Help! I have lost all my iTunes info!

I have recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 installed on it. When I logged into iTunes, none of the previous music I had downloaded, or was on there, is on iTunes anymore. I thought I would just be able to log into my account, and my songs would all come up like usual, but nope. How do I transfer, or get my iTunes to be back the way it was, without having to purchase everything all over again?

Your music will not magically appear.
it will only be where you put it.
You buy one and only one download, just as you buy one cd from the store.
You need to move all of your music, and everything else for that matter, from your old computer or your backup copy of your computer to the new one.

Now remove all your info and update the old AppleiD/iTunes account and use only that account.
You cannot transfer items between iTunes accounts.
You can redownload all the content.

Try a hard reset:- hold the home button AND the power switch - ignore the red "Slide to power off" and wait ubntil the iPhone powers down, and then restarts - at the Apple logo, release all the buttons and see if your contacts reappear.

These devices will sync with one computer at a time. When you sync to a new one, then it will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy of your old computer to move everything over.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your devices. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
You will need to enter at least one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer as well, otherwise that content will be erased as well. If you have a unique entry, then you should get the option to merge the data.
Hopefully you have your backup copy of your old computer and will not have to go through this.

I am so unhappy, I bought my daughter a mac for her birthday and it is completely broken, she took it to the store in London, they told her it is corrupt, it won't turn on and she has lost all her business records and photos. I am her mum and not technical. It cost me so much for her birthday what on earth do I do now. They said she has to fix it herself!!!!!

And does she have current backups of all her important files?
Operating a business with a computer and not keeping current backups is a very dangerous thing to do. Hard drives can fail at any time. Experienced IT people will tell you there are two kinds of hard drives - those that have failed and those that are going to fail. The only question is when.

Help! PowerBook G4 failed, rebooted but I have lost all my iTunes files!

I have an old PowerBook G4. I dropped it this morning by accident and it stopped working. I got it to switch on again and got to the Darwin/BSD page. I followed the advice below:
Start up in Single User Mode and type carefully:
/sbin/fsck -y
Repeat the above until it says your disk is OK. Then:
/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /var/db/netinfo
mv local.nidb/ local.nidb.bad
ls -ln /Users
This last command will give you one line for each user, plus one for the "Shared" directory, which doesn't interest us. Each user will have a line like one of these:
drwxr-xr-x 29 501 501 986 Jan 17 18:38 michaelc
drwxr-xr-x 14 520 20 476 Sep 10 2004 jdoeThe second numeric field (501, 520) is the user ID (UID) and you need to list the uids against the shortname s given in the final column. Make sure you get the name right for UID 501! Then continue with

I had to add new details once it had rebooted and it looks like i's created a new profile. I have the files that were on the HD (photos - phew) but all my music files have gone.
Any idea how to get them back please?

Download a copy of EasyFind (free) and use it to search. It would be really unusual for a folder to go missing so selectively while everything else survived on a drive. Dropping a drive doesn't shake files loose. You posted a lot of instructions somebody had provided but how much of that did you actually need to do?

It is possible you had some sort of directory damage and the files still exist on the drive but the computer has lost track of them. Try file recovery software.

Easiest method: If you dragged these to the trash did you empty the trash? If not simply double click on it to open it and drag the file out again.
Next easiest method: Copy the file off a backup drive.

However, their space is marked as available to any other file creation done on the computer (even done by you booting the computer) and there is risk that your files will be overwritten by the computer.

If you manage to rescue the files you should seriously consider getting a backup drive. A $100 drive will cost less than replacing a substantial iTunes library since Apple does not provide for a second download for free.

Help! I lost all my iTune musics...

My laptop was recently stolen and all my musics were in there as well. I still have my iPod with all the musics in there. I'm afraid once I hook it to my new computer (w/o any music) it's gonna have all the musics in iPod erased.
Does anyone know if there's a way to tranfer music FROM iPod TO computer? Or it only goes the other way around? This is so bad...

