Help with NAS Remote Access

Here's what I have:
Synology DS212J
Airport Extreme Base Station Gen 4 running latest firmware
Running Lion
Here's what I have done:
Changed NAS to use Manual Configuration. IP set to: 10.0.1.14 (after reading some forums here and there I have now changed this to 10.0.1.202 (to be outside the range of DCHP address)
In Airport Extreme I have configured Port Forwarding for port 80 and 7000 entering the private ip of the NAS 10.0.1.14 and now 10.0.1.202 and filled in the TCP ports with the appropriate port, restarted router.
After reading more posts in the forums I checked the NAS and my Mac Firewalls. Nothing...not turned on. I have since gone back into the NAS Firewall settings after reading a post to allow access for Photostation, File station...just in case it makes a differnece
Obtained a static IP from my ISP - ISP does not block any ports
Canyouseeme.org always gives a Timed out message when I try and check port forwarding
Everything works perfect on LAN...just remote I can't seem to get. Some nice iphone apps I'd like to use remotely and use my Air to access when away from home.
Questions:
Is it necessary to also configure a Static IP on my Airport Extreme...I haven't as my understanding is that only the DS needs one? If I do could some kindly step this out for me?
I have previously changed some settings in my router for unblock-us http://support.unblock-us.com/customer/ ... 27...could this be the problem?
Thanks to anyone that might be able to help. I can post screen shots also or could send privately! I have noted that you must be at an outside computer to test access and of course tried that as well...but understand Canyouseeme.org should still say it can see the open port when I test from my network? I also have a DDNS and everything there shows Normal.
Hoping for something obvious and stupid on my part that someone can point out!

-Now In the ETL file, I can find the stereotype property of extOpDemand as follows :

-However I can't access the value 2.7 of the extOpDemand attribute of the <<PaStep>> Stereotype. How do I do that ?

Instructions for reproducing the problem :
1-Run the uml2etl.etl transformation with the supplied launch configuration.
2-Open lqn.model.
There are two folders inside MinimalExample folder, the one which is called MinimalExample has 4 files, model.uml , lqn.model, uml2lqn.etl and MinimalExampleTransformation.launch.
The other folder which is LQN has four files. (.project),LQN.emf,LQN.ecore and untitled.model which is an example model conforming to the LQN metamodel to see how the model looks like.

Storage solution help - iTunes, Airport, NAS, remote access

Hi,
I am looking to purchase a new Storage Device. I have a small network at home consisting of, in addition to my computer, my girlfriend's computer and a couple of friends who regularly come over. I have a cable modem, Vonage (which I am about to get rid of - never use it), and an Airport Express. My access to the network is strictly through the AE, hard wired is not an option in my house due to setup.
I have a MacBook with a 160GB Western Digital USB drive directly attached. The WD houses my iTunes, but it's full. I stream music to my home stereo from iTunes through the AE. I also have about 30GB of photos on my Macbook's HD. I have no backup strategy in place so if the WD dies, I'm screwed. Here is what I want in a solution:
1) Redundancy - preferably RAID 1 or 5
2) Fast enough to steam HD content wirelessly (I will probably be adding an Apple TV this summer)
3) Ability to move around my house and still stream music. Currently I have to be plugged into the WD (which has an AC Adapter) so I am relegated to the desk.
4) Remote Access of files. I am sick of lugging around the external hard drive. Wondering if this would be fast enought to listen to music while outside of my internal network?
5) **Probably not possible** Ability to play music directly from the Storage Device, potentially with AppleTV or some other device, so that I don't have to have my MacBook powered on.
I am leaning towards a NAS but I have been reading some info about using Airport Extreme USB hard drive sharing function. I also thought that AppleTV might release an update that allows users to access and play their digital content without going through the PC.
I looked at the following devices:
1) Maxtor Shared Storage II 1TB - uPnP AV adapter looks like it will play files diretly from this withou PC - wondering if the Airport Extreme is a uPnP AV device?
2) Iomega 150d
3) Buffalo Terastation Live (looks like it has limited Mac support)
I'm looking for recommendations on a solution, NAS, USB or otherwise that addressed the above concerns. I don't want to spend over $1,000.

