Help manually adding songs

I am on IPhone 5 iOS 7.02
since updating to iOS7 and ITunes 11.1.1.11, I cannot seem to get songs that I have manually added (via converting audio to mp3) into my iPhone.  I can add it into my Itunes library and it plays fine, but no matter what I do, I cannot get it into my phone.  I have tried manually managing music, checking and rechecking the songs, with sync in between, syncing the entire library, syncing only checked songs (with that particular song checked) and it still shows as a dotted circle "on this phone"  Is this an issue with the update?  When I try to drag and drop, I pull the song to the right, and my iphone pops up, and even flashes when I drop the song, but it never goes into my music on my phone.  Is there a setting that I need to change? HELP!!

I'm having the same issue!
Even if I do manage to successfully add the songs to my iphone some of them disappear off my iphone once I disconnect the phone from the computer

I can no longer see anything in the "Manually Added Songs" field when managing music on my iPhone4. why?

If you are using iTunes Match, your songs are long gone.
iTunes Match is now a streaming service, with no regards to letting you download individual files.
Otherwise, I'm sorry for wasting your time.

  • Adding Explicit Tag to Manually Added Songs

Is there anyway to add the Explicit tag to songs you manually added? I've searched on Google, and all I get is programs to download and are really confusing...

Other than finding software and figuring out how to use it, I found a different solution to weening out explicit songs.
A few people online recommended using comments. If you put the word "explicit" into the comment field of any explicit song you can create a smart playlist that excludes any song with that comment into it!
Or if you are in a bad mood, you can make a smart playlist that only contains songs with the "explicit" comment in it. :P
Anyways, the worst part about this method is taking the time to mark each song with that comment. Although, using CTRL+Clicking or SHIFT+Clicking to select multiple tracks, then hitting "Get info" to change all of their comments at once, will make it easier.
    Hope this helps!

  • Need help manually adding music, side bar isn't working!!

Can someone help me?! I tried using the side bar to manually add music but when I went to drag and drop it isn't letting me. I even went through the tutorial and looked for "On this Ipod" > "Add to".. But there was NO "Add to". Someone help please!

holy crap, after 2 hours of trying to figure out why it wasn't working I had to have the "manually add songs" in ipod summary checked EVEN THOUGH music sync was unchecked. What kind of reasoning is this... -____-

  • ITunes not showing all my manually added songs for 4S

Ok, It was working yesterday but now for some odd reason normally all my songs show up in the manually added section when my phone is plugged in but today I noticed it's only showing a small portion of my songs and as such I can't delete songs that I want to remove as you have to go through the manually added section, not sure what's causing this really and hoping someone else has had a similar issue.

  • Manually Adding Songs

How do I just manually add individual songs to my devices (like my Shuffle) in the new iTunes v11?  In the old version it showed up usefully in the scroll list on the left and now it's all hidden away.  This is so unintuitive and user unfriendly.  I've never so strongly disliked an Apple update before!

Ok, let's try to clarify the issues here. I think we're dealing with two different problems. Here's what I'm getting from your posts, please correct me if I am wrong:
Issue 1: You transferred some songs to your new computer using the post here. However, some of the song names came out funny in your new version of iTunes.
    Solution:
If I were you, I would either rename the songs in iTunes if it is not too many of them or do the following if you have the songs on your old computer:
Enable the iPod for disk use on your old computer. - Putting the iPod in Disk Mode
Next, follow these instructions to transfer your iTunes library to your new computer. I know you have already done this, but this method is less complicated and should not give you problems with your song names. If it does, I don't think you have much of a choice except to rename them on your faster/newer computer.
Transferring Library to a New Computer
    Issue 2:
You are unable to manually add songs to your iPod.
Solution: If this is a problem after fixing issue 1, please post back.
If I've understood what you have posted, I have provided solutions for your problems. If you have any questions or I did not follow what you were saying correctly, please post back.

