Help my audio doesn't work on my MacBook Pro

Ok so this is whatt happend: I was just on my Mac with my headphones, than decided to stop, so I pulled my headphones out. The next day I want to watch some videos but my audio didn't work, I went system prefrence and to "sound" to "input" and my mute was off, the sound was up, and the "Internal-Speakers" was slected.

1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar
    Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

Hmm, that is very strange. I agree with MichelB that it's probably best just to get the PDF, but you can try going to your username>library>preferences and deleting:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 settings
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 paths
To see the library, click the Go menu in the Finder and hold down the option key and it will appear below the little house for your user account. While you're in there it wouldn't be a bad idea to go to the Saved Application States folder and delete anything pertaining to PSE.
Repair permissions and see if that does it.

  • My Dock or Expose doesn't work on my MacBook Pro...

    Hello,
I've been having issues with my MacBook Pro and I need some help immediately.
    The current issues are:
    - My Dock doesn't show up on desktop
    - My Expose doesn't work
    - When I tried to minimise opened page it freezes at weird shape (I can still force quit the programme)
    - Some function of searching in finder is behaving funny
What I can think of I've done wrong in past hours:
    - I tried to install Winebottler as I wanted to open Windows.exe file for my work
    - I did install them and opened them, from Winebottoler I tried to install 'Windows Media Player 10'
    - It automatically started to installing but during that computer started to behave funny
    - So I tried to uninstall Wine and Winebottler from Application, deleted them and empty the trash
    - Still having the same issues so I went Application folder to see if there's any Windows related app left that I just installed.
    - When I scroll down to the bottom, the finder closes it self off and reopen Application folder!
    - Also when I try to search 'windows media player' on the finder it closes itself and it doesn't let me serach it.
Is this some kind of bug? I thought Mac wouldn't get virus but maybe I was wrong.
Tried to turn the computer on and off again, or restart, or relaunch the finder, it just doesn't work.
I need to fix this ASAP so please give me any solutions if you think of any.
    Thank you!

What about holding down the shift key? What about holding down the c key and booting to the OS installer disk?

  • My exfat hard drive doesn't work on my macbook pro

It's the latest macbook pro. Bought yesterday!! Excited!! Thanks

    sorry.
It's a WD harddrive. I used to you it for my mac desktop. I have then had a pc laptop for a couple of years. I have had to use macdrive to allow this to work. I thought that when I would plug it into my macbook it should work fine.
It's now showing it is an exfat format. I have read reviews that this should work well on mac and windows?
To find the external harddrive on the mac I need to go to disk utilities and I can see it. It does not allow me to access what is on it though.
i'm trying to think of what I can do so I can use it on the mac book. If I copy it onto a different hardrive, then reformat it. How would I then get it back onto my mac?
Sorry. Hope that helps a little more? Thanks for your time.

  • IMovie doesn't work on my Macbook pro

Hi, I got my MacBook Pro 1 month and a half ago and when I got it, iMovie was working but I didn't use it yet. So, today I tried to open it but it doesn't work anymore. It seems like it's not installed, I searched for some folders and I don't find anything but a folder of plugins for iMovie. I also tried to download it but I'm not able to. I'd like to know if it's possible to get iMovie again? Thanks!
Sorry if there's some mistake, I'm not completely bilingual.

Hello and welcome to the discussions!
Your iMovie09 application should be found in your Applications folder. If it is there, but just 'not working anymore' you do not need to reinstall it.
You cannot download iMovie. It is part of the iLife 09 applications that must be purchased, or it came preloaded on your MacBook.
    Try this:
    Close iMovie
Go to your Home folder (the one with the house icon and your user name)
Within the Home folder locate the Library
    Then Preferences
Then find the file. com.apple.imovie.plist (there may be a number, as imovie8)
Drag this plist file to the Trash. Don't worry. iMovie will create a new fresh preference file when you relaunch it.
Open iMovie and see if it works properly.
If not, post back for more assistance.

  • HT201240 Cmd+s doesn't work on my macbook pro zly0q

I have a macbook pro z0lyq. I forgot my password. Cmd + s doesn't work. I have not got mac dvd. When i try cmd + r, mac is want pwd again.

If cmd+r asks for a password, it may well be that a firmware password is set.
With Lion models, you'll have to take it to an authorised Apple Repairer to get it reset.

