HELP: Failure flashing BIOS using Live Update 5

Hi,
I used Live Update 5 to download the latest BIOS version for my MB. Then when I was running the update, I chose "". (I know it's incorrect and I should have chosen the other one.) After the update, the machine restarted and showed a cursor blinking on the top left on a black screen, and it wouldn't proceed any more. I can enter the BIOS without a problem. I can also boot from CD or USB, but the windows on my machine simply wouldn't boot.
After the problem arose, I have tried flashing the BIOS with the MSI Forum HQ USB Flashing tool on this forum. It tells me that  but the same problem remains.
What should I do now?
Thanks for your time and consideration!

After any flash, the battery should be removed for awhile and the CMOS cleared. Reset all your BIOS menu settings again making sure the boot order etc. is correct and the proper mode is selected that your OS was installed under, i.e. IDE or AHCI mode.

  • [Solved] GT70 Registers as GE70 / Used live update 5

    Hello everyone!
So I have a GT70 notebook, and when I register it on the MSI website, the product name says: GE70 0ND.
    The serial number says GT70-0NDXXXXX....
So my question is: is my GT70 a hidden GE70? Does it matter? Are they the same and do they have the same drivers?
Also, I have another question: I used Live Update 5 a while ago, but now I saw the disclaimer, saying that it's not for notebooks...:( What do I do? How do I get rid of the drivers? Also, is there something like Live Update for notebooks aswell?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi 14Died14,
For the registration problem, think it's better to contact MSI and ask them to check of your registration.
        http://register.msi.com/
As you known Live Update 5 is not for notebook and the fastest way to uninstall all the drivers you installed by using live update is to do system reset and re-install all the drives. Sadly you'll have to download all the drivers and update them one by one. I'll strongly recommend you to re-install the drivers since there might be some unknown issues pops up if you're using the drivers from live update.
Which OS are you currently using?

  • CAUTION : DO NOT USE LIVE UPDATE OR WINFLASH TO UPGRADE THE BIOS!