If your ISP is refreshing the dynamic host configuration of the public ip address assigned to the ISP provided router you will need to request a static ip address from your service provider.
The addresses that are used "inside of your network" are private ip addresses. If you are using the (1) public address for your router (APE)(Apple airport extreme) from the ISP what you are trying to do will not work very well since your router (APE) will use the Public IP address to provide access to the public internet for your private network using the private ip addresses you have used to create your subnet and told your router (APE) about. Three private IP address schemes can be used for a private internet. One for each class. Class A 10.x.x.x/8, Class B 172.16.0.0/12 and Class C 192.168.0.0/24. Translated using dynamic NAT (network address translation with overload) making your LAN hosts using private IP addresses to seem as if they are using a public ip address allowing access to the public internet where only public ip addresses can be used.
PAT (port address translation) is what you are trying to accomplish. For PAT you must have a valid public ip address from your ISP and a private address from your network assigned to interesting host. Use the private ip assigned to the interesting host in the port mapping panel of airport admin that you wish to allow access to via the global internet as well as the tcp or udp port number for the traffic to be directed. For example port 5003 for FileMakerPro or port 20 and 21 for ftp. You should also implement security policies to protect your network and hosts.
Since you said that it works for 12 hours you must have the basics set up correctly. All you need now is to get a static ip address assigned to you from your ISP or use a service such as http://www.dyndns.com/

Will Lightroom help with multi user access to library in OSX 10.9?

I just bought my first Apple gear. iMac and iPads for family. I downloaded some photos to the iMac via iPhoto and tried to allow other users to share the library. This caused major headaches. Prompts to repair permissions constantly appeared, even after permissions were changed. After a visit to the Apple store for a One to One session, it seems that the OS cannot provide this simple functionality (in windows I simply changed folder permissions and it all worked, access granted).
In OSX 10.9 I have to create a disk image, move the library there and add tweaks to auto mount the disk image volume on startup;

I have a NAS for backups, so buying another external HD I don't need is a waste of money. Surely there must be a simpler way for all users of our iMac to have access to the photo library. I thought it would be a simple folder permission issue.
Would using Lightroom instead of iPhoto to download and organize my photos and videos solve the problem or is the problem due to the way OS 10.9 works? Would Lightroom provide the same quick sharing functionality with links to Facebook and local email apps etc? Thanks.

Thanks all for the input. I now have a partitioned external HD. One partition for my iPhoto library and one for Time Machine. All users can now view the photos without being prompted for permission repairs every time iPhoto is launched (amongst other errors, my head is still spinning) . I will backup the photos on the external HD to my NAS.
I have no photos stored on my iMac's HDD, because it just doesn't work. Allowing access to the library when stored on the iMac's HD across multiple users was a headache that a senior Apple phone support tech struggled with for almost 2 hours (using remote access to view my system), and still the solution fell short. The man was very patient and friendly. He was also knowledgable. Everything he directed me to do made sense. We went around in circles setting permissions for almost 2 hours. It didn't quite work. Still had users being denied access.
Seems crazy, but having no photos stored on my brand new iMac is the best solution I can come up with. Glad I didn't spring for the SSD.

Need help setting up remote access please

I have a new server 2012 network with a server built specifically for remote access
I need to set up simple remote access to LAN pc's, published apps, and to manage domain remotely
this is only a test setup and I want some security but first want teh basics setup then I can lock down
I ran the wizards and believe most things are done correctly when I added the roles, and firewall is allowing access to that server.
when I try to connect from external I get the remote server's default IIS web page, no remote access options
is there a simple checklist to test services internally and test the web page access internally?
I am not sure what information you may need so please ask for any details that will be helpful
Remote Gateway, licensing, web access and certificates have all been configured using the wizards

Hi David,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially to remote access the application through RD Web we need to use https://servername/rdweb. Also please check the following setting.
In IIS: IIS Sites --> Default --> RDWeb --> Pages --> Application Settings --> DefaultTSGateway:
Set that to your RD Gateway access URL.
Then restart IIS.
Your RemoteApps will then be able to find the proper gateway inbound.
When you created your collection bring up its properties and make sure the URL is specified in RD Gateway settings too. This generates the correct settings in the RDP files.
In addition, please checkthis article for information. Also please see whether you
have configured RD RAP and RD CAP properly and try to uncheck the option “Bypass RD Gateway for local address” under deployment properties and verify the result.

