Help me I'm in a tough situation, is there a technical solution?

Apple have previously disapproved my previous version of this issue because I was not clear about my questions, so I have chosen to rephrase them. Despite this "misunderstanding" I was actually asking for technical help and instead got deleted. Please actually read this instead of just reporting it! I do actually have an issue here and I do want help and I feel that I was right to post it here. I don't personally agree that I didn't meet the criteria. But I am trying believe it or not! If you don't want to answer this topic, just move on. Let someone else help me, instead of reporting it, because it's all too hard or seems all too obvious to you what the answers are or you feel it doesn't meet criteria. Some of us don't have all the answers, not even all the obvious ones. My original version was not written in haste or anger, nor did I blame Apple, I also spent time to edit it to structure the situation clearly. I explained my background situation clearly to show my issue was serious and to show how it all fits together. Otherwise the questions just seem lame and pointless. After all I doubt many will be in this same situation which leaves me no where.
Question 1. I already asked this, Can I removed the Apple default apps? I thought I might not be seeing how since there are many hidden features on the iPhone.
Answer 1. Apparently not.
Question 2. Can I control the way apps access the data network? I can't find a way to prevent apps from using it or switching to it when my WI-FI drops momentarily.
Question 3. Is it possible for the mobile provider to turn my data network off while leaving the cellular network active?
Question 4. I'm trapped in a tough spot, is there something "technical" I can do, that I haven't mentioned bellow? There must be something to elevate the situation.
For your information only I have posted the original account I made unedited bellow. I did initial two phrases to G.B. to reduce filtering on Apples forum. I add this here because it explains my situation clearly (or so it seems to me). Please don't take offence that I have added it. Choose to not read it if you will, but don't judge me for adding it. But by reading it I think my questions might look less random or silly:

I have wound up getting an iPhone contract that has me living in a data roaming area for my mobile provider. This is partly due to insufficient knowledge, lack of education in the matter and partly due to the nature of all services in the remote Australian town I live in. The reason I went with this provider in the first place was due to the limited services I could access that had signal in my home and finance. Incidentally all three of them sell iPhones. The first one's cheapest deal is $100 a month for the contract with a lousy deal. The second has intermittent signal in our home, I may have gone with one of their plans if not for the poor signal. The third, which I went with, a fairly good deal for the cash and the cellular coverage perfect all over the property. I have since found out their roaming data network, which I live in is contracted to the first option which own the monopoly and hence the ridiculous mb charges. Occasionally it connects to the second option, but I get the feeling they are also subcontracting off the first! Anyway...
So I live in a roaming data area, It's not international roaming so the phone won't protect me from the excessive mb charges. I started out only using general apps when in WI-FI but found intermittent drop outs which I never noticed happen was causing excessive charges. I have since noticed the signal bars for the WI-FI not change but a spinner indicator ,all very easy to miss. I contacted the network and they refuse to turn off my data network; despite a tech telling me it can be done. So until Apple come to the rescue and put in a feature like the no roaming feature that works for all mobile data connections, that are not the ones belonging to the service provider, I'm stuck turning the phone to aeroplane mode before using any app I don't completely trust. I can see Apples difficulty here, but I would settle for turning all data network off, just leaving the cellular network and WI-FI active. As things are I have to turn phone over to aeroplane mode, then turn WI-FI on then use app, then remember to turn the phone back on when finished. Sometimes I forget for a couple of hours. But I trust some apps or sometimes forget to turn the mobile off. Contacts app got me the yesterday; I was at the post office where I looked up an address and accidentally tapped the address on the card and the maps app loaded up. This is followed by mad stumble to close it before it uses data. So easy to do, also happened using the iPod in the car a few days back. While selecting a pod cast I accidentally clicked "Get more episodes…" and safari loaded, Panic!!! Also what makes it worse, is that I can't remove or hide some apps provided by Apple, like Maps, for example, to reduce the risk of accidental tap. Feel very vulnerable! There is also a risk of forgetting to switch the phone to aeroplane mode when I let a friend checkout the phone or just play one of my games.
So Apple, what are my options? Shelve the phone by leaving phone permanently off turning it into an iPod touch and keep paying through the nose for 2 years? Or G.B. so I can make some changes that would help, I read there is a solution to this issue for G.B. phones, (I'm not sure what impact that would have on my service). But frankly neither of these options I want to follow! I feel trapped!
Also there is nothing disclosing to me what apps have access to what data port. I would feel better if I could see a true list of what each app has access to. Not just on the phone but also on the app store, information detected and provided by hardware and not submitted by the programmer. No offence to all you GOOD programmers out there, but there are many that can't be trusted. An example of my need for this disclosure, does Remote (apple's iTunes remote) access the data network or just the WI-FI? Of course I would ASUME it only accesses the WI-FI. But reading the support page and description for it left me unsure, and it's this unsure feeling that scares me with this whole situation hanging over me. The home pages and the apps themselves are like a mine field to me. Another simple question reflecting this. Does the weather app regularly check for forecast data, or does it only do it when I open the app? What if I mistakenly click it while my data network is active? Sounds harmless doesn't it? But to me a mistake like that adds around $5 to my bill which is already pushing my budget. It would also be useful to be able to control each apps access privileges independently; but I would settle for a simple setting that has them all prompt me for access to the data network instead of just switching to it when there is a short WI-FI dropout.
I love the iPhone but I'm starting to feel I chose the wrong product. It has too many fluent network features (imagine saying that!) and it makes too many assumptions about my situation, most of which are wrong. The iPhone is the wrong product for someone who lives where I live and doesn't have basement full of gold! But I am stuck with this contract, what are my options?

