Help with networking Ipod

I have loaded the apple remote software onto my 64G ipod touch. I am able to control the computer speakers and my apple tv with it, however I can't get my ipod to play the same music in sync with the other divices (when ipod is in the doc in another room) does anyone know how to do this?

What do you mean it won't let you stop or pause? Is the iPod still plugged in and charging with the iPod's USB cord?
What happens if you do a hard reset.  Does that clear things up?  To reset the iPod, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

    Andrew,
The iPod and iTunes are not compatible with Windows ME and the minimum requirements are Windows 2000 with SP4 or XP with SP2 (although I use several iPods and don't have SP2).
If you can't upgrade to one of these, then you can use the iPod with ME if you are prepared to fiddle around a little. However, you won't be able to use iTunes.
    See this.
Guide to iPod and Windows ME
You can use iPods purchased in the USA here in the UK. Our family uses 3 such iPods.
You can also use the iPod on any number of computers as this document explains.

Whoever gave you you all this wrong info deserves to be shot!
Just one more thing Andrew. Please start your own topic in future instead of jumping in an interrupting someone else's with an unrelated query. It's know here as "threadjacking" and is against the discussions Terms of Use.
    Good luck with ME!

hey  i need help with my ipod, i try to download facebook app and it wouldn't let me because it say ios 4.1 require and i dont have ios how do i get it ?  please i need help ASAP

What generation of iPod touch do you have? If you don't know, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
If you have an first-generation iPod touch, it can only go to iOS 3.1.3 and hence will not run the Facebook app. If you have a second-generation iPod touch, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
    Regards.

  • HT1329 hi i need help with my ipod nano i want to get my music from my ipod to i tunes so that i can be able to transfer the music on my i tunes to my ipad mini can you help me with that ?

hi i need help with my ipod nano i want to transfer my music from the ipod to the itunes so that i can be able to transfer the music to my ipad can you help me with that ?

You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like"iPod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your iTunes library, and then sync your iPad.

  • My friend needs help with her ipod

My friend needs help with her Ipod. Here's what happened. She connected her Ipod to a casette adapter and the ipod just froze. She started doing the reset but to no avail. What do you think cause this? She really needs help so if anyone can suggest what to do that would be greatly appreciated.
I don't specifically know her ipod but I think that it is the Ipod 30gb.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
She needs to reset her iPod by holding down Menu and Select for 6-10 seconds...
    Resetting iPod
It may take several attempts. The above link also has "tips" if the iPod does not seem to be resetting.
If she has tried many times, along with the "tips" and the iPod still won't reset, then she will have to wait for the iPod's battery to die and then she can charge it back up and it should work fine. The iPod should reset though.

  • I Really Need Help With My IPod!!!

Ok. Whenever I push a button on my ipod the apple pops up and then an ipod with a sad face pops up. I have reset it. That has done nothing. Whenever I put it into disk mode i'll connect it to my computer then the computer will read it but after a few seconds it will come out of disk mode and the computer won't read it whenever its not in disk mode. I can't even restore it because when i bring the updater up it says please plug in ipod. I would appreciate it if someone could help me.

Suggestions when you run into a problem of a Sad iPod icon or a folder icon with exclamation point with your iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Try to connect on a different computer i.e. a PC formatted iPod connect with a Mac computer or Mac formatted iPod with a Window base PC.
    8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
    9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.

  • I Need some assistant and HELP with my iPod Touch  soon

Note: Look up above at the Top to read my Problem that I am having with my iPod Touch.
Can Someone Please HELP ME with my iPod Touch, I am running out of patience, normally when I do need help here I usually get help and a reply within ONE day, but I have posted my problem YESTERDAY, why isn't there someone not replying to my request?? I am getting 55 views but no replys, isn't there anyone out there that can help me??
I need HELP to reset my IPod Touch to where I had it when I was able to send emails. (can't send emails anymore from my iPod Touch)
I want to be able to sync and send my iPod Touch sent emails info. to my Computer email program, does anyone know how to do that?
PLEASE HELP ME AND REPLY if you can solve my problem ASAP.
    Trisha Foster

Agreed! If you want help soon, call Apples paid support line. Now while you were waiting for us to slowly get around to answering you, you could have downloaded the manual for the ipod, so that you understood the function of the mail sync options in itunes. Mail sync only copies the settings needed to access your mail servers, from the mail client on your computer, over to the ipod touch. It does not copy any actual mail messages, and does not copy any settings from the ipod back to your mail program. The advanced section is meant to be used if you have messed up the settings on the ipod itself. It will ignore any changes to bookmarks, contacts, or mail settings depending on which you check, and will copy new information to the ipod. So in your case if you are able to access, and send mail correctly from the account on your mac, then clicking on the sync mail account button in itunes as well as the replace info on this ipod whatever in the advanced section should transfer over the correct mail account settings to your ipod.

