Help Needed! Very Slow MacBook

Hello, I am new to the Support Community.
I have a basic Macbook, I bought in beginning of 2010. It has slowed down dramatically in the last few months, I have tried cleaning out old files and it hasn't worked I have barely anything I can see that would be taking up so much of the hardrive! I was thinking I might wipe my macbook then reinstall it from the disks in my Macbook box. However if I do this can I use the time machine to restore my iTunes Library?
Any further info needed let me know.
Thanks in advance.

I was thinking I might wipe my macbook then reinstall it from the disks in my Macbook box.
Yes, you can retore your iTunes Library using Time Machine but since you are running Lion you need to use Lion Recovery to reinstall the Mac OS X, not the install discs that came with your Mac.
Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Hello! Do you actually use DIVX? If not, remove it from your Mac. It's known to be a buggy application and even though there's nothing wrong with DIVX itself it has become a platform for malicious pushers of adware and malware to sneak stuff onto your computer while installing. If you carefully installed the official DIVX nothing should be wrong.
Below are extra steps in case DIVX isn't the solution:
The goal here is to boot your Mac to the so-called Recovery partition where you’ll have a chance to repair the disk and the disk permissions using the Disk Utility and Password Utility. This might solve your issue and even if it doesn’t- it’s still a decent maintenance step to perform. These steps won’t erase your data or reinstall your Mac in any way if you follow instructions carefully.
    Here’s how:
1/ Make sure your computer is completely shut down.
2/ You’ll have to be quick next: Press the Mac’s power button. As soon as you either hear the loud chime, or see the display light up - usually after a second or 2 - on your keyboard press [cmd] + [r] Keep these keys on your keyboard pressed until you either see an Apple Logo with a loading bar or a spinning gear.
After a few minutes, you’ll be presented with a Utilities screen. This is the Recovery partition. If this step is already giving you problems, try using a USB-keyboard. It doesn’t have to be an Apple-keyboard. If you have a Windows-tailored keyboard laying around, use the “Windows-flag” key in stead of the [cmd]-key and it should also work.
3/ Choose Disk Utility and click [continue]
Disk Utility will display your computer’s harddrive in the left column. The default name for it is “Macintosh HD” and is usually the second one from the top. Click on it and click on the [verify disk] button. This will check your “Macintosh HD” harddrive partition for errors. If found, click [repair disk]  unless you have a Fusion drive in your Mac and it says [fix] instead of [repair disk] please tell us before you continue! For a screenshot of what I mean, check this article from Apple: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202574
4/ Once done with the verifying or repairing of your “Macintosh HD” click [repair disk permissions]
This will check your partition for permissions errors. A common myth about this feature is that it will fix all permissions issues on your Mac, which is not true, but it will fix most systemwide issues. Also, here is a list of error messages that you can safely ignore if they pop up:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203172
5/ Lastly we shall do a permissions/Access Control List repair on specifically your user’s home folder with a somewhat hidden tool in the Recovery partition. Close Disk Utility and find the menu called “utilities” in the top left corner of your computer’s display. It’s in between the menus “edit” and “window” Don’t be confused with the menu called “os x utilities”
Choose Terminal. A somewhat old-fashioned looking window will pop up, waiting for a text command from you. This is the Terminal.
After the # type: resetpassword and press return. Note that there is no space between ‘reset’ and ‘password’
What you’ll see next is an rectangular window that gives you the option to reset passwords. We are not going to that, however. Instead, click on “Macintosh HD” at the top. In the pull-down menu below that, choose your user's accountname. Skip all the rest and at the very bottom click the [reset]-button.
A spinning gear will appear and may stay on for a second or several minutes. It’s hard to predict exactly how long.
If you have multiple users on your Mac, I advise you to repeat this step for all your users.
We’re ready to reboot your Mac now. Click on the Apple Menu and choose “startup disk” Choose to boot from “Macintosh HD” Please let us know if this solved your issue, or if the steps above did not work, or could not be performed for some reason.

  • Please help! Very slow wired connection as well!