    Hello,
I've been having trouble with my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard a few weeks now.
My system configuration is not heavy at all and consists of
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum nForce3 Ultra
    AMD64 Venice (E6) 3200+
    2 x 512Mb DDR400 Geil RAM 2.5-2-2-5 in dual channel configuration
    VGA ASUS 9600XT/128/TVD
    SB Audigy Value
    1 x HDD Maxtor 200GB 7200rpm
    1 x DVD-RW Pioneer 107D
    PSU Addtronics 420W (12V 18A)
    2 case fans 12cm
    2 USB devices (Joysticks)
    Here are the facts:
    1. The system was working great from mid-July until mid-September.
    2. I always close down the PSU power when turning off the computer at night (when I turn it off) in order to have come protection over our crappy power service.
    3. One morning, when trying to turn the PC on, I followed the normal procedure I did each time. PSU ON, waiting a few secs, Power button ON.
That morning, the PC did not boot.  The monitor still displayed 'No Signal' but I could hear the fans working.  I was ready to leave for work so I just shut it down to
investigate after work in the afternoon.
    4. To my surpice, and without doing anything at all, when I tried to turn it on that evening it fired up just fine!!!!
    5. A couple of days later, same thing. No boot, no post, no video signal.  This time I had the time so I started investigating:
Checking the D-Bracket at the back it was Red-Red-Red-Green, which I found out from the manual meant 'Initilization of VGA'... I thought my VGA just died,
so I shut down the PC, removed the power, took out the 9600XT and put in an older nVidia Ti4200 VGA I had spare.
    6. The system fired up normally!!!  Ok, I say... The VGA must be the problem.   Let's test it. I installed the 9600XT on another PC and it worked fine!
Oh... So it's not the VGA at fault!
    7. Once again I replaced the Ti4200 back to my prefered 9600XT.  Pushed the power... No good... No post, no boot, no video...
8 Replaced 9600XT with the Ti4200... Everything worked!.... I started to get worried. WHY doen't the ATI card works and the nVidia does ?
Consiracy theory immediately crossed my mind.
    9. I have spend more than a month to find the cause of this.  I posted to this forum for help, but best suggestion was to replace my PSU as not enough.
420W not enough for a bare minimum PC?  I mean.. Come on!?!?!?... I calculated with the proposed PSU calulator what I needed and I would be fine
even with a 350W PSU and 12A on the 12V rail!.  I had 18A... And some recommended to get a PSU with 30A on 12V !!!!!
That means that I had to spend another 150Euros to get a new PSU while it was not needed!??!  In brief.. yes.
The problem was elsewhere as I found out.
Searching and reading in this forum I found out that a lot of people have the same problem as I did.  Most of them indeed had weak PSUs and needed
more power.  But there were a few that should be fine.
What I found common to all those cases was that there was either an ATI Radeon VGA or an nVidia 6800 involved!
And in almost all the cases the user did a bios upgrade just before the problem started.
Well, that it!... the BIOS upgrade.  I tried to remember and finally did, that I started having these problems after I used the LiveUpdate function to update
the BIOS of the motherboard to 1.9 and once again to 1.b.   But both times I did it from within windows using the winflash utility and the default options.
It seems that the default options did not flash the whole bios.  They left out the boot section.  As a result the system booted ok with the nVidia Ti4200,
an older generation card, but NOT with the ATI 9600XT which was newer generation.
What I did is to reflash the bios using a startup floppy and following the instructions found here : https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=86257.0
After the setup boots etc, I powered down the PC, replaced once again the Ti4200 with the required 9600XT and the system power up and booted fine!
It's running rock stable since then (48hrs already), but I have yet to see if the problem will appear again, as it only happened from a cold boot and not
during a restart or anything.  I hope it will be ok.
So, I'm writting this as a warning.
Take caution and do not upgrade your BIOS from within windows. It's better to spend a couple more minutes to prepare a start up floppy and upgrade
from there, that to have problems later.

    George D.

Load your bios off the hardrive. <-------FAIL SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Not true.
File read operation can fail mid-flash. I agree this is safer that running the exe off a floppy, but it is not as safe as flashing from a RAMDrive (as per JayBee), which doesn't rely on a read from any media across any kind of BUS. Plus the RAMDrive needs no such partition on the HD so why bother with the hassle?
Flash from RAMDrive is not fail safe either of course but when run on a PC with a UPS that's about as safe as anyone can get.

  • MBOX K9VGM-V after Flashing the BIOS successfully Live Update crashes system

I recently purchased a barbones computer with the K9VGM-V motherboard.  After installing all the drivers on the disk, updating Windows 2000 competely through Windows Update I decided to try Live Update.  The first thing I updated was my BIOS from Ver. 1.6 to 1.7.  The flash was completely successful.  However when I went back to Live Update(the latest version btw) the minute I executed the program my system completely crashed!  It was like I had hit the reset switch.  I decided to format my HD and reinstall everything.  The BIOS works fine and the system is entirely stable, but even after starting with a clean slate I tried the Online version of Live Update and the same thing happened.  My computer crashed and restarted itself.  This happened after the BIOS flash so it must be related to that.  I am just not sure how or why.  Any suggestions or input?

    Read Moan Guide
So you have crash only when trying to using LiveUpdate or? If yes just ignore it and do not use LiveUpdate

  • Z87-G41 PC Mate used Live Update 5 to update BIOS now no POST

I downloaded MSI's Live Update 5 and stupidly had it update everything. I was away from my desk while it ran and I heard the sound making crazy noises and the screen was dark so I manually powered down. Now when I boot up it won't post and I get nothing on the screen. I've tried to reset CMOS and I've stripped it down to just cpu and 1 stick of ram. Still no joy.

