I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID. Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine.

I am at Snow Leopard and have only played a bit in IMOVIE - so can't speak for Mavericks - but -
In general as I work a lot in Photoshop - when you are happy with something save it and continue on - If you have Time Machine Running and you want to try things next that may or may not work - force a time machine backup - that way the version you are happy with will be available for 24 hours (and wish this was a setting one could extend)
If you turn off your mac - or end a program without consciously saving something you may lose what you worked on.
If IMOVIE did not ask if you want to recover what you were doing your update may be gone - but try posting new question - asking about automatic backups in IMOVIE and how they work.

Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

That will work fine, but don't get rid of your AEBS. If your MBP is 802.11n, then you can enjoy the speeds of the TC on your MBP without having to select a b/g network so the iBook can play (which is what you'll have to do otherwise). Simply Connect the DSL modem to your TC WAN port via ethernet cable, then connect TC to your AEBS with another ethernet cable. Create one network name for the TC network (which your MBP will join), and a separate wireless network from the AEBS for the iBook. Make sure you're using bridge mode in your Airport Utility so that the AEBS can share the DSL network connection with the TC.
Sounds complicated, but this allows you to fully enjoy the TC (and "recycle" your AEBS). Good luck.

Help please! I have just installed Snow Leopard and now I can't access my gmail account. I can complete the sign in boxes ok but the blue indicator bar freezes and prevents access to my emails.

I have just installed Snow Leopard, (10.6.3) onto my Macbook Pro and so far it seems to be working fine except that I can't access my gmail account. I can sign in but the blue opening indicator freezes near the end and I can get no further. I'm a bit of a novice at this stuff - help please!

I would run the combo update to get to 10.6.8 in order to get the latest security updates and so forth. Then run Software Update until you system is current.

HELP!!! Won't hold a charge and connect to desktop manager

Called service provider, took to a cell phone repair shop, out of warranty and want to fix this **bleep** pearl 8130 by myself so i don't have to purchase another one (not sure i ever will after the last 3 hours of trying to fix it myself.
White screen when connected to a charge. At times it has a battery with a flash through it and at times an error code comes up. it does not hold a charge for long.
i've downloaded the newest software updat (i think)
i've tried the application loader in desktop manager.
taken the battery out and back in.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me before i throw the phone out my window????

What happened when you tried putting different battery in it? Did you ask to borrow one to test from the carrier?
Or did you purchase a new battery and try it?
Do you have the right battery for this series phone and is it an OEM Blackberry battery?

USB to FireWire converter cable, will it work?

There are a number of sellers on auction sites selling USB to FireWire (4-pin) converter cables. Will these work with iMovie in respect of connecting my Samsung MiniDV Digital (tape) camcorder? The seller claims they will, but I am skeptical based on what I've read on the internet - so I thought I'd ask the discussions for their advice/experience...?
FYI I'm using a 13 inch Alu MacBook prior to the inclusion of a FW port...

Despite Niel's great suggestion, the bottleneck is the USB connection into the Mac; even though it's possible to plug a FireWire adaptor into that USB/ExpressCard socket, the ultimate connection (..or combination..) has a USB specification.
USB delivers burst of high speed data, not continuous hi-speed data, which is what FireWire offers, and what miniDV camcorders send out. The camcorder won't be able to make proper contact with the Mac at the far end of the chain, so the computer won't "see" the camcorder, and nor will the camcorder be able to tell the computer "here I am, sending you a digital video-&-audio stream".
The connectors will all physically fit together ..just as you can physically pour paraffin (kerosene) into a car's petrol (gasoline) tank ..but that doesn't mean that the car will actually run with a tank full of kerosene ..or diesel fuel, for that matter.

Charging Cable ~ Should This Not Work?

Like many other I have found that my car charging cable does not work with my iPhone 3G, but I thought I had a solution, which as it turns out did not work ~ but why?
Previously when charging my other ipods in the car, I used a simple device which consisted of an adapter that went into the Cigar Lighter socket (Sorry Power Socket) which at the other end allowed a USB charging cable +(the same as the one used to charge via the computer USB port)+ to plug into it and the other into the iPod and then charge.
This worked just great. So if the cable which came with the iPhone 3G (I know its the same as all other such cables, but I was playing safe) works fine when connected to the computer and iPhone 3G Dock, +why when that cable is connected to my iPhone 3G and plugged into the cars power socket, does it not charge,+ bearing in mind that this new set-up will charge the ipods just as it did with the other older USB cable?
Can anyone enlighten me please or has anyone found a solution?

The adapter you have for you car's power outlet is attempting to charge the iPhone via the firewire pins in the dock port on the phone. In the iPhone 3G charging via the firewire pins has been eliminated, it now only works via the USB pins. Most car adapters will use firewire because it can carry 12V which is what the car is already supplying so no step down is needed because USB only does 5V.

Macbook pro Mini displayport to VGA/HDMI needs restart to work

I am having a strange problem. I have an original Apple mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and one non-apple mini-displayport to HDMI adapter. When I connect external monitor through either one of those it doesn't work unless i restart my computer. I tried different monitors but i see the same problem. Has anyone faced a similar problem? I checked online but didn't see any postings.
My macbook pro is relatively new (bought in april), i5 processor.