  • HT1351 Sync + manually added songs: If i choose 'sync music' there is a box at the bottom containing manually added songs. Will these songs be synced in the event of iOS updates etc?

I'm using new ipad with windows 7. Thank you!

If you mean when you do an iOS update via iTunes, no it shouldn't. The update and the synch are two separate activities if you set to manual.
If that is a concern, you do not have to connect to iTunes to do an iOS update as of v. 5.

  • Manually added tracks put my iPhone over capacity. Now I can't sync. Help!

I have a number of Audiobook I tried to sync to my phone.  I could not find anywhere in the iPhone settings to choose to sync these (anyone know where?).  So I manually added them by dragging them from iTunes onto the iPhone.
However they are very large files and put my iPhone "over capacity".  Now whenever I try to sync I get an error message saying:
"The iPhone “Mr Shiney” cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the selected items (additional 7.38 GB required)."
But I can't unselect these files!  They don't appear in the "Manually Added Songs" section of the Music tab.  My phone is stuck in this weird state where I can no longer sync.
I have tried deleting the songs from iTunes.  But this now just says the songs couldn't be found so I still can't sync.
Should I restore from backup?  Won't I lose all my app content?  Any ideas what to do?
My iPhone is a 3G on iOS 4.2.1. iTunes is 10.5.

Have you touched the "More" button (on the iPhone).
    then gone to Audio Books.
    Are they there?
I had an audio book still on my iphone, it survivedf the iOS5 update.
To get rid of it, I plugged iPhone into Mac,
    Go to itunes.
    Click on Iphone in iTunes.
    Go to Books tab,
Scroll down, there is audio books.
    Choose sync selected audio books,
And untick the ones I don;t want.
    Dows this work for you?

  • Why is iTunes not showing manually added music

Upgraded to the 4S from the 4, restored the 4S from the backup of my 4 including all the music etc.
The sync option is ticked so I get all my play counts etc but here is the annoying part! The "Manually added songs" part at the bottom of the music tab is blank, even though there are over 500 songs on my iPhone. I wan't to remove some of them but can't unless I manually manage the songs. When I remove them and then tick the sync button again, the songs come back again!
    Help please?

I've always assumed those silly strings were recording the results of the gapless playback analysis but whatever they're for it would be better if they were stored in a spare field.
Windows Media Player/Windows Explorer may be less fussy on embedded artwork formats than iTunes or the media file might actually be missing the art but the Windows Explorer cache (Thumbs.db) still shows it. You say removing-reimporting doesn't help but I assume you can still paste new artwork in and have it remembered. If so you might want to use the following tool to at least take some of the effort out of searching out which tracks you need to repair.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.

  • How to "manually add songs" only

A few simple steps to manually manage your music in your iTunes so that your manually add songs to your iPod (provided the song amount, i.e. the Gb used, is less than the storage capacity of the touch device used).
    Step 1.
Create a playlist and drag every song into the playlist you wish to be on your iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
    Step 2.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and "select" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to unselect all songs.
    Step 3.
Return to the playlist and press "cmd" and "select" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to select all songs in the playlist.
[Note in doing step 2 followed by step 3, only the songs in the playlist are checked in the music section]
    Step 4.
Return to the music section and sort by checked songs
    Step 5.
Select all the checked songs and drag them onto the iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
    Step 6.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and "select" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to select all songs.
[Now what you have is only the songs you want on your device and all the songs will show up in the manually added songs section on your device. Also by reclicking all the music in your iTunes library you avoid the unnecessary complications of songs not playing/transferring while listening to music on your computer]
A bit time consuming but it works well who like to carefully manage their library.