sounds like the BIOS on the board is Bricked!
one thing you could try is to put a USB stick in a black port while when you power it on and see if its attempting to access it! (If it is its not fully bricked and you need to make a USB flash drive with the BIOS file (ROM) on it and it will attempt a recovery)
if its doesn't work then you have 2 options!
1: RMA the board to MSI to be flashed back into working order
2: Find a shop near you that does SPI flash updates and have them Directly flash the BIOS chip!
So when I put a thumb drive in the back with the ROM, I can't really tell if it's trying to access it or not (no activity lights). What happens when I turn on the comp is that it will power on (no beeps) and after about 8 seconds it will power off, then restart. I generally turn it off at that point. I'll try putting the USB stick in and letting it run. It sucks because I get no video (tried onboard and GPU) so I can't really tell what's going on. Thanks for the info. I've already emailed MSI support to get a head start but I'm hoping I won't need to wait on them. I need my computer up and running for my side business.

  • Updated bios via Live Update and now my Network card isn't detected

I have an msi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard and I updated some drivers and the bios via msi Live Update 6 last night and now my computer refuses to recognize my network adapter. The adapter is a TRENDnet N600, plugs into PCIe if I'm not mistaken. Wifi if my only option with this computer, I can't use ethernet, so it's really important I get the network card working again. I have had zero issues with it until this.
The reason I was updating was to try to get my third monitor to work when plugged into the mobo, while my other two were plugged into the graphics card (which I also installed yesterday, but it's working fine). Note that it still was not working, but I had enabled the IGD Multi-Monitor from bios.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try uninstalling the drivers but it still won't detect the network card. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network card (and I cleaned the port for good measure).
I've only been using Windows computers for a year, so bear with me if there's stuff I don't know. Thanks in advance. I can try to get a full list of what was installed later tonight, but all of it that I can find has been uninstalled at this point.
Note: I did not flash the bios when I installed, which I have now heard is a bad idea, apparently. l:

    Hello
I am having trouble with the flash lite 2.0 update. I
installed the update sucessfully and restarted my system. When I
open flash(pro), there are no templates, api's, or emulators of the
flashlite 2.0 phones. Please let me know how I can fix this

    Welcome to the forum.
First thing that I would do would be to look at this Adobe KB Article to see if it helps.
Next, I would try the tips in this ARTICLE.
If that does not help, a Repair Install would definitely be in order.

how can i put this bios update on a flash drive , "Bios Update for Toshiba satellite l745d-s4230"

i use winflash all the time. and as jaybee said, its pretty safe as long as you turn off everything (except your PC of course )
and if somehow, the BIOS is corrupt, you can just DL a new one, reflash it and still be okay without ever having to reboot.
I beg to differ. When I had flashed my K8N Neo (7030) board to the now recalled 1.8 bios (in DOS), I tried to flash it to 1.9 beta using Winflash, following the instructions here on the forum to the very last point, and for me Winflash did not work. Not only did it fail to flash, it also failed to flash using several different bioses. So even though I was able to reflash without rebooting, it did not help me since no bios file worked.
My bios was corrupt and I had to order a replacement chip.
There is always the possible hardware fault (bad flash chip), but since it flashed successfully in DOS only a few days before, I see no reason to suspect the hardware.
My recommendation is therefore: *always* *always* *ALWAYS* use DOS when flashing.

  • Cannot update Bios through Live Update (Z77A-GD65)

I've been trying to update the Bios from A.00 to A.B0.  I've tried it a few times but when I scan for updates it will always say that my current Bios is A.00 and the online version is A.B0.  I'm trying to get this update in the hope that it will fix my problem installing my new Graphic Card.

Don't use LiveUpdate! If it tries updating your bios you have a high chance of bricking the board. Download bios versions from here or the product site and manually flash (and never in Windows).
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Download the compressed archive to your desktop but do not decompress.
Select option 1 of the forum flash tool and point the tool an the compressed archive then follow the direction. After booting from the prepared USB stick afterwards it will flash your bios and ME extension.
Once complete you will need to download and re-install the latest version of the Intel Management Engine Drivers.