Need Help with the Remote App

I am able to get this to work on my iMac at home but I was trying to help my dad get his remote App working and have not had any luck. Well, slight luck but only for about 1 minute. His computer is hard wired into the wifi router, ipod touch is wifi from same router. He uses CA Firewall (what Time Warner has as a perk to their road runner service). He has windows XP with the latest Microsoft, iTunes, and Remote software. Here is the problem, the iPod touch generates the pass code but the device list with the remote icon never appears. I got it working for 1 minute when I completely turned off the firewall but even with the firewall off it still then lost connection and couldnt find the library. Any ideas?? I am so confused. I made sure that iTunes was allowed through the firewall. I really want to get this working for him. Any help would be awesome!

Hrmm... nice job doing homework... Do you know, or can you find out, if port 3689 is open or blocked? If it's blocked, open it up. I believe this is the same port used for Music Sharing in iTunes, but it's also the port used by the Remote app.

Help with Converting an Access query

First time poster and would appreciate some help in converting this Access query into T-SQL so I can use in a Stored Procedure. I don't need help in resolving the syntax for the variables as parameter in the second query, but stuck in writing the first query
in T-SQL . I assume I need some type of nested query with a left join to another query in T-SQL.

It is very much up to personal taste. For tables I use no prefix at all. Or suffix. I prefer plural: categories, products, etc. For junction tables, I drop the plural in the first entity, for instance productcategories. As for the case, many people prefer
initial uppercase, while I go for lowercase only. But initial uppercase has its points, particularly in documentation. I am a staunch advocate of using case-sensitive collation for metadata. I don't see any point in mixing productcategories, Productcategories,
ProductCategories etc. That can only cause confusion.
As for either entities, I don't use views much, and I don't have any prefix for these either. In fact, several views I've been involved used to be tables once upon a time.
If you want to add a marker to the object name, I recommend using a suffix. It is much easier to find objects in the version control system and other browser, when not everything is cluttered on the same letter. For instance, I typically add _sp at the end
of stored procedure names.

Request help with restricting site access

I have posted before, and received a mix of condescension and
such, but I am okay with that. I know very little about web design,
but I am willing to learn.
I built a website for my lab (home.uchicago.edu/~beilock) and
the professor for whom I work would like a password protected
portion of the site. Previous advice led me to try PHP/MySQL (for a
newbie like me, these terms were foreign), and I downloaded and
followed all of Dreamweaver's help section and to no avail (it says
cannot connect to FTP host)...and I have tried many things to fix
that, but could not.
Anyway, so this post is for multiple purposes. 1.
Opinions/Advice on the website; 2. Solutions to my connection
problem; 3. simpler alternatives to making a site restricted (I
know nothing of ColdFusion, but if it is easier, please let me
know)

Use coldfusion it is the best out there/ quick and easy to
learn. Check out easycfm.com (they have a great tutorial about
security and restricting access)and post any questions there or on
the adobe coldfusion forum.
If you don[t know anything thenm the quickest language to
learn is coldfusion. You then have to decide if you are going to
use access database or mysql. If it is a huge site use mysql if not
use access. Access is like excel and is easy to use, mysql you will
need to use a program like navicat (google it) to connect to the db
and be able to display it like access. They both come with nearly
all hosts. Who does your hosting ask them how to connect via ftp.
You will need a username, password and hostname as minimum. I
imagine you arent trying to connect to RDS at this stage most hosts
dont allow this(remote development)

Define your variable var ZoltyWjazdMC:MovieClip outside of function one(). Currently ZoltyWjazdMC is local to function one() so that function two() does not understand what it is!

Help with NAS (Network Audio System) setup.

Anyone having any ideas how to set up this? I couldn't find any documentation, no howtos, no help, just an obscure nasd.con.eg in the package.
Has anyone managed to set up a client and a server for this system, it'd be really useful to me...