  • Help with connecting iPod

Ok I have the iPod with Dock version and its in good condition. I had about 500 songs on it and didnt connect it to my computer for about 6 months because I never really got any new songs.
In between that time, I upgraded iTunes to the latest version because I still used it to listen to music on the computer.
Just recently I purchased several songs and wanted to upload them on my iPod however when I connected it to the USB, the computer recognized that something was connected but couldnt identify it, and said there might be a problem. It kept saying that and even after iTunes has been up for a while it wont register.
So basically my computer doesnt recognize it anymore. I have tried just about everything, please help and if any additional info is needed just let me know. thanks

    If does not solve
] Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Help with dying ipod...!

hey everyone ive been battling with my ipod for months now and it seems it either needs a new hard drive or is just done with... I just reset the whole thing and thought that would take care of the problem but no it hasnt. basically everytime i turn it on it asks me for the language like its the first time ive turned it on... when i hook it up to my computer itunes hardly ever recognizes it, then if it ever does it wont load any songs onto it.... it freezes all the time.... and it also makes a sound like a bird chirp or like its trying to do something and then fails to do it over and over again. VERY FRUSTRATING!! I dont have a warranty and any help would be awesome! thanks guys

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=501330&tstart=0
    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2364921&#2364921
    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
    2. Do a search on Google and some topics on this discussion forum about “Sad iPod”

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • Help with various iPod touch problems ;O

Hey guys! Recently ( about a month ago) I jumped in the pool with my iPod 4g in my pocket. I didn't notice until about 12 minuites late. After two days it finaly came back on. Now when it came back on the screen was always very dark regardless of how high the brightness was I could also see the water in the screen. After messing with the bightness it finally acted 'normal'. After that I just left my iPod alone to air dry for a few days. For the most part today the water is out of the iPod but it kinda stained the screen ( only can really see it on a white page) I also see a yellow tint in the upper left and right corner. Also when trying to use the cameras it stays stuck on the shutter. I've restarted it, restored it and updated the firware but nothing works. My microphone also dosent work when you try yto take notes it dosent pick up your voice yoou just hear muffling from the playback. I need some help guys!
    Thanks in advance =D

I would say that some parts of the iPod have to be replaced becase of the water damage.  Apple will replace your iPod with a refurbished one for:

  • HELP WITH RESTORING IPOD PLEASE

This is actually a problem with an iPod mini, but I am really hoping someone can help me and that it might relate to problems with other iPods. I posted this on an iPod mini board:
I'm having trouble restoring my iPod mini. When you turn it on, it has a folder with a ! on it, I don't know why, but this is what happened after I tried to reset it, so now I'm trying to restore it and see if that works. But when I connect the iPod to the computer, windows recognizes it, but most of the time the Updater doesn't. I've now gotten it to recognize it most of the time so that it allows me to click on "restore." But then it says "Can't mount iPod." Does anyone know what I should do? On most of the help pages I've found it says to try changing the iPod to disk mode, but I can't. Also, this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499 seems like it would help, but the iPod doesn't show up in the top part so I can change its drive letter, it only shows up on the bottom part as Disk 1, Removeable (F:), Unreadable with no other details. Help me please!!!!
    Thank you!

If you keep seeing the folder with a ! on it, then check out his link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61003
    Hope it helps

  • Need help with networking external hard drive

    Hi,
I am working on a corporate network and I have a Western Digital My Book Studio Edition external hard drive attached to a Mac OSX 10.4. i have other Macs connecting through the network to this Mac and accessing the external hard drive and it works just fine for that.
What I need help with is the fact that I also have several PCs on the same network (all XP), that need to connect to the hard drive and access the files. I've been able to connect to the Mac using the XP by accessing the IP address. I also set the Mac up with password credentials so that I had to log in to the Mac to access the files. But when I try to access the Mac, it only shows the main computer drive as the only available share and no external drive.
Does anyone know how to access a Western Digital external drive on a Mac from a PC through a network?

For an external hard disk drive or other (different) system shared
storage devices to work, they probably should be formatted in a
format seen by both operating systems.
If the WD unit is not seen by Windows computers on your network,
the WD may have been formatted in HFS+ for the Macintosh. That
is OK unless you need a Windows computer to access the same.
    The Macintosh can see and use a standard Windows disc format;
so the external drive may need to be reformatted away from HFS+
if that is really what is going on (and archive any data on the suspect
drive elsewhere, since it will be lost to reformatting overwrites)
and then both Mac OS X and Windows should see the files on there.
    And Macs set up to run Windows may also see the non-Mac format;
without having to re-boot via BootCamp, if that option is in use.
As to the other question(s) I really have no idea at this point in time.
And since that may be the rub, hopefully someone will follow up here.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I still need help with my ipod shuffle(first gen)

my usb dosnt reconize ipod, i already have itunes..i have no clue about ipods, i just got it.is there supossed to be other software other then itunes, for the ipod?

    Hello, Mjj2005
If you are running Windows OS. The requirements to use an iPod or shuffle are
Latest version of iTunes and Quicktime
You can get the latest version of iTunes with Quicktime by going to
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and choose Windows 2000/XP
There is no other software or hardware required.
Some Quick Tips. Try using different USB Ports on your PC and see if iTunes shows your shuffle. Your shuffle is going to appear in the left hand side of iTunes.
If you open iTunes and look at the left hand side. Look for an area called Devices. If you see this right below that will be your Shuffle name.
For better assistance with your iPod you might want to call Apple Support at
1-800-275-2273 where a helpful agent can guide you through these articles and assist you with any other questions you may have about your shuffle.
