Help with starting a VLAN implementation

Our network is currently all a single subnet with two 3550 and one 3524XL switches, as well as an ICS-7750 VoIP system. Our default gateway is a 515 Pix.
I would like to implement VLANs - probably users, voice, a WLAN guest for internet only, and a WWAN. DHCP server is Windows.
From here I know that I'll need a router, but I would like advice as to which. I think I have enough sample documentation to get it from there, however if what I have planned isn't possible I would like advice on a revised plan.

What software version are you running on the 3550 ?? Is it EMI or SMI ?? If it is EMI, the 3550 can support the Intervlan routing. You do not need an external router for this. Incase, it is SMI, & if you have an IOS more than 12.1(11) EA1, you can run Intervlan routing. Its always good to have a Layer 3 switch which does the L3 routing between VLANs, since you can have more control of the traffic flowing through it. You can also implement stuffs like HSRP on these core switches and give a higly available design.. Have a look at this doc, which can help you in Inter-vlan routing:

You can implement VLANs on the core and configure it as a VTP server. The edge switches can be configured as clients or transparent mode.
You can implement different kinds of VLANs. I guess u have all the config docs on CCO. For WLAN guests, you can manually configure the Guest VLAN on the interface or use some kinda ACS authentication server for automatic allocation of VLAN through DOT1X protocol. So, your case it would be straight forward for the other VLANs --- go to the vlan database, add the VLAN, assign the VLAN on the interface, define Layer 3 VLAN interface if required and finish it off. For more security, u can configure VLAN ACL's on the Layer 3 interface to restrict traffic between VLANs.

your force quit wouldn't cause an inability to powerup. Black screen on every powerup?
SSD or logic board fault likely.
Contact Apple for diagnostic/ repair.

Help with 871w WLAN & VLANs

Hi! I think I'm too stupid for this...
I have a 871w with IOS c870-advipservicesk9-mz.124-9.T.bin. I'd like to have a config consisting of 4 VLANs: eth-priv, eth-guest, wlan-priv and wlan-guest. The *-guest vlans should only be able to get into the internet, not in my *-priv vlans. I want to use routing and ACLs, so I don't want bridging configured. All clients should get their IPs by DHCP, because my provider gives me my outer IP by DHCP, including DNS-server to use. I have the ethernet-vlans working fine, but can't get the hang of the wireless vlans...
Can someone point me to a config which does the things I want? Just the basics, I hope I can guess the details...

Help with start up. new iMac 27" with Marericks installed has been giving me trouble with IDs and passwords. More than one account downloaded from older Laptop. Now the computer has the turning wheel in from of gray screen and won't go any further when

I recently started using my desktop iMac 27" and have been having problems since installing Mavericks, not saying that Mavericks is the problem per se. I think I have too many accounts with too many names, with too many Apple IDs and too many passwords, email passwords and Apple ID passwords, and keychain passwords, etc. Can't keep them straight even though I write everything down. The screen has been making me log in and log out with Account name and passwords after everything I've been doing, also confused about Users and Groups and how to sync everything. I finally just "shut down" everything and the screen was black. When I turned the computer on again, the circular gear in the middle just kept turning but nothing happened after that. Then I held the on button in the back until the screen went black again.
What should I do? Is there a way to combine all my accounts into one account with one Apple ID? I should say that I also have trying to use iCloud and it has different IDs and passwords. Also when I try to log in with one account name, I can't enter anything I write,and when I type on the keyboard, nothing appears on the screen, although I can receive emails, I can't send them.
In another account, what I type does appear on the screen, but I think it's an earlier account and doesn't translate aver to the other account. ALTHOUGH i set up iCloud accounts, they don't appear any more.
Very confused. Any Ideas about how I can get the computer to start up again and show a new screen?

