Help me style buttons & forms in InDesign

Hi there, I am using Buttons & Forms in the Interactive for PDF workspace for the first time, and am having trouble with a few things:
- I can't seem to change the style of the text in a text field. It reverts to 12pt black Times in the PDF, even when I've selected another colour, fonts & size in InDesign. I can then change it in Acrobat, but that's annoying.
- I am also having trouble with Check Boxes. I want it to be clear until they rollover, then for a customised tick to appear & stay when clicked. I've customised the tick OK, but the cross keeps appearing when the tick's not there.
One more thing, can I use my Typekit range of fonts for forms, or am I best to use standard system fonts for viewing at the user end?

If you export a PDF from Indesign and the pages don't come out as they look in Indesign, you used the wrong export settings. That also impacts your custom fonts. They need to be included in the PDF, of course.
Check boxes: you need to select the correct one and better test it first on a separate PDF. Different Acrobat versions and other PDF reader will result in different display formats of those check boxes.

Css to style a form button

At the beginning of my stylesheet I am using the following to
reset all margins, border and padding.
* { margin: 0; padding: 0; border: 0; }
With forms, that makes it mendatory for me to style them.
Meaning I do something like this:
.column01 input, .column01 textarea { border: 1px solid
#C3C3C3; border-top-color: #7C7C7C; border-bottom-color: #DDD; }
.column01 input.myBtn{ width: auto; margin-top:1px;
vertical-align: top; }
What I would now like to do and don't know how, is to reset
the myBtn to the browser default. So for example if I am looking at
this in Safari, it would give the glass look. Is there a way to do
that?

What version of Reader are they using, exactly? And are you sure they're
using Reader itself and not opening the file inside a browser window, for
example?

Form Inside InDesign

We have manuals for tools we sale, and I put them together with InDesign. These manuals are interactive PDF's. I am wanting to add a Quality Assurance form inside the manuals. So if customer has a problem with a product or service they can fill in this form and click the email button to send this form information to us.
I use Livecycle Designer ES4 to build all forms we use inhouse and to send out to customers. I have also used Acrobat & Indesign for build forms.
The problem I'm having is with Indeisgn when you place a interactive PDF into Indesign (be it from Livecycle or Acrobat) you lose all info for that form. And making a form inside the document using InDesign and adding a email button. When the email button is used to email the form you don't just get that one page you get the complete manual.
I would think there may be a script you can use to have it email just the one page this form is on. I know some javascript and have wrote some scripts, but I'm still new to the script world.
Is there a way to embed this form so that it will work the way I'm needing?

I inserted the form but the form I am using is an XML form and Acrobat will not let you insert an XML form. You can add it as an attachment.
The only problem with the attachment is, if you don't have something that info's you that there is an attachment present it could be missed.
I made a quick form from InDesign and exported it to an interactive PDF. Then went and inserted this PDF form into the PDF manual and it worked like I am needing. The only problem is when you click the email button it still emails the complete manual. I have to now figure out how to be able to email only the one page.
I thought I may have to add a link that takes you to this form on our website so it could be completed and sent from there.

Clean and best way to style web forms

Hi everyone,
I'm having trouble styling my web forms and I cant seem to find a anyone else with the same problem?
I'm just wondering what are everyone's ways how they style there forms to there designs instead of the business catalyst default style.
I know where to find my stylesheets but I would love to find any info to make it an easy process or if someone could direct me to a tutorial for the quickest and easiest way to style forms with out breaking them.

Also when I insert a form on a page it's fine but when I have a template assigned to that page I think the form trys to use the CSS from the template and it doesn't quite work.

Layout Style "tree-form" with Wizard Style Layout checked

Dear all,
I am using layout style "tree-form" with Wizard Style Layout check box checked. intention is to display the hierarchy in tree and insertion with the help of Wizard for the last block. But with above settings, generated form is displaying as blank.
Example of required behavior: REGIONS should be displayed in Tree while the new Employees entry should be with the help of Wizard Style Layout.

This combination is not supported. But you can acvhieve what you want by creating a separate group to insert a new employee. This additional group should have form layout, wizard checkbox checked, and "Add Menu Entry" option unchecked.
Then you can customize the New button in the existing tree-form employee group to navigate to the new employee wizard group.

Button issue in InDesign CS4

I need to add text using interactive --> button option in InDesign CS4. This particular text has to appear when I mouse the text in PDF after generating from InDesign CS4. I don't want to add those text in PDF itself.
Indesign CS3 has button options to add text but InDesign CS4 does have that option to add text. Please guide me how to add text using Button in ID CS4.
What I did was: I have created a button and add text using button option and save it. When exporting PDF from ID CS3, I have enabled the option Interactive elements. After generating PDF from ID CS3 I have mouse over the text, whatever text I was inserted in button it appeared in PDF well.
But this option is not available in InDesign CS4. I hope you understand it clear now.
I have taken the screenshot below from InDesign CS3 and attached the same for your reference. This option does have in InDesign CS4. Please help me out in this regard.

