Help with InDesign spread previews in Bridge CS6

Our company is updating to CS6 and needs to be able to view InDesign files as spreads as we did in CS3. We produce many catalogs a year and each spread is a separate file. We use Bridge (CS3) to view the entire catalog at once. Now, with CS6, we can only see one page of the document, even though the preference is set to 2 pages in InDesign. We need an update. Please help!

I don't believe so. It's how Bridge displays InDesign files. In CS6, it's showing a single page and not the full spread that it used to. There is a preferance in Indesign that you can set the size and number of pages to preview. It's set to 2, which is the default.
This is a critical feature that needs to be restored. The link for the feature Request is not working, nor is the reporting a bug link.
After reading someone's comment, it appears that InDesign does not write the appropriate meta data for bridge to preview the spread, so perhaps it is an InDesign issue. Nevertheless, it has not been fixed since 2011!
How can I get through to Adobe???

  • Spread Previews in Bridge

I posted a comment/rant about an InDesign feature that was taken away in CS5 in a discussion that focuses soley on Photoshop (See below.) I didn't realize I had done that until today, so I'm reposting it with the hope that someone on the InDesign team at Adobe will read it. The feature that was eliminated was the ability to preview InDesign spreads in Bridge.
I now realize this issue was caused by a change to InDesign and not Bridge as I first thought. I also no longer feel those responsible for making the change should be fired. However, taking a long time out should be considered. Wait, I take that back. This problem wasn't fixed in CS6, so I'm leaning towards my original suggestion.

I'm beyond frustrated with Adobe because of this issue. The person(s) who decided to eliminate this feature in CS5/CS5.5 should be fired. Seriously. I realize this is most likely a Bridge issue and not an InDesign one, but these two applications used to work side by side in a way that I, a catalog designer, found extremely useful. I always thought the intention of updating software (and not inexpensive software, I might add) meant new, useful features were being added, not eliminated. I hear Quark is making a comeback. If Adobe keeps selling me downgrades marketed as upgrades, I might have to jump ship.

We just  started testing Cs6 and are finding out the hard way that there is no spread preview in Bridge.. Did you find a work around?
We are a small publisher and use bridge to be able to count pages, see what is finished and not.. and to speed up general layout of the magazine..
I guess we are going to have to go back to Cs4.. because this really bites.. I notice some one said somewhere about a plugin Sneakpreview.. but i have not been able to find it.. Oh we are still working on Win xp pro..

  • Help with 3d being disabled on Photochop CS6

I have recently received an error message that indicates that my graphics card is not able to handle 3d-this has not been the case-I also have been able to utilize Poser 9 and Daz 3d without difficulies.  No the 3d portion of Photoshop CS 6 is disabled both on the 64 and 32 bit versions.  Any suggstions for what I believe to be an error?

I  am at work now so, cannot check in with device manager.  I have a ATI Radeon 5770.  This is from memory and I believe it has 1 gig of ram.  I have been able to run Z Brush, Vue, Brice, Poser, Daz etc... with this card, so 3d does not seem to be the problem.  I have also been able to run CS6 3d before example: using the postcard function in a graphic that I made.

  • I need help with Indesign.

I am working on a book project using Indesign 1.5. I have got a new computer. Installation of the Indesign software was problem free but when i open my book project i have a problem that i can not figure out.
When i put the marker in the middel of a text and pressing the enter tab, to move it down a line,  the text after the marker disappear and a red + showing at the bottom of the text box.
I will appresiate it a lot if anyone can give me help with this set up problem!

Try pressing the primary Enter key to the right of the Home Row, not the Enter key in the number pad. If that doesn’t work, look at your paragraph spacing options wherever the paragraph formatting is in that version. Space Above or Space Below might be set too high.
In the future, please both use a more appropriate subject line and provide your platform. This forum is for people needing help with InDesign, so “I need help with Indesign” is just as helpful as leaving the subject line blank. We’re here to help you.

  • Spread Preview for Bridge

I think it is essential that the option to view the thumnbails of InDesign documents within Bridge is returned. Or at the very least an option within the Display Performance Preference to check on Spread Preview or Single Page Preview. It is unbelieveable how much my entire workplace misses that feature since upgrading to CS5.

"Always High Quality" is checked, and "Generate 100% Previews" is unchecked.
(I'm currently writing a program that pulls or creates a thumbnail based upon a variety of file types.  I've learned how to use XMP to extract the thumbnail from an .indd file (and others).  I was hoping to be able to grab larger thumbnails from files like .ai's, especially since I see that Bridge can do it.)

