Help! Keyboard randomly stops working only with finder?

My macbook pro keyboard and my silver Apple bluetooth keyboard (primary keyboard) randomly stop working in Finder can anyone explain? Heres the details:
I usually use my wireless keyboard, and when this happens the keyboard keeps working with everything else, and only stops working in Finder i.e. I can't edit the names of files or even click through files with the arrow keys. (the Macbook Pro keyboard also stops working-only in Finder-during these times too as I just tested..)
Also, Finder keeps working its not frozen or anything, I can click around in it with the mouse and open files/apps, etc.
This has only happened approximately 3 or 4 times (I've had the keyboard since the new ones were released and the computer for 1.5 yrs)
Lastly, when I restart the OS (10.4.11) the problem disappears for a week or more..
help!

Don't do that. Archbang isn't Arch and it doesn't "get rid of installation pain," it just turns it into long term confusion and dependence...

  • T60 Thinkpad Keyboard randomly stops working.

Have a couple of T60 thinkpads which experience the same problem sporadically.
The keyboard will stop working and all key presses other than the Fn+ combinations will cease to function.
This can occur at the logon screen or sometimes after successful logon and use of the notebook it will stop with no apparent cause.
There appears to be no pattern to when or why this will occur.
    Any suggestions welcomed.

Hi antb, welcome to the forum,
I would try re-seating the keyboard connectors, how you remove the kb can be found here

  • 2010 Keyboard Randomly Stops Working

    Hi All,
I have a 2010 Macbook Pro 6,1 running 10.6.8. It runs fine, however, the keyboard will randomly stop working. The trackpad continues to work fine, but in order to get keyboard function I have to either restart (which sometimes doesn't work) or plug in an external keyboard.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening, or what I can do to fix it? Thank you!

  • T410 keyboard randomly stops working

Running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise edition and recently started having issues where the laptop keyboard stops working.  Mouse still works so it's possible to shutdown and reboot, but without connecting a USB keyboard there's no way to continue typing.
Rebooting and I'm back up and operational.
Looked in the error logs and don't see anything that would make me think that there's an issue (if someone can point me to what it should be) so I'm perplexed.
Just started happening this past week and I'm uncertain of any updates that have been pushed.
    Thoughts? Anyone?

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.
Further, the issue occurs on both the X201 and W510.
Using the 14.0.18 driver still has the issue of the keyboard randomly stop taking inputs while running Windows 7. If using with PGP Disk or TrueCrypt, the BIOS level password still takes keyboard input, but Windows itself does not - very frustrating.

  • My apple issued iPhone5 certified USB cord randomly stopped working/charging with iOS7.  Help!

I've had iOS7 installed on my iPhone5 since it was originally released and as of last week, the certified cord that came with my phone is no longer recognized.  We've no aftermarket cables in our posession, yet I was able to get the phone charged using a coworker's aftermarket cable - strange.  I've tried resetting the phone, plugging it into my mac, windows laptop and the wall outlet with only one successful charge coming from the windows machine, interestingly enough.  I'm almost out of juice on the phone - has anyone else solved this problem?  I'm at a loss.
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

If you were attempting to update then it means it was not applied properly. Otherwise, there was something in the environment that caused it to go into recovery mode.
You will need a micro usb cord to restore via iTunes. Most have one lying around, or they can be had for cheap. The other option is to take it to Apple and have them restore it.

  • Keyboard randomly stopped working

I just woke my computer from sleep (PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz) and noticed that the keyboard wasn't responding to anything at all - even the function keys wouldn't work (brightness, volume, etc.). I rebooted, and STILL the keyboard would not respond. At this point I got a little nervous, since now I couldn't log into my account (couldn't type the password).
I then tried shutting the computer off completely and booting it up cold. Now the keyboard appears to be working again. I put the computer to sleep and woke it up, and it's still fine.
This is the first (and so far only) time this has happened. The computer is about 2 and a half years old and I'm running OS X 10.5.1.
Is this indicative of a hardware problem, or just some weird random bug? Does anyone have any experience or insight into this? Thanks very much.