  • 17" Cinema Display doesn't work with new MacBook Pro

I have used a 17" Cinema Display with a MacBook Pro without problems for the last year. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. Hooked it up and no display. Reconnected to my olf MBP without the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and it still works great. Any thoughts?

I have the same machine and the same drive (for about 6 months) they work fine.
The first suspect is the internal SATA cable, replace it.

  • Thunderbolt to Ethernet Adapter doesn't work with Retina MacBook Pro

I can't seem to connect to Ethernet with my Retina MacBook Pro. I bought an adapter and when I plugged it in, the network setup assistant showed that I was connected to the internet but my web browsers (Safari, Firefox and Chrome) couldn't connect, nor could any other programs (like Mail). The error message said that my computer was not connected to the internet, which did not match what Network Diagnositcs said. After a phone call with Apple Support, I had a replacement adapter mailed to me. With the new adapter, my computer now says that it is connected to the internet and I even have an IP address, but programs still can't connect and I get an error message saying the DNS lookup failed. This happens even when I manually enter the DNS server. I have already tried running the Thunderbolt software update 1.2.1 as well as the recent Thunderbolt firmware update, but the installer says they are not compatible with my computer. The problem occurs for both Thunderbolt ports. Is anyone else having this issue? I have no problem connecting to WiFi, so my temporary work around is using internet sharing on my old MacBook, which can connect to the ethernet connection in my apartment with no problems.

Hmm. Well I tried rebooting with wifi off but that didn't fix things for me. Would you mind sharing what your System Information says under Thunderbolt? This is what mine looks like:

  • Single user (command-S) Doesn't Work on 2009 Macbook Pro

For the first time since I purchased my MacBook Pro (mid 2009 build date) and I find the Command S command on bootup has no effect. Is it a hardware issue or a software problem. I've  tried other pre-bootup commands and the only one that works is Option to change the boot HD.

What about holding down the shift key? What about holding down the c key and booting to the OS installer disk?

  • Importing causes pixelation and image resize doesn't work - Elements 13 Macbook Pro

As I import any photos, from any place, when I open them, they appear pixelated. I watched some tutorials and used image resize, which doesn't do anything but change the size, even if the resolution is turned up. I also saw something about preferences, which didn't do anything, all versions are up to date. What is the problem? Why will it never change?

    Hello Smis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues with your HP Monitor on your MAC. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, where it states under the sub-heading Using HP monitors on a Mac "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
This being said all I can advise is that you check to see that the monitor is set to operat at 60Hz and contact Apple for assistance if that does not get your monitor displaying correctly.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • EMail doesn't work on my MacBook Pro.

I try to get my mail via the Mail application on OSX, and it has always said my password is wrong. But if i went to safari and went to the actual email site and entered my password there it logs me in just fine. I dont understand why it keeps saying my password is wrong when its really not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In mail, click window then connection doctor to see if it gives you any additional information.
Sometimes, you can get that message if your name under the incoming mail server isn't fully qualified. For example, for at&t, they require the form "[email protected]" while some other mail services are OK with just "userid".

  • My 'accent pop up' doesn't work in my MacBook Pro with Lion...

I hold a key for a tima and the accent pop up does'nt appear. What should i do to make it appear? I NEED this since i'm brazilian and our words use accent...

What happens if you just use the appropriate dead keys to place accents? For example, pressing option and u, then releasing those keys and entering a vowel, will give you a vowel with an umlaut: ö, ü, ä. Option and e followed by e gives you é. And so on. You can also turn on the keyboard and character viewer so that it appears as a menu option.

  • 802.11n Enabler Doesn't work with 17" MacBook Pro (2.16) Intel Core Duo

While I would believe that the computer does meet the requirements and that it does have the extreme card and after following the instructions -- checking the network utility ap, etc. It is very strange that you get a "Alert: Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update." So you don't think that I am a fool, I did check the Network Utility and there is no "n" so it was never updated.
Is there any way to do this manually?
    Thanks in advance.

The Core Duo machines don't have the newer Extreme card whose chipset supports 802.11n.
You can do some potentially warranty-voiding surgery, however, to replace the MBP's stock card with the Mac Pro Airport Extreme Upgrade card, which supports 802.11n and is plug-compatible with the MBP's stock card. It's available for $49 from places like PowerMax and Small Dog.
