Help Apply Patch to Oracle 11g

Hello!
Currently I have a single stand alone server (RHEL 5.8 Linux) running Oracle 11.2.0.1. I'm being told that the latest patch level is 11.2.0.3. I would like to get my current production database patched / updated to the latest version so I was told to do a "Out-of-place" manual upgrade from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3. In generic online tutorials and documentation, here is what I did. Currently my $ORACLE_HOME on Linux is:

/oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1
I've downloaded the 1st two zip files for 11.2.0.3. I'm told that this will basically be a fresh / new installation of Oracle 11.2.0.3 on my server but installing in a new directlry structure or $ORACLE_HOME.
So I create the following new $ORACLE_HOME path on my existing production server:
/oracle/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
Here I extracted the 1st two .ZIP files for 11.2.0.3. Once the two files were successfully extracted, I now had a sub-sirectory called $ORACLE_HOME/database and in this new 'database' folder I see the 'runInstaller' script to kick off the OUI (Oracle Universal Installer).
I walked through the failrly straight forward installer process and it said it completed successfully but now I'm confused on how or what methods do I need to take to migrate the data from my current $ORACLE_HOME to the newly created one. I know virtually nothing about Oracle 11g database systems but I'm eager to learn. I've used Google for most of my help with the exeption of some other forums. Can someone please help me with the correct / best way to finish the upgrade? So far I just installed Oracle over again on the same server just under a new folder path. The database listener and everything is still pointing to the 11.2.0.1 installation. I'm guessing I either have to use RMAN backupset from the 11.2.0.1 and recover it to the 11.2.0.3 install or perhaps there's some kind of migration step(s) / process.
Sorry if this seems very basic or well documented for most but I couldn't find any info and or perhaps the lingo was over my head. I appreciate any supprt and or info in helping me. If you can, please note that this is my production server and it's an Enterprise stand-alone database server so if I need to take the database down or offline, please be specific in the steps needed as I have NEVER done anything like this before. I do have daily backups that I run manually using RMAN but I'd like to avoid using those at all cost unless it's required.

Hi Carl,
If you want to have your current database 11.2.0.1 to be upgraded in out of place.
first being safe is better take a backup of the current database.
As you have installed software 11.2.0.3 in out of place from previous home directory,
Now using DBUA you can upgrade your database.

Apply Patches on Oracle Database with Logical Standby Database

Here I am:
I got a primary database with a logical standby database running Oracle 11g. I got two client applications, one is the production site pointing to the primary one, another one is just a backup site pointing to the logical one.Things will only be written into the primary database every mid night and client applications can only query the database but not add, update nor delete.And now, I want to apply the latest patch on both of my databases. I am also the DNS administrator, I can make the name server pointing to the backup site instead of the production one.I want to firstly apply the patch on the logical one, and then the physical one.
I found some reference which explains how to apply patches by adopting "Rolling Upgrade Method". however, I want to avoid doing any "switch over" mentioned in the reference because I can make use of name server. Can I just apply patches as the following way?
1)Stop SQL apply
2)Apply patches on logical standby database
3)let the name server point to the backup site
4)Apply patches on the primary database
5)Start SQL apply
6)Let the name server point back to the production site

Help with Patch 20485724 - Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patch Set Update 12.1.0.2.3 (Apr2015)

Two issues.
First, the readme for 20485724 states need OPatch 12.1.0.1.6 or greater. After installing OPatch 12.1.0.1.7, there is no opatchauto in the OPatch directory that was unzipped. Cannot apply patch without opatchauto.
Second, attempted to apply patch with OPatch version 12.1.0.1.3 and receive the following error: Patch Collection failed: /opt/oracle/patches/20485724/20299023/etc/config/actions.xml (No such file or directory). The file exists but is one directory lower at /opt/oracle/patches/20485724/20299023/20299023/etc/config/actions.xml
Please advise.

Need help: Silent install of oracle 11g express edition does not install services. As a result, i'm unable to start\launch database

Help on pivoting in oracle 11g

I trying build a dynamic report with unlimited rows and columns. So I have 3 tables. The first table has report names mean while the second and the third tables have rows and columns information respectively.

