Help asap - LR tiff export 3X larger than Photoshop tiff export

I need to send 15 tiff files through an FTP site for an upcoming exhibit, and having exported files to the required specs find that they are huge, compared to exports straight from Photoshot set to exactly the same parameters - almost 3X larger to be exact. These are 16-bit grayscale scans of 4X5 negs.
I could export each one directly from Photoshop of course, but I like the look of the files, which I have altered slightly using the develop settings in Lightroom 2.
What to do? There are tight deadlines, of course. I should get these out tomorrow if possible.

Jan,
Lightroom can only export greyscale images as RGB (3 channels), hence the file being 3 times larger than Photoshop. However, you can use the Edit in Photoshop command (Ctrl/Cmd+E) to send the Lr edited greyscale file to Photoshop, convert it back to greyscale (single channel) then save it from there.

Hmm, I think the issue is you trying to do everything in pixels, then changing the ppi. Which is playing havoc with what you want to do. Set the ppi to 72, then it should be fine. Only work with ppi when you are creating for print. For screen and the web, the ppi is irrelevant.

  • Exporting from InDesign to PDF, and the updated PDF is larger than a month ago and not printing easily on letter paper, it is PDF presets?

    Hello,
I am exporting from InDesign to a PDF and the page is larger in the PDF then others I have exported. Is this because of the PDF presents? One of the project managers is not able to print it out on 8.5 x 11 paper, but the document presets for InDesign are the same as before. I wish I could upload the PDFs to show, but the newly exported PDF is larger than the version I created a month ago. I created a PDF binder and the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets. Any thoughts?

I suspect the project manager simply has his/her copy of Reader/Acrobat set to print at actual size, rather than "Fit" (assuming the InDesign page size is truly 8.5 x 11).
..the newly updated PDF is almost a .5 inch wider with the same export presets.
It would have nothing to do with export presets. How are you determining that half-inch difference?

  • Exporting a jpg is 3 times larger than CS3

Clearly I'm missing some setting - I'm opening jpgs that had been created with FW CS3 and immediately saving it (for troubleshooting purposes). Optimize Quality is set to 75 | Smoothing 2. The file is fully 3 times larger than it was prior to save. I've exported instead of the straight Save and have the same result. I've lowered the Quality to 60 to make sure I was invoking the compressor ... the file lost 2k.
So a 260x83 bitmap moves from an acceptable 5k to 17k (or 15 with unacceptable compression level)?
Can't be right. Not even Adobe could have mucked up FW this badly.

Not too certain about this, but the increase in file size might be due to additional meta data in the file - that easily adds ~10kb to the file, so it might explain what you are seeing. But as far as I am aware, the save for web functionality in FW should remove meta data.
Use RIOT (radical image optimization tool) (win) or ImagOptim (mac) to check if this is the case or not, and remove the meta data.

Can anyone provide advice for large file handling tips.  Help for illustrator file larger than 3 gb ie how often, when, and should I clear the clipboard? are here other tips?

My key tip is to EXPECT corruption. Keep every save separately so you can go back before damage (which might not be visible). Don't just keep a single old file or rely on daily backups.

  • Aperture exports jpeg files larger than original RAW files

Can anyone tell me why a RAW file (10.6mb), when exported as a jpeg (10.8mb) from Aperture ends up larger than the original RAW file. The same RAW file when opened and then saved as a jpeg (6.4mb) in Photoshop is a lot smaller. The photo dimensions and resolution are the same in both saved files (34.5mb open file 300dpi 4256 x 2831 pix). I have tried this on several photos, all with similar results. For information I am saving the photos in both Photoshop and Aperture at 300dpi, original size and at a quality setting of 12. In these examples/tests I have done no work to the photos, obviously the file sizes increase after work has been carried out on the photos (in both Ps & Aperture)
Almost doubling the size of saved jpegs has a massive implication on my library and may be one reason to consider Adobe Lightroom as this gives similar jpeg file sizes as Photoshop, i.e. almost half the size of the original RAW file
Reducing the quality setting on saved jpegs is an obvious way to reduce file size, but not answering the question of the considerable discrepancy when saving to the same quality in different software
Is this a feature of Aperture and nothing can be done about it ? I would prefer to use Aperture but cannot cope with the large jpeg sizes !
Any comments would be much appreciated - thank you
    Nick

