Hello: Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
Could you specify the Mac OS X version and also what computer you
are using it on, with some detail? Some of these kinds of issues, while
they may seem the same across various years of OS X, can have
different causes and also different cures.
With that information, someone may be capable of researching a reply
most suited to try & see if it works in your computer + OS X system.
One idea, which may/may not help, would be to start the computer
from its most recent OS X DVD install disc, unless it has OS X 10.7
or Later, where there is a Recovery partition on the HDD to boot from.
Then use Disk Utility> repair disk, while there, also repair permissions.

Every time firefox is launched, the spinning beach ball appears, sometimes immediately, sometimes within a minute or two, every time. Must force quit. In my System Preferences pane, the icon for Bootcamp does not appear
I do not have the Boot Camp HD start up icon in my System Preferences window pane. How come this does not show up for me to choose on the Mac side, but I have the choices on the Windows side.
Reinstall the OS, run Software Update to get back to 10.6.4, repair permissions, and restart. The reinstall only touches OS components and basic Apple apps, leaving all user and network settings and data files alone.

I just installed os x snow leopard on my iMac. The system preference is frozen. I was trying to the change desktop apprearance when it froze. Force quit did not work. I just rebooted. Same thing happened again. What to do???????
I did run disk utility through the install disc, It made a few corrections but not this one. It still freezes in the screen saver window. I've decided just not to go there anymore!!!!!! We shall see if any other problems pop up with this newly installed OS x snow leopard

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
Illustrator not responding even after preferences cleared and app reinstalled.
I have a Toshiba Q875 running Windows 8. I subsribe to Creative Cloud. I have a huge proble, with Illustrator CS6.
I have seen posts about this problem on the forums, but I need to post this anyway because I am at wits end. After I start Illustrator, I cannot open a document or create a new document without the program giving me a not repsonding error. I have had two lengthy calls with Adobe Technical Support. In addition to uninstalling and reinstalling the software four times, we have cleared the preferences and created a second user. After the first call, tech had Illustrator running by killing the prefs. A couple of days later, the problem resurfaced. Today the tech walked me through everthing, including a thorough examination of the uninstall before I performed the reinstall. He assured me everything would work. It does not.
I am hoping somebody has insight to this problem. I more so hope that somebody from Adobe sees my post. I cannot believe that I cannot speak to somebody in the US to help remedy this problem. The offshore techs have been nice, but somebody at coporate needs to know about this problem that, as my research has indicated , is not a rare problem on Macs or PCs.ikemyer,

Attempt to generate WebHelp (Primary Layout) after updates hangs and then shows "Not Responding"
Hello! I am attempting to generate after making a number of updates to topics in a large project using RoboHelp 7. RoboHelp 7 was recently installed on my machine by an IT staff person. It has been several years since I worked with this project in RoboHelp and at that time we used RoboHelp 5. I have attempted to generate WebHelp but the application hangs and shows "Not Responding" about half-way through Updating files. When I look at the folder (test folder on my computer's Desktop) to which I try to generate, about 2/3 of the topics and subtopics actually show in the folder even though the generate process failed. I have tried to work with IT but no one there knows RoboHelp. I cannot identify (don't know how exactly) where the problem is and how to remedy. Can someone please offer some guidance? I'm very rusty with RoboHelp's processes...it seems as though something has gone missing but I don't know what to look for and where to start looking! A co-worker has also recently had RoboHelp 7 installed on his computer (per IT remote install) and has helped update topics other than those I've updated in the project. He also encounters this problem when he tries to generate the project on his workstation.

The project is a large policy manual which resides on a shared network drive but we place a copy of the project's "working" folder on our computer desktops to allow updates and maintenance. When we generate the project after making updates, the compiled project loads into a separate subfolder in that "working" folder and a member of our IT department pulls the files out of that folder to "deploy" the manual to our users. This process has worked for over four years, however, for most of that time, there has been only one person doing the work and that person is now out of the office for an extended period of time. I rather got tossed back into the fray at the last minute when it was decided that a set of updates was needed by November 1--a deadline that has not been met, of course.
Since posting the plea on the forum, I've had ongoing contact with an IT staff who tells me the best solution right now is to save the files we each updated, request a file restore back to the last known good state, and then try to re-incorporate our changes to the clean version. In the interest of time, we are pursuing that...your additional thoughts and feedback about the situation would be most welcome. -
Itunes hangs and synchronization does not work