Question 1. I already asked this, Can I removed the Apple default apps?
No. But you can turn off automatic syncing and Push email and set the phone to retrieve mail manually.
Question 2. Can I control the way apps access the data network?
Sort of. Turn on Airplane mode which will disable the cellular modem then turn on WiFi only. With Airplane mode ON and WiFi ON, your phone will only connect to the internet using an available WiFi connection.

Apps do not run in the background so they only way an app can attempt to connect is if you have it running. If you do not run the app, it cannot run up your bill. For Apps that have "background" notification, you can turn that option off in the settings for each of those apps.
Question 3. Is it possible for the mobile provider to turn my data network off while leaving the cellular network active?
That is up to your provider. Call them. Go into Settings, General, Network, and turn OFF Data Roaming.

In the US, you can return the phone within thirty days and void the contract. If you do not have that option, or if you are past thirty days, you can pay the ETF (Early Termination Fee) and void the contract.
I live in a very rural area in the US and I have used all of the techniques listed above at different times. I hope this helps; I "get it" that a huge Surprise! data roaming bill at the end of the month can be upsetting. Try the stuff I listed above and if none of that works, paying the ETF might be cheaper than paying Surprise! bills every month.

  • The Help Link from the Application Pages Does not Work for Peoplesoft Campus Solutions 9.0

    I have a problem, I have been trying to set up the Help Link from the Application Pages for Peoplesoft Campus Solutions 9.0 according to the instructions given in the Document: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17566_01/epm91pbr0/eng/psbooks/EnablingtheHelpLinkfromApplicationPages.pdf ,  (referenced in the Doc ID 1289101.1, E-PB: How to Set Up the Context Sensitive Help with Hosted PeopleBooks using Universal Linking).
    I follow the instructions of that document carefully:
    I go to: PeopleTools -> Web Profile -> Web Profile Configuration
        2. Then I choose the Web Profile: "Development".
        3. Then Change the value for the Help URL field by entering the following URL format: http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?id=%CONTEXT_ID%&ctx=hrcs90r5 , the ctx parameter selected is the one that correspond to  the Campus Solutions (hrcs90r5) according to the Product Line Code Table (ULinkID) especified in the mentioned document.
        4. Stop the Web Domain and Clear cache.
        5. Start the Web Domain again.
    After setting up the Web Profile Configuration I test the help links, thas is why I click in the Help link in any Peoplesoft CS 9.0 Application Page (modify a person), but the next error message appears: "We're sorry, the topic you requested was not found.".
    I tried many combinations with the ctx parameters URL but it does not work yet. 
    I did the same test, but this time using the Help URL field with a HRMS ctx parameter by entering the following URL format: http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?id=%CONTEXT_ID%&ctx=hcm92pbr5 , and It works fine !!!
    According to the previous test you realize that It works with HRMS ctx parameter but not with Campus Solutions 9.0 ctx parameter,  Does anybody know what else can I do ? Am I doing anything wrong or missing? or maybe the Oracle's ctx parameter for Campus Solutions URL It is broken simply.