I'm having the same issue. PowerBook G4, 15-inch with Apple bluetooth mouse and Apple bluetooth keyboard. Keyboard and mouse lose their connection to the PowerBook randomly, and freeze. Nothing but a reboot fixes it. Toggling bluetooth on and off doesn't work. This has been going on since the Leopard upgrade.
If I plug a mouse into the USB port it gets the pointer moving and I can initiate the reboot procedure.
A patch was issued to fix this problem on the MacBook and MacBook Pro, but folks (Apple) it's happening on the G4 too!
I don't know if it's a bluetooth issue, something with the keyboard and mouse, or some kind of heartbeat problem within the OS.
I completely wiped the machine and did a fresh install of Leopard to see if it would fix the problem. It did not.

  • My keyboard randomly stops working

I was playing tetris on facebook and all the sudden I couldnt do the fast drop (spacebar). it was weird because i could still use the arrow keys to move the pieces and the shift key worked too. I clicked on the address bar and tried to type but nothing. but I could use my arrow keys still. I clicked on spot light same thing. They keys that did work were only the top row where the brightness, music, volume etc.. buttons are. I eventually restarted my computer and now it works. This has happened before. does anyone know of any fixes?
I also noticed that the key J would move the cursor diagonally down to the left. and the K key moved the cursor straight down. and they L key moved the cursor diagonally down to the right.

hey i just posted a discussion about this. what I have figured out is that if you press alt (option) 5 times in a row it shuts off the keys, well most of the keyboard. figured it out while playing snes. as i had alt set for a command. and it used to shut off alot while playing. so there you have it. alt 5 times turns them on and off.
you heard it here first from THE "marcus sexton" thank you.
please commment on my post so i know you got the info and if it has worked for you.
so that's alt 5 times. turn them on or off. works both ways.

  • Wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working - changed batteries still did not help

    Hi
I have an Envy 20 all in one touchscreen with a wireless keyboard which has been absolutley fantastic until now.  The wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working while composing an email.  I replaced the batteries and checked them with a volt meter to ensure 1.5v. They are a name brand alkiline battery.  I tried re-booting the computer and pressing the blue connect button under the keyboard.  The only keys that seem to work are the volume up/down and mute; the rest of teh keyboard does not.  Any idea?  I like the factory keyboard so I am hoping it is not a faulty keyboard.  After market keyboards will use a USB port.
    Thanks

I understand that your wireless keyboard is not working and you are looking for assistance. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Troubleshooting, which will walk you through the troubleshooting process for your wireless keyboard.
Now if this does not work and you have to replace the keyboard do not fear you can replace the keyboard and the dongle without using another USB port as the one that is in can be replaced. I would be happy to assist you further and/or walk you through changing out the dongle from a new wireless keyboard, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find your product number. As well, if you could indicate which operating system you are using. And whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit as with this and the product number I can provide you with accurate information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please re-post with the requested information and I would be happy to provide you with assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

When my iPhone is connected (via the Lightning cable) to the usb port in my car, the alert tones are no longer played through the car speaker or the phone.  This previously worked, but has randomly stopped working. help!

I took my iPhone to the Service center of M/s RSG INFOTECH PRIVATE LIMITED on April 17, 2014.
Why are you posting in this forum about what occured with an independent service provider?  How is is at all relevant to Apple??  In fact, service by any person or business not authorized by Apple voids any waranty.

  • HT2452 my imac keyboard has stopped working? help!!!

my imac keyboard has stopped working??? help!!!!!

My keyboard just stopped working out of the clear. One minuet OK next it was dead. No little green light at all. New batteries did not help.
FIXED THE PROBLEM!  I took a small piece of aluminum, made a little ball out of it and dropped it down the tube where the batteries go. Replaced the batteries I had just used......little green light comes on and the the keyboard functions like always.
My guess is after a few years the contacts oxidize a bit and don't make contact with the batteries on the bottom of the tube. Give it a try.

  • The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working. Help!

The "enter" key on the numeric keypad of my external mac keyboard has stopped working with my Macbook pro.  If I plug the keyboard into any other computer, that entier key works fine. I'm using a standard Mac wired keyboard, & it's worked fine for 2 years now. Help!
This is the keyboard I am using: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/B/apple-keyboard-with-numeric-keypad
Not sure what I might have accidentily done to disable the enter key. (The normal enter key works fine, just the one on the numeric keypad.)
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi there,
Do you have any resolution to this problem in the end? Because it happened to me an exact same thing.
Please share if you have found a solution to your problem. I also cannot think of what I did wrong to disable the Enter key.