When I connect my ipod touch to my laptop, itunes gets no contact with it what so ever.. The program hangs, and a box appear that says "itunes could not load the data class information from the synchronization service. Reconnect or try again later." But it works fine on my desktop, why not on my laptop? ;P I've reinstalled itunes, bonjour n kinda everything that has to do with apple on my laptop twice.. No difference. I'd be thankful if someone knows how to solve this.. And if it matters i'm running xp pro sp3.

Having Adobe Flash Enabled caused Firefox to Hang, and then to "Not Respond".
I Have the Following:
Firefox 19.0
Adobe Flash 11.6.602.171
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1
After I first install a new version of Adobe Flash, everything works perfectly.
If I shut down my computer & start it up again maybe 10 minutes later, I will START having a problem.
I Click on my Firefox Icon.
Then I click on one of my bookmarks, like for Tucson Weather ( at www.weather.com ).
While Tucson Weather is "transferring data' or "waiting" or "connecting" the small blue indicator that spins to indicate that the computer is working to get the requested page loaded freezes & stops spinning.
Now, If I click any where on the page including the scroll bar, the page becomes dim & a very light color, white the cursor resembles an hour glass. This only lasts a minute or so.
If I click on the "X" to close the window, either nothing happens, or I get a message that Firefox is not responding, & do I want Windows to close the page. I have Windows close page.
Next I return to Firefox, disable Adobe Flash, & Firefox now works perfectly - Only Videos at You Tube are mostly not possible. I have had this problem since at least last September.hello, maybe it's an issue with the protected mode in the flash plugin - you could try if [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-crashes#w_solution-2-downgrade-to-flash-10-3 downgrading to flash 10.3] (which is still supported) or [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround disabling protected mode] makes a difference.

I’m trying to follow HP’s instructions to add a driver for HP Color Laserjet CP 1215 which is connected to my Time Capsule. However, in System Preferences I can’t “add” the printer to the print queue because I don’t have a driver and you have to select a driver before the add button becomes active. Therefore, the Mountain Lion software update doesn’t add driver software for the CP 1215 driver because I was unable to add the printer to the print queue.
This printer doesn't seem to be supported in ML:

You could try the 1515 driver or use the Generic PostScript Printer PPD when adding the printer.

I just downloaded lion and cloud does not show up in my system preferences. Where is it hiding so I can set up icloud and see what lion is offering that is different from snow leopard.
I purchased Lion on the app program but that did not seem to update my software or my operating system. Curious. It showed up on my menu bar saying it was downloading then disappeared. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Suggestions where I should look to make sure it is installed (which clearly it isn't)

I was changing my desktop screen saver in system preferences>screen protection. Now it says it is "Loading Images" and won't stop. The Colourful wheel goes around for ever and It does not stop. Can anyone help me?

I have seen a lot of cases like your issue, and it's easy to solve.
First, open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair permissions. Sometimes, a permission can be damaged and it makes that an application doesn't work properly.
If that doesn't work, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, type ~/Library/Prefereces, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" and restart -
How can I speed up the "start speaking" feature in iBooks? (System Preferences Dictation and speech does not do anything to the speech speed.) The rate is a bit to slow.
Hi, I had the same problem you described, and I noticed that there are two ways of activating text to speech on iBook for Mac, with different speed results (at least on my MacBook Pro Retina display)
On your iBook you can select the text and and then click on > More> Start speaking, and you will get a certain speed, which tends to be too slow.
But you will get the speed you had selected with "Go to System Preferences>Dictation and Speech>Text to speech. In there is a slider to adjust the speaking rate." if you use the TOP MENU (next to the black apple) under Edit>Speech>Start Speaking. I also learned that under System Preferences>Dictation and Speech>Text to speech, there is an option for a shortcut which is very helpful. And you can change Key. Hope this was helpful. -

System Preferences will not quit even using force quit
My iMac recently froze completely, tried rebooting from recovery but that itself says it has problems and needs repairing, System Preferences is open at all time and will not quit, even using force quit!