    Hi guys!
I really need some help here... I received my very first Macbook Pro yesterday and once I begun using it I noticed I was having the exact same problem as many people here with wi-fi connection: even though the system says I'm connected (full bars!) I can barely surf the web - it's either too slow or doesn't connect at all.
Ok, after reading many posts around here I decided to swith to the wired conncetion and update the whole system to see if anything changed with the wi-fi issue, but I was surprised to find out that the cable conncetion had the exact same problem!! It either won't connect at all or it will take more than 2 minutes (!!) to open a page (Apple's website, for instance). That's unacceptable, I have a high speed internet service at home!!
Also, the problem is not with my internet service, right now I'm writing from a netbook connect to the wi-fi net just fine....
Any thoughts, suggestions, pleeeeaaase???? I really wanted to love my experience with my Macbook and I didn't want to return it (it's got a gorgeous screen!!) but it's useless without an internet connection.... By the way, my router is a Linksys.
    Thank you, guys!!
    Renata

    Hi, sig!
My router is WRT54G Linksys with updated firmware. My modem is TG508 Thomson, I´m pretty sure with a not updated firmware.
This morning I called apple and we fixed the wi-fi issue using open dns servers, it´s now working properly.
However, surprisingly the wired connection is still not working!! The apple lady told me to update my modem firmware and in case connection isn´t restablished after that procedure to take it to an apple tech for support since it´s then probably a hardware issue. I´ll try the modem firmware update but I´m obviously not taking it anywhere (my MAC is 3 days old!), if update doesn´t work I´ll rather return the machine.
I still have one doubt though: should that open DNS procedure been done also for the wired connection (ethernet)?? I understand nothing of that procedure (as you can see! all I know is it has been done exclusively for airport connection....
    Thank you for your attention!!
    Renata

  • Very slow MacBook Pro. Probably some kind of virus.

    Hey guys,
I'm helping a friend of mien to repair her computer. Yesterday she wanted to watch a film online and on one of this sides she even clicked on updating her flash player. Afterwards the Mac didn't work anymore and after a restart continued  very slow and she probably has some kind of virus. Even writing this text takes forever because the computer is so slow.
I've already done a system check with etrecheck and also tried to find the virus with avira. But this you also see in the report.
So It would be great if anyone could help us.
    Problem description:

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

The one thing that sticks out is Firefox is using an excessive amount of CPU resources.  Delete Firefox and see if there is an improvement.

  • Very slow Macbook after updating to Yosemite.

    Two questions;
    1) I updated to Yosemite a few days ago and like it. But my macbook (2013) is now running very slow. I have done all the latests software updates.
In the Activity Monitor, a process called DesktopServicesHelper (PID 1681) take up 99% of my CPU%. What is this and why? How do I fix it? Please help!
    2) Also in the Activity Monitor, there is a process which is not responding, called com.apple.geod (PID 1703). What is this? What does it mean? How do I fix it?

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • Help: A very slow Powerbook

All of a sudden my PowerBook G4 has become very slow. I get lots of beachballs while it is thinking what to do. It takes 5 minutes to restart and sometimes 5-10 seconds just to open a folder (with a beachball while I wait). All apps are running slow. I have a 60 GB Hard drive with 6.5 GB free space. I just run repair permissions (nothing needed to be repaired) and I veriified the drive with HD utility and it said it is OK. Here is the info on my system: Machine Name:PowerBook G4 12"Machine Model:PowerBook6,4 CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1) Number Of CPUs:1 CPU Speed:1.33 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU):512 KB Memory:768 MB Bus Speed:167 MHz

I am getting ready to through this computer out the window. I cleaned my drive, I ran Onyx, Clean Sweep, Apple Hardware Test (how good is this, anyway? it said the memory and the drive were fine), Disk Utility repair permissions, repair disk and everybody said the computer is fine, but remained slow, slow, slow. I ordered DiskWarrior update about 1 week ago, but it has not even shipped out. I reinstalled (with achieve) my OSX 10.4 (did not bother to update to 10.4.10). It takes the computer 5 minutes to startup (time to get me to login window) and another 5 minutes to load my desktop (I only have the drive image and 3 files there). Takes 3 minutes to shutdown. Just trying to open a folder gives me a beachball and 5-10 seconds to open. Beachballs, beachballs, beachballs all the time. I guess my last resort is to completely reformat my disk. Does anybody have any final suggestions, before this goes out to the dump?