If you really believe that your system has been compromised, here's what you do:
Disconnect your Mac from your cable modem;
Back up any documents on your system that are important to you;
Boot your Mac from the system installation disks that came with it (insert the disk, restart your Mac, and hold down the "c" key until you get the "spinning gear" icon);
Choose a language and click the arrow button to continue;
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility;
In Disk Utility, select your computer's hard drive;
Click the "Erase" tab;
Click the "Security Options" button and select to have it overwrite all the data on the hard drive;
Click the "Erase" button and allow it to process;
Once the "erase process has completed (it will take a while), reinstall Mac OS X.
Or, if this is too much for you to accomplish on your own, take your system to an Apple Store and have them help you perform these steps. If your system was indeed compromised, this will remove any such hack. You can then set up a new user account for the computer, reinstall your applications (reinstall only from original disks or downloads from the company making the software) and documents, and reconnect to the Internet.
Note that when you reconnect to the cable modem, you may still get an IP address starting with 198. This is normal with some cable modems and probably not a cause for concern. It will not be an indication that your system is still compromised; that will not be possible if you perform all the above steps.

Can anyone help with start up? Or lack there of?

Something is wrong when starting up my iMac5. I press the power button and it goes no where except to a blank light blue screen with a 1/2x1/2 inch square right in the middle of the screen where it flashes the finder icon and a question mark. The computer is unusable and won't go anywhere. Can anyone help me with this or is this something I have to get repaired?

Your iMac cannot find the startup disk. Your startup disk did not mount. Somehow, the formatted info cannot be read. Using your Install DVD, run Disk Utility and repair disk then repair disk permissions. It may be necessary to first mount the disk.
If none of this will work, the disks header info is badly damaged. It will be necessary to format the disk to get it to mount. In this case, this will wipe all the data thats on the disk. You will have to reinstall the OS.
If you had a second bootable HD or another Mac connected with Firewire, you could first run Data Rescue can extract the data to the other drive before formatting.

Hi there - i've spent half my life trying to sort this and it's in vain. There's only 9 hits in google for the below error message and half of those are in Japanese. Not much help therefore. So any advice to be gratefully received!
I've installed enterprise manager with the option for Oracle to create a new repository. All seems to have installed ok. I've issued the set oracle_sid and the usual "emctl status dbconsole" command and i always get the "unable to locate web application configuration from ." error.
I can't see any oracle dbconsole service in the services window either. Should there be one or does this get created when you run a successful "emctl start dbconsole" command?
I've tinkered with the Oracle homes (as per previous discussions) but to no avail.
Appreciated if someone could point me in the right direction - I'm a newby to Enterprise Manager.

Nope. Still exactly the same.
Error as per previous server before i started hacking it (emctl status dbconsole): "Unable to locate web application configuration from ." I'm completely losing my mind with this install. This same error has happened on 3 different servers now. Always falls over on this agent configuration. Don't Oracle test their installation procedures? Anyway, here's a not so useful snippet of the logs. If anyone knows anything, would be good to let me know - otherwise change of career for me :-(

Help with starting point for "proof of concept" integration

We are a third party application provider and are attempting to figure out how to do a "proof of concept" integration with SAP. We are not looking for "certification". Our product does not appear to fit any of the standard certifications for integration and our experience integrating with other systems indicates that no two integration will be identical.
We are looking to do a simple integration scenario with an SAP system so we have some basic experience doing it, can say 'Yes" when asked if we have done it, and can create a video showing a transaction being done in SAP and our system also updating (and ideally the reverse).
Our starting point with respect to SAP knowledge is "0".
Our basic task list (we think) goes something like
1. Figure out the version and modules of SAP with which we should be integrating
2. Get access to an SAP system (do we rent, is there a developer/evaluation, ...)
3. Put some data in the test system (is there a "sample data" set?)
4. Figure out the SAP transactions that map to the business process in which we are interested (moving goods in and out of a distribution center/ware house - are there some "standard business process guides")
5. Integrate (we are a .NET web based application so we are guessing this means use the ".Net Connector")
Could anyone point out any resources (white papers, links, people, places to find people,...) that might be a good starting point?

We are looking to recieve notifications out of SAP as tractor trailers at a dock are filled as proof on concept. The actual integration scenarios we do are more complex and do not match well with any of the pre-packaged certification scenarios. The real world integration scenarios actual vary substantially from customer to customer in terms of the integration points between systems.
As we have become more marginally knowledgable about SAP, I think we will end up receiving and sending "IDOC" messages from SAP but have no idea what those IDOC messages are or where to start looking for what a "standard" (if there is one) message SAP would generate in reaction to whatever the "trailer is loaded" transaction is.
To figure out what the transaction is, I assume we need to identify what version of SAP we should be targeting for a simple integration. Are there any could references on what the commonly integration methods are and to which versions they apply?
Something like "hey, if you do an integration with a IDOCs in with SAP Netweaver 2004 then that would good proof you could integrate with 90% of the installed SAP base". Of course, any links explaining what the versions of SAP are and where they are in there lifecycle and what people are actually using would be helpful.