Think you might be right Allen - The 12 quality saved jpegs seem to be pretty high quality, closer to the original than maybe the files saved in Ps at quality 12. I have just run an identical set of processing actions on all the files in Photoshop and the jpegs previously saved in Aperture at 12, 11 and even 8 quality settings seem to be better than the same files saved at 12 in Ps
Bizarrely the file size drops from 10.6mb at quality setting 12 in Aperture, to 3.2mb when saved just one notch down at quality setting 11 in Aperture. That is a massive drop, esp considering the next one down, saving at quality 10 results in a 2.8mb file
rw just ran some checks and tests on the file export settings and file sizes in Aperture, on a file I sent him, and we get the same results. So at least my version of Aperture is not up the wall !!
Would be useful to have the explanations from Apple as to the vast variance in settings and file sizes, but I guess we will just have to keep guessing - and buying more and more hard drives for all the large files
I am considering keeping the RAW originals in future, and I suppose in this case I need only save smaller jpegs, and issue at whatever size they are needed at the time - just needs a bit of planning to look after an ever increasing collection, which is about to have two sets of images added at a time now. Added to the already amassed 80 000 images at last count !)
    Thanks

  • EMac desktop is larger than the screen / display ????? Help

My oldest mac, an eMac 1 Ghz G4, 640 mb SDRAM, running 10.4.11 has had a screen display problem for months now. The graphics card is ATI Radeon 7500 (CRT - 1280 x 960 @ 72 Hz, 32 bit, no core image supported). It is over 7 years old.
The desktop is larger than the screen, so it is a hassle to constantly have to move the desktop around.
I'm not sure what it started after.
I have tried changing all the display resolutions, colors and freq to no avail. I also re-calibrated the screen without change. Updates to 10.4 have not changed it.
Is the graphics cards failing ?? There is no distortion or lines on the screen. The kids can still play games on it fine.
    ANY thoughts ??

This is a real long shot, but is Zoom by chance turned on in the Universal system preference? If so, turn that off and see if that makes a difference.
If not, you can try resetting PRAM (restart the system and hold down the p, r, command and option keys until the system gives its startup chime a second time) and see if that does anything useful.
If neither of those possibilities help, I'll have one other suggestion, so post back and let us know.
    Regards.

  • Lightroom JPEG files far larger than equivalent Photoshop files?

I'm using Lightroom 2.3 on a Mac. If I take an image and export it from Lightroom as a JPEG at the 60 quality setting, the resulting JPEG is typically around 2-3 times larger than the same file saved from Adobe Photoshop CS3 using the High Quality setting in 'Save for Web and Devices'.
Lightroom does not appear to be generating a preview or anything else that would account for the disparity.
To get Lightroom to shrink files down to the sizes that Photoshop produces, I need to reduce the quality to a level at which the images contain glaring JPEG artifacts.
I'd like to use Lightroom as part of my web workflow, but this is pretty much a showstopper. Exporting to TIFF, then using Photoshop batch actions to try to automate a conversion to JPEG runs into the problem that Photoshop's "Save for Web and Devices" command can't be fully automated (it's not possible to override the save location).
    So my questions are:
    1. Why is Lightroom's JPEG compression so poor in comparison to Photoshop's?
    2. Is there any way to get around this?
    3. Is it safe to use Photoshop's standard 'Save as ...' command in place of 'Save for Web and Devices' when preparing images for the web (I have a distant memory that 'Save As ...' used to export metadata that would choke certain browsers, but I don't know if that's still true in CS3).