  • Bex input help (F4) very slow response times

When running queries on some of our InfoCubes or ODSs (in 3.5 of 2004s) we are getting a very slow response when using the Input Help (F4) option.  We have looked at the article the Nov/Dec 2004 BW Expert and the following SAP Notes 626887, 661251, 626887, 817335, 567746, 581802 and 748623. None of these are of much help.  We did not seem to have this problem before the upgrade to 2004s.
Anyone have any other ideas?  The users are wanting it fixed.

F4 help behaviour has changed in 04s 3.5 web run time.
See attached thread for a solution (not very helpful in some cases.).

  • Very slow MacBook Pro - EtreCheck

    Hi everyone,
My MacBook Pro is going extremely slow lately with all things from start up to shutdown and everything I seem to do in between. It has occasionally frozen too and currently sounds as if it is about to take off into flight.
I have done an EtreCheck and pasted it below but am almost a complete technophobe and dont understand a thing.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

You have the Trusteer Rapport software installed. In spite of continued efforts by its developer, it is still not a stable Mac product. It causes huge problems with Safari.

Make sure the DivX player is up to date. Outdates versions have been problematic. If you don;t need it, uninstall it.

  • Help with very slow old palm desktop 1.0 for MAC

    No device
Hi- I am a happy user of Palm m515, and hot synch it to a very old Mac that runs palmpilot desktop 1.0 , cause I like the printouts. Recently, it would start to  open the desktop, but it wouldn't open, I think due to out of memory. I purged calendar and todo from my handheld (which I had not done for years), and hot synced it. Address book & memos synced normally, and the syncing of todo's took hours, and I'm not sure it was successful. However, afterwords, I was able to re-open the desktop, and it works, but it is painfully slow, basically not functional.
I realize this is legacy stuff, but if there is anyone out there who has suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it.
And, I have an old iMac G5 that I am about to retire and buy a new iMac, and if anyone has suggestions for replacing the handheld with one that will run a good todo/task program (and recommendation for that one), also much appreciated.
And if there is a way for me to transfer the data from handheld m515 to my new iMac?
    Thanks

I had an identical experience when I first got my handheld - the palm software wouldn't install on my iMac properly - the same error came up every time, and while it had successfully installed the desktop, hotsync manager was sadly missing. I spent hours playing with it to no avail, and the only solution I found was using it on my macbook running 10.5x (as opposed to 10.2.8). However, the date on the installer (2002) reflects the last time it was updated, which means that it should run with no difficulty on any machine since then. The .sit compression has nothing to do with it - it is one of the most common compression formats for the macintosh platform. It might help if you posted the exact error message you got, but a fairly common fix is to repair disk permissions for your hard drive in disk utility.
    Hope this helps

  • Urgent Help needed? Slow browse & download?

    Hi,
THanks for clicking on my post.
I am having this STRANGE problem, I am getting extremely slow download and youtube video speeds, the videos are very choppy, the download speed drops and almost every 2-3 seconds, takes forever to download. There is nothing wrong with my internet as I use XP using Parallels and it works just fine also other computers on network are fine (mind you, all are XPs!) but this MBP of mine is having this issue and its driving me crazy,
Have done alot of reading, but no luck so far. I hope someone here can help me, I am very very frustrated.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Thank you all for the replies.
I have tried all of that.
Actually the problem is not with Safari or the MAC itself. Actually what has happened is that my ISP here in Oman has blocked the VOIP and it seems that is causing some issues, I was told by someone that it has to do with time stamps tracing...etc not really sure. This is really driveing me crazy. It works just fine with XP, I was told, Mac has some problems on being tracked on network, and thats why time stamp or something on those lines is causing this issue, the speed keeps dropping from the ISP.
    Thanks

  • Help: flash very slow on Mac 10.8.2

So I just installed Creative Cloud CS6 and everything is blazing fast... Photoshop opens in less than 3 seconds... So does Illustrator.
Flash Pro takes like 1 minute to open. It gets stuck in "Building Workspace". Clicks have a 3 or 4 second delay. It's impossible to work like that...
I need to start working on a project next monday... I will report the bug, but maybe someone here has a trick that may help me. I'm desperate...
I've updated to the lastest Flash CS6 version. 12.0.2.529
    I've already recreated preferences.
Mac OS Console points this problem when launching the app
"Adobe Flash CS6[6074]: The function `CGSFlushWindow' is obsolete and will be removed in an upcoming update. Unfortunately, this application, or a library it uses, is using this obsolete function, and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system performance. Please use `CGSFlushWindowContentRegion' instead."
    And this dozens of times
"Adobe Flash CS6[6326]: CGSSetRegisteredCursor: Invalid connection"
I'm on Mac Os 10.8.2 , with latest Java Machine updated. Macbook Pro with core i7, 8gb of ram, etc.
Please any hep will be appreciated.

