I need help with resetting my ichat. How do I reset this if I cant log in? When I try to press online the same thing pops up and I have no way of logging in or asking for help.

    Hi,
iChat (it would help to know which version) can accept Apple IDs as valid AIM Screen Names.
However if you have iChat 5 or earlier you cannot use ones ending in @me.com or @icloud.com issued by iCloud. (they can be used in iChat 6 or Messages as these versions make a double login to AIM and Apple to allow the use of the password).
In addition if you are using an Apple ID for an AIM Screen Name the password still needs to keep to the 16 character limit that AIM has.
AN @mac.com name can be used on any version of iChat  (Until the 30th June 2014)
As it does not need a double check with Apple you can use it to log in to the AIM Web pages
Login here with an AIM Name registered at AIM or and @mac.com name and see if you get any suspended account messages.
Sometimes account can be suspended. Usually because something has triggered the "Unusual Activity" item.
About a year ago many @mac.com users that travelled out of their own country found themselves suspended when they got home.
If the Name checks out of if an Apple ID the password in known to be 16 characters or Less then do this:-
In Lion upwards open a Finder Window and use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
Select the Library that appears in the menu list.
    Navigate to Preferences.
(If you have version earlier than Lion the just navigate to ~/Library/Preferences (that's the Library in you Home - Little House icon - folder)
Fnd com.apple.ichat.aim.plist (even if you are using Messages)
Drag the file to the Trash and Restart the app.

  • Can anyone help with my keychain password?

I recently updated my main login password but didn't restart my MacBook Pro until yesterday. Now it is asking me for my keychain password.  I've tried every known password I have ever used and none of them work!
I have logged off and then clicked on the option "to update my keychain password" but wasn't to update it, it just wanted what it already was.  Basically it will not allow me to access anything on it now.  I'm using my iPad To ask for help.

    Hi ScubaNut08,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know keychain alerts can be very very frustrating. If the keychain alert your are getting is asking for your keychain “login”, please use the attached article for the steps you will need to resolve this. If you are getting a different type of keychain alert please let me know.
OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1631
If you don't remember your original (former) account password
If you don't remember your original password, you'll need to delete the keychain. Deleting a keychain also deletes all the password data saved in that keychain.
In Keychain Access, choose Preferences from the Keychain Access menu.
If available, click the Reset My Default Keychain button. This will remove the login keychain and create a new one with the password provided.
If Reset My Default Keychain is not available, choose Keychain List from the Edit menu.
    Delete the "login" keychain.
The next time you log in to the account, you can save your current password in a keychain.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Changed BIOS settings, Monitor won't turn on (Help with resetting CMOS)

    Hello,
I have an HP Envoy 700 PC Series. Running Windows 8.
Everything was working fine, until I changed/disabled some settings in the BIOS, an dnow the PC turns on without any display.
I need to reset my Bios settings.
I tried removing the CMOS battery for an hour, still the monitor doesn't turn on.
I tried playing with the jumpers (assuming I'm doing it right)..  Any pointers?!
Pc turns on normally without a display.  This all happened when I changed my BIOS settings.
    Any help would be great.
    Thank you

The fact that you removed the CMOS battery usually resets the BIOS so this may not be the problem, however, the computer must be left on for up to 24 hours to permit the battery to charge itself.
You may opt to try another monitor.

  • Help with Resetting Preferences in Lightroom

I have a new iMac OS-X 10.8  ..  I am having trouble with the Adjustment Brush [basically the sliders are not functioning correctly].     I have previously fixed the problem by resetting the Preferences, that is "deleting" the com.adobelightroom.plist file, then restarting Lightroom.       However I've gone to Library, Preferences on the new iMac and I can't see any .plist file for Adobe Lightroom 3 or Adobe Photoshop CS.5.
I also have Lightroom 4 loaded on the same computer but can't even see any com.Adobe ... .plist files for that either???
Am I looking in the wrong place  ..
HELP!!       I might add that this Adjustment Brush problem seems to reoccur regularly????
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You may need to unhide some folders so that you can see Library under your User Name. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4176215?start=0&tstart=0 then you should be able to navigate to it.