Here's where my story starts, I've just started out a new year of school and I've been placed in a Computer Science (Higher Level) class, and it so happens that I am to be coding/programming in Java. I've worked with C++ in the past, and I've noticed that Java is quite similar, thankfully.
This Computer Science class is a two-year course, at the end of the two years I will have an external assessment (IB dossier) due. This gives me tons of time to work on this project, if you haven't noticed by now it will be an on-going project.
I know this project is going to take some time that's why I would like to start now.

My project is called "AM" and in the end it will be an "instant messenger" (with your help of course).
The first thing I would like to establish in this project is creating a server program to accept connections and a client to connect to the server (text based). I would like multiclient connections to the one server program.
Now here's the question, what should I look into before starting this project, what Java technologies? What resources should I grab from the library or from the book store? Basically I'm asking where I should begin?
If anyone has any suggestions or even some personal experience with writing a program like this please contact me. I would really appreciate it. Also source code would really help in learning this, but I can probably search that on my own, thanks.

The easiest way to go about this is to use Sockets. You could also look into using RMI

Need help with starting a simple calculator

I have this simple calculator I just started on, and I'm having just a few problems. First of all, I don't know how to append text to a textfield. Maybe I would have to create a string buffere or something. Then, when the user clicks one of the buttons, the compiler goes crazy, and nothing is displayed.

First of all, I don't
know how to append text to a textfield.
textField.setText( textField.getText() + TEXT_YOU_WANT_TO_APPEND );
Then,
when the user clicks one of the buttons, the compiler
goes crazy, and nothing is displayed.No, the compiler doesn't go crazy, the compiler has done it's job by then. However, you do get a NullPointerException, and the stacktrace tells you that the problem is on the following line:
txtDisplay.setText(strNames);
It turns out that strNames is null. I leave it to you to find out why. ;-)

I am wanting to start a podcast, but I am afraid I have no idea exactly how to.. I have spent quite a bit of time researching the easiest most effective way to start a podcast and upload it to Itunes, but in the end just feel more confused..

What do I need to do to start a Podcast and upload it to Itunes?
I bought a top of the line microphone, and have been messing around in gargeband to record it, but after that I am completely lost as to the next steps..

New User needs help with starting SDK

I downloaded the J2EEsdk-1_4 files and completed the installation. I have looked at all the tutorials and quick-start documentation, but cannot find how to begin building an application. All I needed was very minimal Java parts to write a "Hello World" program for a class, but it prompted me to get the whole package.
How do I get to a prompt window to write some code, then compile it, then run it? I tested the local server as it suggested and it is working, and I ran their sample program and it worked.
I just need a pointer to get me started. I don't need all the web deployemnt stuff, etc....

Need help with starting over in LR

I realized that my importing process is creating an image folder structure in LR that does not mirror my HD image folder structure, so I need to begin again. Thankfully I just started and only imported a couple hundred photos w/o many edits and have created 6 folders.
My question: what's the best way to clean out LR for a new start? Should I simply delete the LR catalog then reimport? Or should I delete the images from LR (leaving them on my HD, of course) then reimport? Does it even matter which route I choose?
Finally, to get the folder structures to match (LR folders and HD folders to mirror each other), what do I need to do? I have thousands of photos I will be eventually importing, and I want the file structure in LR to match my HD. The top images folder on my HD is simply called "PHOTOS." Beneath that is "FAMILY" "STUDENTS" and "PHOTO SHOOT" and then there are subs below those.
If I bring in the top "Photos" folder, all the others will follow and then I will have thousands to process in one import, and I know this would not be the way to go.
So, how can I match the folder structures while only importing a handful at a time? Do I somehow create a folder in LR called "Photos" or do I import the actual "photos" folder from my HD. Just a little unclear about all this and appreciate any advice.

