Help, 27" iMac won't detect Epson projector

Hello,
I'm trying to connect a 27" to Epson projector via Mini Display to VGA adapter connected through VGA cable to the projector (that works fine with other pc)...the iMac doesn't detect it....
Thanks

This has been a big pain. I got the machine back, started it at the shop and it "seemed" ok. When I got it home, after 30 minutes or so, the same problems came back. Another call to applecare, and a new case number was issued to replace the hard drive. New HD in, got the machine home, and the mouse wouldn't work! I could move the cursor, but not select anything. Sometimes during the restarts I could select things, the next time I couldn't, sometimes I could on one user account and not on another. New call to applecare, new case number, many things tried, but ended up re-installing the OS. So far it seems to work okay, BUT there is something weird going on with Mail.
As soon as it is started it basically consumes all the system memory. I can watch the available memory disappear in activity monitor where it says Mail is using nearly 100% of the CPU. If I go in to preferences-advanced in Mail and disable the account, it stops eating up resources.
Any clues to what is going on??
thanks

  • My mid-2010 10.8.2 iMac won't detect external displays.

My mid-2010 10.8.2 iMac won't detect external displays. I've tried using a third-party minidisplay port to DVI adapter, as well as an Apple-brand minidisplay port to VGA adapter. The monitor I'm using is a Dell SP2008WFPt. It is a functional monitor. I've tried resetting the PRAM, repairing my disk permissions, rebooting, and doing all sorts of wacky stuff with the order I plug things in. Is there a solution? It seems like lots of folks are having the same problem.
Thanks! This is really starting to make me angry.

    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • IMac won't detect SD card

My iMac won't detect any SD card's. It doesn't seem to matter the size (2GB-16GB) or brand, it is just like I haven't inserted one. I have never used one with it before so it isn't from failing to "safetly remove hardware" and I have tried cleaning the slot (with air can)

Have you checked to see if the SD card reader is listed in system profiler? (apple menu, about this mac, more info button) it should be  listed under Hardware, under USB, it would be labeled some thing like "Internal Memory Card Reader".
If the card reader isn't listed:
Have you tried a NVRAM Reset?
Have you tried a SMC Reset?
If the card reader is listed, but your not seeing the inserted cards:
Have you checked to see if the cards are reconised in Disk Utility? (go to the dock, click on finder, go to the menu bar, click on the go menu, chose Utilties, double click on disk utility) Do you see the sd card listed?

  • My MBP won't detect a projector even when I reboot the system.

I can connect to a monitor, so I know the adapter and cable are working, and my old HP will connect to the projector so I know it's not the projector, but my MBP will not even detect that a projector is connected..  I have tried multiple projectors as well.  I am using a VGA cable with the apple adapter.  I have read old threads, but there doesn't seem to be anything recent, and it seems like people were able to find the projector after restarting the system.  I have tried all of the various displays sizes and colors; I have tried connecting the cables in various orders as one person said this worked for them, I have tried turning off the computer first, then connecting everything, I have tried connecting everything then restarting, but my computer just won't detect the projector(s).  Any thoughts?

You can ignore those instructions. Adobe has what I believe is an easier way to install Flash by using the manual installers. See the Adobe troubleshooting guide - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller

  • Imac won't detect external harddrives

i have never had this problem before. my iMac used to pick up on my WD passport and other HDDs. but for the past two days it won't detect anything. not even a thumb drive. help!?

Is it just storage devices, or all USB peripherals?
Try shutting down and disconnecting all of your USB peripherals, except for your standard keyboard and mouse. Disconnect any USB hubs. Restart the Mac and only connect one USB storage device directly to your iMac. Does that one device work? Try it on all the ports, if one does not work.
You can also try starting up in Safe Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
in case there is some non-Apple system extension that is interfering with USB storage devices.

  • IMac won't detect my Firewave

I just bought a Griffin firewave, and after following the instructions very carefully, my system won't detect it. The manual says to set it as my audio output using the Audio Midi Setup utility but it is nowhere in the list of devices. Has anybody had a similar problem?