    2799444 - The page you are testing with appears to be a Workforce Administration page. Is that correct?
    The CS PeopleBooks would only work for CS pages, e.g.: try navigating to Main Menu > Campus Community > Personal Information > Add/Update a Person
    Also, you can use multiple ctx parameters:
    E.g.: http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?id=%CONTEXT_ID%&ctx=hrcs90r5&ctx=hcm92pbr5&ctx=pt852pbh2
    This way the help would work for the HR related pages like Workforce Administration, Campus Solutions pages like Campus Community and also PeopleTools pages like Web Profile Configuration. Hope this clarifies your question. Thanks!

    Hi,
    Unfortunately I already tried all kinds of re-installs (the full list is in my original message). The only one remaining is the reinstall of Windows 8 itself, which I would really like to avoid.
    What I find really strange is the time it takes for the above error message to appear. It's like one hour or even more (never measured exactly, I left the computer running).
    What kind of a timeout is that? I would expect that, if ports are really used by some other application, I get the message in less than a minute (seconds, actually). To me this looks like the emulator itself for some reason believes there's a problem with
    some port while in reality there isn't.
    I'll eventually contact Microsoft Support, thanks for the suggestion.

  • Situation where there are a lot of AgentErrorCount in Call Type Reporting

    I am facing a situation where there is a lot of AgentErrorCount, and my customer are now getting worried of loosing calls.
    I looked at the latest "Reporting Guide for Cisco Unified ICM - Contact Center Enterprise & Hosted, 8.0(1), Nov 2010 " and the given definiton about AgentErrorCount is this one:
    • Calls that abandon en-route to agents are calls that encounter an error when the call is at the agent desktop. This call is counted as part of the AgentErrorCount in the Call_Type tables.
    I tried to make several calls in my lab (e.g. hanging the call while the phone is ringing or even before the phone is ringing to duplicate this issue without success ...
    Does anybody knows what that mean exactly when calls are "abandonned en-route to agents" ? Is it network related ?
    Any feedback is appreciated on this !

    Hi Nick,
    Abandoned en-route to agent actually means when ICM reserves an agent and sends the information to Call Manager to make the phone ring. when the phone is about to ring, if the agent un hooks the receiver or if he goes to the aux mode the call will fail. This call is listed under the abandoned calls en-route to an agent. However the number of failed count due to this is very less. If you see more number of calls in calls error, you would also need to verify other scenarios on the network too. As you have not mentioned whether the Contact center and the Data center components are in the same or  different location at this point of time I cannot conclude on the answer. If they are seperated over WAN you would need to check on the network side also.

    Next time, you can use the Text Wrap function, so you don't need to manually wrap the text.

    when i create a sales order, the sold-to-party and ship to party have some countries assigned.
    My client have some list of countries whom it does not want to trade.
    When i enter the sold to party and ship to party and goto>extras>export liscence-->log.
    If the country entered is in the list of countries whom it does not want to trade.
    It should give and error, saying EMBARGO SITUATION OF SOLD TO PARTY.
    I have been give 3 includes
    INCLUDE LV52E001
    INCLUDE LV52E002
    MV45AF0B_BOYKOTT_KOPF
    But it is not working.
    I only need to send SY-SUBRC value 4 after checking the validations.
    Please help. full points in advance.

    please check the validity date for CA (transaction VE53). It should not be in the past. And don't forget, the check is carried out for all partner country involved.
    Once you have activated the legal controll you have to fully customize it! i.e activate it for CA as well (VE52).