  • Cdr file preview in Bridge CS6

Anyone knows why Bridge CS6 wont display larger previews of cdr files?
The previous version I had (CS4) handled cdr files without  any problem.
    Thanks

Sorry I don't have an answer either, szf611.  In fact, I came here looking for an answer to this myself.
I had a vague memory that the ability to view CDRs might have come from a Bridge extension, rather than being a native capability, but I could be wrong about that.  (Maybe I'm thinking of the "Bridge Here" script?)  I don't know if it would have come from Adobe or Corel.
If I find any solution, obviously I'll post back.  You haven't found any more info since opening the thread, have you?

  • Can you help with InDesign CS5 index problem?

This is my first attept at creating an Index. I've pretty much tried everything I can think of to get this index to work properly. I think I might have made some fundamental errors in creating this document. I created a document and not a book. I placed 5 text files without linking them. I thought I could simply use the index panel and enter my words from the toc and front matter and InDesign would find all the occurences in the document. But when I ran the index I got the toc pg numbers and the index pg numbers only, i.e., Illumination vi-225 (p225 being the index pg). So far I have:
reentered all the index entries to using the "whole document" because I had originally chose "This page" for each entry - that didn't work
then I threaded the 5 text files thinking that might work - nope!
then I saved the file as a book and tried using that - that didn't work.
And yes, I have searched the Adobe CS5 help books, videos, online sites, etc. I'm hoping it's something simple! I would truly appreciate any help with this. Thank you!
       Sue

You don't have any Shape layers, so you won't have any fill or stroke options.  If you had a rectangle and line layer, you have either deleted them, or caused them to be rasterized.  That would also remove any Fill and Stroke options from the Options bar.
The 'little camera' at the bottom of the Tool bar, is the Quick mask icon.  Clicking on it toggles between standard and Quick mask modes, like you said.  Clicking on it is exactly the same as hitting the q key.  It has absolutely nothing to do with Shape layers.
What you need to do now, is regroup.  What exactly are you trying to achieve, and what do you expect to see in your Workspace?  You will have noticed that your workspace is context sensitive.  It automatically changes according to what tools are selected, or what function you are using at any particular time.

  • Need help with InDesign 2.02

I have an old version of InDesign: InDesign 2.02. It is quitting when I open it, telling me that I have a conflict with Text Wrap plugins, and to remove one of them, which I did, without success. I also used my Mac disc utility app and cleared up any problems that might have occurred with the hard drive. Also, I would like to upgrade to the next InDesign version, but don't even know what to upgrade to. Can someone help here? I have a 2003 IMac running OS 10.4.11.

Given those hardware and budget constraints, I'd try to fix the existing system.
First do a Finder search for Text Wrap plugins.
There should be exactly three (the path to the InDesign folder may differ)
    /Applications/Adobe InDesign 2/Required/Text Wrap
    /Applications/Adobe InDesign 2/Required/Text Wrap Path
    /Applications/Adobe InDesign 2/Plug-Ins/Layout/Text Wrap Panel
Eventually it is sufficient to log in as a different user, and launch InDesign from there.
Then clean your preferences. Take Peter's instructions below with a grain of salt - ID2 will differ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
I think the keyboard shortcuts to purge prefs have only been added with InDesign 3 (CS1).
    More desparate measures:
Remove (archive, or at least rename) the useless old InDesign installation before you retry the Installer.
    If nothing else helps:
Do you have any spare disk (i.e. external firewire) or separate internal volume that you could use for a clean OS and InDesign install? There are cheap FW to SATA adapters that you could use for a new disk, most budget disks today internally have SATA. Back in that time I was only using Laptops, so I do not know whether your system already has the faster USB2. If so use that, you'd then not need FW.

  • Help with install of trial version Dreamweaver CS6

I can't launch the app'. Has anyone else noted a problem with mfc100.dll file? (The message returned when I try to launch DW points to this as being the problem.)  I've tried reinstalling it but the same thing occurs. To test, and make sure it wasn't my computer or my error,  I also downloaded Muse, which works fine.
Any help is much appreciated -- eager to use DWCS6.
    Thanks!

Have you ever utilized Dreamweaver successfully on this computer?  If not then please review your installation logs to determine if you received an error during the install process.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation logs at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.

  • Color selection tool has stopped working [was: need help with indesign cs6]

I am working in InDesign cs6 and my color selection tool stopped working.