I think babdi inadvertantly missed out a crucial piece of info for the hard reset. This is how you do it:
Switch the phone off and do the following.
    1) Press and hold the green "call", "3" and "*" buttons.
    2) With those buttons pressed down, switch the phone on.
    3) Keep pressing those 3 buttons and only release them once the phone shows signs of life such as the Nokia "hands" logo or the language selection screen.

  • Help with resetting DSLAM/boosting noise margin?

I hope that by posting here I may actually get some help on my issue.
Had my BT Infinity 2 installed last week after a missed appointment (contractor), and got some helpful Openreach guys in, first last Monday to install the phone line - all went well, one pair was missing somewhere but a second OR engineer managed to solve this, told me I had a clean line.
On Thursday the fibre guys turned up, bit of hassle getting the HH5 to sync over the Data Extension Cable but got there in the end - seems the phone guy had done all the work and the line was working fine, no CRC errors, not far from the cabinet, a clean line.
However, the online fibre checker originally told me (and still does) that my estimated speed is 60-79 downstream and 19-20 upstream.
I am syncing at around 58Mb/s down but only just below 12Mb/s up - the HH5 has trained at this and it had been in and out the socket a few times on the Monday and again on the Thursday (same speed whether plugged in at the master socket or at the end of the DEC, I know this cable makes no difference anyway) - the fibre guys told me I have to get in touch with my provider (BT) to perhaps have the DSLAM reset as the auto sensing equipment at the exchange might have reduced my speed having been switched on and off so many times.
I know that the checker is just an estimate but it didn't say between 10 and 20 Mb/s, it is quite clear about the estimate of 19-20Mb/s - this was a major factor in me leaving the local cable company as I was already getting 10Mb/s upstream with them anyway.  In this respect I am thinking that the (just under) 12Mb/s seems quite low.
So after phoning the customer service line a couple of times and despite being told to disconnect the router from the "white box" - I assume they mean the old Openreach modem - and getting nowhere as I insisited I don't have that and only have the new HH5, I composed a precise email detailing all of the above, and what do I receive back?  This pearl of wisdom from someone in "Digital Care"...
    "Dear Sir,
This is in regards to your e-mail which you have sent regarding the issue you are facing with your e-mail. I tried to call you to help you regarding your issue but could not speak with you."
Oh dear, did they actually read and understand my query - I also mentioned in my email that I could be contacted on my mobile number (given in the email, and on record as my installation was being handled by a specialist team after the missed appointments) as I do not have a telephone attached to my landline at the moment, or by email.
Now I run my own small computer repair business and am a professionally trained I.T. Consultant so I am 100% certain there is no problem on my end, how on earth do I go about getting this looked at because I feel like I am going round in circles?  I don't think I can face another screen reader in India telling me to unplug my "white box"....
The noise margin seems quite low, can this be boosted - I must be between 150m and 250m from the cabinet according to the fibre guys.
Here's the relevant data from this morning:

  • Help With Resetting the SMC

I have (over time) had several unusual things happen to my 1 year-old MBP. In reading the Apple article for resetting the SMC after trying the other steps suggested with no change in the problems, I am wanting to reset the SMC. However, the options are confusing to me. The 2 options about the battery, I can say it does not have the battery that used to be in my older MBP that just pops out. The second option for resetting the SMC says "resetting…with a battery you should NOT remove…" Since this option seems to be the closest one to my machne, I want to make sure because in the owners manual it goes over how to remove the battery and does not say you should not remove the battery on your own. However, is this the link I would follow for resetting the SMC? My machine does not fit the 3rd link. I want to make sure I do the right thing.
Just in case you need to know, my battery icon does not display properly when the MBP is plugged into the MagSafe and when I initially plug it into the adapter, it says, "not charging." It also will be hooked up to the MagSafe with the amber light on but the % charged will not change for a long time unless I unplug it, restart the machine and plug it back up. Not sure if this is related but the past week I have had Safari Quit unexpectedly about 5 times per day. I get the report form and send that in, but I have never had this issue before. I have been watching a lot of online TV programs from NBC online and CBS online, but I am not sure if this is related and will be helped by the reset.
I did a check on my machine's serial number (at http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com), and I just noticed that there was supposed to be a hard drive firmware update and an EFI Firmware update, but I do not know enough about computers to go through with these.
Thanks for any help regarding what link to follow for resetting the SMC and what to do if that does not help at least the charging and saying, "not charging" when the MagSafe is hooked up to the MBP. I should add that the outlet is working fine.