1 purchase
2 vendor

rowid rowname reportid
1 soap 1
2 shampoo 1
--table for report columns
colid colname reportid
1 liquid 1
2 kids 1
From those tables, I want to have a result like:
rowname liquid 1 kids 2

How do I obtain this kind of result using pivot in oracle 11g? If I can have, end users have to enter some values to the soap and liquid row, soap and kids rows,... Then I have to execute some query getting new values and column id.

some,many, most reports join two or more tables.
How does this design support joining tables required for reporting against more than 1 table?
some,many,most reports contain computed values like SUM(), COUNT(), etc.
Are you conceding that none of your reports will contain any of these values?

Apply patch during oracle upgrade

Hi Folks
I`m upgrading 10G databases to 11.2.0.3. Right now we have installed the 11.2.0.3 software on the severs. We have downloaded PSU, which converts present 11.2.0.3.0 to 11.2.0.3.3.
Here`s my question.
The pre-requisite to apply this patch is that opatch version of db has to be in 11.2.0.3.
I checked my opatch version in some 10G databases, it is with 10.2.0.4.0. How can I apply new patch as my patch version is only 10.2.0.4.0.
New environment variables will be set to 11.2.0.3 during applying patch. But how to convert 10.2.0.4.0 patch to 11.2.0.3.0, so that I can apply my new patch.

You will need to install the latest version of OPatch on the 11.2.0.3 OH, then apply the PSU - see MOS Doc referenced above

Error importing with impdp after applying a patch for oracle 11g

Hello guys,
I recently unistalled all the oracle software with my database in order to start all fresh. I then installed the database and applied a patch from the version 11.1.0.6.0 to 11.1.0.7. I used the DBUA to do such a thing and it worked wonderfully.
I'm now trying to do a full import but it seems there's something wrong with the connection. Below is the syntax and am using Windows 7 BTW.

You may be right about not using the sysdba to logon but just changed it...am still having the same issue though.

Expdp full and impdp full fails with error....pls help..!(Oracle 11g)

Only thing worked for me is impdp on network mode using remap schema.
1)First i wanted to implement expdp and impdp standard procedures(Full database export/import)

Job "SYSTEM"."SYS_IMPORT_FULL_01" stopped due to fatal error at 13:39:48So its basically these 2 issues I want to know how to fix.
1-expdp error cause and fix
2-impdp error cause and fix -Also how to avoid object alreay exists error?
Also for example the package etc. is the same name..but i want new package from LIVE so it means if the same name package, view, etc is there, it wouldnt get updated?
Any way to overcome this?
I need it exactly same as LIVE...(with a few exceptions which is small enough i can do after impdp finishes fine)

Thanks for the links..I applied the tips on each of them but it didnt work.
Also my database is 11g so it is not true that this happens on 10g only.
Things tried:
1)I tried with different values on parallel parameter but same error
2)I applied the following:
alter system set open_cursors=1024 scope=spfile;
alter system set "_optimizer_cost_based_transformation"=off;
commit;
The 3rd link was bit better
I tried to find out where exactly the error was causesusing
expdp attach =SYS_EXPORT_FULL_03
But I cant figure out what the object : PUBLIC
oracle/context/isearch/GetPage
is..?
Does this needs to be excluded from the export?if so, how?
Can someone help how to fix the error now?

Am trying to apply R12 CUP 2 patch in linux.
While applying am getting the following error.

Hello
See the logfiles adwork001.log to adwork004.log. The last lines show the errors ocurred. The best thing to do is to open an SR with Support sending those error messages.

I have Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1.0) version installed on my Windows 2000 Server. I am applying the patch for 9.2.0.7.0. Is there any serious bugs reported with this patch? I would like to know whether any documentation available to use for applying this patch other than the one provided by Oracle.

as we can use ad_bugs, ad_applied_patches, OAM Applied Patches for Oracle Applications Patches list
and we can use opatch lsinventory for Oracle Database patches applied list

NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.3.0 - Production
I want to update the patch.
Oracle 11g database can we update patch directly from 11.2.0.3.0 to 11.2.0.4.0?
Is any impact on the database?

11.2.0.4 is nothing but a patchset of 11.2.0.3, in-place upgrade is allowed :

"You cannot install the new software into the same location for Oracle home as your current release, unless you are installing an Oracle Database 11g patchset release. For a patchset release, you can use the same Oracle Database 11g Oracle home."
And since it's a patchset, a direct upgrade is ok.
Lastly, yes, every upgrade has an impact (e.g. perf.), it has to be tested.
