Help in my code

Question

Hi, i need some help in my program.
It is running but it is not doing the right.
The program needs to compares two strings that the user input.
And display the message if the first string is less then the second string, equal, or greater.

     String str2 = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter the second string: ");
        if (str2.compareTo(str) == 1)

                                 "String Result", JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE);
        else if (str2.compareTo(str) == 0)
             JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The first string is equal to the second string",
                                 "String Result", JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE);
        else
             JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The first string is greater then the second string",
                                 "String Result", JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE);

Read the javadoc more carefully in the future:

compareTo does not always return -1, 0, and 1.
Instead, it may return any negative number, 0, or any postive number.
int result = str2.compareTo(str);
if (result > 0)
   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The first string is less than the second string"...);
else if (result == 0)
   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The first string is equal to the second string"...);
else
   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "The first string is greater than the second string"...);