It seems the problem is solved. I think it was a conflict with Fontcase.
I rebooted in safe mode, opened flash, it seemed to work better...
    Rebooted normally.
Opened flash, still giving problems. I notice in Activity Monitor that a fontd process is conusming 100%, and goes away when I close flash.
Uninstalled Fontcase by sending it to the trash.
Now Flash opens in less than 10 seconds. There's still a spinning wheel when "Initializing UI", but the software seems to work properly. No more lag in the mouse clicks.
    Man what a night...

  • Help with very slow connection if apple tv linked to wireless apple keyboard

My husband and I trying to connect the wireless Apple keyboard to our Apple tv so we can get rid of the pesky and cumbersome Apple tv clicker. However, when we do so, our connection slows to a crawl and we cannot access sites like Netflix et al. We disconnected Bluetooth from our Mac Book Pro as we noticed that the keyboard serves only one master. This did not fix the problem. We are at our wits' end. Your help would be immensely appreciated.
Oh, and also, I had been thinking of installing AirPort Utilty. Is this a good idea and why do I not see it in the AppStore, only on websites of dubious provenance?

Er, and while we're at it, why do we need to choose between my apple address and my husband's when we set up homesharing? This is another clunky thing that simply is opaque.

However, when we do so, our connection slows to a crawl and we cannot access sites like Netflix et al.
Not caused by the keyboard.  It connects via BluTooth, the video services over eithernet.  They have nothing to do with one another.  There is something else going on.  Have you tried connecting ATV via a wired connection instead of WiFi.
why do we need to choose between my apple address and my husband's when we set up homesharing?
Because you can only use one AppleId.  It would be a huge leagal mess if it displayed content from multiple accounts at the same time.  The copyright holders would never allow it.

  • Basic help needed very much

    Hi,
I have an Epson 3800 printer and Adobe Elements 7 (Epson advised me that I should buy some version of Photoshop to take full advantage of the printers capabilities).....Problem is need basic info on how to set all the buttons to make a decent print. There are many, many choices on various drop down tabs all through the process of making a print. Also, It seems that all my pictures are 72 ppi ...is this a default setting ? Or, did I do something wrong when I downloaded them from my camera ?  PLEASE help !   If at all possible someone could guide me through the process step by step I would be very, very grateful.  I need guidance from the download, through the myriad of buttons (ie: color management, size selections (why do I have to tell both Elements and the printer the size of my paper?!!$#@) what's up with 72ppi on all my pics, if i change to 300 ppi wont pics get worse ? )
I called Epson and asked them to walk me through a print but they wouldnt because  they said  I'm going through Elements first and that is not their responsibility!  BUT THEY ADVISED ME TO GET ELEMENTS IN THE FIRST PLACE !!!
Please help...I am an artist (painter) ...my website is www.theeastcoastartist.com I will send a free 8 X 10 signed print of a painting to anyone that can help me get a decent print or just tell me which settings to make each step of the way.
    Thanks,
    Frank

Frank, here's a couple links to tutorials that may help. They use Photoshop but the print settings in Elements are similar enough.

As far as the resolution, stated in pixels per inch (ppi), the images from your camera have a fixed number of pixels, so resolution is determined by the size of the print...the larger the print, the larger the pixels, the lower the resolution. 300 ppi is considered optimum for printing...higher won't hurt, lower than 250 ppi may start to be noticable.

  • Very slow macbook pro 2.2 Ghz OS X Mountain Lion

Hi - since my update to Mountain Lion my Macbook Pro works rather slow. Any idea why this is and what could be done to solve this? Some Hardware information might help:
    OS X 10.8.2
MacBook Pro with 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
    100 GB HD
Macbook is linked to TimeMachine (LAN)
Thanks for any idea / support.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.