I also just bought and installed a FireWave. The printed quick install instructions, which tell you to make all the physical connections and then install the included software, contradicted instructions on a sticker covering the Firewire ports on the back of the FireWave, which advise you to install the software before doing anything else. An e-mail to Griffin confirmed that the software must be installed prior to doing anything else.
My FireWave is up and running nicely, and I'm enjoying 5.1 surround sound on my iMac using the less expensive speakers I transferred from my PC.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help! Computer won't detect mic unless webcam is plugged in...

Has this happened to anyone else? I have 2 different headsets and my computer won't detect the microphone on either on unless the webcam is plugged in. It doesn't seem to have any problem with the speakers, but I can't use the mic until I plug in the webcam. Please help! This is really annoying!!
Oh, and I'm using Windows Vista, and the Live! Cam Notebook Pro (VF0400) with the headset that came with it and another headset (not a Creative headset).

hm... yes! you have same problem as me. I can't change to another mic till webcam is plugged. And this is due to the fact that the webcam has a built-in microphone inside. Moreover in my case, it must be another problem too, because the other person with who I talk hear sometimes a strong noise. I need to change microphone in the Skype options (I go to the Microsoft Microphone, even if it can hear nothing) and I go back on the mic of the cam. The noise disappear for some moments... after again and I do the same.Could someone help us?For me it would be nice to deactivate the mic of the cam and use an headset that doesn't give this noise problem.

  • IMac won't detect 27" cinema display?

I have a new iMac (as of June 1, 2011). I am trying to connect an Apple 27" display to use as dual monitors, but the iMac does not detect it. What am I doing wrong?

I have an old ADC Cinema Display which has been working fine with my new MBP 17" until I fired it up one morning and no display. There were no new software installs, etc. since lthe night when it worked and the morning when it didn't. The display and ADC/DVI adapter work fine on my tower so it's not the CD or cable. And another monitor works fine on the MBP so it's not the video card or the DVI jack. Also the USB functions on the back of the CD still work with the MBP and there is power - just no PIX. I've plugged and unplugged everything - power cycled - no results. Tried another MBP and no display. Still it powers the tower. Any ideas would be most appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • IMac won't detect airport extreme card

i just bought an airport extreme card for my 1.25 GHz G4 iMac. i have installed the card in my computer, but for some reason my computer hasn't detected the card.
i read some suggestions in other discussions, and have tried almost everything. i have reset my PRAM and run the apple hardware test. the card still has not been detected. i have also installed the latest software update for airport. still nothing. someone also suggested resetting the PMU, but i read up on that and don't see how that would help with an airport extreme card.
i'm wondering if maybe i didn't do a good job of installing the card. it seems easy enough, but after i inserted the card and attached the antennae, the card felt sort of loose in the slot. i don't know if it's supposed to be a tight fit or not. i pushed the card in until it go any father, but i didn't want to push it too hard for fear of breaking something.
    any suggestions?
    thanks.

  • Help! imac won't start up properly

I recently purchased a new macbook and yesterday I transfered all my data from my old imac g5 to my new macbook using the migration manager program. I have been using my macbook sucesfully ever since, but now whenever i try to turn on the g5 I get an error message along with a power symbol that says "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button" I'm very concerned and really can't loose data from this old computer. I've tried restarting the computer many times, and unplugging it as well as unplugging all the attached cords. Nothing works. Please help.
I'm worried that if i restart it using the startup disk i will loose information and i really can't have this happen.
Thanks so much for your help!

    To Apple Discussions!
"I get an error message along with a power symbol that says "you need to restart your computer."
Is this what you are seeing?
If so, you are having what is known as a kernel panic - What is a kernel panic? (Mac OS X)
    Other info to review:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106805 Mac OS X: "Broken folder" icon, prohibitory sign, or *kernel panic* when computer starts

You won't lose any info from starting from your System Install DVD. However, most people here recommend that you always have a backup.

