Help. all of my contacts are gone. can i get them back?

i dont know how they got lost. could be my 5 year old son or a bug.
i have tried to restart my touch.
have no backup file

How can all of my contacts be gone? I did not do anything.
I have tried to find how to delete all but can not find it.
I had my contacts last night. This morning my son watched a
movie and tonight it's all gone.

This is what it says under "iTunes will back up the following information":
Contacts* and Contact Favorites (regularly sync contacts to a computer or cloud service such as iCloud to back them up).
* Your contacts are part of the backup to preserve recent calls and favorites lists. Back up your contacts to a supported personal information manager (PIM), iCloud, or another cloud-based service to avoid any potential contact data loss.
Sounds like you may have experienced some of the "contact data loss". I suggest using iCloud in the future.

Are they still listed on your device when you go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Numbers? If so, they should still be in iCloud but you may need to contact support to find out why the Numbers app isn't able to access them: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

Here is the procedure for your reference, using iTunes 10.7. The procedure and screenshots for newer versions are contained in the above link.
This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Open iTunes and click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
Sign in with your Apple ID, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.

HELP! I've been using my iPhone consistently for ALL phone numbers, since I have serious memory problems due to fibromyalgia. I upgraded my phone last night finally, having moved my photos out of it I had the space to download and install the upgrade.
I got a nasty shock this morning when I tried to make a routine call and found ALL of my phone contacts missing. They don't seem to be either in the cloud or in the phone. What happened? It said it was storing them in the cloud but they're all gone! How can I get them back?
IF this normally happens, why should I ever upgrade? Seriously! I didn't think to copy all of it out manually before upgrading, I'd upgraded once before without any problems. Addresses and other details gone too. I've got four numbers in "Favorites" but no context for them beyond location by state. I don't even know who they are - can't recognize just the numbers.

If it backed up to my laptop, that died and I just got the new computer. The one that's crashed won't even boot, so there's no way to even tell if it was syncing the contacts along with all the phone photos. Literally happened at the same time - it was because I had the new computer that I was finally able to pull the photos off the phone and make room for the upgrade. It had refused to upgrade for lack of space for some time.
I had thought it was set to sync to iCloud but it vanished from BOTH my phone and the cloud. That's why I'm so angry about it.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. That is very unfortunate and a very poor decision - with no backup you are guaranteed to lose your photos sooner or later - this might be the time - for any possible help you will have to provide details
What version of iPhoto> Of the OS? what has recently changed? what do you think might have caused this? What exactly leads you to believe that your pictures have disappeared?
And I strongly recommend that you purchase a hard drive about 2 to 2 1/2 times the size of our main drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and start running TimeMachine ASAP

All of the notes in my Contacts dissapeared. How do I get them back??!! I rebooted my phone. Also, although my iPhone 4S is marked in settings to back up my contacts to iCloud, there were NO contacts saved...now what...?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Open your library with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:
Go the the Masters folder and check inside its subfolder to see if the original files are in there. If not then your photos are gone. If the original files are in those sub folder do the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

TS1347 so i updated my iphone to ios 7 and its deleted 400 of my contacts and i can't get them back ***!!!

i recently updated my iphone 4s to ios7, and it has now deleted 400 of my contacts not impressed. theres no way i can get them back now this is the last updated i will be doing through apple, and probably the last apple product i will ever own lol. It generally happens every time you update a whole number. For instance, updating from iOS 5 to 6, from iOS 4 to 5, from iOS 3 to 4, and so on.
That's why Apple strenuously suggests that you back up your information. And why they provide two ways to back up your information, so that way if you lose it (by updating or restoring your device) you can get it back using either iTunes or iCloud.

If they really meant that much to you, they would have been copied off to a computer at the earliest possible opportunity.
I personally find it amazing that people get so upset when pictures "accidentally" get deleted and then scream about how important they are. You wouldn't leave important paper work lying around to be lost/damaged/stolen, so why take a chance with important pictures on a device that can so easily be lost/damaged/stolen, or deleted by a child.