It looks as if metadata contributes about 4-8K to the image. Photoshop is stripping a large part of the metadata (even with 'include XMP' on), which contributes to the difference, but doesn't explain it completely.
    Here are some test results:
    Test Image #1: 660 x 440:
    Lightroom 2 (60, with metadata) - 170,904 bytes
    Lightroom 2 (60, without metadata) - 164,142 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (60, no metadata) - 141,489 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (30, no metadata) - 72,394 bytes
    Test Image #2: 660 x 440 (no metadata)
    Lightroom 2 (70) - 124,231 bytes
    Lightroom 2 (60) - 88,448 bytes
    Lightroom 2 (60) - 80,560 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (Save for Web 70) - 94,032 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (Save for Web 60) - 69,654 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (Save for Web 30) - 32,287 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (Save 8) - 93,517 bytes
    Photoshop CS3 (Save 7) - 73,067 bytes
However, there's a quality difference to be taken into account as well. Photoshop 60 is about equivalent to Lightroom 70.
To compare the images, I took the original image (scaled to 660 x 440 by Lightroom) and layered the JPEG over it, then set the layer to 'Difference' to reveal JPEG compression artifacts. Lightroom at quality level 60 shows visible artifacts; Photoshop Save for Web at level 60 does not. To get the artifacts to disappear, I have to take Lightroom up to about 70, by which time the Lightroom files are almost twice the size of the Photoshop files.
Just for amusement, I tried Graphic Converter as well. GC is a great program, but its JPEG conversion turns out to be vile: even at a quality setting of 100, the artifacting on fine near-vertical lines is obvious to the naked eye.
Using Photoshop's own 'Save' (rather than 'Save for Web') command yields similar results. quality level 8 in 'Save' appears to be fractionally poorer than quality level 60 in 'Save for Web'.

  • Objects outside of workspace show in SWF... Need help ASAP!

When I export a flash movie (.swf file)And play it on full screen, the objects that are outside of the workspace show. Can anyone tell me how to fish this problem? need help ASAP! Thanks :]

If what follows isn't sufficient for you to figure out, you'll have to spend some time learning how to work with Flash.  While you'll often get help solving problems in these forums, it's less likely you will get tutoring services.  Google is a very good resource for tutorials.
To create a mask you draw a shape to the size you want and place it on a layer above all the content you want to mask.  A mask is actually not well named because masks normally hide things, while in the graphics world, masks define the are where things are shown... so when you apply a mask to something, only what is under the mask shows.  To finalize, you right click on the label area of the mask's layer and select Mask from the menu that appears.  You may have to drag lower layers up towards the mask layer to get them included, whicxh is why I mentioned creating the rest of the content as a movieclip (a single layer object).
To control the visibility of objects you set their visibility to true or false (AS2: mcName._visible = true (or false),  AS3:mcName.visible = true (or false)).
To create a frame around the stage, add a new layer atop everything and draw a rectangle big enough to hide all the content you don't want showing that is off the stage.  Then draw a rectangle that is the same size as the stage on top of that first rectangle, placing it over the stage, and then deselect anything that is selected.  Then reselect the smaller rectangle you just drew and delete it.  The larger rectangle is now framing your stage.

    Hi all,
have tried all above command but when i did a check it didnt work that well. What i ended up with is following script:
    $MBX = Get-Mailbox –resultsize unlimited
    $MBX | foreach {New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox $_.Identity -ContentFilter {Size -gt '25MB'} -FilePath ('\\server01\pst\ ‘ + $_.Alias + '(' + $_.DisplayName + ').PST')}
Downside with this script is that it export all mailboxes to a pst file.Inside its structure of users folder.
Upside is that it only export mail items that are larger than 25 MB,but you will need to create a search folder to find  items larger than 25mb.
Most of pst files that are exported are less than 2mb in size.So we sorted them by size and delete everything that is less than 25MB.
We then ended up with all mailboxes that have items larger than 25MB.
So if you have over 5000 mailboxes then this wont be recomended. We had over 1200 and the export went fine over night.
Amits recomendation also probably works, but havent tested that one.
    THanks all for your help!

