Hello. When I connect my imac Start, as usual, comes the start signal and then the white screen with the load signal then nothing happens. What could be the problem?

Presuming you get the chime, most of your Mac hardware is working and has passed the first part of the power-on self-test.
If the screen comes on, basic graphics is working.
The dark gray Apple is not present inside the Mac -- it must be loaded from a boot device. If the dark gray Apple appears, at least one of your boot devices has some capabilities. The flower petal/gear moves while Darwin is initializing and loading. If it stops immediately, something is terribly wrong.
When the screen turns blue, Mac OS X has loaded and your graphics card transitions to Interrupt-driven operation. LoginWindow task draws the login screen, and Mac OS X is ready for login.
What could be the problem depends on where in the process it stops, and whether the power light is blinking.

Hi, I have an iMac which I just booted up and have a white screen with a blue folder with a question mark blinking on and off. Any help would be appreciated. Tommy

That means your iMac could not find a system to use for startup.  That may mean the internal hard drive has become faulty, or the hard drive mechanism is fine, but the startup volume ("Macintosh HD" unless you renamed it) may have some type of data corruption that makes it unbootable.
First, you should try resetting PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
and if that does not help, use this procedure to reset SMC (power management).  If your iMac is from 2008, this is the procedure for Intel (not PowerPC) Macs.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
(This forum category is for "iMac (PPC)," so if this iMac is older (with a PowerPC processor), please post back.)
Disconnect all peripheral devices.  When you connect it back to power, if you have been using a power strip of some type, try connecting it directly to a wall outlet, by itself (at least initially).  Start up with nothing but the power cord connected, then add only standard mouse and keyboard.  If it works, run it that way for a while.
If PRAM and SMC reset have no effect, you should insert your Mac OS X installation disc (for the currently installed system) in the optical drive, and restart with the C key held down.  This should get you to the Installer screen, where you can run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In Disk Utility, does the internal hard drive appear in the sidebar?  If so, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab.  Use Repair Disk.  If an error is found, note if Disk Utility was able to fix it or not.
You can then quit Disk Utility and attempt to restart normally.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I do hope you have recent backup, because it look like your hard disk is failing. You can start up in Recovery Mode, and run Disk Utility to see if the disk can be fixed:  OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

My MacBook Pro fell and now when I turn it on its stuck at the apple logo screen with a loading circle underneath it. What can I do to get passed this?

Sounds like something internal was damaged in the fall, probably the disk drive. Take to Apple and ask them to fix it.

  • My macbook 13' (older version) starts only to white screen with apple logo tried to rebooot by pressing shift at the opening but it didn't finish starting before stopping please help anybody please

Are you using a 10.6 Snow Leopard Install DVD? If yes, you can erase and install following these directions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
You'll know whether or not it is a hard drive issue when you get to step 8 under "Part One: Erasing the hard drive". If you do not see your hard drive in the list on the left side of the Disk Utility window then you know the Mac isn't seeing it—could be a loose cable, but more likely hard drive failure.
If you can see it on the left, click on it and look at the bottom of the Disk Utility window. If you see something like "S.M.A.R.T status: failing" that is definitely a hard drive issue. Otherwise, you can just follow the directions for an erase and install!
Might be worth fixing depending how much a repair would cost. Genius Bar could at least diagnose it for you and give a repair estimate. I'd look at what a new or refurbished one with your same specs would cost though to see if the price differential is worth it...

  • TS1440 iMac freezes, no choice but to hard shutdown, turn back on, white screen with folder and question mark appears

    Hi,
so my iMac (it's not the most recent iMac if it makes any difference, and I'm running mountain lion 10.8.3) often freezes and I do a hard shutdown as I cannot force quit the applications or click on the apple in the top left to shut it down. When I come to turn it back on, I'm greeted with a white screen, in the middle of which is the dreaded folder with the flashing question mark in it. I've noticed that just before a freeze occurs, it starts running slowly and if I try going onto Facebook for example, it says that it cannot connect to facebook.com despite the internet connection being fine as I can browse things on Google. I have also noticed that before a freeze, in Finder, in All My Files, no files show. I went through this http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440 and the problem still persists. Sometimes it does load fine if I shut it down again but when I eventually open up safari, if I had been on youtube for example, it will reload the page from a few videos before and not the one I was on when it actually froze.
Any help would be hugely appreciated,
    Thanks
Side note: When it says I must choose a community in order to post this, it only gives me a choice of 3 which are Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, v10.5 Leopard, v10.6 Snow leopard, so apologies if this is posted in the wrong place - is there any way to get it moved to the correct place?

Yes,easy fix but difficult to buy, think you can get them from the states (off the top of my head about £15).When you go to the apple store, tell yhem what you suspect and they will test if it is the cable or if its the hard drive, dosn't take that long and it's free.If you know what to do you can take the back off and with strong magnifying glass you might be able to see the fray look at the bend of the cable.

  • MacPro doesn't start and stays on white screen with apple logo.

My mac pro does not start. It turns on because I hear the sound, Then the apple logo and progress bar appears. The progress bar does not load fully. I have done all the troubleshooting that is to be done including disk verification, disk repair, single user mode, set SMC and VPRAM. Nothing has helped. I have not backed up my files.

    Hello ashmifromnolensville,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your Mac is only starting up to a grey screen with the Apple logo. I don’t want to have you complete troubleshooting steps that you have already completed, but for completeness sake, I would advise reading over the attached article and completing any suggested troubleshooting steps that you have not completed.

Im running Lion OS and I made update after it asks me to restart the iMac when i pressed restart it never boots again :S please help and how i can get my data back

  • My mackbook air won't start it shows the gray startup screen with a loading bar then just shuts down again how do I fix this?

All it displays is the gray loading bar like it is updating then it gets a quarter of the way through at which point the wait circle appears and the computer shuts down. I need to get my computer working for college again anyone have any suggestions. I did the hardware test an it shows me a -1007D

You probably have some type of hardware failure. The only people that can fix hardware failures are Apple or an authorized Apple repair center by replacing the part or parts that have failed. So you'll need to take the system into Apple to be diagnosed and repaired.

  • On an iMAC running OSX10.8.4, after a "sleep" it wakes to white screen, no response to any commands. Have to reboot. Any suggestions?

About half the time when I allow my iMAC to go into sleep mode it wakes to a blank white screen.  No sequence of commands will get it out of white screen. I have to re-boot from start and then it gives an error dialog box "you shut down because of a problem".  Is there a bug in 10.8.4, or am I missing something?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • White screen with black lemon-shaped blotches over purple "linen" like pattern on start-up

Computer was working without problem at shut down. When I tried to power up this AM I got a split scene (diagonal) with what may be best described as a jersey cow on the left and upper half of the screen and a light purple screen with green, black and vertical and horizontals lines. The lines show up on the white backgrouns also.  I have tried several restarts using both battery and power cord. I have also tried f10 depressed - no changes.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues, with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and issues a white screen with blotches on the startup screen. Try performing a hard reset.  When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.  I hope this helps you out.
    Thanks.