Do I reply here? I have been creating a newspaper in InDesign cs6 and the color selection box won't work any longer.  It used to work just fine, but now it won't let me access it.
Someone in tech support last night before they went away, was directing me to: Go to Folder from my desktop, and then to Preferences, then to ~/Library/, then to InDesign version 8.0 and en US.  Then we lost contact and I didn't know what to do next, so I still have the problem.

  • ***InDesign SPREADS viewable in Bridge***

Are there any plans to renew this feature that was lost in CS6???? Our company can no longer navigate our catalogs that need to be set up as individual spread files. We have copywriters, designers, art directors, and production artists that all need access to our files, so we have to build them as separate documents. The magazine/book/catalog world has been completely frustrated for YEARS now with no attention being paid to this problem. My understanding is that it's how InDesign writes its preview files. The work around is to export a bunch of pdfs, but when you are working with hundreds of spreads as different files, that is near impossible! PLEASE HELP! There is no third party solution either. I feel like no one there cares since there has been no responses in any of the threads or any of the needs met.

Which version of InDesign did you upgrade from? If you were using CS3-CS5 (maybe CS2 did, but I can't remember) each InDesign file should have been generating a small JPG inside the file which is what Bridge previews for you. If you were using an older version, yes you would have to save it as a new file in order for that JPG to be emdded.
By the way, there is a new feature in CS5 that lets you choose the number of page previews to include with your InDesign. This is really handy for browsing in Bridge, but keep in mind that it can increase the file size.
Yes, you will have to do a "save as" every time you open an older document. But once you have saved it as a CS5 file, you will be able to save over that file again and again.

  • Need help with InDesign interactive PDF

Ive created an interactive pdf through InDesign Digital Publishing. When I preview it in the folio builder everything is working the way I set it up. But when I publish and go to adobe's Digital Publishing to view it, only a few pages will show. I tried sharing it with another and they can only view two of the 10 pages. And the 2 pages they see do not work well. I was in CS6 and am upgrading to Cloud hoping that might help? Any ideas of what im doing wrong?

This is my first file I have built in InDesign's Digital Publishing Layout. I built it as an iPad format horizontal and vertical layouts in one file. I added it as an article to one folio (first as pdf and also tried automatic). I created it with buttons, some basic animation (images that fade from one to another). Pretty basic stuff. When I go to view it in the folio builder or folio layers it is fine. When I click on folio producer it sends me to: https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/app.html#x=folioproducer to view the "content" which isn't all there. And that is what is seen on the iPad.  Does that make sense? I new to this and obviously doing something wrong. Thanks for any advice to get this to work.

  • Help with Adobe Premiere Pro and AME CS6

    Hi all,
First off, i would like to state that i'm pretty inexperienced in video editing, so please keep that in mind when answering or questioning something.I will try to explain my question to the best of my abilities, but please answer in a 'simple' manner, and don't shoot me when i miss something obvious.
I came across a 'performance?'-issue (slow exporting) for which i don't really know how to find the solution. I've been struggling with it for a while.
Your (any) help or insight is greatly appreciated!
    My system:
    Windows 7 Professional - 64 bit (Service Pack 1)
    RAM 20 GB
Intel Core I73770 (dual quad core)
    Direct x 11.0
    Nvidia NVS 310
Adobe premiere pro CS6 (upgrading to adobe CC is unfortunately not an option)
    Adobe media encoder CS6
They asked me to edit some video's on a regular basis, nothing complicated, just a 'training'-video. Length of video is about 2 hours edited.
    File info:
    Source file is 1920x1080 (1,0), 25fps, Upper, 2:11:10:24, 48000Hz, Stereo
There is one audio channel (left is standard mic, right is a shotgun mic) which is split to two audio channels, edited in aodbe audition (basic noise reduction)
I've been running into export times of over 12 hours (exported to mp4), which i'm guessing is a bit much.. . The slowness is also occuring with other export settings.
I came across a possible solution (in short: changing the Video Rendering and Playback in the project settings of APP) but that field is inactive for me...? what's up?
"Use Preview Files" works in CS5.5 but is "Useless" in CS6
I don't really know what to do from here, to figure out the solution. Any suggestions on fixing or troubleshooting the extremely long export times??
    Thx in advance.

  • InDesign CS5 Previews in Bridge CS5?

I have upgraded to CS5 and I have to do a "Save As" to get a preview of the document in Bridge. However, when I go back to it and open it again and close out, I get the CS5 icon instead of the preview. Is there a setting so that I don't have to do a "Save As" everytime I open the document? Very annoying!
