There are any number of possibilies... you could have problems with runaway applications, causing your machine to overheat and setting the fans off, you could have bad fan sensors, etc.
Open Activity Monitor (Applications>Utilities) and see if you have any apps that may be hogging the CPU. Call back.

    I have had my laptop for 2 years now, my problem is that my laptop heats up very quickly and it freezes.     Check to see how many programs you have open. CMD +Option + ESC buttons and maybe force close programs you aren't using. Remember the "red x" does not completely quit out of the program, to quit permanently use the drop down menu up top, click "application name" from drop down and than go to Quit "application name".

    The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner  in a strip including all that left hand.  When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal.  But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
    It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode.   My large flat screen is relatively new.
    The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
    Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

    That sounds like a Hardware problem.
    You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

    Question is did you lock your Mac from Find my iPhone using iCloud or is the Macbook really yours?
    If you have in fact locked your Mac using Find my iPhone on iCloud then you will need to enter the PIN you have set when you locked the Mac.
    *If you have not iniate the remote Lock then someone else has used your Apple ID and Password to lock your mac.

    I have a problem with my macbook pro. A band of varied colors about an inch & a half wide running the length of my screen vertically suddenly appeared. What is wrong with my Mac?

    This is either a graphics processor issue or a display issue. I highly suspect the latter. Either way, it is a hardware issue for which no online troubleshoot exists.
    To test, however, the next time it occurs, take a screen shot. If the distortion appears on your screenshot, then the problem is with your graphics processor and you to get your logic board replaced. If the distortion does not appear on the screenshot, then the issue is with your display and you need to get your display replaced.

    The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
    You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

  • I have a problem with my Macbook Pro which is as follows:

    Firstly, its a  250 Gb Hard Drive Mac Book Pro.
    When I open finder it appears as Michael-Jack Pollards and if I click get info it tells me it's a 499 gb Hard Drive with 91 gb of free space.
    So, when I use Carbon Copy Cloner I get two options to Clone: 1) Michael Jack Pollards 2) Mackintosh HD
    I try to clone Michael Jack Pollards on my 2 x 250 gb partioned 500 gb Hard drive of which it tells me there is not enough available space
    When I do the same back up using Time Machine it recognises that it needs to back up 153 Gb and has no problem soing this on my Partitioned drive
    Any suggestions as to what could be causing this and more importantly how I could solve it?

    I have a Macbook Pro that here lately when I boot up, the apple logo comes on like normal but it has little pink lines in the apple logo. Then when it boots up to desktop screen, I have lines and distortion on my screen. I have rebooted, reset pram, but nothing. Yesterday it started. I inserted the recovery disk to boot up from then it went away. This morning it is doing it again. Is this a hardware problem that I could fix, or is my computer gone. Have no more warranty on it. Or could this be a virus of some sort. Any help is very much appreciated.
