Hi Jessica,
No, the SD slot will not work, you need an ExpressCard/34 slot.
I do not know if it works with cameras, but with two or more HDs, if the first one has two FW ports, you can "daisy chain" one or more additional HDs from it.

I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...
    thanks in advance..

You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

    paul dave,
to reïnstall Mavericks on your 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, you can try booting into Recovery mode by holding down ⌘R as your MacBook Pro starts up. Eventually it will show an OS X Utilities menu on the desktop; select Reïnstall OS X from that menu, and follow the instructions which it provides to reïnstall it onto its internal disk.

  • I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model. I have read some reviews of Maverick and Yosemite making the older macs slower. Is this true?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4GB Memory. and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model? Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite?
When I had gone to the apple care centre in India a few months ago to upgrade my OSX to Mountain Lion, I was told that considering my macbook pro's specs, upgrading it would just make it less efficient, and that I should stick to Snow Leopard unless I consider buying a newer mac that would benefit from it. Is this true? I find it a bit hard to believe. Which update is most recommended?
I also notice that my mac has gotten considerably slower. While using chrome, it buffers and struggles with even just 5 tabs open. Could this have something to do with my current ios? As a precaution, I have always been making sure I have enough free space on disk i.e around 70 - 100 free out of 250GB.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.

To save myself another 10 minutes of typing I'll just suggest you browse this forum for posts over the past week.  I know I have answered this question for an identical machine setup in the past week.
Short answer. I'd go with Snow Leopard. Lion may be possible but for a Tiger user may be too much of a jump.  For my reasoning read my other posts.

  • I have a mac pro wich will not open windows in boot camp i get to the two options select windows but iyt will not load can you help please

i have a mack pro which will not open in windows from boot camp get to the two options and select windows drive but it will not open can you help Please

Hi there, Well, i thing i might have had the same problem (if you dont mean the selecting part, then try keyboad with usb and without if u dont have a macbook pro or so), i did the same and after selecting windows it said "No bootable disk" or " no boot disk" or something like that and the installer wont start when i was trying to install via CD/DVD.
The sulution is to use 2 usb-drives, one for the support drivers from apple and one for the windows it self after burning the CD/DVD to the usb on a PC using the windows own tools and creating a ISO file.
(there might be problems whit CD/DVD install sometimes)
The ISO file on a own USB is the most importat thing!! (and even apple and windows didnt know that but me and a technikal support guy from the store i bought it managed to fix it after like 4 days )
    Hope it work now mate!

  • I have a Macbook Pro, model 5.4. Does it have a 32-bit processor in it?

My MacBook Pro is the oldest of three Apple computers I own. I can't remember if I bought is in 2009 or 2010. I'm trying to determine if it has a 64-bit processor in it. Is it likely there's a 32-bit processor in it?

    64 Bit

  • I have 2 Macbook Pros running 10.6! One was my sales guy and I would like to transfer my contents to his whilst retaining all his information?

    Hi Guy's,
I have run Mac for the last 10 years! I am sick to the back teeth of them now! I am seriously considering going back to Bill......
I have two Macbook pro's, they are company Macs and I own them. My sales guy has left tthe company and his Mac was a couple of years younger than
mine and a larger memory faster processor etc...
I would like to transfer all of my contents to the younger version, Iphotos, itunes, apps, docs, mail and all? Whilst retaining all of the info still on the newer version. I have backed up onto a 1Tb hard drive (iomega) and thats where the trouble has started.......
It will not let me transfer across, you know the story......different user, keychain, system already exists etc etc.
Is there an easy way of having one access (without it keeping the original user hidden away to P*ss you off from time to time) i don't want to see his name appear now or in the future, just my name, on my Macs, that I bought with, my money.........
Sorry, but really annoyed at the minute....
    PJ

Well there is Migration Assistant in the Utilities folder and that's designed to migrate user accounts from a same or older machine to a newer one. But that comes later.
You want to retain the previous owners data but want to delete his name from the machine, so your going to need to have Admin access on that newer machine or access to his account to get the data off the machine first to a external drive by copying the users folders (music, pictures, movies, documents etc.)
To get the old user off the machine unfortunalty requires wiping the entire drive of all data, including programs installed and the operating system and all accounts, then installing OS X fresh again and setting it up like a brand new machine.
Apple squirrels the original user name all over the machine, and the only way to get rid of it all is to wipe the drive completely.
Once OS X is reinstalled, and you go through the setup process, the Setup Assistant will transfer the User account of the older machine to the newer one via Firewire Target Disk Mode, or via a external TimeMachine drive made on the older machine. Then you can transfer the user data from the backup drive you made earlier.

If this is all too much for you to grasp at this time, just take the machine's to a local Mac software service and they will do it all for you.

  • I have a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 model 7.1; need to upgrade to Mavericks.  My question concerns 3 software apps:  Reunion 10, Quicken 2007, Appleworks 6.2.9.  Any recommendations?

Quicken Essentials is universally loathed on this forum.  Quicken 2007 updated for Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks for $15 is the way to go:

    Appleworks 6:
Partition your hard drive or add an external drive and install Snow Leopard and use the "dual-boot" method to run Appleworks; and/or
Install Snow Leopard Server (available by telephone order only from the Apple Store 1.800.MYAPPLE [1.800.692.7753]; part number - MC588Z/A) into Parallels and run Appleworks (and most other PowerPC apps) concurrently with Mavericks:

  • Macbook Pro model 4,1: can it connect to hi res monitor?

I have a macbook pro, model 4,1. no mini display port. I am looking at a high resolution monitor dell 2713. Will I be wasting my money to buy resolution higher than 1080 if I don't have a port on the Macbook to deliver it?

MacBook Pro's 4,1 (three models) all up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on a external monitor via Dual Link DVI, there are adapters but it depends upon monitor and imput if it will accept it.
SwitchResX has helped others with third party monitors getting OS X to display on them.
Can't help you with the Dell, it's been trouble for others here and I don't know where to direct to solve those issues with Mac's.
    Best I can do.

  • Macbook pro (model number a1226) no power

I have a Macbook Pro (model number A1226) - the computer has been working perfectly.  However, I let the battery drain and since then, the laptop will not power up.  I have tried everything:
    Using two different power cords
Plugging the power cord(s) into different outlets - even in different rooms
Pressing CTRL + Command + Power
Pressing Option + Command + Power
Taking out the battery, unplugging the mag power cord, pressing the Power Button for 10 seconds... plugging back in mag power cord... trying to start it.
Nothing on all of the above.  Someone please help.  There was absolutely nothing wrong with the computer and it has not moved an inch since the power went out!
    I appreciate it.
    Stephanie.

Something new has happened though - the power indicator has now changed to amber and the battery pack that you can remove is now flashing green (there are 5 indicator lights on the battery and the first one is now flashing).
    Is that a good sign?
That is a very good sign. It means the battery is charging, and I suspect at this point you should be able to boot the MBP (leave it plugged in until the amber turns green).
