Help using ITunes when offline

The system that I use for ITunes at work is offline. I have my itunes libary on it and when I try to send music to the ipod it continually tries to go online-- password window opens up. I cannot click on one song without it popping up and I have to cancel it. How do I have ITunes recognize my use offline?

Although the following article focusses upon using music in podcasts, the same restrictions apply to websites:

  • HT1349 How do I get help with Itunes when I dont have a serial number for a Mac because I am not using a Mac???????

I just want to get some help using itunes.  I have downladed music - paid for music, and can't get it into itunes.  When I used th e'support' thing it just wanted to know my Mac serial numbers!!  I don't have a Mac I hace a standard non Mac PC.  So why can't I get help with itunes?  Its taken me half an hour to get into this support thing because every single name I chose was taken!!!!  Its just a nightmare.  I hate it!
And now it tells me I must 'choose a community' and itunes isn;t listed!  It gets worse!  So I chose any community because this is just a never ending nightmare.  40 minutes ago now I clicked on support for itunes and I ended up here!

Thanks again.  I bought two albums.  I've no idea what I use to open a zip file.  I just tell it to open and it ususally does but this time Windows media player won't do it!
I am in the UK and its 23.43 so I have to give up and go to bed now.  As I said I have had no probes with Amazon downloads.  I did email CD baby for help but they just sent the links that you offered earlier.
I have tried to burn to CD so I can listen that way but though I go through all the motions I can't add the tracks to the burn list by copying and pasting, and I can't 'drag the tracks here' beacuse the tracks aren't showing, just the whole album folder.  It looks like this:
    SO02294360-catherinefeeny12-mp3 (1).zip
    file:///C:/Users/User/Downloads/SO02294360-catherinefeeny12-mp3.zip
    Show in folderRemove from list
Have to give up for today and go to bed but your responses are very much appreciated.  Thank you

Generally this is a sign that the iPhone had previously been
hacked/modified/jailbroken and the update relocked it to the
original wireless carrier. If this is the case, only that wireless
carrier can unlock your iPhone. You must contact them to see
if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
Where did you acquire this iPhone?
What wireless carrier did you use before this problem?
Does the app Cydia appear on your iPhone?
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>
    About=>Carrier?

  • Can I use itunes when I am separated from my media drive

I currently keep my itunes media on a Time Capsule at home.  I have two questions really...
--every time I open itunes I have to re-locate my itunes library file (which is located on the Time Capsule).  An annoying step, but not the end of the world.  Is there a way around this?  Can I keep the library file on my computer while the actual media is on the external drive?
--which leads to the next question: is there a way to open and use itunes on my laptop when I am separated from my media drive (accessing the items I have on icloud)?  Whenever I am separated from the media drive I don't have access to the aforementioned library file and I have been afraid to click on 'create a new library' or to move the file.  Is there a way to safely open itunes and access whatever media I can access from icloud?
    Thanks so much community!

The reason this is happening is your Time Capsule is not fully mounted before starting iTunes.  If you put your library files on the computer iTunes will find the library but then all your media will show as broken links.  If you then mount your TC the media will still show as broken but if you play one it will have a second look and find -- just that one.
Again, you can use a library with broken links as long as it doesn't irk you.I don't, however, think iCloud is a solution.  Usually it will react to broken links by thinking you still have the file on your computer.  It is usually necessary to completely delete a broken link entry in iTunes to get iTunes to re-download a track (and then it won't know you have it on your TC when you reconnect there), and a computer won't stream music from the cloud servers.
Basically iTunes has limitations and no ideal solutions have been found for huge libraries and small drives that computers have these days by comparison.

  • Converting CD to iTunes when offline.

Obviously it wont be able to identify the CD track listings etc..
My question is, if I convert them all offline, when I go ONLINE will it automatically detect what the tracks are?

You can either add artwork manually or if the album is available in the iTunes store you can download it from there. You'll get information on both methods at this link: iTunes 7 for Windows - Adding artwork to songs and other items
if you can't find the album covers you want from iTunes you can get them from various other sources. I find this site is a good source of artwork: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.
Another place for finding suitable artwork is to go to Amazon. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, right click on the image and save it to the desktop, once it's there drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Once you've added the artwork you can either delete the original file or keep it in a folder somewhere in case you need to use it again. Alternatively there are programs like these that help locate artwork: iTunes Art Importer or MP3 Tag
If you have a scanner you can create your own artwork files by scanning the CD cover itself, this is particularly useful when you are dealing with rare recordings.

  • How can I use iTunes when my library is somewhere else?

Sounds like a dumb question, I know. But here it goes.
I just put my whole iTunes library on an external FW drive and symlinked to it in my music folder.
I love having the extra space on my PowerBook, and I rarely listen to music on my PB when I'm away from my desk.
One problem, though. If I try to listen to an MP3 feed (Shoutcast) without my FW drive, iTunes launches, but it won't continue because it can't find the library.
So is there any solution to this? I guess I'd have to use QuickTime Player for those streams when I don't have my library attached?
Thanks for any ideas or solutions.