Help with complex Acrobat forms

Hi Everyone,
Background: I worked with another developer and completed a form for one of our clients but I need to know if the below change requests are even possible and if so if anyone would like to help with finishing the form. I am definitely willing to pay for an experts services as long as this can be done in a timely manner.
What the form is - Our client wants a form that has text fields, drop down boxes and pages where images can be placed into the file and arrows drawn on it to point where the images are located on other images (some images are store layout maps). They would like to send this file out to their store managers, have them fill it in and then they would like the completed forms sent back so all of the information that was filled in (names, store names, addresses, square footage, etc) can be gathered into a database or excel file.
What is completed so far
- Cascading drop down boxes (user clicks on first drop down and whatever is selected changes the second drop down options, etc)
- Most of the text fields for information gathering including city, state, store manager etc
- Metric unit conversion boxes
- Header text fields (read only) are used on several of the pages and are a combination of choices made in the drop down boxes and text fields.
- Page footer info including page number
- The over all layout of the pages is set
Requested changes/additions
Major must have:
- Page Addition - There is a product page in the form (page 10) and the different stores will have a different number of these products to enter into the form so is there a way to add an ADD PAGE button on the page that when pressed will copy the product page to make a new product page? Now the product page has cascading drop down form fields on it so I would want to make sure the form fields are separate iterations of the form fields not just a duplicate of what was on the product page.
- Footer adjustments - If we can do the above of adding pages then is it possible to at that point adjust the footer to reflect the page number changes? The footer shows the current page number then the form name and date.
- Gather info - What is the best way to distribute these forms so that when returned completed the information can be gathered? I tried distributing via email which seems to work ok but the files might end up being too large for email so what is the best way to gather the completed info if say the files were ftp'd back?
Minor:
There are several minor change requests that I know are doable or that if not possible we can disregard. One that I am not sure about is if the color of the arrows in Acrobat can be changed from the default red?
At first I was assuming that the Clients that get the forms needed Acrobat Standard or Pro 8 or 9 because I thought that the only way to add images was to use the Touch-Up Tool under advanced tools and right click to Place images. However I am pretty sure that if Reader Rights is enabled that images can be copy pasted into the file too if this is incorrect please let me know.
If the above is not doable or if there is a better solution other than Acrobat forms to gather client information including allow the client to add images and place arrows then please let me know your thoughts.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and again id like to commission this out to anyone who is up for the challenge.

I Need Dire Help Making a Flash Form

Hello, I need some serious help creating a Flash Form.
I Have used a template from another site with the following
input boxes:
Name: __________
Email: __________
Comments: ____________
However, i had the script working fine, along with its php
script,
when i was trying to add more "text" boxes, i must have
messed the script up somhow.
When I submit that form, the name is send and email, but the
email is blank.. ie, there is no "comments"

Ive spent days and days trying to work out how to first make
a form that actually works, then add more text fields
Ive looked at many basic form tutorials, but they all seem to
only have 3 or 4 text fields.. Name, Email, Comments... etc
I haven't a clue how to edit the script both in action script
and php to add more fields easy.
I really need some help with this, its turning into a
nightmare for me.
I can provide someone with my .fla project file if they care

This is all about timelines. It seems there is a movieclip
named 'form' (or possibly an actionscript object, can't tell). Any
variables created on that timeline are sent.
So you could have your new textfields on another timeline.
Or you could have textfields with no instance name in the
form timeline.
Those are the first two things to look at. Post the FLA and
we can tell you more specifically.

I have been creating forms in InDesign and pulling into Acrobat XI Pro to do form fields. My client would like to fill in the PDF form using Reader, save under a different name locally on their device, and redistribute. The problem I have is that, sometimes, they want to redistribute the form as Read Only. I know how to flatten the form on a mobile device, but uncertain how they can do that with a PC or Mac using Adobe Reader. I looked at FormsCentral thinking there might be a solution going that route, but don't believe there is. Any advice?

FormsCentral won't help with flattening a form. You could set up the form in Acrobat so that the fields are set to read-only, using JavaScript. Not quite the same as flattening but it's the best Reader can do.
Note that when Reader is used to e-sign a document, it gets flattened, but this won't be possible if you need to Reader-enable the form and under certain other conditions.

Search Help on Adobe Interactive Form with Web Dynpro ABAP

Hi All,
I have created Adobe Interactive Form with ZCI type and XML based interface type using Webdynpro ABAP.
I placed a text field USER_NAME on the form ( data element is linked to search help USER_COMP ).
Added Native WD UI element 'Value Help' to form to search for users and changed script
*var fieldName = "INSERT_NAME_HERE*"; to var fieldName = "USER_NAME";
The problem is that when I click on the value help button, nothing happens.
Is any more additional steps required ?

Help on Id cs5 forms for Acrobat Pro 9

Hi. I am trying to create an Id cs5 form for import into acrobat pro 9. The form is a Nutrition label, so is very specific in FDA regulations. Therefore I cannot have underscores nor boxes appearing to indicate fields. Am I missing some work around here? Thanks for any help (if the answer is obvious, my apologies. Cannot find any information helping with this, and am relatively new to In design).

You can't actually create a live form in InDesign CS5. That's a new feature in InDesign CS6.
What you have to do is prepare the appearance of form (e.g., boxes which will become text fields) and use the Form Field Recognition feature in Acrobat 9 Pro to turn it into form fields.

As with the addition ON VALUE-REQUEST the field psel_low_high
is either the name of a report parameter or of the form sel-LOW
or sel-HIGH, where sel is the name of a selection criterion.
When the user presses F1 on the relevant field, the subsequent
processing block is executed. You can thus implement a
self-programmed help for the input/output fields of the
selection screen. If the program contains such an event and the
user presses F1, the system processes this rather than
displaying the documentation of the Dictionary field - even if
the report parameter or the selection option with LIKE or FOR
points to a Dictionary field.
