Help - Photos ruined my photo book project

I've been working on a project in iPhoto to create a photo book of my trip to Ireland last year.  Had spent about 6 hours on this, and was about 2/3 of the way through.  Got a notice today to download Photos, so I did so.  However, when I opened the project in Photos, it totally rearranged all my photos, to the point that all I can do with the existing project is to start from scratch.
I am running Time Machine.  Is there any way that I can restore the prior version of the project, and then be able to continue working on it in Photos without Photos rearranging all the photos?
Thanks in advance for your help.

That was originally impossible, as iPhoto was removed from my Mac when Photos was installed. However, I was able to recover iPhoto (and the project) from Time Machine

  • How to migrate photos from a Photo Book project to Photo Album

Is there a way to move the photos I've collected in my Apple Photo Book project file back into my Photo Library as a single album?  The originals were spread out over 5 years. Took me a while to find them, then save them to this project file.   I want to save this condensed group of images back to one album in my Photo Library for easy access.  Though the pics were taken over a 5 year period, they are of the same, favorite vacation spot.
I have OX 10.10.3 running Photos.  Have iCloud sync.
    Thanks!
    Hayden

    Hi Godfrey,
Make a new album in the source column naming it after your book
Highlight the book in the source column
Start at the first page of your book
Drag each image from the book into the new album in the source column.
This can only be done one by one. I have tried "selecting all" and it does not work.

  • Can't Find my Photo Book Project?!

I was in the middle of adding pictures to my photo book project and it gave me the little round "I'm thinking" Icon and it was taking forever, it sat for more than 5 minutes so I did a hard shut down.
When I restarted my Mac my whole project was gone!! All of my pictures are still there in the events section but the project is nowhere to be found. Please tell me I didn't just loose hours of work!? Where does iPhoto store projects by default.
Also I have Time Machine and I tried to back up the entire iPhoto application and still no luck. Is there somewhere where my project is hiding?
Please give me some advice, thanks!!

    Dana:
For a quicker and easier way to recover from similar losses in the future see the tip at the end of my signature below. You can run the referenced application as frequently as you want, after every import, every change to a book or calendar, etc. like you would use the Save command in other applications. iPhoto does not have to be closed to use it, just idle. If the problem exists, just replace the damaged database file with the backup version and you're back up and running.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Large photo book project - lots of questions

I have 680+ pictures I want to put in a Wirebound photo book.
(It's a book of Matchbook covers, arranged by dominant color.)
I have the pictures grouped in folders (according to major color).
Iphoto only seems to import ALL the photos and removes the folders and grouping.
The only grouping I have available is "Last Import", "Last 12 Months" and "Recent" (which are not the pics).
    1) Is there any way to maintain the folder structure so I can import the pictures into the photo book in the order I would like?
The autoflow feature doesn't work because it will group all the pics (without folder organization) into the book, organized by name.
    3) How can I find out the dimensions of each photo "slot" so I can reduce pictures to fit in the slot without losing some of the image?
For example, since there are so many pictures, I chose the 16 photos/page option but the only layout available is a "square" type slot. Some of the horizontal images (long matchbooks) get chopped off and the image-size slider is already at the smallest setting. So: what's the size for each slot?
    4) Isn't there some sort of option where you can just drag the images into the page and iphoto will adapt the layout for the image? (But maintaining the maximum number of pictures on each page/layout?
Any help or insight will be immensely helpful!
    Thank you!!

Photo slots do not have "dimensions" - they are a ratio - typically square 1x1 or rectangular 4x3 - You can fit a photo to the frame in most layouts by right clicking on the placed photo and selecting fit to frame
Isn't there some sort of option where you can just drag the images into the page and iphoto will adapt the layout for the image? (But maintaining the maximum number of pictures on each page/layout?
In some layouts for some themes the direction of the frame changes with the placed photo - in others it does not - you simply have to experiment to find the ones that do
This write up on iphoto '09  --  http://www.iphotobookthemes.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HomePage  --  explains some and shows examples of the '09 layouts - in general those are still valid in '11 and there are lots more

  • How do I share my photo book project with my other computer?

I have started creating a photo book in iPhoto on my iMac.  I would like to continue to work on it on my macbook.  Is there a way of sharing the project via iCloud or some other way?
    Please help

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Updating newly imported photos into my photo book project

I am making a photo book but I am missing a lot of my photos in the little thumbnails above the project. I started this book awhile ago and it seems that the photos I am missing are ones I have uploaded to Iphoto since I started this project. How can I get the new photos included in the project so I can add them to my book?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To add photos to a book project just drag and drop them onto the book icon in the left hand pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do I find completed photo book project

Hi, I completed a photobook project a couple of years ago and had a hard copy made. I would like to retrieve that project so I can download the photos. Please tell me how I can do that and also how I can order another photo book of the one I had completed before. Thanks.

