Hi! I can't upgrade my iTunes 10.3.1.55 on my Windows XP 2002 SP3 to the latest version of iTunes. Got the message: "A problem has occured with the Windows Installer-package. A program needed for this installation could not be run." What to do?

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

I downloaded itunes but when i try to install i get an error saying "There is a problem with the windows install. A programe needed to install could not be open"
    can anyone help?

Ok, Below is what worked for me somewhat.
Okay ... try downloading and saving a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe to your PC from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Now download a trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.php
Open the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR, and try to run the standalone install of Apple Application Support from the AppleApplicationSupport.msi you find in there.
It works now BUT there are still problems.  It is not allowing or recognizing my Cd/DVD player and i CANT burn.  Looking still for this fix.

    Repair your Apple software Update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

  • Cannot install iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7. Getting "a program required for this install could not be run"--Apple Software Update is not installed, so updating it is not a possible solution.

I was following the process of unistalling all Apple software and reinstalling iTunes. But I am getting an error that says "a program required for this install could not be run."
Other threads recommend updating the Apple Software Update module, but that was uninstalled. So if it's part of the problem, updating it is not a solution.
    Windows 7, 64-bit, SP 1 installed.

For what it's worth, at the point the installation fails, Bonjour, Apple Application Support, and Apple Mobile Device Support all show as installed on Control Panel. Apple Software Update has a link on the Start Menu but does NOT show as installed on Control Panel. Is there a way to install this separately from iTunes?

  • HT1926 Have you gotten the error "a program required for this install could not be run"

Whenever I try to install iTunes on my Windows 7 PC, I get the error" a program required for this install could not be run". Any ideas?

Burwood, that tip says to repair the Apple Software Update module. I went through the process of uninstalling all Apple programs from my computer first, so that's not the problem (and it's not installed, so it can't be repaired).
I tried installing iTunes with the "automatically update" box unchecked as well, to no avail. Any ideas?

  • Trying to install the latest version of iTunes and when it is being installed I get the message "There is a problem with this installer package. A program quired for this install could not be run. Contact your support personel or package vendor."

I am trying to install the latest version of itunes and when the install begins I get the message "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install could not be opened. contact your support personnel or product vendor". I ran a troubleshooting diagnostic on my computer and nothing flagged as a problem. I uninstalled iTunes and tried again and now I don't have any way to sync my ipod touch. Please help with any suggestions!!!

Just in case, let's try a standalone AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi install.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunesSetup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi to do a standalone ASU install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If not, what error message do you get? (Precise text, please.)

  • A Program Required for this Install Could Not Be run.

This is the error I receive when trying to install iTunes. I have had permission problems with VISTA in the past, so this may be related. Here is what I have tried
I have completely uninstalled all iTunes related stuff, including using the Installer Cleanup. I initially had trouble deleteing some things because of some permission errors. I managed to fix this by creating a bat file to 'take ownership' of folders. I have been working on this for aaages!!
If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Sincerely,
    Martin.

I have made some progress. I extracted the executable itunes setup into its components and found that the apple software update was giving me the error. I found which folder it wanted to install into, gave myself every permission for that folder, and successfully installed the software update. now when i try and install itunes (though either the executable or iTunes.msi) it goes through the process WAY too fast, and it the end it says installtion complete.
But it hasnt actually installed anything. No desktop icons, the itunes program folder remains empty. Its doing... nothing at all.
    Ideas?

  • A problem has occured with the licensing of this product?

I installed a new hard disk in my MacBook Pro. I had made a backup and after restoring from that everything works except Adobe products. I get the message:
"A problem has occured with the licensing of this product. Restart your computer and re-launch the product. If this problem still occurs after restarting, contact Customer Support for further assistance, and mention the error code shown at the bottom of this screen.
    Error: 213:5"
I have run uninstall, then reinstalled and reregistered (Photoshop, Illustrator and inDesign). Still the same result.
Any ideas about what I can do?

You cannot restore Adobe apps from a backup. Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall them properly. If it still doesn't work, you seriously should consider reinstalling your machine from scratch without resorting to the backup data. Doing this may have introduced other issues like retaining a flakey configuration that prevents services from being run or invalid user permissions. Tracking this down would be more complicated than just starting over with a clean slate...

  • "There is a problem with this windows installer package A program required for this install to complete could not be run contact your personnel or package vendor".

I had itunes set up and working since i have had my iPhone and iPad. One day it asked to be updated, so i did. After it updated it stopped working because whenever i tried to open it it would say "this shortcut has either been deleted or moved would you like to delete this shortcut". This is my main problem and i don't know how to stop it i have tried a disc clean up, De frag and trying to completely take everything to do with itunes off my computer, but it still doesn’t work.