Hmm - OK.  Thanks. I've tried but can't figure out how.  If you have any descriptions of how to do this, please send.  Or, am I over-thinking it?  It's not working for me.
    Thanks again!!

  • Help; Using iTunes match to transfer from iPad to new PC

Regarding iTunes match. My PC crashed and the only other place I have my library is on my iPad (shame on me). I bought iTunes match last night to upload my library from my iPad so I could get it onto my new PC, but when I went to turn Match on in my iPad, it said it will delete over my existing library and replace it with songs in the cloud.  I DO NOT WANT THIS to happen! The iPad is the place I want to transfer FROM.  Of course my purchases are there in the cloud, but Match is for sharing/transferring all music, including burned cd collections, which is the majority of what I have. I don't dare turn on Match unless I know that my music library (and burned cd collection) on the iPad will FIRST be uploaded to the cloud and THEN written over.  It says this nowhere on Apple pages.  Please please help.

    Hi,
iiTunes match scans your library on your computer not your ipad. So you will need to transfer your music from your ipad to your computer. If your music has not been added to your computers library, you are likely to lose music on your ipad.
You will need an app to do the transfer. This doc may help Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

  • Help using iTunes in Parallels/ Wndows XP

My mini mac is a Mas OS 10.4 (need 10.5 for iPad) so I thought maybe I could try to use parallels with Windows XP. ANyone have any ideas how I can do it? When I plug in teh IPad to the USB it only recognizes teh Mac even though I tell it to open with the virtual machine. Help!

Well you're not alone in getting surprised by that Mac requirement. Apple has never much flinched about backward compatability. Their new OS's often leave the past completely behind, unlike Windows which tries to keep old things running through the updates (which isn't always a good thing, mind you). Apple's MO makes for a cleaner, more stable transition but it does force you to make decisions. Get the latest and abandon old programs, or soldier on with the old ways and forget about using anything new. I think you'll be glad you chose to upgrade. I just wish Apple (as well as Microsoft) would make these ultimately necessary upgrades cheaper!

  • Using iTunes when MacBook is closed

okay, so basically I wanna know if anyone found a way to keep iTunes playing when you close the MacBook. I know for myself, I like to listen to music while studying but don't want my laptop open or it'll distract me. Any suggestions for keeping iTunes playing?

    Some random ideas:
    1. Turn off the display altogether, or put it to sleep (System Preferences, Energy Saver), leaving lid up
    2. Plug in computer, set up to operate in clamshell mode, and turn of external display
    3. Use an iPod

  • Music on external drive but want to use itunes when drive is not connected.  How?

I used to be able to do this, but can't remember how it was set up.  I have my music on an external drive, but I don't want to have to plug it in everytime I want to access iTunes to use the store or look for apps.

I have already turned on iCloud Photo Library and it works just fine for my iPhone. BUT, what I want is for it work on my main machine, the macBook Air. I do NOT have an iMac or other to store the "system" Photos library. I do Not have room on my internal drive for the macBook Air ("system" library is located on an external drive). I don't want to have to lug that 3 TB drive with me. It also will not let me move the library file. The library file is close to 40 Gbytes and I have less than 20 left on my internal drive (and I don't dare let it get much smaller than this)....
Any ideas as to how to do this?
For my iTunes library, I ran into a similar issue, but I simply started a new library and dragged the files (on my external drive) into iTunes. This told iTunes where they were without copying them to the internal drive.
I would think something similar should work with Photos, but I don't know how to do it.

  • Help using itunes in mini ipad

    Hi,
I have bought $200 itunes and am trying to use them on a new mini ipad, but it asks for my credit card security 3 digit code to proceed.
I no longer have the credit card, what can I do?
    Thanks

  • Help using iTunes on my hardrive..

I recently purchased a hardrive to move all my music too from my laptop as it was running very slowly. I moved all my music over and installed iTunes on the hardrive. This works ok however i cannot get it to sync with my iPod anymore. Is there a way to solve this or do i have to re-install itunes back onto my laptop
    Cheers guys
p.s. I have an iPod nano 3rd gen.

Have you bought music with the iPhone? If you have, first sync the phone with your husbands computer and be sure the purchased music gets transfered over to his computer. Once all is backed up on his computer, sync the phone with your computer(this will wipe everything on your phone and replace it with your iTunes library). You can copy the music from your husband's computer via a network connection(wi-fi) or burn a data CD/DVD and copy the music over to your iTunes library.
Note, any contacts you have manually put into your phone will be lost when you sync your phone to your computer. Be sure you have those contacts saved somewhere else.

  • HT4623 When I switch on my iPad I get a message activation required, i connect it through wifi, it says can't activate, use iTunes, when i use iTunes it says your software is the latest one, when i try to restore it, it says can't can't find the source!!!

    Help!!!

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.  You can then do a backup