    Hey Bernadette,
After you create a book, it is saved in iPhoto, and you can open and view your books in the Bookshelf in full-screen view and from the Source list in the iPhoto main window.
To open a book in the iPhoto main window:
Click the book name in the Source list.
The book appears in All Pages view.
To get information about a book, position the pointer over the book’s name at the top of the window.
If you're in full-screen mode and want to open a previous book project, or you just want more info, you can find it here:
iPhoto '11: Open and view an existing photo book

  • Sharing a photo book project with family members

I created and purchased a photo book in iPhoto and I'd like to share with my family members so they can also buy the book.  Is that possible?

You could reduce a copy of your library to just those photos in the book  with the book and send that smaller library. This tutorial describes how: #9 - Archiving an iPhoto 7(08)/8(09)/9(11) Book for Editing and/or Ordering at a Later Date.

  • Printing a Photo Book project in Elements 10

I am wanting to create a book, for home printing, to cataloge the life of my new dog. It could therefore eventually contain a large number of pages and I will need to add pages as time goes by.
But I would also want to print pages as they are designed and add them to the binder on a regular basis.
Problem is that I have been completely unable to find any option for printing selected pages.
The programme only seems to be capable of printing the whole project, which means that if I have 50 pages all of them will be printed once I hit the Print button.
I have searched all of the print options, page set up otions etc. but cannot find anything that allows me to print, say, pages 25-30.
Is there a solution to the problem please?

Windows or mac? On a mac, just choose the pages you want in the OS X print window that opens up after you click Print in the PSE print window. You may need to expand the window by clicking the arrow next to the printer's name (10.6) or by clicking Show Details (10.7).
In windows, you do this in the printer preferences:

  • Unable to complete photo book order on ipad

Hi, I hope this is the right place to get some help. Regarding placing an iphoto photo book order on an ipad.
I have been working on a photo book project for a long time, and want to finally order some copies of the book. Everything has worked fine, except that I get a message that I have some clipped text that may be exceeding its boundaries. I can't figure out where this is, no warning triangles are showing, so I choose to proceed with the order anyway. The next page is black/dark grey with a small icon of the front page of the photo book, and it says "done" ("ferdig" in Norwegian) on top. I can click on some words in blue writing on the top right of the page, "add delivery address" (in Norwegian). When I try to type somehing in there, nothing happens.
Aaargh, this is so frustrating! I have checked that my address and credit card info is valid, in my apple id-account(itunes).
Shouldn't there be some uploading of the album? And a choice of how many copies etc I want? I have checked my email and there are no order confirmations, so I apparently havent placed an order yet, despite the "done"/"ferdig" on top of the page.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? What can I do?

    Hey there Nyibyen,
It sounds like you are unable to purchase a project youve been working on for a good long while, but the order process is not working as expected. I would start by verifying you have Express Checkout enabled in your Account Settings when you are at http://store.apple.com, with this info:
You can review or edit your express checkout settings by accessing the Account section from the main navigation bar. Sign-in with your Apple ID and password to view your account settings. Click on the Edit button if you wish to edit your shipping address or payment method. You can also enable or disable the express checkout feature for this computer by moving the slider to the respective position.
    From: Express Checkout
              http://store.apple.com/us/help/express_checkout_faq
If so and your other billing info is correct, quit all the running apps on the iPad:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue is still unresolved, try resetting your network settings and attempting the order again.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
From: iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • Splitting one photo book into two?

Hi, I have prepared one photo book (project) with iPhoto using the maximum of 100 pages (3 weeks US!!). Now, a friend shared his pics with me that I'd like to add. Can I split the one book in two with say 50 pages and continue addingnew pages with the spliited ones?
Plus: Can I move complete pages from one iPhoto book to another project (book)?
    Thx for your help!
    Frank

Select the book in the left hand pane and type Command+D (duplicate).  You can then modify each of the copies as needed.

  • How do I open the square photo books from iPad in iPhoto Mac ?

I began creating a square photo book on iPad (iOS7) and decided that I would create the book on my Macbook instead (Mavericks) - so I could access my full photo library.  However I can only see rectangular photo book templates on the Mac.
    Questions:
    - Is it user error or are the templates totally different on Mac and on IOS?
    - Is there any way to transfer a square photo book project from iPad to Mac via iTunes or iCloud?
    Thanks :-)

Just about the only thing iPhoto for Mac and iPhoto for iOS share is a name.
So, no, it's not user error, the templates are different
    and
No, there's no way to transfer any book project.

I am trying to add text to an I photo book project. I have entered the text inside the blue lines which indicate the boundaries but have got a red triangle showing I have exceeded the text. Any ideas please?

Check the font size, if it's just a little too close to the top of the box, it will reject it.

  • Photos missing from photo book

I have recently opened iPhoto and have gone to do another photo book/Project, and was just checking an older book I made and have noticed some photos are missing from the book/Project? They are also not in the Album with all the photos I used for the book? Does anyone have any idea where these could be? Could they have been removed from the iCloud? I do not remember deleting these images from iPhoto so is there any way of retreiving them from anywhere else?
    Many thanks, Ian

    and
Are they in an event anywhere?
What version of iPhoto and of the OS?

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