Sheduled rwrd rule. how should this work?

Dear gurus!
It's not clear for me how a sheduled rwrd rule should be set up and how it should behave.
I created the rwrd rule group and the rwrd rule with "Standard (Timed) (Expert Mode)" type.
the "regular" (not sheduled) rule statement is created to change the specified dynamic attribute which is assigned to the loyalty program. This works fine.
Now.
I chose "daily" frequency for the rule and created sheduled statement with the "edit sheduled rule" button. This statement targeted to reset the specified dynamic attribute if it is greater than 0.
The rule behaviour is quite strange for me: at the specified time several "timed execution" activities for different memberships were created. Some of them were processed ok others were processed with Error: No eligible rwrd rules. BUT in all cases the dynamic attribute was not reset.
Can somebody describe the right way to setup sheduled rwrd rules?

I am a newbie and trying to design my own site so please don't laugh too hard if this is an easy question.
I just created a site using Flash CS4 then published to Dreamweaver CS4, then published to server using Dreamweaver via FTP. All files seem to be on server ( .swc, .fla, .html. f4v, .flv) but .f4v video won't playback on the internet.

video plays fine in Flash when testing movie and video works fine when checking in browser with Dreamweaver. Do I have to point to the video some how? I have tried everything that I know, please help.

I should have mentioned I use GarageBand 2009. I've read other posts all over the web where people have trouble with this Tascam US122 but with the older Leopard versions. I had no problem with ordinary Leopard 10.5.6 - it's only since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and it's only in GB.
I've tried a powered hub which has helped others, but doesn't help with my problem.
I reallly only want to know which driver/drivers are the problem.
Then I can work out a solution, even if it means buying a new interface. So long as I can't identify what the problem is, I'm not prepared to buy new equipment that might make no difference at all.

Help please! Imac won't start and running out of ideas

Help! My imac G4 Flat Panel running tiger won't boot or go beyond the grey screen, here's what happened,
I went away on holiday for ten days and unplugged it, on return it worked fine for the first few goes however after leaving it with alot of photos open for a couple of hours I returned and the screen had gone funny, showed the app window on top but not properly and grey on the bottom two thirds, I could just about move the mouse which was ghosting and it sort of worked but not properly, I switched it off on the power switch and rebooted and it was okay for a few more sessions until getting stuck with the mail app open, I tried to force quit but couldn't and eventually turned it off on the switch, after which it won't boot or go beyond the grey screen every time I switch it on, I've tried all the following with no joy:
-unplugged all peripherals
-taken out airport card and extra ram I'd fitted myself about six months ago
- done command, option, p and r on switching on, also command x and command option.
- tried to boot from the original os x cd which came with it - this gives me a broken mac symbol and multicoloured spinning ball
- boot from os9 disk which came with it this gives me a flashing question mark sometimes but most times just the grey screen.
- boot from apple hardware test diagnostic cd which came with it, just says loading and hangs
- boot from tiger dvd - shows the apple logo then a sign similar to no entry sign and spinning thing underneath.
I've tried rebooting about 100 times now, as it once did a similar thing about eight months ago but eventually booted okay and then I ran check permissions etc. and never had a problem until now.
I've put everything I can think of in in case any of it is important, apologies if there's too much extra info here but if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful, am a bit stuck without it, luckily I've backed up most of my stuff but there's some things I haven't. please help! thanks

Sorry to hear about your problem and I wish I had happy news. Sounds like what I am going through. Just spent over 200$ getting the Tiger upgrade installed at a Mac repair place because I wanted it done right, and had the RAM upgraded. After two weeks of bliss I get a gray screen with a spinning gear. The CD drawer wont open, nothing. Take it back to the shop and I find my hard drive is done. This is the SECOND hard drive. My G-4 came with a 40 gig HD, the one that they replaced it with 2 years ago was an 80 gig. I hope thats not whats going on with yours but it sure sounds like it. I beginning to wonder if there isn't a design issue going on here. I am a casual computer user but my son is on it for hours at a time and I'm wondering about heat buildup and the hard drive. Gonna ask that question when I pick it up, good luck with yours.

HELP Please, Mac Pro won't start up

Hi can anyone please help me??? Our power went out while my husband was out of town and HIS Mac Pro is just sitting there with the grey screen with the apple on it and the progress wheel spinning, it has been this way for over 2 days now and I am scared to death to shut it off or try to restart it!
Any suggestions??

1. Buy him an APC UPS 1500VA so power outage, brown outs etc are a thing of the past.
2. Kill it for now.
3. Make sure there are bootable backup clones - SuperDuper or Carbon Copy or another clone program.
4. Install OS X to a small 20GB partition to repair the main system.
5. Invest in 3rd party disk repair maintenance if you haven't already.

You/he are facing a corrupt disk directory that can't be fixed automatically and don't use the drive as is, work from another hard drive, which is why you want to install and have bootable backups, and maybe a drive volume to recover and/or backup to.
