Using the Airport with Multiple Macs

I have three Macs in my house. An eMac, an iMac and an iBook. All three are wireless, we have an Airport. However, we have to reset the DSL everytime we use a different computer. Is this a problem with the Airport or our DSL service? If it's the Airport, what can I change so that we can all use the DSL at the same time?

Welcome to the discussions.
Your problem is how you are confiqured.
1. Make sure that the drivers are set to infrastructure mode and obtain IP auto.
2. Router's DHCP On. (Static IP will work too if set correctly.)
3. Make sure that the Router does not have any MAC or IP filtering on.
4. Disable WEP/WPA on both devices.
5. Set the SSID and channel of the Router and the Client card to be is same.

I don't believe it is the docking station as it is never moved, only I use it (older and single). Could it be a setting? Help

iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID. So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account. Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.

Would using a Apple Time Capsules be easier to use as you can use the Airport Utility to set everything up? Would using encryption affect the speed / durability / life span of the drive in a computer or Time Capsule?

1. Time Capsules are the easiest device to setup for Time Machine.
2. Sorry this is unclear. There are a huge number of routers available that have far superior controls than apple routers.. some support Time Machine.. most don't. They negate your question 1. in being difficult to setup. And alot of 3rd party devices that claim Time Machine compatibility are unreliable.
3. Encryption is irrelevant.

Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a new Airport Extreme N for my home since my linksys router is being stubborn. I have an xbox 360 and i was wondering if it worked well with it. I just got the Airport for Christmas and it only took a couple of minutes to set up with my xbox 360 and all of my computers connected right away. The signal is twice as good as the signal with my linksys router was. Much better for xbox live. Good luck

Using the callendar with windows to sync to itunes.

I want to sync my calendar entries to my ipod, but it says i need microsoft outlook.
I have windows live mail which is the upgraded version and the one i use.
Is there a way to bypass/get outlook for windows vista without replacing windows mail?
I have already looked for about an hour where to get outlook with no luck (microsoft has a cluttered download page!!)

To the best of my knowledge, calendar synching is only available with Outlook; if there's a way to sync other calendars, I haven't seen it though someone else here may have additional information. Outlook is a commercial product from Microsoft and must be purchased. It's not a free download, but it is available a separate product without having the buy the full Office suite.

Only a very small number of very expensive high-end gaming and engineeering workstation laptops have plug in video cards. Yours is not one of them. The video soldered to your motherboard is a type of video chip also delivered as a desktop video card and maybe as a plug in card for those few laptops. Again, not for yours.

Have gone through my quota of computers with my itunes account. All previous computers have been scrapped. Don't know how to deauthorize previous computers so I can use the latest with itunes.

Then I attempted to get into my itunes account and am told that I have my maximum number of computers connected to my account and would have to deauthorize one to authorize my current computer. I don't have any of the previous five computers to be able to deauthorize one... they have all been scrapped. What do I do now?

I have a Westell 6100G modem. I want to set up Airport Express for wireless. Can someone tell me how to do it step by step. I'm using an HP with Windows Vista. I'm a tech idiot.

Just got Airport Express to save on GBs of data. I have already a Westell 6100G which is for use as Internet Broadband, via Verizon. How do I set up the Airport Express with this Westell. Do I even still need the Westell, or do I need to also buy a wireless router? I'm a tech idiot and this is driving me nuts.

The Westell 6100G is a combination modem and router or gateway device. The AirPort Express is a wireless router.
Since the Express does not have a built-in modem, you will still need your Westell gateway in order to access the Internet.
Which exact model of AirPort Express do you have. It will be written (in very hard to read type on a label on one of the AirPort's sides). It should look something like: A1392. It may also state a Order#. In that case it would look something like: MC414LL/A
Regardless of which model you have, the basic network configuration would be that you would connect an Ethernet cable between the Westell's Ethernet port and the WAN (circle of dots) port on the Express. (Note: If you have an earlier model of the Express, you would connect the cable to the only Ethernet port on the Express.)
The good news is that you will not have to make any configuration changes to the Westell. We should be able to use it as configured.
What we are going to start with is getting a basic Wi-Fi network that should provide your computer with wireless access to the Internet. Once verified as working, we can fine-tune this network to include wireless security and any other goals that you may have.
Ready to start?
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the Westell and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
Once the reset has completed, remove the AirPort Express from power.
Connect an Ethernet cable between the Westell and the AirPort Express.
Power-up the Westell; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Using an iPod with Windows Me

As far as I know, you can't use iTunes with Windows Me. I knew that when I bought my iPod, but I figured surely I'd be able to use it without iTunes--with a different program, maybe, like Winamp. Apparently not: my computer wouldn't recognize the iPod as anything but a removable drive, which was fine, except I couldn't play anything on it that way. Tried the installation software that came with the iPod and was told it wouldn't work on anything but a Windows 2000 or XP either.
So then I thought, hey, I've got a semi-functioning Mac OS X at work; I'll just use that to put everything on my iPod, even if I can't use iTunes at home. Great, except it doesn't have the right version of iTunes, won't go online to upgrade, and demands a password to install from the CD. Again using it as an external hard drive, I stick something on it anyway and try to bring it home, whereupon my Windows Me tells me that the iPod needs to be formatted.
This is all making me crazy, because I paid good money for that iPod and I'd really love to, you know, use it. Is there any possible way I can use this iPod with Windows Me, with or without iTunes? Some kind of plug-in I can download, maybe?

I finally figured I had nothing to lose--I'd just downloaded a new version of Real Player, which supposedly will work with iPods and Windows Me--and I let my computer format the iPod, hoping that would let it work with Windows again. Apparently not. Now it won't turn on--it's giving me the folder-and-exclamation-point icon. Resetting it didn't help, and I can't restore it because I can't install the software to my computer in the first place.
I suppose the only thing to do is borrow a friend's computer or something.
