HELP: I just updated my dad's iphone 3G with the 4.2.1 OS AND ALL THE CONTACTS AND MESSAGES ARE GONE
Guys, is there anyone that can help? Doesn't iTunes conduct backup of the iPhone's contents before syncing? I can't even find the back up file, and I can't locate any extractor! I'm using Windows Vista, and even importing the sim cards contacts comes up with rubbish! Can updating the iphone's software actually erase the contents of a sim card? PLEASE HELP! It will be very very much appreciated!
if iphone is still connected than try this:
right click on the name of the iphone in itunes (right side of the itunes software, under the point devices), than you have a option "restore from back up"
if you disconnected the iphone, than make this before connect the iphone:
open itunes, go to settings, than the point devices and disable automatically sync

The folder where your backup data is stored changes depending on the computer's operating system. Since iTunes only keeps one backup per device, you should ensure the backup folder is included in your periodic data backup routine.
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

I had the same problem too.
Yes, you can go apply for a new AppleID, which would be <your account>@icloud.com.
Then put this new AppleID into the icloud account field.
After this action, you will not be seeing the same contacts and appointments.
But for the itunes store, you still can use the same AppleID so that you can share purchases.
My wife and I use separate icloud accounts, and then we use a 3rd appleid for our itunes store. This allowed us to have separate contacts but still share itune purchases. -
How can I sync my iPhone 4 with a new MacBook Pro without losing all my data and settings?
I used to sync my iPhone 4 with a PC running Windows XP until the hard drive died. Thankfully, I already had a backup of all my iTunes media (Songs, TV Shows, Movies, Podcasts, Apps, etc), so when I bought a new MacBook Pro, transferring my iTunes library was easy.
My problem now is that I want to sync my iPhone 4 with my new MacBook Pro without losing all the data and settings. I have already used iTunes to back it up and transfered my purchases onto the mac. I just need help to sync the iPhone with the Mac without losing app data, emails, contacts, settings.
Everytime I click on the tabs (to sync contacts, apps, music, et al), I get an error message that reads:
"Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Ryan's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used my apple Id and my iCloud account on my mom's iPhone and all my contacts and stuff went to her phone and hers on mine. I tried to delete my apple id off of her phone now how do I delete the iCloud? And will the data from my phone be deleted too if I delete my iCloud off of her phone?

Well, yeah. You want to create separate accounts for each of you, using individual Apple IDs. I know mothers and daughters like to share clothes, shoes, handbags, etc. but don't share Apple IDs. -
I was trying to download my itunes to my iphone and did a restore by mistake. Now all my contacts, pictures etc are gone from april to now. How can I revert my iphone back to the way it was

Anybody else had problems with Ford SYNC and iphone 4?
Lost all my contacts. Any way to recover them if they haven't been backed up?The complaints I've heard most are due to the fact that the iPhone will not let you use the sync system to read and compose text messages, etc. I vaguely recall somthing about address books not syncing properly, but I've never heard of the sync system wiping the address book on the phone. It shouldn't be possible as the iPhone only supports PBAP for contact syncing, which is one way.
In any event, if the contacts were not synced to something and have been lost, there is no way to recover them, no matter what it was that wiped them. -
No, ON means "active". If you switch for example iTunes to "OFF" the icon will not be visible anymore. If app installation is switched to off, your app pane in iTunes will be greyed out.
Are you using the same account as when you bought the apps? Did you check the account info in Settings/Store/AppleID ?

I plugged my iphone in my laptop to update it as it wasnt updating it just like that, but when i plugged it in i lost all my contacts and important information is their anyway i can get it back?? help!!!
Where were you storing your contacts? In the cloud? In outlook? Synch them back from wherever they were being stored.

I just updated my mom's Iphone 4, and now it won't turn on. When it does, there is a "itunes" icon, with the cord picture, which is asking me to connect to Itunes, I believe. Can't get past this screen to even turn it on. What do I do without having to restore her entire phone, which I have no idea how to do that?
You need to restore using the recovery mode described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212 and may need to do that more than once to succeed.

Group messaging simply puts all replies in one conversation in Messages. It doesn't prevent the behavior you experienced.
My suggestion which would be much easier in my opinion, is rather than do a text, send out an email and use bcc: , which will keep the audience hidden from each recipient.
Otherwise, if you're determinted to do only texts, the only way is to send your message to one person at a time. You can of course copy/paste your msg each time which might be helpful. -

Did you restore your phone with itunes or check new phone. You can always reconnect with itunes and restore your phone to old settings and it should replace everything because it is on your computer

By the "restore iTunes symbol" do you mean a USB cable and the iTunes symbol? If so the device is in Recovery Mode and the device has already been erased and it needs to be Restored using iTunes. If your Dad had a backup you can Restore from backup after the iPhone is up and running. Follow the link for instructions > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