I got all my musics back onto a new iTune software I installed on my new laptop. However, whenever I hook my iPod onto the computer, iTune would display a message that says: my iPod is linked to another iTune library, do I want to change the link to your current iTune library and replace all existing songs.
And every time I click "Yes", iTune just freezes. What can I do? Help!

Help - I have lost all my data on iPhone!

I have had my iphone for 2 years and have never updated the software or backed up the data by syncing - I am not great with technology! My husband connected my iPhone to itunes last night to update my software and this has deleted all my data on my iphone (contacts, photos, messages, apps etc) and restored to factory settings. Is there any way of getting any of this data back? I have important photos on their and contacts I really need. My husband tried to use the 'restore' options on itunes but as I have never backed up my data on itunes this did not seem to work.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Just one try: if you update your iPhone software via iTunes (not over-the-air!) iTunes always does a backup of your phone first. You can restore from this backup!!!

iPhone Contacts aren't stored on the SIM so it can't be anything to do with that.
What are you syncing your contacts with? iCloud, iTunes, Outlook, Exchange etc.?
Where are your contacts backed up?

Help - I have lost all my faces

I had to rebuild my iPhoto library to resolve a software issue (failing to print photos).
That was done by copying folders from my iPhoto library called "Originals" and "modified" back into a new iPhoto library. I assumed that all aspects associated with my library would transition too, but I now discover to my dismay that none of the faces that I have named and saved have moved. I had over 6000 photos, and I don't want to have to redo the naming of the faces manually.
Can anyone advise how I might restore all this information quickly and reliably?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When you broke up the old iPhoto Library you threw away a lot of information. iPhoto is more than the sum of the folders. There are various key database files that
a: track the relationship between the Original and Modified files
b: track the metadata you have added to Photos - keywords, Faces, Places, descriptions and so on
c: track Slideshows, books, calendars and so on.
You chucked all that away, I'm afraid, because you have chucked away all the database files.
What you did was a manual rebuild, a last resort.
Do you still have the old library? Or a back up of it?
If so, restore the back up and try Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

After the last update of itunes I seem to have lost all the music that I had downloaded from my Cds. It was a lot of music! All I still have is the music that I had purchased in the itunes store. And before you asked. No, I did not have a backup. Never got around to do it.
Does anyone of you have an idea if and how I can maybe get my music back?

Hi - I seem to have a similar problem. I was prompted to update to iPhoto 11 yesterday (don't know why yesterday, I'm in iPhoto all the time). So I followed the instructions, library updated, all existing events and albums are there. I uploaded some more pictures and created a few new albums and did some new year spring cleaning, moving stuff around etc. And I started making a calendar.
I've opened it up today, my calendar is still there as are all the new events, but the pictures are empty outlines. If I open up a picture I just get the "!" but I can still see the thumbnails showing in the slider in the bottom - I don't know if that means the source files must still be there somewhere, or if it just means it captured thumbnails yesterday.
I've gone into it via "show package contents" and there just don't seem to be any masters for an upload yesterday. I also just had a look in the last import folder, because of a comment from someone above. As I scrolled down through the folder the images were there and literally disappeared in front of me - by which I mean, the thumbnails were there as I scrolled down and then would turn into empty outlines...!
All my old folders are still there, thankfully (although they're of course the ones that are also all safely back up).
Although I have a timecapsule, my photo library is too big to keep on my hard drive, so I keep it on an external drive - so it only gets backed up when I do it manually (thanks Apple for that, I will never understand why it was designed to work - or not work - that way). So if the pictures have been lost then they are gone for good which is super-frustrating (I just got back from South Korea and was in the middle of sorting out all my shots from that trip). It seems that this can only have happened because of the update - I should have known better than to have pressed yes.
If you have any ideas, I'd be most grateful!

For the charging via USB, a lot of computers don't provide enough power to their USB ports to charge an iPad at a sufficient rate (it may still be charging, especially if the iPad's is locked and the screen is off), the iPad's own wall charger is generally the best way to charge it.