Idd, seeking is hard and really hacky (:D) to implement with the two process solution. :\ You can use the
extern-movie.sh 10.0.0.4 movie.mkv 124
to seek where you want in the files, but you'd have to exit the script, then restart the script in the middle of a movie ... :\ Writing a plugin for MPlayer might kinda defeat the simplistic design of rsound. Shouldn't be hard to implement though. I made an rsound client in python in like 5 mins, so shouldn't be too hard.
As for NAS: http://linux.die.net/man/1/nasd this helped a little, but it really looks like legacy software. "When the Network Audio System server starts up, it takes over /dev/audio."
I've been trying to get nas up and running, and it wasn't hard to get it to play some stuff with mplayer, but it feels quite broken using the default config + mplayer. Might be my alsa emulation of course, but mplayer showed hickups, erratic framerate (-autosync 100 helped against this), bad sound quality, and a couple of crashes.
You could try this from the command line. Shouldn't need to set-up any config file yet.
sudo nasd -aa
And running this in another shell:
mplayer <movie> -ao nas
Try it locally, not sure how to set up nas to connect to extern servers. :\

Help with Keynote remote

Can someone help me set up the Keynote remote, please?
I was told the app no longer exists...
My MacBook is not "seeing" my iPhone.
All software up to date, all new devices...
What am I doing wrong?

I have installed the latest IOS 7.1 on both my iPhone and iPad 3. I use Keynote quite extensively and was using the Keynote Remote app on my iPhone until Apple recently trashed it out of the App store (I paid $ for this) and it worked for me. I thought that the built in app a good idea. That was until recently when I have had kinds of problems getting it to sync. I usually put the Keynote presentation together on my iMac. On the Cloud it goes to all my devices with no problem with updates, etc. Now when I try to show it on my iPad using my iPhone as a remote the iPhone does not seem to connect. This is even when trying both Bluetooth and WiFi and after I tried all of the solutions of shutting down and restarting, etc. I do see the iPhone is recognized as a remote, but it still does not pick up the connection. Somehow I wonder if the new upgrade to IOS 7.1 has something to do with this??? I am really exasperated as I need to get this working for my next presentation! Can anyone give me any idea of how to fix this? I have even quit the Apps in both the iPad and iPhone and restarted Keynote thinking this might be the problem.........still no solution.

Help with Jaxb - AnyType access to sub-elements?

I am reading an XML file (defined with XML Schema) using Jaxb.
I need one particular element to hold an arbitrary, but well formed, XML document (with any tags).
As such I've defined this element to be of the type xs:anyType. (See payload)
The AnyType Jaxb class however only appears to be giving me access to the text node strings (not sub-elements). (Notice its don't see needs help )
I need the whole thing so I can pass it on to another parser.
Any ideas? Is this supported in jaxb? Is this supported by XML Schema? Am I doing something wrong?

How do I get Java 7 to work with my remote access token to Kaiser on my Mac 10.7.5?

Since I updated Java last week I do longer can get to my Health Connect Site. I get to the page for Java and hit run. Then a window opens, it starts to transfer data. Then it stops and says error. I have gone thru Kaiser's IT and Apple Support. Both tried and could not correct the problem. I have been getting on this site with Firefox for over 2 years. How do I correct this problem with Java or Firefox?

I need some help with MIDI and accessing samples

I recently purchased Logic Express 9. I'm really happy with it--it's certainly a step up from Garageband--but I'm having trouble connecting my MIDI keyboard. In Garageband, I was able to just plug the keyboard in using a MIDI/USB cable and play software instruments immediately. But in Logic, when I connect the keyboard (a Yamaha PSR-273) into a USB port, it doesn't even register! Right now, the only way for me to play software instruments is through the Capslock keyboard, and I would prefer to play on real keys. How can I connect my keyboard so I can play Logic software instruments?
Also, I read on the Apple website for Logic Express that there are "More than 1000" sampled EXS instruments, including "strings, horns, woodwinds, guitars..." etc. The only EXS instruments that I've been able to find are synthesizers. Where are the other EXS instruments and how can I access and use them?

Make sure that the keyboard is turned on before you launch Logic.
In the system preferences of the computer is it connected?
In the preferences of Logic, does it give you an option in the audio section to use the driver in your keyboard? That should come up if its connected

1. You need to specify the correct path and extension. For example:
10.3.9:Users:username:Desktop:myFile.txt
2. You shouldn't need to use 'open for access' if you're only going to read the file.
I don't have any additional suggestions for your other script.
