trying to do is put some songs from my iTunes playlist on my computer onto my iPhone.
By erasing the content of my iPhone I'm scared that I will lose all my photos and messages etc.

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to the new one.

If I upgrade to Lion will I use my files and work in ilife? I don't want to lose photos, etc.
I would like to upgrade to Lion, mostly to gain access to icloud, but I am concerned that I would lose functionality with ilife. Our imac is a 2009.
You have the full suite of iLife installed? Which version? If it is an old version, it may or may not be compatible with Lion; however, you could easily buy the latest retail version (iLife 11) at the Apple store, online resellers, or ebay. I did that just so I would be able to re-install iDVD if necessary.
In any case, if you want to upgrade, make sure you have a full backup on an external hard drive (just in case) - either Time Machine or a bootable clone copy. That way, if anything does go wrong, you can simply restore to your earlier version. And, if you go ahead, make sure that you copy the Lion installer to a safe place after the download and before the install (the installer disappears after the install) - if you have a copy, you won't have to download it again should that become necessary. -

I'm missing a really important picture that I hope was backed up on Time Capsule. I'd like to view the pictures. We need more information here to be able to determine how to answer your question correctly.
Are you asking about Time Machine backups that you have made on the Time Capsule?
Are you asking about iPhoto or Aperture....or....another application?
Depending on your information, you may get a faster and more informed response if you post in the support forums for iPhoto or Aperture, but in general, if you are restoring an image library from Time Machine backups......you have an option when you restore the "old" library to keep the current library as well......so for a time, you will have two image libraries.
When you have found the image that you want from the "old" library and you no longer need it, you can delete the "old" library. -
I tried to do the 7.0.4 update on my iphone 5 and now it has the itunes logo stuck on screen and when I plug into itunes it states my phone needs to be restored. I don't want to lose all my stuff.... ideas?

my operating system is the before last oneOpen iTunes. plug in your iPhone to the usb-port while holding the home button pressed. Your bricked phone should now show up in iTunes.

Assuming you are in the U.S. the easiest way would be to just buy the T-Mobile iPhone 5s from a retail Apple store or the Online Apple store.
THose are unlocked. and all you would need to do is insert your own sim card into the phone.