    Since 3 months I own my first macbook pro.
    Since some days, this happens: first the a transparent grey screen rolls down; then a grey box appears in which is written

    It happens quite regularly, the last time just after booting. There's no other choice but to switch off and reboot. The apple hardware test didn't reveal any problems.
    The problems started to occur after I applied the latest upgrades, and installed Parallels, in which I'm running Windows XP. The event however also occurs when Parallels is not running. I also freed up HD space, but to no result. After using the last major upgrade and rebooting, I noticed a one-time event of the screen seeming to darken forcing me to adjust brightness to the previous levels. The mouse pointer has disappeared and reappeared on one occasion.
    The last report seems to point to the USB drivers or bluetooth devise. Bluetooth and airport have both been switched off during the events. I might add that I have an external screen attached as I do a lot of photo editing.
    Any help will be grately appreciated! After finally abandoning windows, I thought my life would at last be free of trouble...

    USB Device: PHILIPS VOIP321, full_speed, 500 mA

    I doubt this is a permissions issue.
    Try unplugging your USB devices, see if the problem occurs again.
    I've had this happen when I tried to plugin a PHILIPS VOIP321 phone for attempted use over parallels. For some odd reason, the USB bus drivers of OS X just can't seem to recognize 2 VOIP phone thus far. The Philips VOIP321 and the Linksys CIT300 are both that I've tested and have never been able to get functioning.
    I saw you had USB Device: PHILIPS VOIP321, full_speed, 500 mA in your report, so may be the same issue.
    Thing is I find it odd that the USB Device was even named. I don't think my panic reports had that in it. Which leads me to believe that perhaps your issue is not the same as mine.
    has your VOIP321 functioned properly ever? if so, how?

    I am very eager to make the move from MobileMe to iCloud, but...
    As you can see from your own email, this is far from simple 
    My wife and I totally depend on my Macbook Pro (1), my old Powerbook that my wife uses (2), our iPhones (3 & 4), our iPad (5), my Time Machine, and my MobileMe (6), including Backups to our iDisk on MobileMe to keep our lives running.
    iCal's synced across 6 Apple platforms
    Address Books synced across 6 Apple platforms
    Email synced across 6 Apple platforms (me using Mail and wife using AOL)
    Bookmarks synced across 6 Apple platforms
    Various apple ID's synced across 6 Apple platforms
    You get the picture
    I would hate to mess this delicately balanced Apple computer ecosystem up at all.
    iOS 10.7 requires that I upgrade a bunch of my key work apps and figure out a way to transfer a 10 year dependence on Quicken onto some other equally robust financial management platform that doesn't seem to exist.  Just to add insult to potential injury.
    I'm scared.
    Wish this whole process could be 500% more automated.
    We've been on Macs  and other Apple devices since 1987.  I can't keep track of all of my "Apple ID's" for this and that that you've asked me to set up for each device and for each service over the years.  Everything's registered with you.

    etc.
    You should be able to gather all of my identities together into one place and figure out the best way to migrate me to the new Apple iCloud Garden of Eden.
    You've got to find a way to help us work all this out.  It's more than intimidating.  We're frozen in fear.  We just can't jump from here to there.

    This is a user-to-user forum: you aren't talking to Apple here.
    I do sympathize with your situation: you are among many for whom upgrading is impracticable, but who are dependent on MobileMe facilities which will be withdrawn next June.
    As you say, you will need 10.7.2 to access iCloud on a Mac, and iOS5 for mobile devices.
    I can't offer you any easy solutions, but this list may at least clarify the exact situation for you:
    Your email, calendars, contacts and bookmarks, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud.
    Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery. will continue to work as before until next June.
    You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
    You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
    You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
    You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
    Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
    There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).