  • HELP! iMac won't start up - launch_msg(): Socket is not connected

I've got an older 1.8GHz Intel iMac that I run as a server. The hard drive is partitioned into two volumes - one with 10.6.8 on it, and the other with Server 10.6.8. It was running fine until I restarted yesterday - I got the apple logo and the spinning progress wheel as though it was starting fine, but it just stayed like that forever. No problem, I'll just start up from the other partition, right? Wrong - same exact problem, no matter which partition I try to start from. When booting in safe mode verbose, the last message I see is "launch_msg(): Socket is not connected". I run disc utility and it finds no problems. Repair permissions finds some files in apple's help documentation that need fixing, which is done, but the problem persists.
I try to install a fresh system, but the system installer I have is OS 10.6.3, and it won't let me install over the "newer" 10.6.8 system. Argh!
I have an external USB hard drive, so I install a fresh system on that and am able to boot from it just fine. I rename the system and library folders on the internal drive so it won't recognize there's a system installed there. Then I'm able to do a fresh install of Server 10.6.3 on the internal drive. Installation goes fine, but guess what - when it reboots, the same problem still exists! Grey screen, apple logo, spinning progress wheel forever.
I'm about at wit's end here and would love some help!
The signs seem to be pointing to the hard drive being a problem, but disk utility finds no issues, and I'm able to copy files from it just fine. This is a 3TB hard drive that's less than a year old and was functioning just fine. I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't involve reformatting this beast.
    Any ideas appreciated! TIA.

It would be useful to know if you have a good backup of the important stuff on your HD. If not, its time to make one first. You should be able to do this using FW Target disk mode as suggested in my earlier post.
Deleting the iDvd plist file won't have been the cause of the problem, Rhthym.
Rather it sounds as if the computer is starting up in "single user" mode for some reason. (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106388 )
First try typing "exit" and hitting return, instead of "reboot".
If this doesn't fix it, I'd reset the PRAM (hold down the command option p r keys while starting up - not just restarting - the computer and wait for the chimes to sound three times ) - see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
The fact that the computer gets stuck at this point, and the password message, also hints at the possibility that a corrupted "Netinfo database" may be the problem. Netinfo is essentially the system that OSX uses to take you beyond the single user "unix" system that you are currently booting into. Replacing this involves playing around with some significant unix commands though, so its not recommended unless you feel confident with such things. You can find instructions on how to replace it at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107210
If you still can't start up normally you should consider doing an "archive and install" from the OS CD. It may be that another OS system file related to the boot process has become corrupted. Doing an archive and install will leave your data correct , but replace the OS. You will need to re-install any OS updates again though - see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270
If you contact Apple technical support tell them that the problem is that your computer is continually booting into "Single User mode".
    Cheers

  • HT1338 HELP! iMac won't recognize time machine backup!

My hard drive failed in my iMac 2.8 Intel Core i5. Luckily, I had a time machine backup on a usb hard drive. Also luckily, there was a free replacement available for my iMac because the Seagate hard drive in my iMac was prone to failure. I brought it to the Apple Store for a replacement, which took about a week. When I got home to restore my system from the backup, it won't see the time machine backup. It sees the drive but no backup is selectable. I know it is there because I updated my System software to the latest Mountain Lion and you can see the files on the backup drive, with dates for the backups and everything. It won't allow me to restore in Migration assistant or Recovery Mode or anything.
    HELP!!

Most likely, some files were inadvertently excluded from your backups, and as a result you won't be able to restore your data in Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant.
Starting from a fresh installation of OS X, set up a new administrator account and log in. Follow the instructions on this page to associate your existing backups with the new installation.
You should now be able to enter Time Machine and restore your user data from a snapshot.* I suggest you do this in two stages. Quit all applications except the Finder before you begin.
Restore all the visible items at the top level of your home folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Enter Time Machine and restore all items in the Library folder. Log out and log back in as soon as the restore is complete.
Any other invisible folders or files at the top level of your home folder that you want to preserve will have to be restored separately. For most users, that isn't necessary.
You'll have to reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, or restore them from another kind of backup, if you have one.
*If you don't see any snapshots in Time Machine, exit the time-travel view and then hold down the option key while selecting
    Browse Other Backup Disks...
from the Time Machine menu, which has an icon that looks like a clock running backwards. Select the backups of your computer by its previous name. If you don't have the Time Machine menu, open the Time Machine preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked
Show Time Machine in menu bar

  • Imac won't detect display

I plugged in a second monitor to my iMac with a VGA video adapter converter. When I try to detect it, using monitor preferences, it doesn't show up.  I tried it on my MacBook Pro and it worked fine.

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