I realized that my importing process is creating an image folder structure in LR that does not mirror my HD image folder structure, so I need to begin again.
When you do an import, the LR folder structure automatically matches your HD structure. You only get this problem if you move or rename the folders/photos in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder. For a beginner, you probably shouldn't be moving/renaming photos/folders outside of Lightroom; you should move photos/folders inside of Lightroom.
My question: what's the best way to clean out LR for a new start? Should I simply delete the LR catalog then reimport? Or should I delete the images from LR (leaving them on my HD, of course) then reimport? Does it even matter which route I choose?
If you delete the photos from Lightroom and reimport, you lose a lot of information. This is not recommended and should definitely be a last resort, only if you can't fix the Lightroom catalog. It is relatively easy, since you don't have a lot of photos, to fix this in Lightroom ... for each folder that has a question mark indicating it doesn't know where the photos are, right-click on it and select Update Folder Location. Then, stop moving your folders/photos in the operating system.
Finally, to get the folder structures to match (LR folders and HD folders to mirror each other), what do I need to do? I have thousands of photos I will be eventually importing, and I want the file structure in LR to match my HD. The top images folder on my HD is simply called "PHOTOS." Beneath that is "FAMILY" "STUDENTS" and "PHOTO SHOOT" and then there are subs below those.
As I said, you stop using Windows or Mac to move or rename your photos and folders. Problem solved.
However, I believe you have adopted a fundamentally flawed and inefficient approach in your use of folders. In Lightroom, folders are no longer organizing tools; they are simply storage locations. Lightroom gives you much more efficient and superior organizing tools (keywords, metadata, collections), and it is best if you abandon these thoughts of organizing via folders. Instead, you make these descriptions into Keywords in Lightroom, and you leave your photos in whatever folder they happen to be in, with whatever name the folders currently have. Keywords are not limited the way folder hierarchies are ... a photo can be in only one folder and one hierarchy; whereas a photo can have many keywords and exist in many hierarchies. This gives you the ability to search on many many different criteria in Lightroom, which is much more flexible.
So to sum up ... fix your catalog, as described above. Then, do not think about folders; do not rename or move folders; just leave them exactly as they exist. From this point on, you organize with Lightroom tools.

Help with starting sql developer

Hi everyone
I have had oracle express and sql developer on my laptop before untill my hard drive went, now iv installed them again but when I start sql developer I make a new connection then go to create a new user, but when I click create new user, there is no list under the "Roles" tab as there should be, its just a blank grey screen. Has anyone had this problem before who might be able to help?
I am kind of in a rush because I need it for a college assesment on monday so any help will be really appreciated:)

Whenever you post you need to provide the full sql developer that you are using and all of the details about what you are doing and the problem you are having.
You haven't provided the version, what user you are connnecting as, what type of connection it is (normal, sysdba), the type of connection you are connecting as (thin, oci), the JDBC jar version if using one, the Oracle client or server versions.

Help with starting up G3 that won't power up

Hello,
I have a powerbook G3 500mhz firewire with the first OSX version that I'm trying to get started up. It was working fine a few months ago (the last time I used it). Not it won't start up at all, no sounds or anything, even when plugged in. I'm sure there hasn't been any damage to it as it's been sitting on my desk in the same position since the last time I used it.
I remember this happening years ago, and I was told to leave it plugged in for a few days for one of the batteries to recharge, and that fixed it that time. This time I left it plugged in for a week but still no progress.
Any ideas?

If I just may add to Tom's reply. IFixit's instructions are great, but they don't show you the quickest and simplest way to the hardware, often having you remove parts unnecessarily.
All you need to do to access the PRAM battery is this:
-Remove all power.
-Remove the optical drive from the bay.
-Support the back of the powerbook display so the 'book does not tilt backwards.
-Lift off the keyboard but do NOT disconnect the keyboard; just lay it face down on the palm rest.
-In the picture, you can see the white connector from the batteries to the logic board. Use needlenose plies to pull it up if necessary.
-Now without any reassembly, connect the power adapter and start. If successful, press/hold the power button until the Pismo shuts off.
-Reconnect the PRAM battery and again try starting. If successful, shut down and reassemble. If it won't start, unplug the PRAM battery and reassemble.
If the 'book fails to start after reconnecting the battery, it probably has an internal short and needs to be replaced. Your Pismo will run fine without this battery connected.