    Hi Chris,
I will delete this thread and repost with correct terminology to avoid confusion. Also I will include the rationale behind why you would take this approach so that people can choose to see whether they will benefit from it. I'd have liked this to exist prior so I can manage my music statistics.
Your way is right also, but is not the only way to do it and is certainly not the correct way for me. You don't "manage" your music your way.
A few simple steps to manually manage your music in your iTunes so that your manually add songs to your iPod (provided the song amount, i.e. the Gb used, is less than the storage capacity of the touch device used).
Reason: This is a good approach (not the only approach might I add) if you wish for your playcount to be tracked and a failsafe way of managing your songs individually so you do not need to rely on playlists.
    Step 1.
Create a playlist and drag every song into the playlist you wish to be on your iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
    Step 2.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and click on the "touchpad" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to unselect all songs.
    Step 3.
Return to the playlist and press press "cmd" and click on the "touchpad" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to select all songs in the playlist.
[Note in doing step 2 followed by step 3, only the songs in the playlist are checked in the music section]
    Step 4.
Return to the music section and sort by checked songs
    Step 5.
Select all the checked songs and drag them onto the iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
    Step 6.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and click on the "touchpad" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to select all songs.
[Now what you have is only the songs you want on your device and all the songs will show up in the manually added songs section on your device. • ITunes manually added artwork is missing after Windows Easy Transfer from XP to Windows-7. Please help!

After a Windows Easy Transfer from a Windows XP pc to a new Windows-7 pc, all the iTunes artwork that I had previously manually added is now missing. I estimate 25-30% of my CDs needed manual intervention to add artwork. Some of these were album covers I found on the web but many are photos that I took and cropped but have not retained. I have nearly 20,000 songs. Every one had artwork on my XP machine. Now on Windows-7 it appears to be missing. I spent many patient hours to get artwork in place for all my music and don't want to loose it or have to repeat the process. Please help! Many thanks for any contributions.

  • How do i change over from automatically adding songs to manually adding

Using 2 ipods on the computer and don't want all of the other person's songs. How can i change from automatically adding songs to manually managing the songs that go on to the ipod. If i plug it in, i'm afraid that i will mess up all my current songs on there. Please help.

Here are the instructions as they are written in the IPod PDF manual:
In iTunes, select iPod nano in the source list and click the Summary tab.
2 In the Options section, select “Manually manage music and video.”
    3 Click Apply.
Note: When you manage songs and video yourself, you must always eject iPod nano
from iTunes before you disconnect it.
To add a song, video, or other item to iPod nano:
1 Click Music or another Library item in the iTunes source list.
2 Drag a song or other item to the iPod nano icon in the source list
    Hope this helps you.

  • Help with adding new song to 2007 iPod shuffle

I have an iPod shuffle from 2007 and just recently went to add new songs to it.  Itunes program keeps telling me I have to erase everything and reload w/ new playlist I've added??  Confused, don't remember it working like this last year when I added songs.  Any help??

With the 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffle, it can only be associated with one iTunes library at a time.  That has always been the design.  It is basically like a mobile playlist for iTunes the library.  The 3rd and 4th gen shuffles work more like the "bigger" iPods that have a screen, which is different from the very simple 1st and 2nd gen.
If you previously used this shuffle with a different iTunes library, iTunes is asking if you want to associate the shuffle with the iTunes library you are now using.
    Any help??
What do you want to do...?

  • How can I get ITUNES to display manually added artwork for each song regardless of the album name?

I have been manually adding artwork to my songs. When I click the Show Artwork check box, it doesn't show the cover art. For example some greatest hits albums have different cover art per track. ITUNES picks one of the cover art and shows it for the entire album grouping.
Anyway around this? I want the added cover art to display per song.

The artwork of each individual track does display during playback, in the small thumbnail at the top of the iTunes window, or at the left of the MiniPlayer control (opens by clicking the thumbnail), or the larger artwork panel that is shown if you click on the Show Large Artwork control in the MiniPlayer. It should also display on any iPod or iOS Now Playing view.
The Up Next list uses the album art (usually cover of the first track) for everything from the same album, which is perhaps a shame, although in general one artwork per album makes sense.