(I should say that this is definitely a built-in battery. I think I made that clear from the first post. What I was not sure of is if it was what the SMC Link said; "…you should not remove it on your own, but it looks like all the built-in batteries should not be removed "on your own.")
The Apple Store gave me this MBP because they could not fix my one before this current model. I checked out the serial number and it shows on appleserialnumber.com when I put in the serial number that it is a (I think it said 2.06 processor) or something close to this. Since this was basically a freebie and the Apple Store manager said they would upgrade the MBP to what I had at the time I upgraded the earlier model that basically died. So, what that means, the earlier MPB they "replaced" I had upgraded the speed of the HD, so they did that on this new machine, I upgraded to the highest processor at the time, so they upgraded this new one to 3.06, but that website says I have a 2.06 or 2.08 GHz or something close to this. OK, I tried to explain what Apple did to the machine I have. Just in case it matters, I have found a few things that lead me to believe that this was a return under some unusual circumstance, but I can't prove it.
With that all said, I remember I went online and in the manual I got (both places) for this MBP it explains how to remove the battery: carefully put the screws near the notebook where they go back, and on and on. It never says that the owner should not remove the battery.
I should say, after I explained I did not have the MBP that I can easily remove the battery like the previous MBP I had, but the guy who initially explained how to reset the SMC switch ignored that I guess and gave me the instructions for the MBP I for sure do not have. The 3rd option I knew I did not have, so that only left one option but I thought it was odd because it explains how to remove the battery with dotted lines where to put the screws so you put them back in the proper place.
I did not understand why appleserialnumber.com gave me this info. (and I think Apple did too when I put in my serial number when I first received the machine, which did not make sense). Both places said but in slightly different words: Model: - MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) (CTO) and Build Year: - Your Mac was built in 2010. Does this make sense to you?
In the Sys. Profiler: Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,3
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
Maybe it was just a general picture for removing the bottom case. I looked for the owners manual and I looked in the box that my MBP before the current one came in. No owner's manual but I found 2 things still in their wrapper. A remote and some kind of adaptor. Kind of cool. I wonder if the remote works for on my current MBP? what is the pin adaptor for? it is really short, like 6".

Our site is nosillaorganics.com, we are a client of BigTurns.....Can someon help us get this moving please?
Recap of the issue we're facing:
We use offline credit card processing and cannot retrieve the PDF Secure Passphrase so in effect cannot process any orders....it's kind of a problem. :-)
When we try to access the PDF Secure Passphrase we receive the message: "Your Offline Payment Password (OP Password) is overdue. For security reasons, you must change it every 90 days. To access this area, you must login using your OP Password."
We have the choice to Cancel or Continue...when we hit continue.....we go to the OP login screen and it asks us to enter the old OPP though it doesn't actually work because we always get the following error upon submit:
"Your offline payment session has been temporarily restricted due to too many failed login attempts. Your account will automatically unlock shortly; there is no need to contact customer support." however it has been over 5 days and the account is still locked!

First click on Back Up Now under Manually Back Up and Restore.  This will create a new backup in iTunes.  When this finishes, go to the File menu at the top and choose Devices>Transfer Purshases.  This will transfer all your purchased apps and other media to your iTunes library.  When this finishes, sync your phone.  Now go back to the Summary tab and click Restore.  This will restore your phone, removing the passcode.  At the end of the process your phone will restart and reappear in iTunes.  You will then be given the option to either set it up as a New iPhone or to Restore from Backup.  Choose Restore from Backup, selecting the backup you made earlier to restore to.  After restoring the backup your phone will restart again and reappear in iTunes again.  It will then sync back your purchased iTunes media from your iTunes library (which is why you transferred everyting to your library earlier).  At the end it will tell you you don't have a passcode set on the phone and ask you if you want to set one.  Be sure to remember it if you do!