  • The estimated project size is larger than the target media chosen

I am at a loss for trying to author a project using Adobe Encore.  I first tried to author the project using version CS2.  When attempting to export I received the following message:
"The estimated project size is larger than the target media chosen.  While this is an estimate, the project may fail to build."
I have authored hundereds of projects in the past, but have never received that message before.  I first thought that the problem was with the version of Encore I was using, but I received the exact same error when trying to author the project with Encore CS5.
The project itself has one menu, a motion menu, and one video file.  The video file last 152 minutes, and I was attempting to export that to a dual layer DVD.  I have since tried exporting the file using Adobe Premier CS5.5 using a variety of settings.  I am trying to export it to a DVD-2 file, with the match soure attributes being set to the highest setting.  The setting on the main concept MPEG encoder is set to 5. I have tried exporting the file using both constant and varaible bit rates.
When I recently exported the file using a contant bit rate of 6.5, I still had 650.4 MB remaining on my Encore project.  I still received the same error about the project size, and so I am thinking that something else is wrong.
I have even exported the video file as an uncompressed AVI file, and then tried encoding it again using both Adobe Premier CS5.5 and the Adobe Encoder.  I still get the same error message about file size.
Any help and/or suggestions about how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Using the Imgburn product worked! It also helped me figure out what the real problem was...
As it turns out, some single-layer DVDs had been mixed in with my dual-layer DVDs. I feel very foolish about this.  All of my discs are printable, and so there is no indication written as far as what their capacity is on them.
Encore can be a bit vague in identifying a problem such as this. For example, I can set the settings to plan for a dual-layer disc, and it will display a graphical status indicator with that capacity in mind. When I saw the original file message error I honestly believed that there was a problem with the encoded file instead of the type of disc itself.
Imgburn instantly displayed the discrepancy in the type of disc I had loaded and the needed capacity for the type of project that I was trying to create.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • Exchange 2013 - powershell - create search folder for items larger than 24mb

    Hi all,
is it possible to use PowerShell and create search folder in spesific mailbox that contains items larger than 25mb?
    Thanks!
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Off2work

    Ok this should be possible.
I just tested a basic idea of what you want to do on Exchange 2010 SP3. IF you need me to test on 2013 let me know.
Add the account you want to run the powershell search as to the "Discovery Management" role in AS or ECP.
This gives you access to the "search-mailbox" command. Using this you should be able to build a search that moves mail to a different folder.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dd298173(v=exchg.150).aspx
    Thanks,
Edit: something like this would help but the target mailbox would be there own I guess
Search-Mailbox -SearchQuery “Size:>25MB” -TargetMailbox SomeMailbox -TargetFolder Export -LogOnly -LogLevel Full
Ok so I have found a issue where the command does not allow the source mailbox to be the same as a target mailbox. I dont know if this will help you then unless you go through a long process of moving the mail out then back but thats very long.
You could create a rule for this but it would have to be run manually with specific settings so I guess that might not work as user training can be difficult.
You could write a VBA macro for this and then apply it to all you machines.
Or there is a 3rd party tool that could help you called
    Auto-Mate
Sorry I could not be more helpful.
    Good luck

  • Print the report on page has width larger than height and not landscape mode

    Hi,
I'm trying to print report on page (Width: 18cm, Height: 13cm) which the width larger than the height.
The problem is windows keeps changing the page oreintation to landscape and when I change it back to portrait its changing the width to 13cm and height to 18cm.
I'm using dot matrix printer to print the report, if i put Landscape , printer is printing the text in horizontal.
Already i have tried to setup the custom for on printer, and used custom page size but it is changing to landscape.
I need to print the report with out preview, direct print top printer, NO PDF....
    Thank you .....

    Hi Anil,
After testing the issue in my environment, I can reproduce it. When I set (Width: 18cm, Height: 13cm) as the Report Page size, it would automatically convert Orientation from Portrait to Landscape. Because the Orientation displayed is dependent on the page
width and page height of the report.
But in my scenario, the Orientation option just change the Width and Height sizes, it couldn’t affect the text rotation. I guess this issue can be caused by the printer and printer driver, please try to update them. Reference:
